I often wonder if there are any of you left? Since I persist in neglecting you all so much.... what can I really tell you? It's been an awful, and challenging year, and although we are hanging in there, it is pretty hard to keep up with a lot of things.

So, here is the update:

We made it through the Summer, and Dad's birthday, and all the patriotic holidays that hit me straight in the heart. We made it through Thanksgiving and Christmas, with some dear friends around us.

We are generally still sad, but there are good days and tougher ones.

My Mother is doing pretty well. She was a bit sick in December and January, whatever stomach/flu thing going around. It is taking her a lot longer to recover than it used to. She is ok, and doing her normal winter hibernation- she hates to go out in the cold, and I am watching her pretty closely. She is one strong lady.

Keith is still fighting the back issue. There are a lot of positives- he has had 3 lumbar injections, he is off the walker, he is walking - albeit slowly and carefully. He has made it 1 year past the lung operation on 2/5/19 for the spontaneous pneumo-thorax ( collapsed lung) - his 3rd in his life. He is not smoking cigarettes. He has gained weight, much to his chagrin- although he is still shaped much like a pencil with broad shoulders. All of this diagnosis, and treatment has made him unable to work for the past year. I worry, as he is bored, and concerned to try and do things, that may undue any good the treatment has provided. We just celebrated 16 years together, and we both agree, this past year has been the most challenging. We love each other very much.

Me? Well, I'm hanging in there. By a thread some days. Work is going pretty well. I'm still at the hotel. I haven't been doing much if any crafting- my big push was for a show last November with Creekside Creations- where I made a bunch of canvases with chalk couture products, and I had a great day. My friends came out to support me, and I plan on doing it again this year. I feel.... very pressured all the time. The financial burden of the household is on me, and it is a challenge. I started taking Zumba last year, and I'm down 37 pounds. Bad news is, I was a lot heavier than I realized. So for the next 16 weeks I have joined a Fitness challenge, where I commit to going to the gym 3 times a week, and adhering to their meal plan. We will see. I have been reorganizing the house, trying to get rid of unneeded items, and bring in a little extra money. I have been focused on not spending, couponing, and trying to get healthier. I am struggling with the grief sometimes. I make it out to see Dad and Bob once a month. I miss them both everyday. Sometimes , I just cry, for no reason, or every reason. I take a little medication to help me, and I do not like that, but it is necessary.
I would like to start up my old YouTube channel again, and start making things. That always helped me. It's all time and money and discipline, and I have a lot on my plate.

I do have a few promises out there to make some memory books , one for a dear friend who lost her Mother , and I could do one for Dad and another for Bob. It might help.
This grief stuff is for the birds, you just don't know what will help you, until you try.

I try and have a happy memory of Dad everyday. He was such a happy person. I figure it's the least I can do.

I will try and figure out how to do some videos and maybe get back in the swing of things.

I miss you all, and you are thought of often.

Keep well.

Hugs,

Since last we spoke, I have continued to persevere, returning to work, and taking care of Mom and Keith. I have had my 52nd birthday, and I made it through without too many tears. I have ridden a horse, had lunch with friends and family, and had many busy work days.

I also have been taking Zumba classes, and lost 12 pounds..yay!!! I have been trying to keep busy, so far I am succeeding. I miss Dad every single day. I miss Bob every day. Its tough, but with a lot of help and encouragement, I am getting by.

I recently saw an old scrapbooking friend posted a class to attend and make a beautiful chalk board, with words and designs. I attended the class so I could make my Mother something for Mother's Day. I was hooked. It was super easy, so I decided to join as a designer, and I made the kit my birthday gift.

My parents 55th wedding anniversary.

Mom was lamenting that they didn't make 55 years by 43 days. I told her, "You get credit for time served. You made it. "

I was very worried about Mom today, but she stayed busy sewing, and I came home and cooked her a favorite meal- Coconut Shrimp. About 3/4 through the dinner, I said to Mom- "So, tell me about your wedding day..."

And she did. My parents eloped. Mom was in college at West Virginia University. Dad was still in the Navy, and a recruiter working out of Philadelphia. They met in the Summer of 1962,or 1963- while Mom was working as a hostess in Atlantic City, NJ.

Dad told me , once he saw her, he just knew. He said she would change her hairstyle everyday. He was transfixed on her. The courted for a year, by telephone, having a conversation on Sundays.

Then they decided to elope. April 24, 1964 was the day, that they met at a cafe in Morgantown, West Virginia. Mom was all decked out in a pale green suit, and wore her hair with bangs- for the first time ever. Mom had some wedding flowers. Dad ordered the Largest breakfast ever, and proceeded to take a full 30 minutes to eat it. Mom says she was soooo nervous. Mom was 21 years old, and Dad was 33. Finally breakfast is over, and they get in the car, and drive to Maryland.

They stopped in a little town, and went to see the Clerk. This was the days when you could get a license and be married the same day. So, they did. Mom said the courthouse was a lovely brick building, and they had lots of weddings there. She also said the ceremony was really nice. Not the normal, but an actual little ceremony.

After they were married, they drove to Cincinnati, Ohio to supper club, where Leslie Uggams was performing. They had a great meal, and Dad had prearranged a wedding cake to come to the table, and all the servers sang. After, they went to the showroom, and watched Leslie sing.

Mom went back to WVU, and Dad went back to work in Philly, and living in Atlantic City. A month later , when school was over for the year, Dad came and picked up Mom, and moved her to NJ.

I asked how Mom told her father she had married, and she said she wrote him a note. ( Can you believe it? ) and she moved to Atlantic City, NJ in with Dad and my Grandfather- Dad's father.

All was well. Everyone criticized their age difference- 12 years, my Mother's age- 21, and they all said it would never last.

What they didn't know is... my Father was a romantic. and he always introduced Mom as his Bride, or My Patsy. Dad put Mom first ,always, and even though they had little in common, they had each other.

I once asked Dad- What's the secret to a long marriage? He said a few things:

1. You are either a team. or you are not- there is no in between.

2. Always say " I Love You" every day

3. " I give your Mother 30 minutes of my attention every day - whether she wants it or not."

4. My personal favorite- " Don't sweat the small stuff".

5. Being right is not as important as making your partner happy.

I told Mom- you outlasted all of them.

Happy 55th Anniversary Mom and Dad! I love you to the moon and back.

How are we doing?

Tough to say. Sometimes I am ok. I think I really laughed out loud at Keith last night for the first time and I didn't even feel guilty about it. Until today when I remembered that today marks a month without Dad and Bob, and I proceeded to ball my eyes out.

I asked Mom today if she felt we took good care of Dad?, and she replied, "yes, I have no regrets". She also said " I just wish we could have done more for Bob."Me too. Silly, hard headed fool. If only, then I start up the "if only's" and drive myself crazy.

I guess, I am still heart broken. I guess I always will be. I really hate the "new normal" that my life has become without them. Then I stop myself, and say to myself, Dad wouldn't approve of all this sadness, and crying. I'm sorry Pop, I just can't help it. I'm trying, please know that I'm trying, but I miss you.

You know that scene in Forrest Gump- the one where he is by the tree and gulps out - "I miss you Jenny"? well exchange Jenny for Dad, and sometimes Bob, and you get a sense of my condition.

Mom and I had to go to her bank in Vineland, and we went to see Dad at the cemetery. It was the first time for Mom, and my 4th since the dreadful day. I have to tell you, Mom is made of steel. I was so very proud of her, as I am everyday. To see her trudge through this rough time, it sounds strange but, she is inspiring. She does show her emotions, but it's the way she shows them, she is not the sloppy mess that I am, that's for sure. Just amazingly classy, and I see the love she has for Dad, pouring out of her.

Mom just had her birthday, her 77th on April 9. She had a really good day, she said. I was of course worried to bits about her. Its hard to believe that Mom is now 77. The difference in my parents ages never showed until recently. Mom is amazing, and doing well. Far better than I am.

Keith finally got the sit down MRI, and we are awaiting results. One step closer to a diagnosis, I pray non surgical solution. I think it's a load off his mind, to at least have been able to complete the test.

I'm trying to catch up at work, that seems to be a never ending more and more piled upon to be accomplished. I'm distracted, and short tempered, and I have no good excuse. I'm being irritated by everything that is no one's fault. Nothing holds my attention for very long. Today I was able to get through to the Navy, and get Mom's benefits on their way. I feel like I only get one victory per day, as I attempted to call Social Security too for her, and the wait time was 45 minutes. I had to bail.

Once we returned home, I shuffled through dinner, made good on my promise to post pictures of the Car- Bob's Car for sale, and to go through my $5 jewelry and post 10 items. Now I'm out of crap to do for the day, and that's when the sadness sets in. Especially today.

So, I turn to this blog, to let it all out.

I really can't believe it's been a month. I miss them so much.

Thanks for reading.

I guess I am trying to work through my grief, in a hundred different ways. I truly have tried many things, but I am learning that the only true healer is time.

Just to give you a quick update, the outpouring of condolences from my friends, co workers and our new neighborhood, even down to the quickest text I have received, are all helping. I started going to church, I am seeing a grief counselor, and I went back to work. I still have little patience, especially for bs, that I have deemed most things, unfortunately. I am trying to pace myself, and allow for some time, and peace and patience to find me. I am going to attempt to set some goals, as I seem to feel better when I am busy. First one is to start formally exercising, so a zumba class has my name on it this Monday night. Next goal, is to go and take a trail ride on horseback for my birthday next month. I am thinking about a lot of things, like going back to school, or getting back into my art, and trying to write on this blog more. I think if I could get through one day without crying, it would be a start. All things in due time.

So, what about Bob? I thought I should tell you about him, since I was privileged to be a friend of his for about 25 plus years. I also have some things to work out, about his passing, and how I am dealing with it.

Robert H. Jones, Jr was a friend to Keith since they were about 13 years old. Ironically, Keith's Father actually dated Bob's Mother at one stage. It was the Seventies. The guys met during a snowball fight at Bob's Aunt's home , on Maple Ave in Linwood, NJ. Keith says he clobbered Bob with a snowball right in the chest, and from then on, they were peas and carrots. The relationship between their parents never worked out, but a lifelong friendship blossomed.

The guys had a lot of similar interests, music, chess, books, video games, billiards, booze- on more than one occasion, and a language all their own, peppered with a scaling sense of humor that was shared, and a lot of laughter. I don't remember many disagreements, although I am certain there were some. Each took the typical "male" way of dealing with things, and never really talked about it with the other. I think in some ways that may have been a detriment to the other, but it's how they handled things.

I was fortunate that they accepted me as their third wheel and never made me feel like it. We all three are only children. We always said we were the siblings we never had. In Keith I got a husband, and in Bob I got a brother. As a matter of fact, Bob always called me "Sis". If I'm being honest, I used to think he said that when he was trying to butter me up. Now I think of it as a fond memory, and I am glad he thought of me that way.

Keith and I lived in Linwood, NJ for about 11 years together. Keith had lived there all his life, and Bob lived a short few blocks away. We had many happy days and evenings shooting pool, listening to music, talking until all hours, and most likely drinking too much. Bob sure could wear out a subject of the latest love interest after he had a few drinks. We were happy, and we got to spend a lot of time together. Schedules were decent- all of us worked day shift for the most part , and I got to play hostess a lot, even if it was just a basic dinner. I really liked cooking for the guys, and if they liked it, it was even better. They were always gracious about my kitchen conquests, and I failed more than once. It was a happy time. We made our own little family, that we got to choose.

Personally, I always worried about Bob's health, even back then. Bob had A-fib, a bad back due to 30 years of valet parking, and I would guess a lot of other un-diagnosed issues. After Hurricane Sandy, in 2012, I recall Bob's Mother Kathy, became ill. She had a hernia repair operation that never really healed. It turned into several infections, and mental issues. Bob became her caregiver, and he really tried to take care of her, and maintain a job, with very little financial support. In Bob's life, it had always been the two of them against the world. Bob's parents had divorced when he was young, and Bob had no relationship with his Father, that I ever heard him speak of. Kathy and Bob also had their own language. one that sometimes, Bob did not understand. Unfortunately, even through Bob's best efforts, Kathy died on March 11, 2015. Bob never recovered from the loss of his Mother. He did have happy moments, and holidays, but truly, the Bob of old was gone. He was lost in grief that at times was all consuming. Shortly after Kathy passed away, the Sheriff came for her home, and Bob lost his job. It was a terrible year for him. I was dealing with Dad's diagnosis of Congestive Heart Failure, and feverishly looking for a home for all of us. Bob came to live with Keith and I in mid summer 2015. I found the house on Hartford Drive in October of that year, and we all moved in together.

I recall that Christmas, we all took a breath. It had been arduous work combining three households for a month or more, and we all were looking forward to a nice holiday. A nice holiday was enjoyed, and we all settled into life in the house. Dad's health improved, Bob started working at my hotel in Valet, Keith began working at Harbor Freight, and Mom was sewing away. Things were looking up. Bob's schedule was overnights 12a-8a, so he slept during the day.

There were a set of setbacks that occurred for Bob, but I do think the underlying cause for all of it was Bob's grief over his Mom's death. Adding to the grief was , an opposite schedule, not a lot of sleep, and Bob found comfort in escaping from all of us, by retreating to his room, and most likely drinking more than he should have. Bob used to drive his Mother's truck, and he never turned it over into his name. One day he was pulled over, something to do with the registration expired, and the truck was impounded. Bob did not have the funds to go get the truck out of impound, so he never dealt with it, and he began sharing Keith's car. We believed it would be short term, and it never really was. We moved along, and as the holidays and anniversaries rolled by, Bob seemed to become more somber. I used to think he was working through the loss of his Mom, but now in hindsight, I don't ever think he accepted it.

There were happy times, mostly when I demanded it. I am a big holiday person, and I wanted Bob to join in with the family on Thanksgiving and Christmas and birthdays, including his own. He sheepishly did so, but mostly because he did not want to disappoint me. Throughout this time, Bob had a few bouts of Afib, where I pleaded with him to go to a doctor, and I was always rebuffed. He also incurred horrible swelling in his leg, terrible back and hip pain, and the normal winter colds. Bob also fell due to disorientation a few times. He wasn't healthy. He had lost weight, and was not eating well, even though it was offered. It was during this time that I now believe he amped up the drinking, all of which he did behind my back.

In 2017, the owner of the Hartford house, approached me to purchase it. I tried , and tried but I could never get the numbers to work. It was a beautiful home, but much too expensive for me to carry long term. Once I realized it was not going to work out, I searched and found the home we now live in, much more affordable, and in a better, more welcoming neighborhood. I made settlement in October 2018, and we began moving once again. Bob, got a huge upgrade of accommodations with the move. He had a private stairwell to his large, apartment style room, with a private bath, and a great closet. At this stage, he is still working at the Hotel, Mom and Dad are doing well, Keith is working, and we all just wanted to relax and have a nice Thanksgiving.

We did. There were boxes everywhere , but we did not care. We had a place that we owned. Everyone was doing ok. Then Dad got sick with a UTI on 12/1/18, and landed in the hospital for a week. Bob seemed to have caught a cold, that brought a hacking cough with it. He coughed all day and all night. I felt terrible for him. I begged him to go to a doctor, and once again he declined. He never wanted to impose on anyone, and compromised his health because of his hard head. I suppose, he thought it would pass. Dad was in the hospital until 12/7/18. We managed to get Dad home, and started up the home care. Because Bob worked overnights, he was available to help keep an eye on Dad for me while Keith and I worked. I was so grateful for it. In hindsight, I wonder if I told him that enough.

Christmas comes, Dad is doing better, Bob is a little better, still coughing, but he was really happy. He was so happy, he made a big point of telling me that it was the best Christmas he had enjoyed in years.

Also in December, the engine in the car they were sharing, died. We made the decision to repair it with a new engine, and we also bought a jeep for Keith. Now we were a 3 car family.

January came, and the Valet company at the hotel changed vendors. Bob unfortunately was not rolled into the new company. So, he became unemployed. I needed more help with support as Keith began his back issue with excruciating pain down his leg, and shortly thereafter had a collapsed lung. Keith wound up having surgery in February, and is still dealing with the leg pain to this very day. Bob was a key person, in giving me the ability to go to the hospital, or rehab hospital with Keith , as he was watching Mom and Dad for me. By the way, he is still coughing, and he does not look good. I am pleading daily for him to see a doctor. Bob is giving me every excuse in the book, and I am becoming frustrated, and so is Keith. It is now February, and Keith has made it out of the hospital following his lung surgery, and completed Rehab and is doing very well considering the leg pain has not let up. I recall the first thing Keith said to Bob once he was home, was " When are we going to get you well?" Bob just gave another excuse, and basically heard the concern, but did not act on it.

While Keith was in the hospital, I would have a nightly chat with Bob to bring him up to date on Keith's progress or find out about Mom and Dad's status. We had the aides and nurses coming for Dad at this point, and Dad was doing ok. Even as bad as Bob must have been feeling, he always showed great concern for Keith, and me and my parents. He reminded Mom daily about Dad's afternoon pills, and looked in on everyone. He even reminded me to be sure to take care of my health, which prompted me to make a doctor appointment for a physical. We had several talks throughout this time about Dementia, and the effect it was taking on Dad. Bob shared a lot of details about his care giving to his Mother, and was very encouraging to me. I valued these talks a lot, as Bob was not much of a talker usually, and he was fiercely private. He even spoke at length to my Mother, about his experiences, when she was struggling to understand all that was happening to Dad. I know that must have been hard for him, as our Mothers shared the same hobby of quilting. Bob gave Mom a few of his Mother's possessions for Christmas- a set of stacked Shaker style wooden boxes- that my Mother cherishes. I often thought it must have been hard for Bob, in his grief, to be around my Mom, as there were a lot of similarities between Kathy and her. He never showed it to me, if he felt it.

I wish I could say, the story of my dear brother Bob Jones, has a great ending, but in the end, his stubbornness to take care of himself, or take anyone's advice to do so, got the best of him. Bob continued to cough until March 12, 2019 when he had a heart attack, and died in our home. He was 55 years old. I feel the worst for Keith. You can say Bob made his choices, but to watch your friend of 40 years perish in front of you, has got to be traumatic. Keith seems to be coping well, and so does Mom. I have found solace in playing some of Bob's favorite music, and thinking about the happy times back in Linwood, when Bob was healthy, and happy. I remember if he turned up in his cowboy boots, with his pool cue in his hand, it was certain to be a good night. I prefer to remember his kind blue eyes, and quick wit, that made me laugh until I cried.

I have been concerned, that in my overwhelming grief for my Dad, that somehow Bob would be lost in the sea of tears. After his service this past Wednesday evening, we had his repast back at our house, with his cousins and Aunt. It helped to hear the funny stories, and share the smiles of recalling happy times. Bobby, you will always be the brother I never had and always wanted. I miss you, and our chats. I miss reminding you to eat something, and I will always be grateful to you for the time you shared with me and my family, and your loyal friendship to Keith.

I hope you are at peace. I hope you are reunited with your Mom, and that you both are laughing at an inside joke. I miss you, and all your quirks that drove me nuts before. I am so glad that you were in my life, and you always will be.

Being the daughter of a printer, I thought I should try.

Let me catch you up.

Since last we spoke, we bought a home, moved into it. I am still caregiver to Dad. Keith underwent some medical issues. Collapsed lung, had surgery, and a pinched nerve in his back that gives him unbearable nerve pain. He can’t really walk and we are still dealing with it.

Our longtime friend Robert Jones, has lived with us since 2012. I still work at the hotel. Mom is sewing and dreaming of her future gardens. Dad is ok, very happy to be with us, but having some aging problems- he is 88 years old.

Back in December of 2018 Dad got a UTI, and had a hospital stay. His blood pressure was bottoming out too. We got him through it, got rehabilitation therapists to come to the house, and he was doing pretty well. In January , Keith started feeling the back pain, and we began the pursuit of Doctor visits to find a solution. In February, or towards the end of January rather, we decided to put Dad under hospice care, in order to have a daily aide come to help with bathing, and the relentless diaper changes. At this stage, Dad had started having a few dementia days, where he was fighting me caring for him. And frankly, I needed the help.
Meanwhile, Bob is coughing for months on end. And due to a transition at the hotel of a new valet company, he lost his job. Bob wound up being the extra eyes I needed on my parents after the aides left, and Keith was hospitalized for a collapsed lung or leg pain.

Clearly, I have a ton going on at this stage, but surprisingly, it was all working well with time and attention , and everyone was getting the care they needed- except Bob. I pleaded with Bob daily to go to a doctor and there was always an excuse.

Then March 12 came, and my world was changed forever.

I was at work, when I received a text message that Bob had fallen, and the paramedics were called and it did not look good. I went to drive home, and when I arrived , Bob had died. Then within minutes of Bob passing, Dad left us peacefully in his sleep.

I had been preparing to lose Dad, he was 88 years old, but never would I have guessed that he would go that day. I can only think that he had to lead Bob up to heaven. Bob was 55.

This week has been surreal, shattering and heartbreaking in every sense of the word. I’m bereft, and emotional and trying to come to acceptance of my circumstances. We just buried Dad yesterday, and I am moved by the outpouring of love from our friends . I feel broken, cursed , grateful and honored to have had the best Dad in the world.

I don’t want to forget the signs he sent me this week. So I thought I would write them and perhaps this may help me remember.

So I will list them while they are fresh in my mind and tell you about them, one by one.
1. The baby
2. The jacket
3. The flag
4. The hawk

The baby-

Dad always blew me a kiss as I was heading out to work, or up to bed. On Thursday, following our meeting with the funeral director, and writing Dads obituary, I had to run a few errands. The medical equipment folks came and picked up Dads things, and I went into his room and frankly, balled my eyes out. I felt I had to keep moving, so I set out to get myself together.

Our neighbor has a 1 1/2 year old baby named Olivia. As I went to my car, for some reason, I was pulled across the street to see the baby as her Mother was putting her in the car. I was feeling so low, and just wanted to feel something good. As I visited with the Baby, she reached for me, and I got to hold her. Then she blew me a kiss. And I learned this was something she was just learning. I thanked her mother for the visit, and felt like I might be able to breathe for a little while.
I went out to the uniform store and bought gloves and a tie for Dad for his uniform, and then I drove to work in Atlantic City. As I had to retrieve the picture from above my desk. As I was driving, I started talking to Dad through tears, telling him I was in his town, and I needed him to send me a sign that he was ok.
I realized it later that night as I was telling Mother about the time I had spent with Baby Olivia. The kiss was the sign.

2. The jacket—
Dad always wore a double breasted Burberry navy blue jacket with gold buttons to every big event. I was trying to figure out what to wear to his funeral, as I was certain whatever I chose I might never wear again. For some strange reason, Dads jacket popped into my mind. I went to his closet, found it, and put it on . And it fit . As I was going through the pockets, I found a program from a prior funeral Dad had attended for a dear friend. The funeral home was the same as I had chosen for Dad. I also found his Navy zippo and a chocolate bar from another friends wedding. My Dad had the worlds largest sweet tooth , so I felt like he was saving it for later.

3. The flag—
As I said earlier, we moved into a new home back in October. On Thursday the landscaper contacted me wanting to do something to assist me or tribute to my Dad. There wasn’t enough time for plants, and all of a sudden the thought of a flag popped into my head. I shared it with the landscaper- and he agreed. As I was driving to go purchase it- a huge American flag came into view.

4. The hawk--

After my Dads military services concluded yesterday, we returned to the house, and I was outside with a friend visiting from New York. I look above the house and a hawk with a three foot wingspan at least is floating on a breeze and circling the house, and circling the the house. I thought- if it were an eagle it would be perfect. My friend said, as I was thinking it, " You know who that is, right?" I said yep. I have never seen that hawk before or since, as I write this it is now Sunday.

I was worried about today, in the quiet spaces, I spent some time alone to reflect, and we heard from Many old friends. It showed me how short life is, how rare my relationship with Dad is, and I am learning so much about families and people in general. I will write a separate blog about the services for Dad, because it was quite a send off.

Now, Keith, Mom and I are patiently awaiting the coroners report on dear Bob, and waiting to see if he will be released to his family soon. As we progress through this horrible week, with our broken hearts, we are trying to take comfort in each other, and our friends.

I am currently left with a gaping whole in my heart, never to be filled, and a flood of uncontrollable tears that consume me out of nowhere about every hour or so.

There are many Thank you's to say, and cards to send. I am certain to attempt to get to them this week, but I am going easy on myself, and allowing myself the time I need. I took this week off from work, and I hope to be able to at least get a little sleep.

Dad is still sending me signs- I see them everywhere. We spoke the same language, and a lot of people have recently told me how much I favor Dad in personality, and that is the ultimate compliment.

Look for the signs, tell your friends, and family you love them, send the text, pick up the phone, and stay in contact. I know if Bob had not tried to escape from the world, I would be writing a much different story.

It seems I have abandoned this blog since April 2016!!! Shame on me!!! What can I tell you, I have been overwhelmingly busy.

I should take a minute to reflect on what has occurred since then.... Well, I am still working at the hotel, I am still caring for my parents, Dad is now 87, and says hello every Saturday via my Facebook pictures, Mom is now 75, still in the wheelchair unfortunately, but sewing up a storm and trying to garden where she can.

Keith has been working for Harbor Freight for about a year and a half. He seems to like it, and wishes they would give him more hours.

I still try and papercraft where I can. I did not get the Christmas cards completed this year. Just over scheduled myself- like normal- and something had to give.

In March I joined LulaRoe as a retailer, and had some mild success. I have taken a break from my sales, since summer because my work life becomes hectic. Along the way, the company made some changes that were difficult for me to weather. I am still active with Lularoe, but not Actively selling currently. I want to keep the door open, as I put a lot of time, energy and $ into it, but currently, I'm not feeling it. I still love the clothes, and wear them daily, I just need a break, from everything really.

That is the feeling of 2017 for me- exhaustion. We had the best revenue year ever at the hotel, the daily needs of my family don't seem to slow down, and well... I turned 50 this year. It just takes more energy for me to accomplish everything. I feel genuinely blessed every day, for all of the things I have in my life, my family, friends, work I enjoy, and I also feel really tired, a lot.

So as I was organizing and cleaning the house today, I was thinking about how I can make 2018 a better year for me and my family. I need to reduce stress, my doctor says, and I have made a lot of positive changes in 2017- I am now dairy free for 3 months- and there have been great benefits in how I feel. I also started acupuncture treatments, for stress and pain management. It's all helping, but I need to dig out the root of the problem to have a more healthful year. For me, that is stress, and the #1 culprit is financial stress. With a brand new year facing me, I decided to face everything and rise, instead of Flee everything and run, which I have been too quick to do.

I have been trying to buy the house we rent since summer. It seems to be one setback after another, and none of it moves very fast. I expect to complete the transaction in January, but it will take some lifestyle adjustments to be able to enjoy this major milestone.

So- today , I made a budget. I have set up my coupon organization, and I have set some goals. There are few places in my budget where I can actually save money. Groceries is one place for sure. I went back and watched a lot of couponers, housewife financial planners, and such on YouTube. I came up with a basic plan, and then cleaned the house. I always like to start things fresh. Plus today it is snowing in NJ, so I took advantage of being housebound.

My goal is to save $200 in January, I figure, I have to start somewhere. My first project will be to make a coupon envelope to take to the stores with me. I plan on doing this over on Ustream at about 4pm EST. I used to love to craft online with all of you. So if you are interested in my 2018 New Year , New Me journey, I promise I will attempt to detail it on the blog, and hopefully have a stamping project or two along the way.

Happy New Year!

Hugs,

The feedback I have received from the Address Tag swap, has been great! I am so happy that everyone enjoyed receiving their tags. If I could ask a favor? If you have received your tags, please put a comment on the address tag post here on my blog. Just trying to keep up on who has received so far.

Over the weekend, we were treated to a Ustream from the lovely Julia, sharing her Secret Sister Swap box from Robin. So many beautiful things, Robin did an awesome job! We all were chatting as we do, and Julia mentioned it would be fun to have a card kit swap. So, we created a facebook group for just that.
It is a secret group, so if you want to be in the swap, it is a monthly commitment until the end of the year. You have to be invited to the group. We are taking signups until 4/15/16. Just let Julia or I know and we will add you.

Here are the basics:

A2 size card, you make one kit per participant each month. We recommend you make a card design for the theme of the month, take a picture of it, and upload it to your gallery on the group. This way when the swappers receive your card kit, they can have a point of reference for what you designed.

Card Kits need to be mailed to me to be received by the end of each month. I will swap them out and mail back to be received by the 15th of the following month.

If your card design, contains die cuts, you should include them in the kit. Likewise for stamped images. Basically, the recipient, should only need a basic class kit to complete, i.e. paper trimmer, ruler, adhesive, scissors, foam dots etc.

If you are international, please join us! I will send you a PayPal invoice for your postage on a monthly basis. Domestic folks, please include the self addressed Stamped Envelope with your monthly submission. Postage should be the same amount to return to you plus $1.00.

Here is my address:

Laurel DeViney
Thank you for signing up for the Address Tag Swap!

Your details should be on the tag and include: Name, Mailing Address, Screen Name, Birthday ( Month , Day) at a minimum, but you may also want to include blog address, etc. If you did not comment on this post, then you are not in the swap. Happy Swapping!!!!
- Laurel

Hello Friends,
What a difference a few months makes! I was just reading my last post, and since that time, I have unpacked, and set up my new studio, moved my entire family into the new house, and weathered the holidays. Right now, as I type Blizzard Jonas, has left about 14" of snow outside my front door.

It is all a blessing. We are warm , safe and dry, well fed, and together. I cannot ask for any thing more.

So , I managed to watch a few streams lately, and many people seem to be address collecting, or updating their address books.Whilst unpacking, I found the rolodex swap cards from a few years ago. I personally, was looking for an easier way to keep track of everyone's details, including their birthdays. So , I came up with an idea. Why not have everyone create a tag, complete with their details, and send it in as a swap. Today on Ustream we sorted out the details and the Address Tag swap was born. Here are the particulars:

If you want to sign up, please do so by leaving a comment on this post, and ALSO please send me an e-mail: ldeviney@comcast.net. There are many new folks in the group and I may not have your contact info.
I will take sign -ups until 2/1/16. If you would like to participate, here are the ground rules:

1. I am not your referee. If you do not want someone who signs up for the swap to have your contact details, than you must bow out of the swap. I do not want to be put in a position where anyone is uncomfortable.
2. If you sign up, and then flake, I will not send you any swaps. If you send in, you will receive.
3. Please create a #8 size tag. This is the same tag on the Tim Holtz tag die. The dimensions are 3"w x 6"tall. The tag does have a hole centered at the top. This will become important, because we intend to create rings of tags with our crafty friends details. If you need tags, please let me know, and I am glad to cut them for you out of cardstock. Postage is up to you.
4. Once we get the total number of sign ups, I will post here how many tags to make. I recommend keeping the tag as flat as possible, and enclose your details on the back, is an option. In a concise manner, ( computer text is recommended) Please include the following information at a minimum:
Name, Screen Name, Mailing Address, Email Address, Birthday- Day and Month only, and your name or screen name on any social media sites you are on.

You are welcome to include any other information you choose, re: blog address, Craft related Sales sites, Phone numbers, or anything else. Just remember, you are willfully releasing that information to the group.

You will have until 3/1/16 to get the swap in to me. I will swap them out, and distribute back to you within a few days. You need to include the following in your package to me: 1. A SASE- A Self Addressed Stamped Envelope. 2. Your completed Tags. Please place enough postage on your SASE to cover the postage back to you. Whatever it cost you to mail it to me, it should be the same going back to you. International folks, I will send you a PayPal invoice for the postage, once I have completed the swap. The size of the SASE will be determined by how many participants we have. If it gets to large, I may split us up into groups and do 2 rounds. The original thought was the tags could fit in a #10 business envelope, but if interest is high, this may turn into a 6x9 manila.

On a few upcoming Ustream shows I will be working on the covers for our address tag rings. You are welcome to follow along, or create something else to place them on. Most folks in the discussion, were thinking of placing them on binder rings, and they should be made of cardstock. You can lightly back them if you want, but to keep the weight down, cardstock is best.

Its been a few months, I know. Been busy packing! and now I am happy to say we are in our new home.

We managed to get the old house packed up. It was a literal game of beat the clock, we made it through. POD was moved to new home last week, and today with some help of some dear friends, we managed to clear the garage, and unload the POD.

My parents move in this weekend. So we are in the home stretch.
We found a beautiful home, large enough for all of us

. A wonderful Thanksgiving was had by all. We are looking forward to a small family Christmas, lots of togetherness, and a few gifts. but it is all about being together

.
I never thought it would happen, and it is so hard but we are getting there.

I hope all of your dreams come true this holiday season.
Hugs,

It has been a long Summer, and a lot of turmoil in my life. I am happy to report perseverance pays off! If you follow my blog, than you already know of my family struggles. Glad to say, Dad's health is pretty good. He still requires monitoring and a lot of assistance, but the good days out weigh the bad ones lately. :)

I don't know when I decided to pursue a potential rental home for the entire family, but I am sure glad I did. I have been researching the real estate listings for purchase or rental for about 3 years. As I still have some financial burden to clear up, and the the new pressures of my parents lease ending 12/31/15, I guess a light bulb went off. I was extremely fortunate to find a 5 bedroom, 4 bath home, with a first floor bedroom and full bathroom ( My Mom requires this), on the third day it was listed for rent. Keith and I got in to see it, and immediately knew this would suit everyone with very few changes. We wrangled the family and wound up getting my Mom in to see it, and she was as impressed.
I filled out the application on the spot. About a week later, I got to meet the owner. He is a wonderful family oriented gentleman, who I feel really cares. This week I pay the deposits, and it will be available 11/1/15 for us to move in.

I opted to rent for a few reasons. Primarily I may not need a house so large in five years. With careful planning, I should be able to clear my financial burdens, and be in a better position to purchase a smaller home, when the time comes. The other reason, is to attempt to purchase a home of this size now, may make it more difficult to sell in the future, and certainly cost more than I want to spend at present.

So now the panic sets in, and all of the work. I have begun packing up my craft room, and I am so happy I will have one in the new place. I am taking all suggestions for packing up supplies and designing organized spaces! The new room is off the Master bedroom, sort of an office space that is 18 x 12.

The new place has a fabulous basement as well, Keith is planning to put up his pool table and make a great men's den. We plan on converting the formal living room to my Mother's sewing room.

There is a nice sized room with a full bathroom adjoined for Bob, and we plan on taking the other 2 bedrooms and making my father his own room, and a guest room/office in the other.

Now it is time to pack up all of the things from our house, and get ready to shift it over. Such a task! I keep thinking positively, and I know that we can do it!

Thank you to all who have given me support and friendship over this difficult time!

I can see blue skies and I am so grateful for everything and everyone in my life right now!

Hugs,
I try to keep this blog clear of problems, and art focused, but my life dictates differently lately, so I thought I would try and answer all the questions I have been getting recently regarding family life. I saw my friend Paula Journal Artista put it all out there recently, so I thought a little honesty might help.

As many of you know, my Dad took very ill in April. He has congestive heart failure, needs a valve replacement, and has been deemed too high risk to undergo a surgery. He also was told he does not have long to live. As he is always the underdog who beats the odds when it comes to health care, we have been providing him support care, with daily visits, chores, medication monitoring etc. He has good days and bad days. Days where he remembers everything, and days where he does not know what day it is. It is a difficult struggle, and I have become his parent which is even more difficult to bear. My Mom is still fighting her diabetes, and remains in a wheelchair. This limits her ability to help out with Dad. Add to that the fact that they no longer drive, and have been married 51 years, and you get the picture. They get no break from each other, as Dad needs monitoring all the time.
My job is as stressful as ever. Summer at the shore is a time where millions of dollar are at stake, literally, so I am a working fiend May-Sept. A typical day is 12 hours, and most of it on my feet, which hurt a lot most of the time.

My darling Keith, still struggles to find work, as in our area with casinos closing, and foreclosure rates skyrocketing, there is no work. I am grateful he helps out with my parents.
We have a friend, who recently lost his mother, as well as her home where he lived , who has moved in with us. He also was let go from his job not long after he buried his mother, and work is not available.
Depression is always knocking at my door, but I just don't have time to entertain it. I am the only source of income for for my family aside from. my parents retirement income which does not go far enough.
I have long felt the solution would be to buy a bigger home, move my parents into it with all of us. I even found the perfect place. Then I started down the road to finance. So very difficult, as when you have been carrying others, for literal years, you tend to amass some debt.
Selling our current house is not an option, as we are in foreclosure. Not in my name, but in Keith's.
I have called in every avenue I can to be able to pay off my debt, and then I am told I can become financed. It just is not enough money. I am selling off my art supplies, (see former post) at a deep discount, and I managed to raise $50.
It is a daunting, depressing task.
I feel as though , I am playing beat the clock with my father's health, and the answer is to buy a home where we can all be together, and he can be comfortable.
I just want to do this one thing for them, and there are road blocks at every turn.
I have spoken to many professionals, in finance, and there just are no easy answers. So this is my truth, and what I contend with on a daily basis. This is why I have vanished from all of my art work, and online friends.

If you would like to help I set up a Go Fund Me campaign:gofundme.com/zqayt7y

I cannot thank you all enough.
Well, my life is changing. I don't want to get into too many details, but suffice it to say, we are moving in the near future. My goal is to get a place large enough, to bring my parents in to live with us, due the care they require. We also have a friend who has been through a tough time with loss of family, moving in with us.

It is a difficult time overall. I was clearing out my old studio, and felt like I wanted to sell off what I could, and donate a lot of older product. I have tons of older style scrapbook papers, cardstock, embellishments, and products that need good homes. I do not have the time to photograph it all and try and sell it so, I thought Mystery boxes would be the way to go.

Medium size , flat rate boxes packed with older papers, punches, cardstock, stamps, and what not, for the bargain price of $25 including shipping , domestic. If international will pay shipping, I am happy to send your way too. I have a price of $40 for international, its just an estimate to cover shipping.

This is older stock, some used, some new, all treasured, that I need to get cleared out. I also need to establish a fund for a new big house.

If you are interested, please leave a comment on this post, and use the PayPal button below.

I will be shipping boxes out all this week.
Every time I access my blog as of late, I am just shocked by how I neglect it! My last post was in November! I have been doing an awful lot since then! Made it through the holidays, my parents moved at long last!
It is just now, I feel I can dedicate a little time to crafting, and creating and share with all of you, a few of the ideas I have been working on.

I am happy to say I joined Fun Stampers Journey back in November. Since then, I have had the privilege to have four other like minded ladies, join the Journey, and we have begun creating a group of Journey coaches named the Awesome Blossoms Crew, or ABC's for short. Even though we are starting out small, we are mighty! Great gals, wonderful inspiration, and wonderful cards and art which we are sharing, in the hopes that we can have many other stampers join our Team, and Enjoy the Journey as well.
We have created a Facebook group exclusive to the team, for sharing of ideas, photos and best practices. This is just the beginning, and if you are interested, the Founding coaches offer is still available until 500 coaches sign up. It is a great deal! For $150 plus shipping and tax you receive a great package!

Everything you see in the picture! Which includes:

Journey Grand Machine, and all associated plates

a rolling tote, a shoulder tote

Pennants Die set and Coordinating Banner Party Stamp Set

Greet and Shout Stamp Set

Birthday Sketch Stamp Set

Damask Print ATS Stamp

4 Colors of True Color Fusion Ink

Cardstock packs in Black, white and mixed color

Journey Twine

Journey Sparkle dust

Journey Glaze

Journey Stamp Cleaner

Sweet Berry Gingham Ribbon

Box of Catalogs

Back office Access for easy order placing, and the latest information.

It is a terrific value, considering the Journey Grand Machine retails for $150.00!

The best part is that sales minimums are low... $150/ per quarter. Even if you are not interested as a business, it is easy to stay active by placing your own orders, with such a low sales minimum. The company is just beginning as well, so if a career path is something you desire, you are in on the ground floor.

Free exclusive step by step videos for club members only

Free catalogs/seasonal catalogs

Earn Frequent Stamper awards for purchases

Club commitment is 6 months, and requires a $35 minimum purchase monthly. After completing your six month commitment, you may continue on a month to month basis. This club runs from March 2015-August 015. I will send club members a link to my online store with a suggested product list for the projects of the month, at the start of the month. Orders need to be placed between the 1st and 15th of the month. Projects will be three cards and a dimensional object every month, plus an occasional bonus project. If you spend $50 before shipping and tax, you qualify for the month's promotion. I only ask that you do not share exclusive club content .

I hope you will consider joining Stamp with Laurel. I look forward to sharing my creations with you. If you would like to join, please send an e-mail to : ldeviney@comcast.net, and kindly list Stamp with Laurel Club in the subject line.
I have been having a lot of fun recently, making my cards everyday. You can follow along on Instagram #todayscard. Getting back into card making, made me consider my old Stampin Up! demonstrator status, and how much I truly enjoyed it. Since there are many changes coming up for me in the new year, I have decided to leave the shop at Teaberry, it has been three fun years, but the cost is out weighing the benefit, I thought I might need a little crafty something to occupy my time.

I recently attended a Scrapbook Expo in Somerset, NJ. Inside the program was an advertisement for a company called Fun Stampers Journey. I did not pay too much attention at the time, but pursued some research. I learned several great things about this company.

1. They are partnering with Spellbinders, and have many wafer thin nesting and shape cutting dies.
2. Their stamps are red rubber cling, manufactured by my favorite company...Stampers Anonymous.
3. They offer Fusion ink, which is a blend between dye ink and pigment ink. Quick drying, and vibrant colors.
4. They have many other things, that I like very much, such as gingham ribbon, and glitter.
5. They are a new company, with a fabulous offer for their Founding Coaches (first 500 to sign up). The starter kit contains a Journey Grand Die Cut machine, similar to a Spellbinders Grand Calibur machine, and 2 totes, 1 on wheels, 1 shoulder bag, and 4 inks, paper, stamps, tape dies... it is very generous.

6. They are not so hung up on virtual presence, certainly promote the company, but if you happen to use another product than theirs, it's not the end of the world. They even encourage a virtual party.
7. Prices are lower for purchase than Stampin Up!
8. Their quarterly sales minimums are half of what the requirement is with Stampin Up! Only $150/sales per quarter, as opposed to $300.
9. With all this quality, they are growing rapidly. A good ground floor opportunity for someone like me.
10. They provide a free replicated website for your orders, and an easy back office.

After a lot of thought, I decided to give it a try. I signed up last week, and I am Coach #336. I encourage you to take a look at their catalog, and consider the offer for Founding Coaches.

http://www.funstampersjourney.com/coaches

I can't wait for my kit to arrive, and to start sharing my journey with you. I think this will be a lot of fun and creativity. As such I am going to start labeling posts on my blog relating to Fun Stampers Journey
-FSJ and the title. I will do a similar thing with my YouTube videos. Also I will be hosting some virtual workshops on my Ustream channel. Right now the company only ships in the USA. Canada is on tap soon. I hope you will join me!

Thank you for reading and your support!
Where have you been?Hello Friends!

It's been a little while between posts, so indulge me for a minute while I update you.

Last post I was auditioning for NSK Natasha's Scrapbook Korner, Guest Designer, and I am so happy to share that I made it! I will be creating for NSK in the new year, so stay tuned for some fun projects.
A big THANK YOU, to Natasha and her team of wonderfully talented designers. I am very grateful for the opportunity to craft with you.

I am still really busy with work, and Habitat for Humanity Atlantic County. At work, the hotel began it's renovation of all the rooms , a few at a time and the public space, in January, and most recently, we have begun our budget process. Not so fun, and very draining of my energy. But , although I have a few long days of number crunching in front of me, I will persevere!!

I am still trying to keep up with the shop at Teaberry, and managed a little yard saleing, this past weekend. Great time with my friend Beth, but I managed to catch a cold, which has me a bit down. This to shall pass, but I HATE being sick.

My family is doing ok. Parents are getting ready to move to a new apartment, and Keith is still searching for work. Geddy the Wonder cat keeps us all sane.

Back to the crafting......

So a few days ago, I was reviewing my YouTube subscriptions, and Dawn5377. a Stampin Up! demonstrator, I have followed for years, made this gorgeous card using the Ornamental Pine set of stamps. I loved the results so much, I placed an order with her. I later found out that Dawn hit her $1 million dollar milestone in career sales! Not from my order, but from another. I was so happy for her! I used to be a Stampin Up! demonstrator, years ago, and I loved the cards I made using her technique, that I am actually considering signing up once again. But, I truly do not need one more thing to do....

I played with the cards, and my stamps and I came up with the following cards:

This is the Reindeer card I make from start to finish on this video, about 25 minutes in length.

This is the card I made live on my Sunday Ustream show, that Dawn inspired. About 40 minutes in length. I loved the technique so much I could not wait for my order! I used my own stamps, and luckily had some of the Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder on hand! I'm glad I made the order for some more.

I am trying to keep up with my Ustream show on Sundays at 10am EST over on Ustream.tv under LaurelfromNJ. I would love to have you join the fun!

Watch out! This technique is pretty addictive! I have made about 10 cards in 3 days.

Thanks for reading along, and I hope to see you soon!

Hugs,

Today as I was watching some of my subscriptions on YouTube, I came across a Guest Design Team Call for NSK- Natasha's Scrapbook Korner, and I thought I might try submitting.

One of the requests was to create a video with a brief introduction, and resume of my crafting, and post it to YouTube. I have complied, but please excuse all of the funny faces I make in the video. I usually do not show my face on camera, and I am still uncomfortable doing so, even after all these years!

Here is my video:

Part of the submission was to share a project, and I have been working on a GumBall Machine for a few weeks now. I made it using Graphic45's Raining Cats & Dogs paper, which I really love. The colors and the content, I really like. I am working on a tutorial to share here on my blog so mother's could make one as well. It takes very little to make it, just some time, and a few items from the Dollar store and possibly your local craft store such as Michael's.
I had a lot of fun making it, so I hope you like it as much as I do.

Hello Friends!

Happy September! I had a super busy Summer at work, and I missed everyone and everything crafty.

I have a confession, I am addicted to Halloween stamps. There, I said it. Truth is, I really love Halloween. I am the weird lady that decorates the entire house, that everyone whispers about. I don't even care if they talk. I make sure I have the best treats for the smaller and smaller groups of trick or treaters that come around every year. My neighbors think I'm crazy, and so does Keith, but I don't care, I just love it.

This would explain my love of purchasing Halloween stamps, and dies, and colorful paper. Yet, I sit and admire it, and rarely make anything. So I am here to remedy that!

Are you a Halloween stamp addict too? Do you have stamps and dies rattling around in your drawers itching for their chance to shine? Well, this is it!

Here are the ground rules:
1. Make a series of Halloween Themed cards ( They do not all have to be the same). Number to be determined after sign ups close.

2. Use whatever medium you wish, stamp , paint, draw, gelatos , sprays, die cuts, whatever.

3. Can be any size card you wish, you must send an envelope to fit. Break out that punch board, you know you want to:)

4. Must be postmarked to me by 10/15/14. Please include return postage. Whatever it cost you to get it to me, it will cost me to get it back to you. If purchasing stamps is a problem or you are international, I will provide my PayPal address so you can just send me the cost of postage.

5. Please do not sign up unless you can fulfill the deadline, and will not flake!

6. I will take sign ups by asking you to comment on this post until 9/15/14. Please send me an e-mail as well with your e-mail address and contact details- address, twitter name, etc. ldeviney@comcast.net

7. I will post number of cards to make by 9/16/14.

8. I will swap out the cards, and return them to you in time for Halloween!

Sounds fun? Sign up!
Come be a Halloween weirdo like me!

Hugs!

It's been quite awhile since I have posted, so I will try and catch you up!
Started a new job, local to me in April. So far so good. Season is bonkers but that is par for the course. I really like it so far, if you rule out the meeting with a Senior VP that I messed up on Friday. My boss blew it too, so at least we are in trouble together. Just more to fix, and then move on.

Still house hunting for my parents and us. We managed to get an extension on their move, so just to find the right place. I bought a new car, which I am thrilled to pick up on Monday. So, Life is good!
I'm just sooo busy, with everything and life all at once.

I managed to make my November cards for the swap I am in this year with the Maryland girls..... So I am finished for the year. Just have to complete a gift for the hostess, and mail them out.

I found this cute card on Pinterest:

And I loved it so much, I bought the dies, 2 for a mere $12! and set out to make my version of the card using the supplies I had on hand.

I really loved the dies, which I purchased from EllenHutson.com, and they are Impression Obsession dies. Cut through card stock like butter, literally. Finished my card with Distress stickles dry glitter in Clear Rock Candy, topped off the stenciled trees in the background with my Wink of Stella pen, and I was all set!

I did not have the square dies that Kittie did, so I hand cut the square layers. Don't look too closely! I would have loved to have done a similar bow, but alas no red gingham ribbon ( every other color though!), so I used Bakers twine.

Now to decide if they need a sentiment or not. The theme was Sparkle Snow- Snow Scene. My friend Beth suggested: Merry Christmas, Dear but I'm still thinking it over.

I was so impressed by the service from Ellen Hutson- ( got my order in 2 days from Washington State- and I am in NJ), that I made a YouTube video about it.

Check them out! High quality products, really great prices!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your Summer!
Hello Friends!
Just continuing on my organizing campaign! I created these Ribbon Organizers from 1 sheet of chipboard and 1 12 x12 sheet of card stock, a little hot glue, some Scor-Tape, and some paint.
I have two bookcases that are near to my desk. They surround a window. I kept staring at the unused space between the window and the side of the bookcase. These can be mounted to the side of a bookcase using, heavy duty foam tape or Velcro.
I am trying so hard to get my surfaces clear of supplies, and use any available vertical space I have. Thank you to my friend Mitzi, who reminded me of the gutter ribbon storage idea, and to use the space on the side of my bookcase.

Here is the Supply List/ Cutting Guide:

1 sheet of 12 x 12 Chipboard
1 sheet of 12 x 12 Cardstock
Scor-Tape
Hot Glue
Paint
Scoring Board, Paper Trimmer, Scissors

Cutting Guide:
From Chipboard you need the following pieces:
(1) 4x9- This is the back
( 1) 4 1/4 x 9- This is the Bottom
(1) 2 1/2 x 9 This the Front
(2) 3 x 4 1/4 These are the sides
(1) 1 x 9 This is the Ribbon trap on the front
(4) 1/2 x 1 These are the spacers behind the Ribbon Trap
(1) 1/4 x 9 This is the spacer for inside the box to push up the rolls of ribbon

From the Cardstock:

These are all hinges and are all 2 inches wide, scored at 1 inch.Run Scor Tape on the interior, both sides of the score line, on one side of the paper.
(2) 2 x 9
(6) 2 x 5

I took this video to show you how to put it all together. I apologize for the length, and all of the flipping around,

So Far I have made 4, Three still need paint, in the course of 1 hour. So once you get started, they come together very easily. I am doing a similar organizer for washi tape.

Thank you for watching, and reading. Please be sure to leave me a comment, and subscribe to my blog.
Since I got an extra snow day today, I thought I would continue to try and make some cards, out of my box, so to speak. I see a lot of my favorite YouTube crafters are creating "One Layer Cards". This is something I have never been very good at, So here goes.

I started with some white card stock and a series of stamps and a pallet of Distress Inks. I like how the composition has depth, even though it has no layers. I mounted the panel on Kraft card stock, and went over the images with my Wink of Stella Clear pen, so in person it is very sparkly, in a subtle way. Technically, the sentiment makes this not a one layer card, because it is a separate piece, but I still think it qualifies. Very simple to do.

Vicky over at Clips-N-Cuts is having a fabulous giveaway and she reminded me about using the Inlinkz tool to list your supplies used on your blog posts. I had first been introduced to this when I was with Lindy Stamp Gang's Design Team. It is very simple to use. You can find out more about the giveaway, and Inlinkz here:

http://www.clips-n-cuts.com/2014/03/inlinkz/

Vicky also created a YouTube video describing how to use the tool:

Time to give it a try. Thank you for a nice reminder and such a generous giveaway!

Enjoy your snow day today if you are stuck inside, Make something crafty!
I have been busy getting things ready to start my new job this week. This included getting my home in better order, meal planning, shopping and some various projects. While I am at work, I always use a to-do list. It's form is a steno pad, with a date on the top. Whatever is not accomplished one day goes to the next, and so on. I seem to have better success when I actually check things off as I accomplish them. It dawned on me that I should use a similar method at home, to become more organized in various aspects of my life.
So, I began watching some videos by various ladies who use a Life Planner, Home Planner, or a Filofax. This lead me to determine what kind of things do I want to become better at. For me, my main problems are time management. I can get sidetracked very easily. I have since implemented the planner, and so far so good!
The areas I want to track, and improve are:

Time Management at Home: I am really great at work, but once I get home, all bets are off. By implementing a daily calendar , writing down appointments and tasks, I seem to be getting better about using my time.

Finances: I swear I just don't know where my money goes. I have implemented a monthly budget, and have begun tracking receipts. This has helped me to cut down on the impulse type buys. It also is helping me actually save some money.

Meal Planning: This is all about the finances. I used to spend far more than necessary at the grocery store. By planning out my meals 2 weeks at a time, this helps me use what is in my freezer. It also helps me to start using coupons again, and stay on track at the grocery store by shopping from a list. Also, if I plan my meals, I can take advantage of bulk purchases at Sam's Club, and discount grocery stores like Save- A Lot.

Blog/YouTube: I used to post to my blog and make videos with some sort of consistency. In the past year, my blog has suffered. I really enjoy my Ustream shows, and making YouTube videos, but I need a schedule. If I attempt to keep up with these things, without a schedule, it never works.

House Cleaning: When you work as much as I do, cleaning seems to be last on my list. Having not been here in NJ for the past 7 weeks, has left a lot of much needed re- organizing, Keith does well on the dishes and trash, but the dusting, and organizing- not so much.

I made a little video to show you my planners for Home and for work:

While I was busy making my planners, and using them, I discovered a few projects I wanted to tackle around the house. The first of which was our pantry. This poor thing had been neglected for a long time. It was not functional at all. I cleared it out, checking all the expiration dates. I made a huge pile of trash, and learned my lesson. Procrastinating these tasks does not help anything. The whole remodel took me 2 hours, and that included a trip to the Dollar Tree for some bins. I don't know why I put these things off. The other lesson I learned fits right in with my meal planning and finance, namely shop with a list!!! I had a great tendency to overspend at the grocery store, and never use the stuff. Now I only have to remember the huge amount of groceries I threw out, for no other reason than a lack of planning. Pantry is completed! It is clean and organized. Next I am going to tackle my kitchen drawers and cabinets, perhaps one a day until completed.

While I was at the Dollar Tree, I found a great organizer for my Distress Inks and my craft drawers beneath my desk. I have gone through 3 drawers and used them to section things off, and it has helped tremendously. Now when I open the drawer, things don't move around, and the drawers can open and shut easily. 2 more drawers to go in this unit.

I got to thinking about all the organizers I have bought over the years to house my craft supplies. I have found only a few things that have really worked. Using Baseball card sleeves in a fat 3" binder for my clear $1 stamps, worked very well. Repurposing Priority Mailboxes into Paper Storage, worked very well too. I have been watching a lot of my favorite crafters on YouTube dive into using Avery Elle Stamp Pockets for thier 4 x 6 size stamps, and storing them in bins so they may be flipped through. I am really liking this idea. I am planning on converting my stamps that are currently in huge binders, and everywhere to this method, next month. I think it will help me house my collection more easily, and I will use them more. I did place my Stampers Anonymous stamps on their cards, in a photo box, so that I can flip through them. I am liking this method a lot better than the binders I used to keep them in. In one photo box I have 33 sets of stamps, that used to be in 4 mini binders. I have room for more as well. I could easily fit 50 sets in one box. My plans for next month's conversion include purchasing a few Fridge Binz from the Container Store and I believe these sets will fit in one of those as well. Now what to do with all the wood mounted stamps I still have.....

A few side organizing projects I have undertaken this week are: Card Boxes with dividers by Theme of cards I make. One for Home and one for Work. I usually have a photo box full of birthday, thank you, congratulations cards at work.

I also have taken on putting together a Survival Kit for the office. I saw a video by At work with Nikki on YouTube where she explains the idea, and I thought it was awesome.

She has sectioned hers into muslin pouches , which are labeled. She put together things for when those little emergencies pop up. For example, she has a pouch labeled clothing. Inside that pouch there is a lint brush, shout wipes, a sewing kit. She has a pouch labeled Oral care. Inside that pouch she has toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss. Altogether she has about 10 pouches. with everything from hand lotion to q-tips, to band-aids. I loved the case she used, which was a Caboodles train case. They sell it at K-mart for $33. I have been putting together various items to make my Survival kit. I have to go to Michaels $1.50 spot to get the bags. Currently , my items are in ziploc bags, which is ok, just not as pleasing to look at.

Let me know how you store your crafty things, and household items. I still have a lot of closets to get through!

Hugs,

Hello Friends!

Today I am also sharing my cards that I created for a card swap I participate in. This swap provides us with a theme or technique each month. I have been working ahead, due to my previous travel work schedule, and now since I am starting a new job in a week, I figured I will maintain my lead.

Themes for the months were as follows:

April: Emboss Resist and More: Any Embossed Resist technique or dry embossing.
May: Sing the Blues: Use Monochrome Blue ( may use black and white as a complement) and incorporate a piece of music sheet or a music stamp.
June: Sail Away or Under Sea: Use a water technique with any of the following: Gelatos, watercolors, H2O's, Distress paints, Distress Inks, or Distress Stains.

Since I was itching to get back into crafting, I thought I would use the cards as a way to jump start myself.

Here is a video of the cards I created:

Please leave me your comments. I appreciate your feedback! Thank you to Nancy Parker, and Martha Lee for including me in the card swap this year!

Hugs,
