WIDTH: 262px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 199px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="http://www.johnthurlow.com/children/Software/blurb_audacity.jpg" />

Audacity is a free, open source audio editor that supports Windows, Mac, and Linux. It is a great program for beginners, its easy to use and can be a very valuable tool to use in your everyday computing tasks.

I constantly use Audacity for the same task, such as pod cast or how it’s done videos. This program makes the windows sound recorder obsolete. What makes it so nice is that you can easily edit your recording. For example you make a pod cast and you are the type of person that sometimes pause’s between words, you can take that sort pause and put in a silence so that there is no noise or delete part of that pause to make it disappear.

One can use simple audio effects, like a compressor, to even out any peaks in the sound or amplify, to amplify the volume level of the song. The effects seem sufficient however, the effects are still not studio quality. At the same time that’s what makes it easy because this is not a confusing studio program. The chief weak point here is that effects can only be applied destructively, which means you permanently modify the audio when you save it. Of course it has a undo button but that can only be used until you save your work. You cannot go back later and turn a compressor off or fine-tune an EQ again the way you can in more advance packages.
One can also import other recordings such as songs recorded Pod Cast ect. This is great for mixing your daughters cheerleader try out music so to say. Mixing songs dose take a lot of work and creativity, something I’m lacking.

The Tech Specs

Audacity can record and edit 16-bit, 24-bit, and 32-bit (floating point) samples, and up to 96 KHz. sample rate. What this means is that although some of it's tools are simplistic, Audacity's audio quality is no slouch; it performs up to professional standards.
There are unlimited Undo (and Redo), and the only limit to the number of tracks you can edit and mix are the limits of your computer's processor and RAM. The program comes with several installed effects, including one that can help remove static, hiss, hum, or other constant background noises. You can also load and use VST plug-ins with the add-on VST Enabler, which gives you access to the very big world of free VST plug-ins online (although these will still be applied destructively).
Although audacity is not a top-notch audio program. Audacity is simple to use and works well, and many people decide to stay with it because it works for them.

I give Audacity the following ratings

10 out of 10 for affordability
7 out of 10 for easy of use

7 out of 10 for the need of the program (how many things you can use it for)

This has been a Pc Knowledge For Me Review

Pc User 101

http://pcknowledgeforme.blogspot.com/

Audacity Review Will Be Coming Out Tomorrow!!

Expect for an audacity review to come out tomorrow. Well I came across a video on You Tube that I must say was a pretty unbelievable site to see. The guys at Pugetsystems.com took an old computer and submerged all the parts in mineral oil, the computer ran strong as ever and the CPU temperature even dropped a bit. They then took a computer that had a load of high-end parts in it and submerged it in the oil as well. They ran graphic test on it to see how it would perform in the mineral oil under extreme loads. They were surprised to see that when they over clocked their CPU and put it under a heavy workload, the mineral oil kept it pretty stable and cool. (Information about over clocking your CPU http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Computer_Science/2005/overclocking.asp) However when they over clocked it even more they had to do modifications such as adding a small radiator and pump to circulate the oil and re-cool it to room temperature. They also added bubbles to the tank, in hopes that the bubbles would capture heat with in the air bubble and disperse the temp evenly through out the tank.
The reason the electrical components would not short circuit in the oil, is because mineral oil is not conductive. Did you know, you could even put electrical parts in purified water and they will not short circuit for a wile? (Key words “for a wile”) eventually the water would become ionized from the metals on the electronics and thus short-circuit your electrical components. (I’m not saying you should try it by no means.) If you are interested and want to take a further look in to it, there is a bundle of more information about there project on there website.

http://www.pugetsystems.com/

The video below is the video i came accross so check it out!

I give pugetsystems.com the following ratings
8 out of 10 for ingenuity
5 out of 10 for originality (It has been done before but not on a professional level like this)
8 out of 10 for good content on there site
9 out of 10 for the wow!! factor.

This has been a Pc Knowledge For Me Bloggers review-Pc User 101-

<itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:subtitle>Has any one heard of cooling your computer by submerging it in a liquid? (That is right free!) For those that are not familiar with openoffice.org, they let you down load their programs off their web site for free with no gimmicks and it is not a trial run. The programs are basically a mock of Microsoft's office programs. I have used openoffice.org Writer (witch is like word) and I must say it's a pretty good mock of Microsoft’s Word, but what makes it even better is that it is totally free. For those that have a need or a future need for a data base program, Openoffice.org has a program called Base (it like Microsoft Access) and it is phenomenal as well. There is one thing that I have come to realize about these programs that openoffice.org offer's, it hasn’t yet became popular enough to become some what of a secondary standard. You can’t do a slide show and take it to a business meeting and expect to open it on any computer because not everyone is using these programs. How ever on the other hand if you or a big company needs a bundle of programs for multiple computers they do not have to spend a dime for a good word processor. They will then save a bundle of money and have a quality product. If im not mistaken, openoffice.org has a really good support forum. I suspect that once this organization gets is more prominent and more popular it will eventually turn into a profit company and they will market there programs and possibly even be competition for Microsoft’s Office. If you want to check it out and get your free programs I would do it soon because I’m sure the time is ticking on there free offer.
Over all I give the programs a 8.3 of 10 for easy of use
10 out of 10 for cost 5 out of 10 for portability.

PC Knowlege For Me Interduction

Hi all and welcome to my blog site!
