As a part of the Paul Penders charity, Paul Penders recently sponsored eyesight-restoring operations for five children through the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund (CCTF).

Established in July 1981, the CCTF is the first nationwide organization to raise funds that promote the education and welfare of children and adolescents throughout China.

Over the past 27 years, the group has touched the lives of more than one million people across the country through vocational training for girls, summer camps, earthquake relief, employment and entrepreneurship training, school aid and other programs.

As part of its mission to help children live healthier lives, the CCTF organizes sight-restoring operations for those whose blindness can be corrected through surgery.

Physicians typically perform treatment at no charge, and donated funds of about $700 per child are used to offset hospital and other medical costs.

Katja, the daughter of founder Paul Penders and a marketing manager for the company, is currently featured as the naturally beautiful face of Paul Penders.

Katja will continue to represent the products, now with a more updated and modern look.

As a part of the Green Month Campaign 2009 in Malaysia, the market was organized by The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) under the motto “A Small Change for a Better World”.

Paul Penders had a booth at the market and all profits will go unlimited to The Malaysian Nature Society.

In charge of the Paul Penders booth were Hasnah and Yvonne. They were not selling second-hand books or T-shirts like many of the other booths did.

No, they sold no less than pure natural organic Paul Penders moisturizers, shampoos, lipsticks, body lotions and many other Paul Penders items – for a fraction of their retail prices!

The products were all from the remaining stock of products packed in the old package design. All the products were well within their last day of use, but unfortunately wrapped in the “wrong” jar, bottle or tube to qualify them to be sold retail.

Many of the flea market guests ended the day having done a real bargain!

A small, personal note:

The following day, I went to pay my monthly rent. While I was counting the money, the woman at the office took something out of her handbag and with a big smile on her face said to me: “See what I found at the flea market yesterday.”

One of Paul Penders’ very good friends – Naylene Vuurens from Tropical Charters on Langkawi – told us the story and was so very kind to let us publish her pictures.

Sailing along the shores of Langkawi, Naylene and the other passengers suddenly spotted something “big” on the horizon. Everybody started watching and soon they realized what it was.

It turned out to be at least five whale sharks! As the big animals got closer to the boat – swimming just underneath the water surface, then for the next moment to be fully visible on the surface – it was really possible to see how huge they were.

The whale sharks swam underneath the boat, along it, around it, and with Naylene’s own words “gave us a real show!”

The “show” turned out to last for two hours, stunning and amazing everyone on board.

Many in these areas have heard about whale sharks, but few have actually seen them.

Here are a few facts about whale sharks:

• The whale shark is the biggest fish of the world; it can be up to 53 ft (16 meter) long and weigh more than 13 tonnes.
• The whale shark is harmless and it is possible for divers to swim together with this slowly swimming shark
• The divers just have to beware of one thing: the whale shark’s powerful tail which can stun a diver.
• When a whale sharks’ mouth is open the water is filtered for food. The whale shark can filter op to 25,000 US gallons (95,000 liter) of water every hour.
• It feed on plankton, small fish, ten-armed cuttlefish, big fish like mackerel and small tuna.
• The whale shark lives in hot water from 30 degree north to 40 degree south.
