Paige's problems started early in life. "I grew up in a good home filled with love, lots of family... we'd pray together, and I knew about God," she recalls. "But in the 5th grade a good friend killed herself with a gun. Then one of my best friends committed suicide in the 8th grade."

Paige's Story of Hope (Quicktime Version)

A few months later, Paige was gang raped at a high-school party. "I suddenly found myself really, really angry toward God. He was supposed to protect me. Why would he let these things happen to me?"

Her family moved from Portland to St. Helens, and Paige's new friends introduced her to marijuana. "I shut down, then started drinking, then cocaine. The next thing I knew, I was a full-blown addict, with heroin and meth."

"I didn't think God cared...no one else cared... why should I? I couldn't quit, and it just got worse and worse -- a vicious cycle."

Paige has been in our New Life Recovery Ministry for a year. She is well on the path toward healing and a newfound personal relationship with Jesus who does care. "And now I care," she says, "about myself, and others. There's hope."

Robert came to us after years of drug use starting at age 13, he was incarcerated from age 15 to 18, then suffered severe medical problems and entered multiple detox programs for alcoholism. He lost his job, his home, his wife and his son.

After graduating from our New Life Recovery program, Robert is employed again and starting over. "A miracle has happened - I'm alive, I'm sober...the Mission saved my life."

On Wednesday, March 30th, we threw a birthday party for over 400 men and women in need.

Friends like you sent in over 500 birthday cards with caring handwritten notes. Our volunteer pastry chef, Lynn, made 400 incredibly delicious cupcakes. Fred Meyer provided gift bags filled with socks, fruit and other helpful items. K-Love 88.7 radio offered New Testament Bibles to anyone who desired one.

Your support brings hope to people who may feel lost and forgotten. Thanks.
But not this year. Birthday Party for the Homeless (Quicktime Version) On Wednesday, March 30th, we threw a birthday party for over 400 men and women in need.
God's blessing has filled each day as we served hundreds of hurting men, women and children here in Portland. We're grateful for public support that allows us to touch each of these lives.

Friends like you have helped us serve more than 232,000 meals to hungry people this year (about 14% more for homeless guests than 2009). We provided over 60,000 shelter-nights, with an increase of about 20 beds per night for homeless men plus thousands of showers, and countless personal hygiene items and clean, fresh clothing. And an encouraging word.

Because we don't receive government funding, private giving from friends like you fuels this ministry. So as we look forward to the new year, we recognize that our donations during the close of 2010 largely dictate the amount of services we can offer in the coming year.

Would consider a gracious gift to help us finish the year strong?
