Nothing is worse on a cold winter morning than stepping from a cozy bed onto chilly floors. Brrrr!

A radiant heating system alleviates this problem with warmth rising up from a toasty flooring surface. William Shady and Gregory Cross of Pacific Solar Radiant Inc. are taking this technology a step further, harnessing it to the power of the sun.

Now, thanks to a recent extension of the federal solar energy tax credit, solar radiant has become a more affordable heating alternative for those who want to warm their home while helping to cool the planet….

High above the beaches of Santa Cruz, a mountain-top retirement retreat was designed and constructed to take advantage of the 360-degree views of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the majestic Santa Cruz mountains surrounding Mt. Loma Prieta. The stunning views are only enhanced by the light footprint the building leaves on the environment.

Designed by Thatcher and Thompson Architects in Santa Cruz, the Iuliano residence was constructed with sustainable energy as a cornerstone of the design philosophy.

The award-winning, solar-assisted radiant hydronic floor, domestic hot water, swimming pool and spa heating system was designed by William Shady, P.E., Sustainable Design and Project Management, Santa Cruz, and constructed by Greg Cross, a licensed plumbing contractor….
