I continue reading articles and hearing self-appointed gurus expounding on how differently everything has to be done since digital technologies have changed every thing. I’m wondering.

True, there are some points of divergence between your way business is done on the internet and via conventional channels. Things are faster for one thing. Instant gratification has been Amazon’s important to success, I would recommend. Admin is becoming simpler with digital records. Skills required to run the platform are various. But so were they when mobile phones, faxes, air travel and even telephones first got into revolutionise methods of transaction. Let’s not forget that transactions are what clients are about – various parties agreeing on a trade between entities, which need to become detailed, implemented and recorded. We simply use whatever tools are available to us to do this as cost-effectively as possible.

Let us neither forget that human interaction still lies in the centre of business. Why else have social media which facilitate relations become so prevalent? Simply because we have to connect with other people who do the jobs we have to be done to be able to transact company. The people nonetheless need human skills like relationship developing, decision-making and communication, none of which are removed by the digital tools used to help them along. “Management” is usually used erroneously as which means the methods or processes of economic. Management is usually the application of resources – assets, funds the ones – towards the achievement of objectives set by the Directors. The way this be changed through the mere reality of digital platforms being used to execute tasks? Those who do the work should be directed, motivated, remunerated and applied successfully towards the tasks. This really is management.

Occasionally apparently new ways of managing are associated with digital companies. The pool table within the room; the lack of hierarchies; the casual approach to dress and meetings are cited as proof of novelty. However these aren’t so much the effect of digital technology as the methods for the inventive globe. Ad agencies have for many years worked such flexible methods. Science labs have small hierarchy and fluid collaboration as standards. Digital businesses, it is true, need to move fast because of the high speed of redundancy of merchandise and technologies, placing a premium on creativity and top our planet to function within the methods of creatives. But even in these, communication skills, objectives, measurement of effectiveness are all component and parcel.

So before you decide to listen to the siren voices attempting to attract you to believing that all things have to be new, keep in mind that the core requirements and activities of economic stay as accurate these days because they ever were.
