Start your engines! The Drive to Daytona 500

The Daytona 500 is a 500-mile long race and currently Jamie Murray is the defending champion of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. It is the first series race of the year and is regarded by many as the most important, nicknamed the “Superbowl of Stock Car Racing”. The events attracts 200,000 NASCAR fans to this opening event of the racing season. The winner is presented with the Harley J. Earl Trophy in Victory Lane and the winning car is displayed, in race track condition, for one year at the Daytona 500 Experience, a museum dedicated to this race, next to the speedway. If you're traveling to partake in the Daytona 500 experience, you're likely flying into either Orlando International Airport (MCO) or Tampa International Airport (TPA). Many tourists and NASCAR fans will rent a car in Orlando and Tampa and drive to Daytona Beach, which is a relatively short driving distance away. Rental cars tend to sell out fast before and during the so-called "Race week", so make sure to book your rental car many days in advance. Traveling to Anchorage, Alaska for Christmas

Have you considered traveling to Alaska around Christmas? Alaska may not be the first place you think of visiting in the winter time, but it is actually not a bad choice of a destination. Alaska has a head start on many places when it comes to seasonal activities. Already white with snow by late November, Anchorage hosts some great Christmas events, performances and festivals for visitors to enjoy. Music lovers will appreciate the wonderful performance of Christmas music performed by the Alaska Chamber Singers at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in early December. Everything from classical masterpieces to family carols is covered in their repertoire. Music of a different kind can be enjoyed at the Atwood Concert Hall when the Preservation Hall Jazz Band puts on a swinging family-friendly Christmas performance. Closer to Christmas, the Alaska Chamber Singers perform a Carol Concert on December 11 at St Andrew Church, just north of Anchorage at Eagle River.

Spending Christmas in Kansas City

Missouri is unofficially called the “Show-Me State” and it is a most appropriate slogan for Christmas in Kansas City, MO. The events kick-off in mid-November with the Country Club Plaza Lighting Ceremony. 2010 is the 81st annual event which attracts crowds of 200,000 spectators.
