Custom WordPress Permalink Settings

Mini tutorial in case you wanted URLs like this:
http://www.yoursite.com/name-of-your-post

Instead of this generic code-y stuff:
http://www.yoursite.com/?p=837

Login in to WP admin page
At the bottom of the left nav click SETTINGS
Click PERMALINKS
Add /%postname%/ in the CUSTOM STRUCTURE field. (or you can choose another format like day and name which you would choose a format in SETTINGS > GENERAL)

Is there a perfect CMS out there?

I've been messing with cushycms and it's great for editing content but so many people want to add pages and do more in depth editing (which I am deathly scared of after too many Contribute disaters, I won't name any names). Goodbarry is too big and powerful more most sites I've worked on. So basically I've been messing with WordPress (um, like on this site) and it's pretty darn simple to set up and customize.

What scares me is that suddenly clients will just think a WordPress template is "good enough" for their brand.

Well I never really intended to have a blog because I'm very tainted by the endless blogs that are just lists of other lists or reposting other people's content.

So, anyway, I was messing around with WordPress more and more trying to get in all the nooks and crannies to see what I could get to happen. I am mainly a front-end designer/developer and not up on MySQL and crazy back-end stuff so I really wanted to see how WordPress could handle being a CMS as well.

So now what? You're a designer with no portfolio on your site?

It's complicated all right? Let's leave it at that. It's coming at some point.

Autism JAM 2009 Coming Soon

Jack, Alina, and Matt. The inspiration behind AutismJAM.

For those of you who don't know what AutismJAM is, it's a foundation that was created by some friends and me to raise some money for a cause that was close to our hearts, Autism research and awareness.

The plan was hatched as a backyard BBQ to raise a bit of cash to donate, and BAM! Now there's a website, a 5K, picnic, auction, sponsors, volunteers, donations, bands, wow. Talk about the snowball effect.
