Monday post until Monday at 9pm my time. Because I definitely have not been neglecting my blog ever since I started using Twitter . I am not currently following 300+ people and trying to read all their tweets. I did not <s>stalk</s> follow the birth of Dooce’s baby. I certainly wouldn’t have endlessly refreshed her page and shouted encouraging tweets at her during labour. I did not stay up late wondering if I’d be one of the first people to catch the birth announcement. I am not on twitter enough that I would see when she went into labour, when she had given birth, and rush off to her website the minute she announced the name. I was not insanely jealous that she had over 100 comments in the first 2 minutes after posting and over 500 in less than an hour. (Speaking of famous bloggers, I did not get excited when I got an e-mail from MckMama. And if I had I wouldn’t have tweeted about it) Ahem. I certainly am not addicted to the internet.

I do not spend more time looking at job postings and talking about applying for jobs than I do actually applying for them. I did not have a dream about a really well paying job that came with a Porsche. The only catch was that it would be a 3 hour daily commute. I’m glad I don’t actually have to make that decision in real life.

I do not think that all our problems will be solved once we move out of our cramped apartment to our new house. I am not looking forward to the kids having a designated play area instead of taking over our living room and kitchen with their toys. I am not overwhelmed by the choices I need to make concerning paint colours. I am not also overwhelmed by the choices I need to make when I redesign my blog in Wordpress. I am not thinking of articles and blog posts to write but waiting until the new site to publish them.

And now I am not off to clean my house for the sole reason that there is a babysitter coming over tomorrow.Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06983161969233970719noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150179314060105868.post-47360285628013273242009-06-12T02:48:00.003-07:002009-06-12T02:48:29.059-07:00Aloha Friday #86

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday hosted by An Island Life. I’ve been finished school for almost two months now so it was a little weird to go back to school. The ceremony itself was a little bit anticlimactic and impersonal. I handed a card to the speaker who read off my name and then I walked across stage and shook some hands. 30 seconds later it was over. I don’t know exactly what I was expecting but I knew I had to go just for the pictures. It was really interesting to see who was graduating with what degrees. You could tell who some of the fashion design graduates were by their style. The theatre graduates made the most noise as they crossed the stage. After the ceremony, my dad brought my girls to the campus. I wasn’t going to make them sit through 2 hours or a boring convocation, more importantly I wasn’t going to make my husband try to keep two kids quiet for two hours.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SjIdSEzL0ZI/AAAAAAAAAKo/0n59nD_BxWc/s320/CIMG1538.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5346367904005476754" />

We can't even get them to sit still for 2 minutes for pictures.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SjIdR2BzYoI/AAAAAAAAAKg/yVMrvUMqbTI/s320/CIMG1536.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5346367900040258178" />

I didn’t look at any of the pictures that were being taken and now I’m so mad at myself for not checking. I knew my flash was turned off and I asked if the person taking the pictures if they were getting good shots. They said they were but once I checked them at home I was so disappointed to see that there were shadows across my eyes in most photos. It was really sunny which isn’t great for photos.

I was feeling pretty good about my dean’s list standing and outstanding achievement designation until they announced the Excellence Award winner. A fellow mother with a GPA over 4.00. I didn’t even know you could do that. She had kids soon after finishing high school and then returned to school when they were a little older. She talked about how she had to find herself first and how it made her really appreciate her education. I tried to do it all at once though. I wasn’t going to let babies stop me from finishing school. I needed to prove that an unplanned pregnancy wasn’t going to ruin my life. So I did it. I’ve spent the last 5 years in school while having 2 babies. I’m glad I did it but I know that I wasn’t able to completely dedicate myself to school or to being a mom. Schoolwork kept me up late and made me a cranky mom sometimes, being a breastfeeding mother made me rush home after every class instead of getting to know fellow students or my teachers. Now I’ve got a piece of parchment in hand and will be trying to figure out what to do with it. I know I’ll go to school again at some point. I love learning, it’s the assignments, papers and exams I could do without. I hope I’ve inspired my girls to go to university one day, they already have the hat.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SjIdS3uP8RI/AAAAAAAAAK4/L0kj4Wi1T-w/s320/CIMG1546.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5346367917674983698" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SjIdSpokgkI/AAAAAAAAAKw/9k3KWBDrs0o/s320/CIMG1540.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5346367913893069378" />Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06983161969233970719noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150179314060105868.post-60450371689716706152009-06-10T02:36:00.000-07:002009-06-10T03:01:42.939-07:00Mostly Wordless Wednesday- A day at the ParkWe had a great day at the park today. I was not secretly looking forward to a few days of alone time. When he came home I was not temporarily distracted while in bed with my husband with thoughts of blogging. I did not wonder, just for a second, if I could blog about what we were doing, because that would be scandalous. I do not let my husband go to bed alone every night so I can stay up and read and blog. I do not spend too much time reading other people’s blogs and run out of time to write my own posts. And since my oldest does not nap any more I do not distract her with tv while her sister naps so I can have alone time.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/Si1NpY0hxeI/AAAAAAAAAJE/wXe8BF2Snuw/s320/CIMG1456.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345013706191390178" />
My husband and I did not go shopping for new bedding for our room and girls rooms. We are having a really hot period right now and it’s almost uncomfortable outside. I hate being overly hot and it tends to make me frustrated. In order to avoid the hottest sun, I try to get the kids outside early in the morning. Usually that tires Sweet Pea out and she takes a nice long nap. It’s still really hot and it even tires me out.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SieI309sAzI/AAAAAAAAAIA/8ohOyJS-ezs/s320/CIMG1224.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343389975589946162" />
I envisioned summer with lots of trips to the park and sitting on a blanket in the grass reading a book while my kids played peacefully. But I’ve discovered that it’s hard to read a book when you are looking up every few seconds to see where the kids have wandered off too. And when I see my youngest trying to climb the play structure, my book is instantly abandoned. I do love getting outside though since my girls have a lot more freedom to roam and it’s generally less cluttered than my house. But I worry about them getting too much sun exposure. I use sunscreen and hats but the hats don’t always stay on.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SieI4ykRHiI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/qvgZclpW5z0/s320/CIMG1401.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343389992126324258" />

And even if they’re not getting sunburnt, the heat can make them grumpy and sick. Like last week when I took the kids to the park. About halfway around the path Sweet Pea started crying. I couldn’t calm her down, not even when I tried to breastfeed her. She rarely ever cries so I think it was the combination of being overtired and hot. I didn’t want to leave her screaming in the stroller so I was forced to walk 15 minutes back to our car holding her while attempting to push the double stroller. Thank goodness, I went with a friend who helped me out. Sweet Pea calmed down once we got home and she breastfed and was able to have a nap in her crib. The experience makes me nervous to stray too far from home though. So much for trips to the beach.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SieL-3eDReI/AAAAAAAAAIg/CVbelaB0a2w/s320/CIMG1387.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343393395056526818" />
It was super hot again today but we turned the sprinkler on to cool down the kids. Sweet Pea avoided the sprinkler at all costs, which is odd because she loves the shower. She was perfectly content to play in the play house. Princess on the other hand loved it. I was worried about the water rinsing off all her sunscreen.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SieI5AMvWOI/AAAAAAAAAIY/sxLKihWcfBc/s320/CIMG1407.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343389995785738466" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SieL_cjS-LI/AAAAAAAAAIo/id5vdWu_sXE/s320/CIMG1415.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343393405010639026" />

This intense heat wave should pass soon and then I’ll be able to go on walks and stay outside longer. In the meantime, I’m very thankful for air conditioning. If only I could have the space of the outdoors with the convenience of a gigantic air conditioner.

What are some of your favourite things to do in the summer? Monday

This is my third time participating in Not Me! Monday! I didn't know that this meme was on holiday during memorial day so I still wrote a Not Me! Post for last Monday. This blog carnival was created by MckMama. It was not planned two days in advance because I am way more organized than that. I am not sad that she is growing up and I certainly am not thinking about getting pregnant so I can experience the baby stage again. I have not been too busy to post pictures of her party yet. (Except for the one below) Our outfits were not both from Walmart, and my top certainly didn't come from the juniors section.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SiO56fbmB3I/AAAAAAAAAGY/5kY6X8vSv4g/s320/CIMG1246.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342317997512329074" />

I have not been eagerly waiting for summer to hurry and get here so I can go outside more with my girls. And now that it is finally here, I am not complaining that it is too hot. I am not already regretting not enjoying my time home with the girls more, now that I know I will have to start working at some point.

I have not been procrastinating about getting a job for over six weeks since I finished school. I do not regret getting a Bachelor of Arts degree and am not wishing I had some marketable skills and job experience. I am not reluctant to job search because I am not having any guilt about leaving my babies (ok toddlers) for 40 hours a week. I am not nervous about what it will be like to work a full 9-5 for the first time in my life. I do not secretly think that a job might be easier than being home all day. My husband did not promise to let me spend my first pay check on a new wardrobe in order to motivate me to look for a job. But only after we move, so I have closet space to put the clothes in.

I am not completely sick of my home and its lack of space. I would never need more than one drawer in the kitchen. I do not care that my youngest is sleeping in our storage room. I have not completely given up on trying to make it look nice while I wait for our new house to be finished. I am not completely blessed to be able to move into a beautiful new house.

And last of all, I did not stay up way too late just to write this post.

I am also not running my first giveaway. Most of you know Beech Nut makes baby food but now they are also making toddler Food. We received several samples of 7 Grain Nibbles, Biter Biscuits and Yoghurt Nibbles.

I want my kids to eat healthy but don’t always have time to prepare fruit or vegetables, especially when I’m running out the door. I love the fact that Beech Nut has a no Junk Promise. Their products are made with whole grains and no preservatives, artificial flavours or colours.

When my daughter started on solid foods, my husband and I were thrilled to have an excuse to buy Mr. Christie’s Arrowroot cookies for <s>ourselves</s> our daughter. We happily shared with her as well, but one day I took the time to actually read the ingredients. I was shocked to find out that sugar was the second ingredient and the next ingredient was shortening. The Beech Nut biter biscuits are made of healthier ingredients. The closest thing to sugar is evaporated cane juice which is a healthier option than white sugar. They are not as sweet as traditional baby cookies but my kids still loved them.

The 7 Grain Nibbles are like miniature rice cakes. They are a bit messy so we don’t take this travelling with us. But I like feeding them to Sweet Pea in her high chair. They keep her entertained while I make dinner and it’s nice to have something other than cheerios to offer her. They come in two flavours: Sweet Potato and Mixed Veggie

We recently took a bag of the Yoghurt Nibbles to the park. Princess loves them and they keep her occupied while we’re strolling around. She was even nice enough to share with her sister. We tried the Berries and Cherries type but i'm sure she would have loved the Strawberry Banana kind too.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SiD6Z6awkhI/AAAAAAAAAFo/vvdezIWl3j4/s320/CIMG1122.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341544481146573330" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/SiD6aA-kM8I/AAAAAAAAAFw/Xc8M2wJiXb8/s320/CIMG1124.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341544482907370434" />

Win Beech Nut Toddler Food
As part of the Bzz Campaign they encourage us to share with other moms. Normally I'd be up for another hour or two, sometimes even three, but I'm exhausted. Sweet Pea's birthday party was tonight which was a lot of fun. I took over 100 pictures and will be sure to post some of the best ones soon.

I also finally got around to writing my resume. I applied for one job and it would be amazing if I would get the first job I applied for. I'm not getting my hopes up too high though. So between baking and decorating dozens of cupcakes, shopping for party supplies and looking for a job I've been staying up late and skipping naps. At this point my body has had enough and is forcing me to go to sleep. zzzzzzz

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/Sh-RBLUckPI/AAAAAAAAAFg/JCdGTbPlPg0/s320/CIMG1316.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341147132489142514" />Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06983161969233970719noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150179314060105868.post-21566821412653392412009-05-29T00:13:00.000-07:002009-05-29T09:55:27.853-07:00Aloha Friday #84

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday hosted by An Island Life. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is a day to take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So on Fridays we take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, we ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. Visit the Island Life Blog for more Aloha Friday Questions

My Question: Comment Etiquette
I love getting comments on my post and try to respond to them the majority of the time (although I'm a little behind right now). I usually respond via e-mail. I wonder if I should reply in the comments section of the post as well. That way everyone else can ready my answer to a reader's question. But at the same time I realize that most people do not subscribe to the comments section. I've seen some people respond to comments by leaving a comment on the other person's blog, but it doesn't always make sense to the other people reading it.

So my questions has two parts: Do you respond to the people who comment on your blogs and in what manner? The second part is how do you prefer to be responded to?

Ps. For those of you with blogger accounts please make sure there is an e-mail address associated with your profile. It makes it much easier to respond to your comments.Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06983161969233970719noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150179314060105868.post-39942136420357230912009-05-27T00:39:00.000-07:002009-05-27T00:58:11.067-07:00Wordless WednesdayIn honour of Sweet Pea's first birthday yesterday.

1 Day Old

1 Month Old

1 Year Old

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/ShzxgeGthyI/AAAAAAAAAFY/fRlw9Y63Yz0/s320/CIMG1195.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340408798293886754" />Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06983161969233970719noreply@blogger.com17tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150179314060105868.post-48202591486864381242009-05-26T16:25:00.000-07:002009-05-26T16:54:33.653-07:00My Perfect VBAC Birth StoryA year ago today I delivered my 2nd perfect baby girl. As I mentioned in my post about waiting for labour my first was born via c-section because she was breach. I had to go into labour on my own because inductions raise the risk of uterine rupture during vaginal births after c-sections.

I went into labour late Sunday night at 40weeks and 4 days. I had some very mild and infrequent contractions that kept me up so I cleaned the whole house. I started timing my contractions at 7am and they were between 5-10 minutes apart but only about 10 seconds long. The hospital told me stay at home until I was having contractions 3-5 minutes apart lasting a minute long. Since the hospital was an hour away we went anyways, but not until I made my husband vaacuum.

We walked around the hospital for an hour and then my husband wanted me to check in. I didn't want to hear that I was barely dilated since the contractions still weren't regular or longer than 15 seconds. But we decided to just check. Once I walked into the admitting room around 12:45, they handed me my gown and I had 3 quick contractions. I laid down and then threw up. They checked me and I was only 2cm. I had 2 more contractions in the next few minutes and during the 2nd one my water broke. They checked me and I was fully dilated! I immediately felt like pushing so they rushed me to a delivery room. After about 20 minutes of pushing my baby was there! Sweet Pea arrived at 1:18pm barely 30 minutes after being admitted.

I did get a 2nd degree tear and used gas while they stitched me up. I was surprised to find out she was 8lbs 11oz since my first had only been 7.5lbs. I'm glad I didn't know how big she was since it might have scared me and hindered my labour.

It was an amazing experience and I'm so glad I didn't follow medical advice and get a repeat c-section. My recovery was so much better. I don't know how I would have been able to take care of my toddler if I had a c-section.

I don't have any pictures of my labour since it was so quick but this picture is 5 minutes after having her.

This picture is the first time Princess met her baby sister. Monday 2

This is my second time participating in Not Me! Monday! You can read my first entry here. This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

This week I did not go on a day date with my husband. We did not talk about how we couldn’t remember the last time we went out for a date during the day. If we had gone out, we wouldn’t have celebrated with a ridiculously expensive lunch. And the lunch would not have included a single bellini that would give me a slight buzz without even finishing it. My husband would not have loved the fact that I wore a halter top and “didn’t look like a mom”.

I did not walk into a new store and get utterly and completely confused just trying to get into the door. It’s hard to explain, but there were exit and entrance doors right beside each other and then each of them had another door to enter/exit the store with a glass divider between the two areas. I did not walk into the exit door then wonder why I couldn’t open the partition to get to the 2nd entrance door. I did not need the help of a kind gentleman to get me into the store. And once in the store, when I couldn’t find either of the items I originally went for, I did not proceed to spend $80 on other random things. That would be crazy.

My youngest daughter’s first birthday is tomorrow. Because it is such momentous occasion I have been thinking about it for weeks. I certainly have not been in complete denial that she is turning one and procrastinated on picking a date for the party. I will not be planning a last-minute party for her. And when we do have the party, I certainly will not be letting her indulge in any cake. She has never in her life had sugar and we wouldn’t start on her birthday. I made a special cake for my oldest daughter out of our applesauce and whole wheat flour and would not slack off on this birthday just because she is the second child.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/ShsTmJMGd9I/AAAAAAAAAFI/YpqmSbz0GfI/s320/CIMG1166.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339883329200486354" />

I did not finally fold two weeks’ worth of the girls’ laundry last Tuesday. There is no way I would have 19 pairs of unmatched socks. And there was not already another two loads of their laundry waiting to be done. But if there were I would not have procrastinated on doing those two loads until today. Who knew little girls came with so much clothing? And because I am so organized with their clothes, I would never leave two big boxes of their too small clothes sitting in our hallway for over three months. These photos are not of my home of course, but I wanted to show what the laundry would look like if I had procrastinated on laundry, which I totally did not do, remember.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 192px; height: 144px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/ShsTlSjLGKI/AAAAAAAAAE4/FBulHX2rLv4/s320/CIMG1086.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339883314533308578" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 192px; height: 144px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DJxb8yXHjBM/ShsTlkf_QuI/AAAAAAAAAFA/_rUpMP18VlA/s320/CIMG1087.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339883319351788258" />

Those are all the things I did not do last week. I was 40 weeks and 4 days pregnant with Sweet Pea, desperately hoping that I would go into labour on my own before a scheduled c-section at 41 weeks. My first was born via c-section because she was breach (Now that I know more about breach babies I wish I had tried different methods to turn her) but I was really hoping to experience childbirth naturally with this one. It was a bit of a struggle to get a doctor to agree to let me have a vaginal birth after a c-section (vbac) but I had found one who agreed to let me have a vbac if it was before 41 weeks. I agreed to the 41 week timeline only because I was sure I would go into labour early since my water had broken 4 days early with my first. At this time last year, I had all but resigned myself to having another c-section and was going in the morning to get bloodwork done for the surgery.

Luckily, I went into labour that night. Come back tomorrow to read my perfect vbac story.

Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06983161969233970719noreply@blogger.com6
