The Power of the Printed Photograph - A Personal Moment

Greer and I just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. She used her iPhone to photograph this framed photo that resides on our bureau to post on Facebook. It was taken in 1983 by a Providence Journal news photographer.

We lived in NYC at the time and visited Newport often. It takes me back to a pleasant summer afternoon spent at Fort Adams photographing sailboats.

Most of all it reminds me of our enduring love for each other. It is a simple gesture of support and encouragement that has lasted all these years.

So that is the power of a printed photograph, a reminder of a fleeting moment. 30 years have past since this photograph was taken and it can still be held in your hands and shared with others.

This is one reason as a wedding photographer I am committed not only in capturing the moment but preserving that moment in printed form.

What a winter ! What a romantic couple! Rebecca and Charlie wanted engagement photos taken so that they could send out their "save the date" announcement. They live in NYC ( he proposed in Central Park at the Boathouse) but their wedding will be held at Glen Manor House later this year.

Don't worry, Ryan isn't seeing Rekha in her dress before the wedding...The beautiful bride to be, Rekha, is wearing her white prom dress from high school for a mini engagement session. Despite weather conditions, the newly engaged couple looked warm, comfortable and in love.

They will be married later this year at Belle Mer.

12/13/14 Rosecliff Mansion Wedding Betsy and Steve

What a pleasure it was to be a part of Betsy and Steve's winter themed wedding held at Rosecliff Mansion on 12/13/14. It was a subtle and elegant affair featuring a red, ivory and gold color palette.

Exquisite Events created and produced a winter wedding complete with a Christmas tree in the foyer decorated with ornaments which at the end of the evening were packaged as guest favors.

Toni Chandler Floral Design featured red roses, abundant candlelight and mistletoe hanging from the chandelier. Russell Morins catered the event with their usual level of quality and service.

Joey Scott and The Connection kept the dance floor busy all night and played Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" as requested by the couple. As you can see by the photos it was a very special evening.

Castle Hill Inn Wedding Regina and Joe

Regina and Joe exchanged vows on a beautiful New England Fall day at Castle Hill Inn. They live in California and decided on a destination wedding here in Newport. Although this was an intimate wedding (50 family and friends) I also photographed their rehearsal dinner held the night before at The Mooring restaurant. This gave me an opportunity to meet the family and develop a connection for photographing the next day. Here are some of my favorites .

Update: Regina just emailed me after seeing these images and wrote:
"These are absolutely STUNNING! You made me cry they're so beautiful! You even caught the ship that touted The Love Boat theme which was one of our favorite moments! Castle Hill Inn Elopement Jonae' and Carey

Jonae' and Carey live in Tampa Florida. When they decided to elope a friend suggested Newport RI. After some internet research they contacted Castle Hill Inn and started working with Tara to plan their day. After seeing many of my Castle Hill images on the internet they booked me for two hours of coverage. Greer had many emails with Carey working out the little details. They originally planned to be married at the Lighthouse, but it started to rain. As you can see by the selected images we made the best of the situation.

What an amazing wedding weekend! Lianne and I developed a strong connection at our first meeting. She told me that family and friends were more important to her than this being just her wedding day.

Lianne organized and planned her entire wedding with the help of such vendors as , Exquisite Events Design, Stoneblossom flowers, Artistic Wedding Films and the staff of The Chanler Hotel.

There were moments of sadness (her mother passed away recently) and also moments of much laughter. A butterfly release, after the ceremony officiated by family friend Father Eric Hollas at St Joseph's Church, became a spiritual symbol to this special day.

Newport Tent Company set up a tent to hold over 200 people on the lawn of The Chanler Hotel. The weather remained perfect until dinner when it began to rain. The Chanler staff did an amazing job serving the quests despite the rainy conditions.

After dinner everyone young and old danced to the Sultans of Swing in the hotel .

NYYC, Harbor Court, Rehearsal Dinner, Lianne and Rudy

I love photographing a wedding weekend that includes the rehearsal dinner. It gives me an opportunity to meet the family and friends of the bride and groom in a casual setting before the wedding day.

It builds the connection that is so important to my style of photography. It also provides an added insight to the personalities of the bride and groom and their relationships to family and friends. This night was very special because it was Rudy's parents 50th wedding anniversary.

Lianne and Rudy's rehearsal dinner was held under the tent, by Newport Tent Company at the NYYC, Harbor Court. Lianne created a relaxed setting that was produced by the design team at Exquisite Events. StoneBlossom's flower decor complimented the seaside mood.

What a delightful couple. Pamela and David wanted to elope in Newport so David contacted Corinna at Villa 120 and selected her "elopement package". Flowers by Toni Chandler, Frank Camera as officiant, with Villa 120 providing champagne, cheese and chocolate covered strawberries. Very simple ceremony with friends as witnesses. May you always be this happy!

This photo opportunity presented itself at the Hope Funds for Cancer Research event held this past weekend at Rosecliff Mansion. I was introduced to Nina and Nate by Merrill and Alex (I photographed their wedding two years ago) and they asked me to be a part of their wedding day. Jesus Saviour Church has a special meaning for her family. After the ceremony we visited Nate's alma mater St. Georges School for a few photos on the campus. The reception was held at Oceancliff.

St. Augustin's, Castle Hill Inn Wedding, Erika and Mark

You could feel the love all day during Erika and Mark's wedding day. Both got ready at the Castle Hill beach houses with makeup by Jane Sincere and flowers by Stoneblossom. The bride and her father arrived at St. Augustin's in a vintage Rolls Royce. After the ceremony we had 5 minutes before the skies opened up with rain. New England weather being what it is, cleared about 90 minutes later. The small reception was held in the tent and we were able to capture some moments on the beautiful grounds. Thanks to Erika and Mark for allowing me to be a part of their day. Here are a few of my favorites.
