Alright, so you’ve procured your word list, copied it down by hand (hopefully), and memorized it.

You should have also written yourself an email and made your chimerical phone call to a friend.

Now it’s time to get on with your day using…

Step #5 Conversation Steering

On your way to school or work, you’re gonna wanna start thinking about some of the conversations you will be having throughout the day with people.

My female readers will be quite familiar with this. Females often know exactly what they are going to be talking about with their friends and coworkers throughout the day, guys not so much. Then again, guys tend not to be the conversationalists that girls are.

It follows that, in the beginning, men may find Step #5 more difficult than women.

Think back to your email and the imaginary phone call and think about how you might be able to bring up those topics again when you meet people throughout the day.

Who do you plan on seeing today?

How do you two usually start off your conversations?

How can you gently and subtly steer the conversation towards the subject matter of the email you sent yourself?

Stand-up comedians use this technique constantly to test out new material for the stage. The trick is not being too selfish or trying to dominate the conversation. You want to really be listening sharply to what the other person is saying. When you take a genuine interest in him or her, you will easily see how your email fits into their life and why they would enjoy you sharing it.

Now, you don’t have to use all 25 new words to the first person you tell the story too. Use as many as feels appropriate without sounding to far out of character. You don’t want to sound like you are auditioning for a play.

So while you are on your way to school or work, try to come up with at least 3 people that you KNOW you will run into during the course of your day. Now look into your mind’s eye (keep your eyes open if you are driving!) and picture the setting.

Where do you usually meet the person?

What do they look like?

What does their voice sound like? What does your voice sound like when you are speaking to them?

Picture every little detail and see yourself telling the story of your email to your friend…how you are going to bring it up and how it relates to his/her life.

If you can manage to tell your email story using a dozen or so new words you are gonna be in great shape.

Now, I hope you still have your list of 25 new vocabulary words on you. It should in your pocket at all times.

You should be looking it over several times during the day.

Every time you go to the bathroom, take out your list and look it over.

It shouldn’t take more than a minute.

(You can now see that drinking a lot of water, is not only good for flushing out the toxins from your body, but it will facilitate your verbal growth.)

If you must relieve your bowels, EVEN BETTER!

That will give you even more time to think about how you can use your new words in conversation.

If you are someone who sends a lot of text-messages, then be sure to slip a couple new words into ever text.

Every time you send an email, keep your list handy and work a few new words into it.

These are the most important ways to work new vocabulary into your life, but there are surly hundreds more.

Be creative.

When you go grocery shopping, compliment the cashier with a new word. Describe your food to yourself or others with your new vocabulary.

The possibilities are endless.

If you really do make an effort to do these tiny little things on regular basis, you will notice by the end of the day, you are completely comfortable using all your new words. In fact, you might feel at a loss for words without them.

All these small things take very little time and effort, but the effect they have on your vocabulary can be elephantic.

Alright, next time we will move on to Day 2 of How to Easily Master 100 NEw Vocabulary Words per Week”

Well, now you know how to compliment a strange woman on her cleavage without getting slapped. If you can manage to calmly deliver the compliment without laughing or making any obviously perverted contortions with your face, she will most likely feel quite enamored by your approach.

Tell her that it’s a shame bathycolpian women such as herself are so hard to find these days.

The word sounds so poetic and shakespearean that she will think you’re comparing her to some victorian royalty. Just be cool, don’t overdo it, and move quickly on to asking her how she managed to get so unique.

We all know that when we hear a word that ends in “-phobia” that denotes some kind of irrational fear. The word “phobia” is derived from the Greek word phobos meaning panic or fear, but how did the beginnings of the words come to be? i.e. “claustrophobia”?

That’s what we are going to find our here at Paul Needza Education’s “Phobia of the Day”.

Coprastasophobia- an overwhelming, irrational fear of becoming constipated

Sounds ludicrous doesn’t it?…but it’s actually one of the more common phobias that afflict mankind.

Coprastasophobia can be brought on by a trauma connected with constipation or irregular bowel movements in general. The afflicted find themselves unable to lead a normal life and often become addicted to consuming mass quantities of laxatives.

The first half of coprastasophobia comes from the Greek word kropos which means “dung”. Coprostasis, or impaction of feces on the intestine, is another word derived from the same root.

Okay, thanks for stopping by and tune in tomorrow for Paul Needza Education’s “Phobia of the Day”

Prof. Paul brings you the SEXIEST vocabulary everyday.

Frottage- sexual excitement or GRATIFICATION (ewww) derived from covertly rubbing one’s body up another person in a crowded public setting such as a subway, elevator, or bus

Frotteur- a male who engages in frottage

Fricatrice- a female who engages in frottage

I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that everyone at one time or another in there life has committed frottage…at least on some level.

Also since the act of frottage takes place mostly in the mind, there’s no telling how many times you have been a victim of frottage. It’s almost like trying to figure out how many times someone has masturbated while fantasizing about you.

Roots:

Frotter - French - to rub

Chimerical Conversation

This is the part where you really start to anchor these new 25 words into you personality. Remember, we are making these words part of our new personality, not just forcing our brains to retain them.

The reason why most vocabulary building systems fail in the long run is because they never take into consideration that a person with an expansive working vocabulary has an entirely different personality than a person with a limited vocabulary.

Building a vocabulary has more to do with personal change than it does with memorization.

You cannot be the same person that you always have been and expect to see any significant upshots in your verbal ability. You need to learn how to see the world through new eyes.

Wordsmart and other vocabulary building programs fail to recognize this and in the end, nearly everyone who buys the program ends up using the same trite words in conversation as they always did.

Take a look around.

Millions of people have gone through the Wordsmart program and yet the working vocabulary of the average person continues to dwindle.

Alright, the point here is not to reprehend Wordsmart. The point is to illuminate you as to what you are in for in the upcoming weeks.

Any kind of personal development you undertake is going to screw with your reality. People are going to be treating you differently. Sometimes better, sometimes worse.

You are going to be treating yourself differently as well. You will expect more from yourself and in turn, you will most like start expanding more form others. This might isolate you from your current peers, however you might also find new peers who support you in your ambitions.

Often in life, you will find that people do not want to see their friends succeed.

They just want their friends to be static, something they can always count on being their. Most people use friends just as a means to create the illusion of a stable milieu for themselves.

You will notice that when you can no longer be the inert pillar in their life that they want you to be, that your friends start to disappear. When you can no longer be “the old standby”, most of your friends will lose interest in you. This is where the old adage “ignorance is bliss” applies.

Quantum leaps in personal development will enlighten you to as who your true friends are. You may find that not as many people will support you on your journey as you had counted on.

Many are going to feel hurt and abandoned by your change. What is positive for you is negative for them. Your personal success turns a mirror on them and reminds them of their own hebetude and shortcomings.

That having been said, if you still want to brave the waters of verbal development, here is…

Step #4 Imaginary Conversation

Open up the email that you have just sent yourself and glance it over.

Now, lean back and close your eyes.

Think of a friend of family member, someone you would normal talk about your day with. In your mind’s eye, see them sitting in front of you. Look at their faces. Notice the details. Notice what they are wearing. How they are sitting. What their hands are doing. Meditate on this for about 30-60 seconds until you have a sharp picture of them in focus.

Now, open up your eyes, and keeping the picture you made of friend in mind, take out your cell phone (if you don’t have phone, just pretend you’re talking to someone via the computer).

Find your friend’s name in your contact list and PRETEND to hit send.

Put the phone up next to your ear and pretend that it is ringing. Then, picture you friend picking up and saying “hello”.

Now, SPEAKING OUT LOUD, great your friend.

“Hey Kenny!”, “What’s going on?” “Really, that’s cool, hey listen…”

This is where you start reading your email aloud as though you were actually telling speaking to your friend and telling him what’s going on in your life.

Try to use some of your natural stutters and colloquialisms while you speak.

If you call people “dude”, call him dude. “Dude, you’re not gonna believe this… so I was at the football game yesterday…”

If you say stuff like “So I was like, and she was all” mix that in too.

Whatever it takes to make the conversation feel like a REAL conversation. You should feel as though using these words is the way you would NATURALLY express yourself. You want to feel like if someone were to take these words away from you would be at a loss for words.

When you have gotten through the entire email, end the conversation the way you normally would.

“Alright, Kenny, cool, tell your mom I said hi, alright, see ya tomorrow, bye”

Pretend to hang up the phone and put it back in your pocket.

That’s it.

Put your list of words in your pocket and go eat breakfast.

Next time we will discuss what you are going to be doing throughout the rest of the day to keep these words at the forefront of your memory.

This will be the 5th and final Step of Day 1. See you there.

Again if you haven’t already read the Introduction, Step #1, and Step # 2, you must go back and do so now before you proceed.

Now for those of you who are up to speed, let us press onward.

So far you have procured your list of 25 New Vocabulary Words, you have memorized them and now…it’s time to PERSONALIZE them!

Step #3 Write yourself an email.

That’s write ! (sorry for the cheap pun)

Get on your computer and write yourself an email. Tell yourself about your day using all 25 of your newly acquired words while they are fresh in your head.

Treat it like a journal entry.

Make it as personal as you can. Describe the people around you, your thoughts, your emotions, and events that recently took place.

Complain about your boss or your mom, whatever comes to mind. Try to make it as impassioned as you can. Feel the words flow out of you, knowing that you are choosing the BEST possible words to describe your life. See if you can use two of your new words in one sentence.

The entire email should not take you more than few minutes to compose.

If you need to refer to the list as a reminder while you write the email, you can either keep www.paulneedzaeducation.com open in separate window next the your email window, or you can simply keep your hand-written sheet of paper handy.

After you have completed your email, give it a quick proof read and click “send”.

Now, for the rest of the day, every time you check your email, I want you to go in and read the letter you’ve written to yourself.

See if you still remember the definitions of all 25 new words.

Make sure you keep your slip of paper with the 25 definitions in your on you at all times throughout the day.

When you are returning emails to your friends, coworkers, etc, try to see how many of your new words you can slip into your letters without it sounding too odd.

We will talk about email more in the days to come, but right now we’re getting ahead of ourselves. You still have one more quick and easy step before you complete your training for Day 1.

I will share the final step tomorrow with in “How to Easily Master 100 New Vocabulary Words per Week (Day 1; Step 4).

For now, you can look at a sample email that I wrote to myself some time ago.

It’s called “Thoughts on the Human Predicament” and it should help you get an idea of how such an email should look.

Yours does not have to be nearly as long because you only have 25 new words. Also be sure to use your own style and voice when writing.

Feeding on the beestings of the Milky Way, confabulating with each other instead of the universe, we find ourselves hidebound and lame. Our hebetude is what hinders us, not our technology, not our politics. These are only byproducts of our hebetude. These are the distractions which we vociferate upon ourselves.

These are not mere spats of mine. These are sidereal contemplations. Why settle mundane when the stellar awaits? Our relations are but apocryphal interpretations of our liminal existence between dream and death.

I only wish to encourage others to deepen the profundity of their lives. Deep inside, I know they too wish to surcease their lollygagging and wax their mind, body, and spirit. They too want to push the envelope of human endeavor just as I do.

All they need is to be jarred by a little inveigh, a little kick in the ass.

Alright, maybe I underestimate the gravity of the foot spat that is required.

A little harangue never hurt anyone, no matter what we are cajoled into believing.

The human race sees everything backward. Perhaps this is the human condition. They would accuse me of being too draconian in my philosophies, yet it is their frigorific hearts which precipitate their doom.

Not MY doom I say!

No longer shall my experience be dictated by their chimerical decrees. No longer shall I fall victim to their selfish gluttonous memes.

Sometimes, I believe all these patterns and assizes were put here as part of the software program that fecundates this illusion we call life. These tumults were just put here to flummox us. The truly astute among us shall find their way out of the this carapace. They will become immune to the impugn…unlike our vapid brothers and sisters.

They have left us clues to countervail the feckless from the intrepid. I will not be thwarted, only inspired and entertained.

I shall evert myself. My alacrity will show me the way as long as I do not fall victim to their tricks of dolor. I will not wallow. I will find requital because I do not seek it. For the wool they attempt to pull over my eyes is but a voile, galling at best, but never debilitating.

All that I witness is merely a tessera in a giant Seurat painting. I would like to see the view from the back of the chamber.

Repugn not nature with a malleus, rather cast yourself into the coppice.

Democracy should not run our planet, but rather meritocracy.

Those who are able, are those who progress. They are the natural leaders. The ones who never set out to be leaders, never looked to rule or accrue power for base pleasure, but rather those whose lust for life leads them to the limen of human experience.

Why do these strong fellows find themselves drowning in a sea of mollycoddles?

And why are their brothers and sisters so timorous, so trepid?

Why are their lives so insolvent when we live in an abundance of titillating curios and objet d’arts?

Do they not adore the marvel, the mystery?

Are they not enamored by the simple cogitation of our experience against the sidereal back drop?

Do they not crave to see the upshots of their curiosities manifest?

Now…on with today’s lesson.

Carnival

Again, let us break down the word into its constituent parts.

Two Latin roots:

Carne - flesh

like in carnivorous, meat eating.

and

Levare - to lift

like in levitate, or leverage.

Put it together and we get…lifting the meat???

Does that have something to do with the Ferris Wheel lifting fleshy humans into the air? Perhaps it has something to do with the Freak Show.

Actually, there is a bit of history behind this word.
It actually comes to us second-hand from the Italian word carnelevare, which has to do with the tradition of Catholics removing meat from their diet in recognition of Lent.

The carnival came to be when the Italians began holding extravagant masquerades in the streets before the first day of Lent.

It wasn’t too long until the tradition became quite famous and spread throughout the rest of Europe and eventually to America.

Alright, now that you know this, I’m sure you start seeing these roots all over the place. Try to take the time to notice and come back tomorrow for more Latin and Greek wisdom !

Here’s a faux riddle to introduce our new phobia? (Seeing how you already know the answer from having read the title)

What do cats and hippies have in common?

Give up?

They both suffer from ABLUTOPHOBIA…or an irrational fear of bathing or washing oneself.

Admittedly, the author may also be stricken by the symptoms of ablutophobia from time to time.

The Latin word abluere means to wash away or cleanse. We get the words ablution, a washing, abluted, thoroughly washed, and abluent, cleansing agent from this same root.

Okay, thanks for stopping by and tune in tomorrow for Paul Needza Education’s “Phobia of the Day”
