It is with great excitement that I announce the Pearls Events Up North office is officially open for business! What started out as a Grand Rapids venture in 2007, has officially become an Up North venture as well.

While Pearls Events has always planned & coordinated weddings in the Traverse City area, that meant I was personally traveling to the area from Grand Rapids for meetings, site visits, and wedding weekends. Not ideal, but of course I made it work!

But, with weddings on the books in West Michigan, and a family here to hang out with on the weekends I'm not working, I'm pleased to announce that Mary will be the lead planner for all of our Up North weddings. She has been making connections in the area I never had, checking out local venues I've never been to, and researching the area like Pearls Events has always wanted to.

Mary & I go waaaaay back, and our husbands go even further. This will be Mary's fourth season on the Pearls Events team, and before that she owned her own wedding planning business, Lucky Girl Weddings. Prior to that she worked as an event planner for a local wedding venue. Mary is a joy to be around (we miss her already!) and a complete Type A wedding planner - all of her ducks are in a row. She's also a supportive wife, super-mom, and an amazing friend to all who know her. I'm so LUCKY to have her on the Pearls Events team representing us in the Traverse City area.

Our fourth annual GRunveiled was a complete success - even with the crappy weather we were dealt. Each year we plan this event, it always comes together. From inviting vendors to join us, to news spots where Joy'l and I invite everyone we can to get down the St. Cecilia's, it's like no other event I plan throughout the year.

Each year, I'm always afraid no one will show up - selling tickets and waiting for people to walk though the door makes my stomach turn. There is something to be said about planning events that require the public show up. Not my favorite cup of tea - I much prefer weddings where we invite people to celebrate the couple! But, nonetheless, it's a great event that I'm proud to be a part of. Here's a small sampling of the 2013 show... Thank you to EVERYONE who came, and plans for the 2014 show are already underway!

Jamie and Rob were married on Labor Day weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and it was a wonderful day to celebrate one super sweet couple! The weather was perfect - it had finally cooled down from the crazy-hot summer we had this year.

The ladies had a relaxing morning at the salon having their hair done. Then it was onto Jamie's parent's home for makeup. Our team stopped into Cascade Hills Country Club to set up some details before heading to check in on the ladies.

Rob & Jamie opted to see each other before the ceremony, so after Jamie slipped into her amazing gown, Rob arrived with his guys and photos began. It was a lovely day for photos outside and I loved the ones Jen captured of the wedding party. Not posed - just some great shots of them together! It really captures the whole day - relaxed and fun with a great bunch of family & friends.

We all headed to church for the evening ceremony, which was ideal. Even though it was a Catholic ceremony, Father Len allowed the couple to have their wedding after Saturday Mass. I LOVED this, as it meant no huge gap before the reception. After the couple were presented to their guests, everyone made their way to Cascade Hills Country Club for cocktail hour on the lawn. The wedding party arrived after family photos at church and joined them.

The wedding party was introduced into the dining room after guests were seated. Jamie & Rob did their first dance, and cut their cake before the wonderful meal prepared by the chef at Cascade Hills Country Club was served. The dancing began promptly after dinner, and didn't end until 2:00am! And I am quite certain guests would have kept going if the band would have continued! What a party; no one wanted it to end! What a wonderful way to begin a marriage - with a party no one will forget!

Jennifer contacted me last December, and I was so excited when we finally sat down at one of my favorite cafés to chat about her wedding day at Blue Dress Barn. It was great hearing about all the DIY details she was working on, and I loved how precise she was. I knew it was going to be a memorable day and when October 21st rolled around, it was great watching it unfold.

Since the Blue Dress Barn is a very popular wedding venue, Jennifer & David held a very informal ceremony rehearsal at the Round Barn Winery the afternoon before. If you get a chance to experience Round Barn Winery on a Saturday afternoon in the fall, be prepared to have fun. There were tons of people, live music, and picnicking going go. We found a quite spot behind the barn to practice the ceremony, and before I knew it, I was heading home again.

The next day, Leah and I arrived to place linens before Elizabeth arrived from Posh Petals to begin the floral set up. Jennifer picked some of my favorite linens from La Tavola, and it added so much texture to the overall design. We also used mahogany chiavari chairs, which dressed the space up. I pretty much loved every single thing she dreamt up!

Guests arrived via shuttle and enjoyed hot cider and doughnuts before the ceremony began right on time. Jennifer's mom and dad walked her down the aisle, which is my personal favorite way to process. Jennifer surprised David with his favorite Chicago-based singer, John Vincent, and he arrived right on time to do the recessional song. David was so surprised; the look on his face was priceless!

Guests enjoyed amazing appetizers from one of my very favorite caterers, Christine Ferris Catering, during cocktail hour while Jennifer & David took photos with Amy Carroll. The couple was then introduced as husband & wife, cut their cake, and sat down at their gorgeous reception for a family style meal. Everything went smoothly, and every guest had a great time from what we could tell! The party went on until the end of the night! Shuttles took guests back to hotels and they lived happily ever after :)

Even though Meghan & Will live in St. Louis, MO, the couple planned their July wedding to take place in Cadillac, Michigan, where Meghan was raised. And even though it was the hottest summer I can ever remember, July 7th in Cadillac was a beautiful day - it was perfect for a wedding!

Because Meghan's father owns Caberfae Peaks, it was a natural location to hold the reception - Meghan had practically grown up at the resort! Pearls Events assisted with the overall design of the event - from the light gray, floor-length linens and the bold pink garden roses simplistically arrange on each table, to the way the cupcakes were displayed on an amazing(!) pink linen, we helped with all of the little details that made Meghan & Will's day beautiful.

The ceremony, held at St. Agnes Church and officiated by Rev. Joseph Fix, was held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon before the Caberfae Peaks celebration. Cocktail hour began as guests arrived at the property via shuttles from the ceremony. While the wedding party did photos with their photographer, Judy Gilde, around Cadillac, their guests enjoy the most delicious appetizer spread I've seen in a while!

Dinner, dessert and dancing rounded out the rest of the evening, for an unforgettable day for Meghan & Will! It was a beautiful day we were so happy to be a part of.

Laura & Kevin were SUCH a fun couple to work with! Mary & I spoke with them via Skype in January, and we were happy to be along for such a fun-filled planning ride. On Saturday, the 6th of October, we had the pleasure of setting up all of the DIY details that Laura, her mom, her family & friends put together with such precision and love. Each guest could tell there was a lot of crafting, sewing, building and tying bows that went into this fabulous fall wedding, and the Pearls Events team was on-site to make sure it was set up with care and perfection.

With Mary, one of our event planners at Pearls Events, being located in Traverse City, she brings her planning expertise to Northern Michigan. Laura & Kevin planned their wedding from Chicago, and Mary's help was essential in pulling together all the details.

One thing we cannot plan, however, is the weather. And the forecast looked unpredictable all week long. Sure enough, as Leah and I made the drive from Grand Rapids to Traverse City that morning, it was sunny, and then rainy, and then sunny again. I can honestly say I've never seen that many rainbows in the same day - it was quite glorious!

We met Mary at Bowers Harbor Inn Estate and immediately started setting up the Peninsula Room for the reception. When the gorgeous flowers arrived from Marla Courtney Wood, I was so happy with the room, I wanted to have Laura take a peek, but since Laura & Kevin decided to not see each other before the ceremony, we didn't risk it!

The clouds parted right before Laura walked down the aisle with her father, and it was literally like a ray of light shone down on her as she approached the altar lovingly made by her dad. A little rain popped up during the ceremony, but nothing an umbrella couldn't handle.

After the ceremony concluded, guests enjoyed cocktail hour before sitting down for toasts. And I must say, this group of family & friends gave one of the most unforgettable round of toasts I've ever heard. And the final one? The final one ended like this...

Working with Molly, Tom and Molly's parent's, Jane and Jon, has been one of the most memorable experiences in my Pearls Events history. I've never been welcomed into a family as much as I have with the Pantaleoni's. It was an experience unlike any other I've had in my career and I am honored they chose to work with me. I cannot stress how finding the right planner for you will make the whole process seamless.

Now, on to the wedding details...

The 2012 summer has been one of the hottest I remember, and July 14th was no exception. Molly and her bridesmaids began hair & makeup in the morning, while the guys got ready down the road. Molly & Tom opted for a First Look with their photographer, Jen Kroll, which worked out well, as we had a ton of time to capture images before the ceremony began.

The couple exchanged vows under the large tree overlooking Lake Michigan - it was absolutely picture-perfect! After the ceremony, guests made their way onto the lawn for cocktail hour, before making their way into the dinner tent. It was breathtaking and Jenn & her team at Modern Day Floral did an excellent job of combining a modern color palette with lush blooms in shades of pinks and oranges. All of the design details were absolutely perfect and guests could not stop talking about how amazing everything looked!

After the most scrumptious meal from Christine Ferris Catering, guests made their way back to the lakeside of the home for dessert & coffee, plus dancing. The Dan Rafferty Band kept the guests on their feet until the fireworks went off, and then continued playing until guests went home! I am quite certain no one wanted to leave, but with the sound ordinance, we unfortunately couldn't keep going all night long!

It was an incredible night - one I am quite certain I will never forget!

Jackie, a former mother of the bride from 2010, contacted me earlier this year about her upcoming birthday - the big 5-0. She wasn't too excited about her birthday, but she was determined to invite her nearest & dearest to share the last evening of her 40's with her.

With her actual birthday being July 4th, we planned the celebration on the 3rd. It was a pretty darn hot Tuesday afternoon when Leah & I arrived at the cottage. It's an awesome spot that has been in the family years, with the most amazing entrance - no driveway! It's a walk-in cottage and when you take the boardwalk to the house, you feel like you're on vacation the moment you step out of your car. I can see why the entire family loves this beach house!

Leah & I arrived in the afternoon to begin setting linens before Elizabeth from Posh Petals arrived with the red flowers to really make the navy & white table linens pop. And ranunculus in JULY?!?! Elizabeth really was my go-to girl for this one!

Because of the parking constraints, we shuttled guests in, which worked really well. Appetizers from Christine Ferris Catering were ready when guests began arriving, followed by an amazing farm-to-table dinner. One thing Jackie really wanted was a Roast & Toast - and it was so much fun to hear what guests had to say - they shared stories, laughed, cried and really enjoyed this portion of the evening.

After dinner, guests enjoyed the live music, followed by a firework display complete with sparklers(!) which Leah & I passed out. With an intimate guest list, Jackie got to ring in the big 5-0 in a really fabulous way - guests did NOT want to leave!!

Jackie - I cannot thank you enough for asking me to help you with this little beach soiree. You are a wonderful client and I look forward to the next one! Cheers to the next 50!

Jennifer and Stephen live in Australia, and while Jennifer was home for Christmas 2010(!), she made time to get her 2012 wedding planning underway. Kathy, her mother, & Jennifer arrived at my office right before Christmas and we went over lots of details to get the ball rolling. Before Jennifer returned to Australia, we met one more time to get everything in place, as the rest of our 18-month planning journey would be spent Skyping instead of in-person meetings!

Loads of planning went on between December 2010 and June 2012. Between numerous site visits to make sure the tent placement was just right, and four(!) cake tastings (in which I did not mind one bit, of course...) to mother-of-the-bride dress shopping with Kathy and hours spent managing the to-do list (and checking things off!), I was invited to be part of the entire planning process alongside Jennifer and Kathy.

And on June 30th, everything came together for one glorious day on the shores of Lake Michigan with a group of guests from all over the globe. Friends & family members arrived via shuttle to the lush green grass of the bride's grandparents' lawn. They enjoyed iced drinks in the shade before grabbing a parasol and making their way to the beach for the heartfelt ceremony officiated by Jennifer's paternal grandfather.

Jennifer gave me a hug and a giant thank you before she made her way down the 88(!) stairs to the beach for one of the most amazing processionals I've ever witnessed. We had a killer sound system, so even I could hear the ceremony at the top of the bluff; it was amazing to say the least.

Guests made their way from the beachside receiving line to cocktail hour around the backside of the house. There were appetizers and signature cocktails aplenty before guests made their way through the garden gates into the illuminated tent. We set the intimate space with two long dinner tables for their 70 guests, as well as one head table near the dance floor.

Before dinner, Jennifer & Stephen put together the most entertaining family & bridal party introductions I've ever seen. They paired everyone up and gave cheeky tidbits about each person involved in their day. It was something I will soon not forget!

One of my favorite farm-to-table caterers, Christine Ferris Catering, was on hand that evening and was completely responsible for serving the most amazing dinner for the guests. Cake was cut, coffee was out, and the newlyweds showed off their mad dance skills on the dancefloor to get the party started.

Guests stayed until the last shuttle left at 2:00 a.m. and it was a wedding day I put my heart & soul into with the clients and I am SO happy with how everything turned out. Wedding professionals know that it takes a team of people to make a day happen, and this day was like no other.

Lauren and I sat down last year to discuss her wedding planning details, and after a few design meetings, lots of emails and a couple logistical meetings, all the details fell into place on June 30th at the Amway Grand Plaza.

Lauren and Mike's wedding day was absolutely stunning, as you can tell from the photos above from Bryan & Mae! While I could not be there myself, Michelle was there to make sure all of our planning & design details, plus complete event coordination, were spot-on. While I was setting up for another wedding that morning, Michelle was texting me photos of the awesome details, and I was SO bummed I could not be in two places at once.

We used four(!) different textured linens from La Tavola with my absolute favorite one being the blush colored rose textured one. Ludemas outdid themselves with the romantic, garden style arrangements chock full of peonies, roses, hydrangea and lots of other fluffy goodness. The mercury glass candle holders were from Michael's and provided by the bride, and the adorable vintage buffet which held their family photos, and also their dessert display was from Fancy Fray. Abbey from 6.25 Paper Studio did an outstanding job with all of their day-of stationery, and all of the other wedding professionals did their absolute best to provide Lauren & Mike with a beautiful wedding day!

Liz & I started chatting in October about her June wedding, and when Sunday rolled around, I was more than excited to watch everything come together at Bay Pointe Inn. Our team arrived early to begin placing linens before the spectacular flowers from Posh Petals arrived. Watching the pavilion transform from a blank slate to a gorgeous Tiffany blue, white with bold pops of red was so much fun!

The weather was picture-perfect; just a few white, puffy clouds in the sky. And since the rest of the weekend was dreary, everyone (myself included!) was thrilled the outdoor ceremony could go on as planned. After their First Look and wedding party photos with their photographer Sandy, aka The Camera Chick, guests began arriving for the ceremony on the lawn, overlooking Gun Lake. There was a slight breeze as Pastor Tucker made their 17-year union officially official!!!

After saying hello to each of their guests, the new couple, along with their wedding party, took a spin around the lake, before making their way back for the dinner reception. The food was fantastic, the decor was gorgeous, and the guests mingled all the way until the very end! As the Pearls Events team was leaving, we caught a glimpse of the Gun Lake Casino picking up the guests who continued the party there.

Liz & Ryan - thank you SO much for trusting us with your wedding day. I cannot thank you enough for being awesome clients to work with! I loved watching your grandfather walk you down the aisle, Liz, and the pontoon boat ride will be one no one soon forgets. Best wishes for a wonderful marriage!!!

Late last Fall, we had the privilege of working with Nicole & Ryan on their lovely Grand Rapids wedding. Our team arrived at the Amway Grand Plaza to drop off breakfast from Wealthy Street Bakery to the ladies before getting to work in the Pantlind Ballroom installing linens & paper products.

The couple decided to do a first look right in the Pantlind lobby with their photographers Ben & Mindy of Studio 6.23. After couple photos, the entire wedding party hit up a few of our favorite local Grand Rapids spots to do wedding party photos. And when 3pm rolled around, guests began arriving at one of the most gorgeous sanctuaries in Grand Rapids at Fountain Street Church. It was a beautiful ceremony, with the city of Grand Rapids' mayor presiding (who happens to be a childhood friend of the bride). You can hear some of his ceremony in the video above, from Coastline Studios.

After the ceremony, the guests made their way (most on foot!) to the Pantlind Ballroom inside the Amway Grand Plaza where they joined cocktail hour in the mezzanine. While guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’œuvres, the jazz band played, which was special to the couple as the bride's father joined in before dinner! The dinner bell rang, and guests made their way downstairs into the dining room. The couple cut their cake before the bride's father welcomed everyone and dinner was served.

Cancel Monday kept the dance floor packed until the very end of the night - 1:30am! - and guests enjoyed the photobooth and very special surprise to the groom - Irish dancing! It was a very, very fun evening and one that I know guests will be talking about each time November 19th rolls around.

Nicole & Ryan - thank you both so much for working with Pearls Events. I absolutely loved getting to know you throughout the process. Your families were so kind & fun to work with as well! We wish you nothing but the best in years to come.

Great Find | Monica's Gourmet Cookies

Oh my goodness, I have a new favorite (and local!) treat. Yesterday while doing my grocery shopping at my favorite market, I noticed a new display in the bakery where I usually pick up fresh bread for dinner. A display of delicious cookies in big glass containers caught my eye!

The cookies, I quickly learned, were Monica's Gourmet Cookies, based out of Grand Rapids. I picked up two signature chocolate chip, one iced almond and an iced lemon. I enjoyed one of the chocolate chip cookies yesterday as a pre-dinner treat, and then held out as long as I could after dinner to devour the iced lemon. And as of 5pm today, the other two are gone. My willpower is quite terrible these days!

I've seen photos of cookies displayed at weddings before, however, I'm not sure I've ever blogged about them because, quite frankly, I don't consider myself a cookie lover. I'm normally a traditional wedding cake lover, but these cookies have me changing my mind. Actually, I'd love to see a display of these in addition to a wedding cake!

If you're planning a West Michigan wedding and are looking for delicious, homemade cookies to serve your guests - either displayed in a dessert buffet, or possibly as favors - I suggest you pick up some of Monica's Gourmet Cookies at Horrocks where you can pick and choose which flavors you want to try. They are $1.65 each, and well worth it, especially for those, like me, who don't bake at all.

I'm embarrassed this wedding was over a year ago and I'm just sharing it now. But, as they say - better late than never - and this is one I couldn't be more excited to share!

To say the least, I love this couple. As a matter of fact, I ran into them today at Target, and realized I needed to sit down and put their images together because this was an insanely beautiful wedding celebration.

I cannot say enough kind words about their family and I loved planning this wedding with Sarah, and her mom, Debbie. Sarah is the sister of one of my 2008 brides, Kristina. After Kristina's wedding, I received the sweetest thank you note from Debbie, with a post script saying she would call me when it was time for the next daughter's wedding.

So when Debbie's email about Sarah's wedding arrived, I couldn't stop smiling for a week.

And that began our year-long journey of planning an elegant, black-ivory-gold-plum, New Year's Eve wedding together. If you are going to get married on any holiday, I would highly advise considering New Year's Eve. All of your friends & family in one spot to ring in the new year? A perfect way to celebrate your new marriage! And every single guest will most likely stay until midnight!

Sarah decided on her gorgeous gown with beautiful black belt, which set the tone for the overall event design. We landed on luxurious black crinkle taffeta linens and ivory ribbon taffeta on the guest, family & head tables after looking at various samples. They both looked stunning with gold chargers, black satin napkins folded like a bow tie accented with the gold, beaded napkin ring, It was perfect and one of my favorite designs to date.

Besides the gorgeous set up at Kalamazoo Country Club, the couple also had a memorable ceremony at the church Sarah grew up in, Third Christian Reformed Church in Kalamazoo. My favorite part was the candlelit portion near the end. Each guest lit a candle they held, very much like a Christmas eve service. The church was aglow and absolutely breathtaking!

After dinner, guests were invited to the dance floor and the photobooth before cake & coffee was served. The couple opted for individual cakes for each guests, which was perfect! And because Kalamazoo Country Club recently added an outdoor fireplace, we put together a hot cocoa bar and a smores station outside. Both were huge hits because of the mild temperatures we had that year.

And how did we ring in 2011, you ask? Mary, Stephanie & I passed out festive hats & kazoos around 11:57 and at midnight, hundreds of white balloons dropped onto the dance floor for quite the celebration.

It was an unforgettable evening for the Pearls Events team and one I will soon not forget. And I am sure their guests will remember the night for years to come, especially on New Year's Eve each year when they are at another party, most likely thinking "Gosh, do you remember Sarah & Trevor's wedding? That was one fun New Year's Eve!"

Sarah & Trevor - Thank you so, so much for working with me. It was honestly an amazing day from start to finish, and one I will not soon forget. I loved watching your day unfold and all of your guests have an amazing time. Best wishes to you both in the year ahead!

The third annual GRunveiled was a month ago already, and I wanted to share all of the unique spaces that made up the show. Just like both previous years, the spaces this year were unique and gorgeous! I love this Grand Rapids bridal show like no other and it works because of the amazing venue. If you were to put these spaces into any normal convention center, they wouldn't be nearly as awesome. A HUGE THANK YOU to St. Cecilia Music Center for hosting us for the third year in a row. We couldn't put on a show like this without them!

After chatting with Nadene on the phone during our initial consultation, I knew we'd get along swimmingly. Nadene is an event planner in Key West, having planned hundreds of events over the years, and now she was planning her own big day with Trevor.

She wanted my team there to hand the reigns over and not end up walking down the aisle with her planning binder (which her staff back in Key West told her she might do - occupational hazard, I suppose!)

She went down the aisle without a binder, I promise you that.

It was a gorgeous day in July. HOT, but gorgeous! The weather was to be expected, but I guarantee their guests were thankful for all the shade in the park during their outdoor ceremony. After the marriage was official, guests showered the couple & wedding party with rose petals during the exit & headed on over to the Harbourfront Grand Hall to get the party started.

A fabulous station-style meal began after cocktail & toasts, and there was so.much.delicious.food. Seriously, I cannot believe how many amazing options there were - Nadene & Trevor knew their guests would love variety, and they got it!

Their photographers, Studio 6.23, set up a photobooth after the party was going, and wow - did their guests have fun in that! I cannot even imagine the outtakes. Seriously fun guests at this one! Almost every guest was in from out of town, so the party went until Josh & the Empty Pockets were complete out of songs, and I have a sneaky feeling there was definitely an after party somewhere near.

Nadene & Trevor - thank you both so much for trusting Pearls Events with your big day! All of your hard work paid off - it was an amazing weekend full of fun, family & vows, and I was honored to be a small part of it. Wishing you two nothing but the best!

Lis & Troy's love for one another is infectious. Thinking about their day almost two months ago makes me smile. And it helps we are having coffee this week to have a wedding recap catch up date.

Lis & I are no strangers. She happens to be the sister of one of my 2008 clients, Kathryn. Also, Lis used to play in a quartet, which many of my clients in 2008 & 2009 used. Right after Eames was born, she called to chat about her upcoming wedding. It was the first phone call from a potential client that I was so excited about. See, I was beginning to think I wanted to close up shop, but Lis' call reminded me why I LOVE my job, and am so thankful that I get to work with super-sweet people. Add Troy, and it was a wedding planner's dream couple.

I'm gushing. Sorry. Moving right along...

Lis & Troy did one of my absolutely favorite things on the day of their wedding - they greeted their own guests as they arrived at the ceremony. Yep - no hiding for this bride; she was out hugging guests, as was Troy, as everyone made their way into the Goei Center for the ceremony.

With many different people - friends and family - taking part in their ceremony, I must admit it was one of my favorites to date. Non-traditional and completely them. Full of fantastic readings and reflections. After the marriage was official, guests made their way into the dining room, after grabbing their escort cards and checking out the raw space that the Goei Center is.

I had spent the morning & afternoon setting up the space, and I admit it looked fabulous! We used gray linens, tons of vintage books collected by the bride & groom, red pears, fresh white flowers, and tons of candles to make the room absolutely glow.

The family-style dinner from Martha's Vineyards was delicious. And my favorite was the Shepherd's Pie, a nod to their love for England! The doughnuts were adorably displayed for dessert, and their band, in which the groom is a member of, rocked all. night. long with the highlight of the evening being the bride & groom playing Come on Eileen together. It was a night their guests will soon not forget, and neither will Stephanie & I! We had a blast!

Lis & Troy - thank YOU so much for calling me and reminding me why I love my job. I wish you nothing but the best in years to come and look forward to following along on your journey.

Each year, Pearls Events offers internships to junior & senior level students. The internship is an opportunity to work alongside our team and learn the ins & outs of a wedding planner's job from our eyes. I am excited to start the interview process for our 2012 interns.

GRunveiled 2012 has come and gone. Joy'l & I planned the third annual bridal show for Saturday, January 7, and we had an amazing turnout! It was a fabulous afternoon full of fun, food & fantastic spaces created by very creative event professionals. There are all sorts of photos on the GRunveiled Facebook page, and I may try to blog some, but for now, enjoy the Pearls Events space below.

This year, I incorporated food & drinks into my space. What a fabulous idea - almost everyone stopped for a cup of cocoa & a mini cupcake.

As always, Abbey from 6.25 Paper Studio (formerly Syd Design) did all of the graphic design, based on my current obsession with chevron, and my love for Valentine's Day. I then placed an order with Swirled Cupcakes for ten dozen mini cupcakes, which are, by far, the best cupcakes I've ever tasted. Seriously. Their cookie dough cupcake? Um, ah-mazing! I will be placing an order soon for a few birthdays we have coming up. Yum.

And then I pulled out all the details to make it come together. Samovar? Check (seriously, that thing to heat up water is technically a samovar.) Candles to create some light? Check. Striped straws? Check. Trays/pedestals/cake stands? Check. Pink cups? Check. Ten canisters of Land 'o Lakes hot cocoa & 12 cans of whipped cream? Check. Oh yeah, and all the glorious toppings? CHECK!

And the best part? ONE lovely assistant to help me stir it all up and serve it fresh? CHECK! I had the pleasure of hanging out with former client, Jill - you may remember her very own chevron themed 30th birthday party at the GRAM, all afternoon.

It was a great day. I'm so happy with how everything turned out, and also thrilled we had a lot of fun people come visit us.

I've been excited to share our photoshoot we did for the current issue of InFrame Bride magazine with the amazing team of wedding professionals! Candy this year, and I couldn't be more proud of all the hard work!

Jill's birthday party details were some of my favorite because I love clean lines & bold colors. If you've been in my office, you would think I picked the color palette myself, when in fact, the inspiration came directly from Jill's blog! Everything we created was so simple on its own, but styled together, it was perfect for Jill.

Although I had Mindy Leigh come take photos on behalf of Pearls Events before the party started, Jill's brother-in-law, Brian Fett, of Obsessive Compulsive Photography, was the official event photographer. He captured the evening as it unfolded, and I LOVE the great shots he captured!

I cannot thank Mindy & Brian enough for capturing this evening for Jill. I know photos are very important to her, so Eric & I wanted to make sure every little detail was remembered for years to come.

Eric & I had coffee downtown to discuss the party he wanted to plan just before Eames was born. We've been working together on the super-secret-surprise party at the GRAM for his wife, Jill, ever since. When she walked into her party last night, I was thrilled to unveil the big surprise, and meet her - it's been a long time coming!

Jill has been following the Pearls Events blog for years. We've been in touch via blogging/Facebook/Twitter on various occasions, but our paths have never crossed until last night when Eric introduced us and we hugged like old friends.

Our team arrived to start setting up in the afternoon, and by 3pm I was receiving texts about how excited & nervous Eric was. He compared it to the day he proposed to Jill and how the day was going SO slowly, because he just wanted to get the party started. I wanted everything to be perfect when they walked into the Member's Lounge of the GRAM. And it was. I could not have been happier with how everything came together.

Guests began arriving for the big surprise, and half an hour later, the guest of honor walked off the elevator to a round of Happy Birthday. Jill's brother-in-law, Brian, of Obsessive Compulsive Photography was on hand the entire evening to capture the night, and I cannot wait to see Jill's reaction as she stepped off the elevator! I plan on adding a follow up post with those images as they are available from Brian.

Guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers on the veranda, before dinner overlooking Rosa Parks Circle in the glassed-in boardroom at the GRAM. After dinner and another round of Happy Birthday with the adorable chevron cake, guests made their way back to the veranda for cake & ice cream sundaes while Brant Satala provided music well into the night.

With ArtPrize taking over downtown Grand Rapids, the city was ALIVE with art and, what seemed like, the entire community. What an AMAZING night to be in the heart of our beautiful city.

Jill - I wish you another amazing 30 years with your family & friends. Everyone who surrounded you last night was an absolute joy. I look forward to running into you more often!

Eric - I cannot express how much fun it has been working alongside of you to make sure this day was perfect. Thank you for trusting my vision and all my ideas. You were the ideal client and one I will miss.
