What type of jewelry should I wear with my dress?

A dress without accessories is like a Christmas tree without ornaments: beautiful but oddly naked. Celebrities and their stylists know that carefully selected accessories can make or break an outfit. Coordinated accouterments can tie your look together, creating a pleasing “package,” while clashing pieces can distract the eye and throw off your entire look.

While it’s difficult to decide which of the myriad wonderful accessories to wear, you don’t need a celebrity stylist to get it right, as long as you keep the following time-tested tips in mind. And remember: less is more. Wear too many accessories and nothing will get noticed, except the fact that you piled too much on.

Prom Jewelry

The most obvious prom accessory, jewelry, is easy to get right if you consider two things: your hairstyle and your dress. (Personal style counts, too, but only you know what suits you. Choose pieces you’d wear after prom and you won’t go wrong.) Think also of color. Try not to match your dress exactly, but rather choose colors that compliment your ensemble. For example, a green dress will look great with deep blue or black gemstone jewelry. When in doubt, wear diamonds or pearls—they look great with everything! My personal favorites are freshwater pearls. In addition to white, freshwater pearls come in many beautiful pastel colors, like lavender, peach, pink and yellow that complement a variety of fabrics. Freshwater pearls are also surprisingly affordable.

Jewelry and Prom Hairstyle

Your prom hairstyle plays a major role in the type of earrings that work. If your hair is short or will be in an updo, you have tons of great earring options. Pearl, diamond and gemstone studs are always elegant, and have the added bonus of allowing you to choose a bolder necklace. Drop earrings look great too, and are sweetly feminine. If you choose a bolder earring, like a stiletto or chandelier style, keep other jewelry simple. The same goes for hair ornaments.

If your hair is long and you’re wearing it down, you need an earring that can make a statement. Consider big bold gemstones or dangling hoops or a chandelier or stiletto style. (Think Reese Witherspoon, Queen Latifah and Jessica Alba at the Oscars.) Just don’t overdo it by wearing a bold necklace or bracelet. One standout piece of jewelry is sufficient.

Jewelry and Prom Dress…

• Spaghetti straps: You have tons of great jewelry options here, but again, you want to pick subtle jewelry or one standout piece. Consider a wide pearl cuff bracelet and a pearl ring, or pearl, diamond, or gemstone dangle earrings and a diamond or pearl pendant. A bezel set diamond—or CZ—works well with a spaghetti-strapped dress. Just make sure, if you’re wearing a great bracelet, that your date doesn’t get you a wrist corsage.

• Strapless: The majority of prom 2006 dress styles are strapless. That’s good news for jewelry lovers, as your prom necklace can really stand out. Choose something short to accent your collarbones like a princess length pearl strand or a diamond or pearl pendant. Don’t wear a necklace that comes to the top of the bodice; you don’t want the fabric and the jewelry to compete. If the necklace you choose is simple, consider adding bold earrings or a bracelet for added pizazz.

• Cap- or short-sleeved: Play up your arms and balance out the dress’ sleeves with tons of thin stackable bracelets (I love wood, shell and enamel, but not all together, of course). Pick a simple necklace and earrings, or go without. If bangles drive you nuts while you dance, skip them and choose a wide cuff instead.

• High-necked: Lose the necklace (it’ll compete) and instead pair a high necked dress with a simple pair of earrings and an elegant bracelet in the same stone. Or stack several bracelets in lieu of a wrist corsage. Remember to choose a piece that won’t compete with the bold neckline of this dress. Shoulder-grazing earrings are an option here if they suit the dress’s style. They’ll be dramatic and sophisticated for sure!

• Square-necked: A square-necked dress is the best setting to show off a beautiful necklace. Borrow Mom’s pearls or Grandma’s diamond pendant, buy freshwater pearls in a color that complements your dress, or choose a bold gemstone piece if the dress is jewel toned. Play it up here, but keep other prom accessories simple.

• V-necked: Matching necklace and earrings can pull your look together very well, as the V draws attention to your face and collarbones. For no-brainer options, choose a pearl set or a simple bezel-set diamond pendant and stud earrings.

• Plunging: Consider pinning a vintage brooch at the bottom of the plunge, or adorning yourself with a pearl choker, diamond collar or a plain ribbon. Don’t wear a longer necklace as it’ll detract from the plunge. Keep earrings simple.

• Simple: Lucky you! A simple prom dress such as a sheath, allows you to get a lot funkier with your accessories. The layered look is still hot, so consider piling on a few long gold chains with shorter pearl necklaces, or pearl-and-chain combos. A sparkly diamond cuff, a la Hilary Swank at the Oscars, (go faux!) always looks chic. Remember that you’ll be dancing, so no extra long pearl ropes as you’ll risk whipping your fellow prom goers.

• Ornate: An ornate dress is a work of art. Depending on the style and level of detail, you may want to choose a simple piece of jewelry, such as a diamond pendant, pearl necklace, simple gold chain or pearl, diamond or gold studs. I wasn’t happy when my mom told me that I couldn’t have the dress I wanted for prom last year. In fact, I ended up throwing a fit, which was embarrassing. Mom told me I had $150 to spend, and I thought it was impossible, but luckily I went on the web ’cause my friend Michelle told me that I could even find prom dresses under $100.

Now, I’m not overweight, and I thought I was going to have to find some ugly dress made for plus size girls, but thankfully, no. Not to be rude, but I wanted a nice looking dress and not some splotchy colored reject from 5 years ago. I have to look good for my boyfriend, right? Some of the places I looked had all the cool dresses for $200 and up, and I was getting discouraged, when I found a couple of sites with under $100 prom dresses.

I ended up choosing a sheer, frilly-looking thing in February of last year, and when I went to order it, the company said it was sold out! Now I was really getting depressed and desperate. I begged my mom to up my limit to $200, but she refused, telling me that my hair, limo, and all that stuff would probably cost $500 or more with everything. Even though I promised her I’d work it off, I don’t think she was listening, and stuck me to my budget.

It took another week of searching the stores and looking online, and I finally figured out that I needed to call the companies and check on the specific dresses I was looking to buy to see if they were in stock. At the end, I found another nice one that came in just below what I was able to afford, and I snatched it up in mid February. I can’t believe that girls buy these dresses so early on! I mean, prom isn’t even until April here.

Anyway, it turns out that I ended up looking pretty hot in my dress, I must say. My mom was happy, my dad was oblivious, and compared to a couple of my friends, I actually ended up saving about 300 bucks by looking for prom dresses under $100 and sticking to my guns - well, actually my mom’s pocketbook guns.

Peace out, girls! Enjoy prom. I’m going to senior prom this year, and I’m cool with my mom’s same restrictions, ’cause I know I can find the dress I want.

We wanted to take a moment to focus prom dress styles for pear shaped women, specifically - cocktail dresses.Silhouettes of a pear shaped figure comprises of thin shoulders and wide hips. Pear shaped women are indeed curvy but because they tend to be more heavy on the bottom, finding flattering dresses can be difficult. If you can hire just one or two people for a few hours — or even coerce siblings — into passing hors d’oeuvres and drinks from trays, your guests will be tickled pink.

But go easy on yourself: hit up a wholesale club. Stock up on pizza and sausage rolls, mini quiche, meatballs — things you just heat up on trays. Also load up on tortillas, cream cheese and lunch meat: roll together, slice into rounds and secure with toothpicks, and you have a big crowd pleaser. (Don’t bother with too much raw broccoli.) Pour something sparkly and sweet into plastic champagne or martini glasses served from trays, and you’ve got happy teens.

Decorations: Bargain-Hunt Online.

They’ll fill up the corners of your room, or make impressive centerpieces when tied into “bouquets.”

Scale: Don’t Pad the List.

An exclusive guest list not only cuts down on food and beverage costs, it allows you to style a more intimate party that’s easier on the bank account. Ask a hundred guys and gals, and you’ll pretty much need a dance hall … and a $100-an-hour DJ with a four-hour minimum.

Finding the right pair of prom shoes is essential, and every bit as important as finding the dress. These days, it really doesn’t have to be that hard! With literally hundreds of online shoe retailers available, your search will be easy! There are a few tips and tricks, do’s and don’ts, that will help you make the perfect outfit, beautifully complete.

Prom Shoe Styles:

Silk Couture, Rhinestones, Gold, Silver, Bronze, a myriad of options. Strapped and dressy heels are always a popular choice, and if you can walk in them, why not? They look great with most of the dress styles, often chosen for Prom Night, and are elegant. Plus, they make your legs look longer! All the things a lady loves. For most, a couple of inches is usually sufficient enough to create the desired effect. Style is important, but some of the more practical aspects, with regards to your Prom shoes, have to be adhered to! Or you might well end up suffering the consequences!

Make sure your prom shoe is comfortable!:

There are usually only two options when it comes to matching colours. The first is to choose one of the popular choices, the other is to dye them. You can do this yourself, but it’s generally best to leave it to the professionals.

Breaking in your Prom Shoes:

Do not leave buying you new prom shoes until the last minute. It’s could be a big mistake! Comfort should be of great consideration, make sure they are the right size, no matter how pretty they are! This was the phrase that served as the driving force behind the beautiful life and caring actions of 16-year-old Rebecca Kirtman. Becca, a cheerleader, honor student, and caring young woman, passed away in a tragic automobile accident on August 20, 2003. Today, her family and friends not only remember Becca for her great love and friendship, but also for her contributions to the community.

In the Spring of her Freshman year at Nova High School in Davie, Florida, Rebecca launched a dress drive to provide prom dresses and accessories to high school girls who could not afford to purchase them. Rebecca was a passionate, bright, fun-loving young woman who loved being with her friends and felt that no one should miss a high school event because they couldn’t afford to be there. She saw the inequity in the situation and sought to change things. During the Spring of her sophomore year, Becca single-handedly collected and donated over 250 formal dresses and helped hundreds of girls across South Florida attend their High School proms in style.

To keep Becca’s dream alive, countless dedicated people throughout the world have joined with her family and friends to provide opportunities for those who seek them. Our volunteers work toward a common goal initiated by Becca.

We applaud the Becca’s Closet organization and encourage all of you to consider donating your prom, formal, and quince gowns to a similiar group. With more High Schools opting for specific themes for Prom Night, searching for a theme prom dress can be challenging. Arabian Nights is likely to be a popular theme for Prom 2009. When thinking of looks for an Arabian Nights prom theme, you’ll really want to focus on dresses with shimmery fabrics that are jewel tone in (golds, ruby reds, sapphire blue, deep purple). Sequins, beading and other adornments on your dress would also work well for an Arabian Nights prom theme.

Cool Prom Tuxedo Ideas

Tuxedos are for old guys, right?! Perhaps you’re hell bent on wearing anything but some stiff drab tuxedo to your senior prom – but what alternatives to the tux are there? As prom fashion trends change for girls – they also change for guys.

Before you make any decisions, you must consult with your date. While it is important that you be comfortable in your choice of attire for the evening, it’s equally important that the two of you coordinate and look good together.

If your dates dress is super formal, you may need to just bite the bullet and go with a traditional tuxedo. But there are small things that you can do to give it your own style and look hip and cool. For example, ditch the jacket! When you’re selecting your tux, ask the sales person if you can look at their vest collection. Sometimes the vest worn under the jacket looks 10x better than the tuxedo itself! If that is the case, you can carry the jacket as an accessory, but let the vest be the focal point of your prom outfit. You can also experiment your neckwear. Bow ties can be very stuffy looking, but ascots and short ties are hot Hollywood red carpet trends. So by ditching the jacket, donning just the vest and a short tie (for example) you can turn your fathers tux into the talk of the senior prom.

Another idea is to mix and match your pant and jacket colors. There is no hard rule that says you must wear one solid color. Granted, you don’t want to clash – so it’s a good idea to take your dates prom dress to the tuxedo shop to really pull this off – but it’s a unique idea.

In the event that you do wear one solid color, you can add splashes of color and texture by matching your tux scarf and handkerchief with your dates dress. Perhaps your date is wearing a canary yellow evening gown, check with your tuxedo shop to see if they have scarves that match. If not, for under $50 you can go to your local fabric shop, pick up some material and find a seamstress who can quickly sew matching accessories for you. It’s a relatively simple job that can be done in a matter of days.

Now if your date’s dress isn’t super formal or traditional – your options will increase. You can skip the tuxedo all together and go for a well tailored suit, sports coat and dress slacks, or any other combination that you can think of. Though we spend a lot of time gushing over prom from the female point of view, this night is just as much yours as it is hers. So ultimately you’ll need to do what makes you most comfortable. Our personal experience tells us that with this type of material - a heel that’s too high will cause snags. The dress is likely to get caught in the heel. Now if you absolutely insist on a higher heel and more “jazz” - check out this one by Carlos Santana! The shoe is hot! It’s so hot that it may actually take away from the dress (in our opinion at least). However, you can definitely wear it again, with the other shoe - you’ll likely toss it in your closet and not think twice about it. Either way, at just $42.99 it’s beyond affordable.

The Prom After Party

Who says prom has to end after the formal event is over? Prom after parties are growing in popularity. If you are part of your prom planning committee or just want to get a group of friends together to celebrate the end of your high school career, we’ve got a few ideas on what you can do make it fun and tips to make it safe.

Let’s get one thing out of the way – no drinking! I know that isn’t what you want to hear, but seriously – no booze. Besides the obvious reason – you aren’t of legal drinking age and it’s just uncool, there have been tons of instances where school administration found out about after prom booze parties and decided to cancel the prom all together. Drinking just isn’t worth the risk to your life, safety or the respect of your family and friends. There is a ton of different ways that you can have fun after the prom without alcohol.

After prom pool party: If your live in a warm area or your prom is held during the warmer months, an after prom pool party bbq is the perfect idea. You can have the party the next day, invite people over to swap digital pictures, and just enjoy the day in the sun.

After prom beach party: If a pool isn’t available – head to the shore (if you live close to one of course). Organize the event with friends and designate certain people to bring food, games, and music. Make sure you check the rules and regulations of the shore. Generally speaking, beaches are public places – however some shores have private/member only areas. So what may seem like a great spot to set up your party may actually be private.

After prom backyard BBQ party: If the pool party and beach party aren’t options for you – that doesn’t mean that you can’t have an awesome time in your own backyard! Check with your parents for permission to have a backyard BBQ . You can coordinate the party with other friends to split the cost of food, or you can supply the food and ask for a small “donation” fee to help cover the costs.

After prom skate / bowling party: So you’ve nixed all of the outdoors ideas – a skate night or cosmic bowling night may be a great alternative! Check out your local skating rink and bowling alleys. Many hold “cosmic” events where they stay open past midnight and it’s more of a party atmosphere.

Clearly there are an endless number of ideas for your prom after party. Just remember to keep it safe, and the fun will come naturally!

Don’t you just hate it how one part of your face is oily and shiny, while another is dry and flakey? It seems almost impossible to be able to clean both zones equally. Soap just makes the dry areas drier and lotions make the oily areas even greasier. So what’s a woman to do?

The problem may lie in the facial cleansing products that you are using. While they may work well for your T-zone, the chemicals in the product may actually be removing too much of the natural oils from the rest of your face. That’s the evil of manufactured skin care products. Anyway you look at it, it’s practically impossible to buy a completely natural skin care product made from pure organic ingredients. They have to add some chemicals in order to stabilize and preserve the product for a certain shelf life.

The good news is… the solution to your problem may lie right in your own kitchen cabinets.

Homemade natural skin care products don’t contain any additional chemical ingredients that could potentially irritate or harm your skin. The only prospective problem may lie in people who are allergic to certain food ingredients. This is easily overcome by substituting the offending food or ingredient with another similar ingredient. For example, if you are allergic to strawberries you could substitute a cucumber instead.

Not only do homemade skin care products cost a lot less to make, you can easily experiment with what works best for you without breaking the bank. Let’s face it, some of the products on the market cost a small fortune! I know it frustrates me to buy a product for $20 and find out it either doesn’t work or I can’t use it because it makes me break out. It’s much easier to head off to the kitchen, mix up a small sample batch of something and give it a try.

You will find that some recipes have to be mix up just prior to use as they don’t store well, but the majority of recipes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week allowing you to mix up a small batch to save yourself some time. The following recipes are great for people with combination/oily skin that tend to break out with acne and blackheads. Why not give these a try and see how they work for you?

Facial Cleanser For Normal to Oily Skin

2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp glycerin
1/2 cup distilled water

Mix the ingredients together until smooth. Pour into a jar and place the jar inside a double-boiler pot (do not use direct heat on the jar). Bring the water in the outer pot to a boil and heat the mixture until it is clear and has thickened. (If it thickens too much, add a bit more water). Remove from heat and let cool. This is a good all-over facial cleanser and should keep for 7 to 10 days.

Green Tea Skin Toner

1 teabag of green tea
1/2 cup boiling water

Let the tea bag steep for 2 to 3 minutes in the hot water. Remove the tea bag and let the water cool. Pour into an empty toner bottle or something similar with a small opening. Use with cotton pads like you would regular toner. If you wish to, you could also add a 3 or 4 drops of tea tree essential oil. Tea tree oil is a great antiseptic for pimples, while the oil helps to moisturize the skin.

Facial Scrub (Good for blackheads)

1 part baking soda
1 part water

Mix together into a paste. Gently scrub blackheads for 2 to 3 minutes. Rinse off. Use once or twice a week.

Natural Scrub For Oily Skin

1 part sea salt
1 part lemon juice

Mix into a paste and gently scrub face for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse off. Interestingly, you would think this would be very drying to your skin, but I’ve found it actually leaves your skin feeling clean, refreshed, and soft. Use once a week to remove dead skin cells.

Deep Cleansing Mask

1/2 of a peeled, pureed cucumber
1 tbsp plain, natural yogurt

Mix ingredients together and apply to the face (avoid eye area). Let dry for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Use once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and refresh your skin.

As you can see, making up your own natural homemade skin care recipes can be quite simple and convenient with the right ingredients in the house. After all, if you have to run out to buy some cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc., why not just stock up on what you need to make your own facial skin care products instead? At least you’ll know exactly what’s contained in each product. Just remember to throw away the old stuff after 7 days and make a fresh batch for the following week. Your skin will thank you for it.

Apply Eyeliner Like A Professional

Many people think they already know how to apply eyeliner, and by all rights, they do a good job. In actuality, there is a big difference between the way you might apply eyeliner and the way a professional make-up artist does. Use these easy-to-follow steps and you can apply eyeliner like a professional make-up artist:

1. Select your eyeliner

An eyeliner must be applied near the base of your eyelashes. As there are varying products in the market such as cake eyeliner, liquid liner and pencil eyeliner, it is important to try each type so that you will know which type will best accentuate your own natural beauty. Also, to whatever type you prefer, practice the application so you can achieve a very fine line. Remember that it is not a pretty sight when you apply eyeliner in a very thick line. It will look harsh, at the same time loud, making your eyes as well as giving it a tired and heavy impression. Always bear in mind that a thin line is recommended - should you have any trouble applying it, a brush is helpful to smooth out the line and to blend it well.

Liquid eye liner.

This is can be created through cosmetic surgery. This procedure is known as micro pigmentation, a technique that adds a defined line to the lid which with a handheld device used to puncture the skin several times a minute with a very thin needle that pushes color pigments to the position that is desired.

2. Apply the eyeliner

- Begin at the inner corner of your eye. Always be certain to use a light hand when applying your eyeliner, as the area around the eyes is very sensitive and delicate.

- Put on your eyeliner only after you have already applied an eye shadow. Doing it before an eye shadow application would only cover the eyeliner.

- To achieve a dramatic and intense look, a kohl pencil with a color can be applied above as well as below the lashes, and then followed with black or very dark gray liquid eyeliner at the top. This will give the impression of dark eye lashes and will stay on for the whole day. A dark colored eye-liner will highlight the eyes form and outline as well as give them a deep look.

- While holding your head back facing the mirror, look down so that your eyelids will become tight making it easier in applying and controlling the liner. When necessary, smudge.

- The eyes will seem larger when you make a line with a pencil under your lower lashes - instead try a dark eye shadow applied with the help of a tiny makeup brush, to give an illusion of darker and fuller eye lashes. Below such line, you need to apply also a thin line with a lighter shade of eye shadow, preferably white, yellow or beige to brighten up your eye area.

- Pencil liners may be used on both above the top lashes as well as under the lower lashes. Liquid eye liners however, must only be applied on the top lid. Cake eyeliners are applied with water and may be put on to both the top and so too the bottom of the lid.

- If you have beautiful green eyes, try putting on a violet smoky pencil that will enhance your eyes, since basing from the color wheel, violet and green are opposite, so they will compliment each other.

- Refer to nature when you are in a process of deciding on a color. Green, beige and burnt orange are autumn colors.

Picking Perfume for Prom

Fragrances can often reflect our mood and personality. A certain scent on a good friend may smell quite differently on you as each fragrance reacts differently according to our own chemical makeup.

When testing a perfume in a store, be sure to wait about 10 minutes to allow the fragrance to react to your body chemistry before buying it. Smell it after the first application and then smell it again after waiting. This allow you to sample both the top and middle notes of the scent and give you a good sense of how the fragrance will linger throughout the day.

Be sure to limit how many fragrances you try at one time at the store - stick to just 3 or 4 at a time. Otherwise your olfactory senses may become overwhelmed and you may not be able to tell one perfume from the other!

If you are concerned about an allergic reaction, wait about an hour or so after sampling the perfume. If no reaction occurs by that time, it is probably safe to go ahead and splurge on that new perfume!

Always apply fragrances directly to your skin or hair, as some fragrances (especially parfums and eau de parfums which have a higher concentration of oils) may cause discoloration on certain fabrics. Never spray fragrances directly on silk - it will damage it!

If you like to spritz a bit on your clothing, be sure to test it first on hidden area such as an inner lining before spraying it all over yourself! This is especially true for delicate fabrics and “dry clean only” clothing.

I suggest changing your fragrance depending upon the season. In other words, go for lighter scents during the hotter weather and keep the stronger scents for the drier, cool weather. Heat intensifies the scent, so there is no need to douse yourself in a heavy scent during the summer. And if you are outdoors, be aware that bees, wasps, hornets, and other flying bugs are attracted to flowery fragrances (which is another good reason to stick to light, clean scents!)

Speaking of heat, if you want to keep that favorite perfume as fresh as the day you bought it, keep the bottle in a cool, dark place. Keep the bottle in it’s original box, if possible. You may even want to keep it in the fridge, so you can have a refreshingly cool spritz of your perfume before heading out for the day!

Simply write down a statement, such as “I am a beautiful and lovable person.” Repeat your chosen positive affirmations daily until their truth is instilled into your consciousness. In other words, when we believe we are beautiful and lovable, we will be beautiful and lovable.

Unfortunately, being our own cheerleader also means we have to accept there will be times where we need a “pick me up.” Being there for ourselves to pick up the pieces when we’re down, or when it seems things are falling apart, is a courageous thing to do. We should not rely on others to put our lives back together for us. Rather, we must learn how to comfort ourselves and regain the positive outlook that will keep us going in the right direction. Most importantly, when feeling down, we need to take the time to reaffirm our value and our worth by the use of positive self-talk and positive affirmations.

Finally, being our own cheerleader has the distinct ability to provide us with a sense of leadership, of control over ourselves. Learning to fulfill our own needs allows us to avoid a destructive dependency on others for our feelings of worthiness. Self-worth is a belief that comes from within, and nobody can give that to us or take it away. We must remember that no matter what our circumstances are, we always deserve a pat on the back. calculate the cost of the 2nd list then use this amount to fund your “healthy” purchase. (of course you have to say bye-bye to the “junk food”)

8. “Stop and smell the roses”. Look for good in everything. This is a toughie because most of us are “trained” to look for faults, errors, shortcomings, defects, etc. Begin with yourself. List all your assets (not just physical). Then realize all the good in being you. Move on to other things around you. Work on this consciously every day till it becomes a habit. There is something good about everything and everyone. Once you realize this you will be finding good everywhere without even trying.

9. Learn… something new every day. Pick up a book. or search online. Learn to do something you have always wanted to do. You can even start for free by researching online. Search the subject and start stimulating and enriching your mind today.

10. Reward yourself. Set financial and personal goals and tag them with rewards for accomplishing them. (this one may be something special you have always wanted to do. and not necessarily a purchase.. But if you have done all the above maybe go ahead and splurge a little. You deserve it!

The way you feel about yourself, how you see yourself and believe others see you, is a key issue in how you live your life. It is the foundation upon which you build your successes and the shaky ground on which your failures occur. By developing your self-confidence and belief in your own innate abilities you will be enable to recognise and take advantage of more of the opportunities that are presented to you but until now have gone unnoticed. You will also have the strength and inner belief that is essential in overcoming the inevitable pitfalls and obstacles that life throws at you. By developing this aspect of your personality you can achieve, what may appear now to be, impossible goals. For each time you put your new found confidence to the test and discover that you are a winner, you will strengthen it immeasurably and move forward in your own personal development a greater speed than you can imagine. Your belief in yourself will grow with each new challenge until you begin to see challenges, not only through the eyes of a person who believes in themselves but also, as someone who knows they can achieve anything - because you begin to see yourself as a person who has the confidence in their abilities to find a way to do it!

Here are some points to follow that will help you develop a similar level of self-confidence:

As best you can, stop berating and judging yourself harshly. There are numerous people in the world who will jump at the chance to do that for you. Seek out the company of people you want to emulate. Look for self-confident people to mirror. Watch the way the walk and how they talk. Put yourself in positive environments as much as you can. Your environment and the people around you dramatically affect your level of confidence whether you realise it or not. Immerse yourself in people who build you up but that are honest and forthright with you. These are the type of people who will show you where you can improve while also reinforcing that you can do it and that the job you have done thus far is great. They can help you work on your faults while praising you with each step forward you make. Negative people only pull you down and should be avoided. If someone tells you often enough that you can’t do something you will begin to believe them and thus form a negative belief about yourself. Such people are toxic and must be avoided at all costs.
Be a person who is true to their word. Take action when you vow to take action. Follow through on your plans even if it initially looks like there is no way forward. That doesn’t mean being inflexible. Of course there will be times when you need to compromise and alter your goals and plans but always stay true to your vision. I promise you another way will present itself. If you give up you will seriously damage your confidence! A key point to remember is that there is no such thing as failure - you only fail when you give up! If you keep on keeping on, trying different approaches and staying steadfast to your ideal, you will eventually succeed. The knock-on affect is that your confidence in yourself will grow and you will also have the added knowledge of what not to do. Failure is the greatest teacher but only if you learn from it and use it!
Feel the fear and do it anyway! If you stand up and face that thing that you are most afraid of and do it anyway very often the fear disappears. If it doesn’t the first it will the second, third or fourth. Doing this will prove to your subconscious mind that nothing bad did occur from taking that action. For example you will find that talking to that person didn’t make you stop breathing or giving a lecture didn’t make you die, or walking across the bridge wasn’t life-threatening etc.!

Keep a diary of all your achievements not matter how small and don‘t let others ridicule you for it. I know of a person who was terrified of balloons. Now to you or me this sounds ridiculous but to him it was as frightening as facing certain death. You know what your fear is! Many times in life fail to acknowledge the progress we are making simply because ‘we can’t see the forest for the trees’. We get caught up in the big picture and don’t see the smaller gains that are actually getting us closer to our goal. Think of a time when you met someone you hadn’t seen in years. Do you remember noticing how much they had changed? You could see it yet to their family, close friends and people who seen them everyday the changes would have been almost imperceptible! Take the time to write down every little gain you make. Soon you will be able to read back over it and really see just how far you have come. Write down the fears you faced, how you faced them and obstacles you overcame. Explain how you felt before and how you felt after. This will help keep you motivated in times of internal struggle and show you just how far you have come in your journey to more self confidence.
Finally when you go to bed at night let your mind think of all the achievements you had during the day and week and month. No matter how small these achievements may seem give yourself credit for all of them. Upon waking in the morning visualize yourself for 5 or 10 minutes beaming with joy and confidence as the day unfolds and you will literally set yourself up for a successful day and incredible life!

Families have the reduced number of participants in the Corte of Honor to be easier to work with. Some families choose to have a Corte of only boys. The number of boys in the Corte can range from four to fourteen boys. The reason behind this idea is the all boy Corte of Honor allows the Quinceanera to be the only crowned princess at her own ball.

Some families choose to have the Corte de Honor, to be only girls. Many times each girl is escorted by her father. There is an unlimited amount of options for the Quinceanera and her family to choose from.

Of the other options where the Quinceanera is escorted by her honor escort or Dama de honor, or her parents might escort her in. Or the Quinceanera may choose to only have her father escort her in. There is no right way or wrong way for how the Corte de Honor should be. The final choice is for the Quinceanera and her parents to decide what the Corte of Honor should look like.

When choosing who you want to invite to be in your Corte de Honor it is very important for those you ask to commit to part of the Corte of Honor must do so willingly. It is a major a commitment for every one involved. The commitment involves much more than just time and money. The boys and girls who commit to be in the Corte must honor and respect everyone else in the Corte with good behavior and to be on time for rehearsals.

Things to consider before inviting someone to be a member of the Corte of Honor:

Before the Quinceanera and her family invite the boys and or girls to participate in the Corte de Honor, they should outline the amount of time and money that would be required for each one to fulfill the role in the Corte.

Other areas needed to addressed is: the number and location of each of the rehearsals, the length of time of the rehearsals, the projected cost of the dress and shoes for the Damas and the projected cost for renting a tuxedo or any other outfit for the Chamberlains.

It is very important to write out this information and hand out two copies to everyone you are inviting to be in your Corte. One copy is for the participant to keep for themselves and the other copy to be returned with the signed approval and permission for their son or daughter to participate in the Corte de Honor.

The Corte of Honor just like every other part of the Quinceanera celebration requires planning and commitment for the outcome to be what you want it to be. Therefore it is much better to inform everyone up front what is expected of them. Avoiding embarrassment for those involved or any awkward moments later on. It also keeps you and your family from having to find replacements at the last minute

Quince Mass & Ultima Muneca

Despite changing times, many families continue to encourage their young woman to attend the mass as a central part of her coming of age. In fact, the Misa de Acción de Gracis is a time for the quince girl to reaffirm her values and beliefs, especially as they regard her family, her community, and not least importantly her faith.

The Mass is also a time for the parish to recognize the young woman as an adult in the eyes of her parish.

The Quinceanera Catholic Mass Traditions

The Quinceanera girl comes to her Misa de Accion de Gracis bearing her ultima muneca, or “Last Doll.” This doll symbolizes the end of her childhood and the last toy she’ll have as a girl. In some traditions, she exchanges this for a bouquet of flowers to carry down the aisle to her mass.

Quince girls are accompanied to the Mass by their parents and sometimes a special set of godparents chosen especially for the occasion. While they are sometimes the godparents chosen at birth by her parents, they can also ben individuals the girl wants to include in her growing maturity.

The ceremony has all the parts of a normal Catholic Mass and also special observances. Parents and friends are invited to read important passages from the Bible. The priest says a few words about virtue and faith and blesses a rosary, Bible, and other gifts to be given to the girl at her fiesta later that evening.
There is also a “coronation ceremony” where the Quince girl’s mother or godmother places a tiara on her head. This is a tribute to an ancient custom where the Quince girl was established as an official princess within her family and a young woman in her community. At the end of the service the Quince girl may leave the bouquet of flowers on the church altar as an offering of faith.

Many parishes now hold one single Misa for all their Quince girls in a given time, usually once a month. You should check with your local rectory to see if special private masses are available.

Other Faiths, Other Traditions

Historically Latino families have been almost exclusively Catholic, though many in the United States have begun accepting other faiths and denominations. There are no long-standing traditions regarding the Quinceanera celebration in other countries, but an expression of faith and devotion is still possible.
Some Quinceanera girls have chosen to hold special prayer ceremonies that allow her the chance to give thanks and praise in the company of family and friends. Others choose to spend a few moments with their parents in quiet prayer before the fiesta

This technique used by makeup artists around the world provides a flawless and smooth application of your foundation. If you aren’t a professional, chances are you pretty high that you don’t have the tools at home to try this - but we wanted to discuss it anyways just to give you some options for the perfect prom make up!

Catherine Zeta Jones wears it. So does Jennifer Lopez. Why? Airbrush makeup creates a flawless face - almost as if you took your picture and ran it through Photoshop.

Here’s how it works. A tiny amount of specialized foundation makeup is mixed with a few drops of water, and then sprayed onto the face with a wand. The result is a sheer, yet full coverage. You end up wearing less foundation, but with a flawless finish. It even hides under eye circles and rosacea.

Tools for At-Home Airbrush Application:

airbrush compressor
airbrush wand (sometimes called a pen)
hose (connects the wand and the compressor)
makeup foundation
bottled water

First time users can get this equipment in a kit. After that, all you will need is the foundation. Expect to pay from $120 to $600 or more as your initial investment. Once you’ve purchased your kit, the only further cost is foundation, which can be about $20. Some companies are making smaller compressors, which are easier for home use and for travel.

How to Apply:

1. Place a few drops of foundation into the designated cup, along with a few drops of water. (Each brand will have its own instructions telling you specifically how many drops of each to use.)
2. Hold the wand about 6 to 10 inches from your face, and spray the mixture in gentle circles over your face and neck. Never hold the wand in one place. Keep it moving. And don’t spray it into your eyes. Keep your eyes closed if you can.
3. Let it dry. If you want, you can apply a second coat. After that’s dry, you’re good to go. No need for finishing or setting powder.

What Kind of Foundation to Buy:

Airbrush makeup foundations come in two types: silicone-based and water-based. Many professionals recommend the silicone, saying that it creates a slightly more flawless look. You need to purchase dedicated airbrush makeup - you can’t use your regular foundation in these machines.

Cruelty-Free Companies:

The good news is that many airbrush companies make non-animal tested foundations. Dinair Airbrush Makeup, OCC, and Luminess are among many cruelty-free brands.

Blush and Eye Shadow:

You can buy airbrush-ready blush and eye shadow, although that may require the purchase of a special nozzle for your wand. But once your basic foundation is dry, there’s no problem using your regular powder blush and eye makeup.

Airbrush Advantages

Once airbrushed, you are good to go for up to 10 or 20 hours, with an average of around 16 hours. It won’t rub off on anything or disappear into your pores.

If you’re sharing the makeup - at a wedding, for example - the airbrush system is sanitary, since it never actually touches the skin.

Some of the kits and foundations can be used on legs, to conceal veins and discolorations. That means no panty-hose, ladies!

Special effects, such as stencil tattoos, are easily applied.

Airbrush Disadvantages

It’s expensive, especially at first.

Applying the makeup is time consuming and requires the equipment, a power supply, a water source, and enough space.

If you’re applying it on yourself and you’re alone, you’ve got to do at least parts of the application with your eyes closed. You don’t want to get the product in your eyes.

You can’t throw it into your purse like you can with mineral makeup or regular foundation.

If you use airbrush makeup a lot, you might consider some sort of face mask. No one has definitive information yet about how much of the product gets into your lungs.

Still, that ultra flawless, pore-less even look is a very appealing idea. Some women even say the makeup hides some of their wrinkles. If you want that look, airbrush makeup is certainly worth a try.
