Grevelis Racing Partnership Update

I Am Woman is entered this Sunday at Saratoga Raceway. It’s a non-claiming event that Ted Grevelis feels may prove to be a bit over her head, though she has already done relatively well in this class at Saratoga as opposed to Monticello. He adds that if he was managing her career, her campaign would shape up a bit differently.

Grevelis Racing is looking forward to this fall and 2010. They are actively shopping for a Thoroughbred to race the Tampa Bay Downs/Remington Park/Canterbury circuit with Bernell Rhone. Ideally they would like to buy a lightly raced two year old that they can develop into a nice contender for some of the three year old races. They would love to discover a horse that can follow in the footsteps of Canterbury’s 3-year old Colt of Year, Perfect Bull who has won and placed in stakes races throughout the Midwest this past summer including the Minnesota Derby and Minnesota Classic.

Ted Grevelis is planning to raise about $18,000 which means that a 10% share would be $1,800 and 5% share $900. They will also be employing the services of a top bloodstock agent to help them nail down a solid runner. He asks anyone interested to contact him and he will send them a contract. He’s looking to strike while the iron is hot immediately an opportunity arises, so he hopes to get contracts out and settled over the next few weeks.

Partnership Filly Hot n’ Dusty Retires

alt="Hot n Dusty" width="300" height="197" />Little Red Feather’s ‘iron maiden’ filly Hot n’ Dusty has been retired from racing.

“She gave us everything she had,” said LRF’s dejected managing partner Billy Koch. “What an amazing run. I’m sorry it’s over, but it’s on to the breeding shed where I’m sure she will pass down her tremendous heart and work ethic.”

Dusty’s career spanned 15 months and included 23 races. She earned $345,971 from 4 wins, and 17 in the money finishes (74%). But for her 4th place finish to Zenyatta she ended her career with 15 consecutive finishes in the money. Dusty is currently the leading 2009 Unusual Heat progeny with $311,011 in earnings.

Besides her obvious ability to rebound quickly from races her versatility made it easy to select races for her. She earned $170,975 on synthetic surfaces and $174,996 on the turf. She raced at three tracks, on six different racing surfaces and won at distances ranging from 6.5 furlongs to a mile and sixteenth.

In four stakes races, Dusty finished 2nd in both the Solana Beach Handicap, and Adoration Stakes, 3rd in the Cal Cap Matron and 4th in the G1 Vanity to Zenyatta.

“It’s a sad day in the LRF barn,” explained LRF’s other managing partner Gary Fenton. “She will be missed.”

Immense Fortune

Horseplayers Racing Club, LLC, has shares available in two-year-old filly Immense Fortune. This good looking filly by Consolidator out of a winning AP Indy mare will be racing in Oklahoma for trainer Shane Seaton, one of the region’s top trainers.

Partners and Trainer Terry Gillihan Celebrate the Big Win

Horseplayers Racing Club, LLC, won a small stakes at Emerald with their four-year-old filly Trainingat the Bar when she took down the Sundae Passion on closing weekend. A winner of 5 races from 8 starts, the filly rallied from 15 lengths back to win going away and is heading south to face tougher company.

Another cause for celebration was a recent win when Most Popular romped home by 9 lengths at Golden Gate in her last start. With an equipment change, the filly moved up to join the leaders turning for home and rolled home the easiest of winners.

WSU researching stem cells and surgical technique to heal equine suspensory ligament injuries

Suspensory ligament injuries are a common problem in horses that can result in performance-limiting lameness. In addition, chronically affected horses that are unresponsive to rest and rehabilitation programs may be unable to return to the same use as before the injury, and subsequently may be retired or euthanized.

Kentucky Horse Council Snips Away Unwanted Horses

Lexington, KY–Indiscriminate breeding has widely been recognized as one contributing factor to the increasing numbers of unwanted horses. The Kentucky Horse Council (a member of the Kentucky Horse Park’s National Horse Center) is now offering incentives for responsible Kentucky horse owners to reduce the number of horses capable of reproduction through a geld voucher program.

The program is funded by SoHo (Save Our Horses) a tax deductible fund to support KHC Health & Welfare offerings.

“Our responsibility in managing SoHo is to provide better alternatives for Kentucky’s at risk horses. Limiting the number of unqualified breeding colts and stallions in Kentucky is a giant step toward reducing the likelihood of crisis that many unwanted horses face,” KHC Board President Madelyn Millard said.

Eligible applicants may work directly with local veterinarians to schedule services. After service completion, the veterinarians are directly paid a portion of fees (up to $100 per horse not to exceed $250 per household for multiple horses).

“This program is a win-win for Kentucky horses because their owners will have access to affordable castration services and the horses will be seen by a local veterinarian,” Millard continued. “While onsite to perform the geld service, the veterinarian may also be able to provide the owner information on up to date herd health management practices. Ultimately this may lead to an improved relationship between the equine veterinarian and their clientele.”

Geld voucher funding is available by advance application only to Kentucky residents with non-commercial operations. Restrictions and some limitations apply. All arrangements for castration services are the responsibility of the horse owner and should be made after application approval.

Button Down Racing Partnerships’ Success Story

Horseracing partnerships formed by Button Down Racing hit the board in each of their four starts at the recently concluded Turfway Park Fall Meet, finishing with a slate of 4-1-2-1. The record was compiled by four different horses.

First time starter Clockwork Angel won at first asking in a maiden special weight on September 11, the same night as Button Dancer finished second. Brunette was up for the place on September 20 and Sun Button ran third on September 26. Total earnings for the racing partnerships were $17,180.00.

New Racing Partnership for Grevelis Racing Stable

After recently losing Fizzy Pop recently at the claim box, Grevelis Racing Stable LLC is looking to put together a new claim. They tell me they are looking to raise a total of $20,000 with minimum shares at 5% or $1,000. This will include the price of the horse ($8000 – $12,500) and three months’ initial expenses.

Ted L. Grevelis, the Managing Partner says he also has a few leads in California on some better than average racing two-year olds that he’s are looking at buying into. It would be a small percentage, but that would enable folks to buy in with 1% increments from $300 – $500 plus monthly fees (about $30 per share per month).

Next week he also has an opportunity to join another racing partnership in the Mid-Atlantic region to purchase a nice 2-year old at the Timonium, Maryland sale. Grevalis Racing is considering a purchase for about $25,000 which, given the past history of the sale and the depressed market, has proven to be a sweet spot for regional stakes quality horses.

Grevelis racing also wants to remind people to tune in or download their Radio Show next Wednesday night when they plan to discuss the raising of capital for racing partnerships. Ted hopes that it’ll be an interesting half hour!

It would appear that they are winning races of a significantly higher level because for the whole of 2008 they had 15 winners for an Average Per Start of $4,943
