I think Judy probably didn’t see the comments before she wrote back. I wish I could monitor comments 24/7 but that’s not a possibility. Either way, I’m sorry she was upset.

Yes, I saw the video of the “grandmother” with the allegedly rescued puppies. The whole thing seems pretty suspicious to me. I’m not sure what the motivation is behind this video, or the first one for that matter. I’m sure you’re right about more incitement though.

Lorie, I do think you answered Judy’s comments really well. Maybe she didn’t see them, for some reason.

And now with the video of the 75yo woman, supposedly from the same Bosnian or Croatian area (she is probably an impersonator) saying she saved the puppies, there is more mystery and possibly more incitement. I wonder what she wants, or what her “directors” want. It’s seems weird to me that the original video has now been blown so out of proportion that many are trying to make money or gain fame on the backs of drowned puppies. For shame.

Just FYI, I AM the editor of this blog. It is owned and operated by me and the content is entirely mine, so I have no “supervisor” or “editor” to answer to. However, as I also work full-time as a veterinarian, I do not have the convenience of monitoring the blog 24/7. So, yes. Sometimes it takes a little while for me to be able to moderate and reply to all the comments. I’m truly sorry if you find that fact inconvenient.

Why no response to my comment? Are you only interested in the comments of people who share your sentiment? It looks like maybe you got in a little hot water because your editor didn’t like the response of some of the people, and you are just trying to CYA by asking this question, then only showing the “forgiving” side of the public (just to appease your editor).

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Judy. You may very well be right about the video being meant to insite an uproar. That is one of the things about this that I am having difficulty justifying in my own mind.

On the other hand, I wonder how many times this type of behavior happens in places like Bosnia without attracting the type of attention this incident did because of the video. From what I’m being told, this behavior is not uncommon in Eastern European countries and that’s a thought I find disturbing also.

Of course, none of this really excuses the purposeful destruction of life or the videotaping of it for entertainment purposes. However, perhaps rather than concentrating on punishing one misinformed teenage girl, we would be better off focusing our intentions on educating the general population and truly trying to make a difference in the lives of their animals.

I don’t think violence is the right response, but I don’t care if the people involved ARE from a different culture. To video tape such vile behavior and then post it on the internet was purely intended to insite an uproar around the world. You don’t post something like that and NOT expect people to react. I’m just glad that “Karma’s a bitch”!!!

Like you, it was hard for me to watch that video, just very heart-wrenching and horrifying. But reading some of the hate-filled reactions horrified me just as much. I’m very glad to find that there are at least a few others who share our feelings, though. As you said, hopefully we can “all learn from this and take a closer look at ourselves”.
