OK! We're back with it in 2019 with the first new episode of this podcast in nearly 10 years. The theme of tonight's two hour plus mix is a dystopian soundscape that could have come right out of Blade Runner. This entire mix was recorded as a live improvisation. I tried to lean more on the "mood" rather than big dramatic changes or nimble keyboard solos. This is ideally something you can put on in the background and go about your day with increased enjoyment.

Another live set from the Gypsy House recorded on Wednesday August 18th, 2010, but this time around we got a some added guitar action from my new homie Jesse. Lots of jamming and lots of reggae electro funk to go all the way around the world. Looks like more and more things are turning into a bit of a new Winslow Family Jam downstairs at the Gyspy House. Can't wait to see what else unfolds.

Recorded Live at the Gypsy House in Capitol Hill, Denver, CO June 24th, 2010. I was lucky enough to have a chance to mix my own set at the end of the night with Jean Philippe of The Peacock Revolution. Sampled beats and improvised keys and synth give this Podcast a more progressive sound than previous releases. You will hear an improvised version of a track from The Biz entitled "The Nexus" around the 14 minute mark. This mix was completely improvised and performed on the late night tip LIVE for a very intimate audience.

Yet I still have a load of tracks just sitting on my hard drive. So in the spirit that brought the BSC together, I am unofficially leaking the full album to you in my own podcast mix. Enjoy!

Episode 6 - Meet Studio T

Episode 6 has been long overdue, but worth the wait.
This release is a crossroads of Winslow creativity.
The mix features 2 tracks originally written by P Buck: the first is called "Concern" and the second "Dem Changes."
It is very exciting to bring you these tracks as they both feature a guest Winslow.
"Concern" has been extensively remixed by Tim Santos aka Studio T.
And "Dem Changes" features my good buddy C Note on the lead guitar riff.
Although its shorter than the last few releases, Episode 6 is sure to be a classic.

Episode 5 - Digging through the Archives

This was a fun podcast to put together for me.
First I'll give you the breakdown of what you're hearing:

This time around I decided to try to make a mix of tracks that I thought would flow well together. I took some time to browse through my archive of tracks, and I was able to find quite a few beats that had never been used or released in any form. I'll give you a brief review of the tracks.

"Bad Plus Beat" is named because it originally was built around a sample of a Bad Plus song. Unfortunately, over time some of the samples I have chosen get lost in the process of moving files around. So what you hear on this track is simply the arrangement of the song without the sample. I enjoyed this track on its own without samples and I thought it was a good intro to set the mood for the rest of the mix.

Next, you will hear a track entitled "Alleys at Dawn." This is my equivalent to a haiku in musical form. The song is named for the feeling it gave me when I listened to it. The trumpet and organ give it an atmosphere of the earliest part of the day for me. I listen to this track and I feel like I have been up all night and I am making my way through an alleyway toward someplace safer. This track was written a long time ago. I think it was all the way back when we lived in the Shelley St. house, and I'm pretty sure that Dave B's trumpet playing was my inspiration for the song.

"Paz is a si zaP" is a strange name, I know. I named it this because I wanted to create and anagram with the title. The song made me think of lasers and being zapped, if you will. So somehow I came up with that strange title after working on this song for a few hours. This track was originally the same track as "African Oyoyo." I was attempting to flesh out the beat a little and add a transitional part to the song, but along the way it became much more than I ever intended. The bass line is created with samples of the bass track from "Wind," and the wild synth sounding part that carried the melody is actually a sample of the guitar track from "Shadow." Ever crazier is the basis of this entire track came from sampling another track that was mixed down and then played with my MIDI keyboard like an instrument. The track was named "Creedy Air Balloon" and it was sped up about 20x faster to become the instrument you hear.

"Paz is a si zaP" blends appropriately into its mothertrack "African Oyoyo." This is simply a sample that I created a long time ago by layering up lots of loops on my old Boss RC-20 Loop Station. What you are hearing is many bass lines, vocal recordings of myself chanting "Oyoyo," as well as quite a bit of clapping. It was fun for me to be able to add this in, because it is a sample I have had for a long time and I have not had the chance to share it.

Following "African Oyoyo" is a remixed version of the "Bad Plus Beat" from the intro. Most of the track is in reverse for this go through. But the beat still remains the same.

Next is "Flying Juice." This track used to have a sample of my dad's acoustic guitar, but once again the sample has gone missing from moving files around. The track is still very solid without the sample as the bass line holds down the guitar part. This track was intended to be a BSC song called "On the Grind." And in fact, there was one night at the Winslow house on Memorial where Tim, Natalie, Leigh and I all stood around a mic and recorded a chorus singing "on the grind" to this tune. Unfortunately, it just never came together that well. I still enjoy this track a lot and I am glad I can share it now.

Last on the podcast is a great clincher of a song called "Latin Thought." This song is more of a composition than any of the other tracks on this podcast. I wrote this during a time that I was studying music theory a lot, and I would actually spend more time writing songs on paper than on an instrument. I never had the chance to play this song with a band, but it was always my intention to bring it to a group setting. Hopefully with the Nashville Winslows meeting for practice more often, I may still have a chance to play this song live.

This has been a more organized Podcast than the past releases, and I hope to bring you more orchestrated releases like this in the future. Please feel free to send any feedback as this will only help me to improve the project that is the P Buck Podcast.

Episode 4 - Sleep and Shittyfaced Dub Style

Its almost 3 AM on Friday morning and I am finding myself at the end of a great remixing session. I was able to start on a new version of "Sleep" tonight and see it all the way through to the end in a few hours. (Ironically, I am foregoing a good night's sleep in the process.) I am enjoying the style that is arising from these remixes. Reason is allowing me to add many effects to sounds I had previously only recorded and processed in Adobe Audition. This version of "Sleep" is more laid back than the original version. Lots of reverb and delay helped make this a very atmospheric track.

Thunderstorms cutting loose outside have been a great inspiration for the heavier part of the song. I hope that you will enjoy this version of the tune. You will find it available for download at http://www.reverbnation.com/pbuck

To fill out the rest of the podcast, I have also tacked on an instrumental version of the "Shittyfaced part Dub." This track was released a while back as part of a session I called "In the DUBtime." For this session, I went back to the original sessions for "In the MEANtime" which featured some great tracks like "Coojoejam," "Shittyfaced part 3," and "Shittyfaced the CHRONICle." I spent a good while remixing the beats into dub versions and later re-inserted the vocals with some processing to make them fit the dub style I was hoping to achieve. In the end, I think that the tracks almost stand out better on their own. So in that spirit I am releasing this version of "Shittyfaced part Dub."

In addition to the instrumental, I have added a version of the "Shittyfaced the Chronicle" beat that was never released. This was intended to be used for a Dub version of the 4th installment of the Shittyfaced saga. I think I just burnt out on the idea before I got that far, but I am still pretty happy with the way the Dub style turned out with this track. I hope the dub music can help you relax and feel more at peace today.

Episode 3 - Wind, Shadow, Gin & Sprite, Bump Volume 2008

In this podcast I am releasing 2 remixes of Elements: Wind & Shadow. This is a special treat for my podcast followers and reverbnation fans. Remixing Wind was a lot of fun. It took a day or so to get things moving, but when I found the new beat it really made things interesting. Many of the original tracks and instruments are still in use for this remix, but I really tweaked the effects and layered on the delay and reverb. I have been inspired by Tim's use of delay with the latest Studio T tracks, and I think you can hear the influence on Wind. Shadow has proved to be the most popular element as well as one of the most catchy melodies. This track definitely has a party jam feel to it, and I wanted to accentuate this element of the song a bit more. The idea to add the crowd "OHs" came when I was mixing in the bass track with some new effects and I heard some fuzz coming in and out on the backbeat. In my mind I immediately just heard a crowd of folks shouting with the track. This remix is shorter, but I think you will want to listen to it more than once.

Also with this podcast I have included a couple of special treats that you won't find elsewhere. The first is a track called "Gin & Sprite" named for a favorite drink we used to get hyped about back in the days of the Winslow House in Murfreesboro. A rap song has long been in the works, but the beat has yet to be written to or flowed on. This beat is definitely one of my favorites that I have made in the last few years, and I am glad to have a chance to release it. It was also used once on a promotional video for the GO show. You can still see it on our myspace.

The last track is a BSC mix tape track that Zach "Z.matt.33" Matthews and I started on back when we lived on Hailey Avenue in Bordeaux. I am really glad we don't live there, but while we were there we managed to put together a couple of tight mix tape style BSC tracks. We released them as the Hailey Ave Mixtape. The track included on this podcast was tentatively named "Bump Volume 2008." You will hear our pal Big John talking about "Cause it's 2008" and "Spark another blunt and bump it fuckin loud." Episode 1 - Reverse the Elements

Enjoy this selection of Elements tunes in reverse. I think that they are oddly enjoyable in reverse as much as they are in their original form.

I have been listening to the Color album in reverse and it inspired me to try these songs in reverse as well. The melodies are very interesting when you hear them the other way around, not to mention the textures and tones that are created.
