Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Review

What's up guys? It's me lord_emina with another game review! I never thought I'd see the day when I'm gonna review a PSP game, but look at me now! This time it's on of Capcom's best... OMG! They're about to get ownd by Nargacuga!

Developer(s): Capcom
Platform(s): PlayStation Portable
Genre(s): Action Role-Playing Game
Multiplayer: Yes (Up to 4 Players)

Story:

How can I put it this way... The Story is not that important... Well it's like this... The story in MHFU is some what bland... Let me try to explain it from my point of view...

When you start a new save you can see your character walking in a mountain. Then as he/she was walking, he/she noticed some thing was wrong. And out of nowhere a Tigrex (just Google it or some thing) came out and attacked you, sending you and your weak armor set tumbling down that mountain. After a while you character awakens in a small town in the mountains called Pokke. The guy who cared for you explains that your the new village Hunter in charge of protecting the Village from Monsters. He also explains that he was a Hunter back in his days, but now retired, he can only give you advice to help on your hunts. Now you journey begins to protect the small village.

Yeah... Bland...

Gameplay:

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is simply just an "expansion" from it's previous game Monster Hunter Freedom 2, also on the PSP. So if your familiar to MHF2 then your good. But if you don't let me try to explain to you how MHFU works.

In this game, you are a Monster Hunter (well no duh!) and you Hunter Monsters (really now?!) who terrorize the small village your residing in. In MHFU there are a lot of weapons to chose from. Let's count. Sword and Shield, Dual Swords, Long Sword, Great Sword, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gun Lance, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, and Bow all of which have their own advantages and disadvantages. Such as the Dual Swords being very quick and agile, but can only do so much damage. Wherein the Great Sword and dish out tons of damage, at the price of your speed. But all of these traits can be tested in the training missions where you can pick your style of fighting.

As you progress in the game, like let's say you Hunt more monster, you can get their loot. Like Hides, Scales, Claws of the monster you just hunted. And these loots aren't just for selling, they're mostly use to make better Armor and Weapons to aid you in your hunt so you can fight more monsters to get their loot to make better Armor and Weapons, and the wheels on the bus go round and round. And that's basically Monster Hunter to you.

Seems kind of redundant? Well it's not! At first I had the same reaction to it. Every mission here is different. Even though your doing the same mission over and over again, it's different in some weird way. You know it and feel it's the same, but some thing in the back of your head says otherwise.

One thing I also like about this game is that every person who plays this game will always be different to one another. No two players will have the same game style. Sure they may use the same weapons and armors, but the fighting style will ALWAYS be different... An example here is my cousin and me. His style of playing involves getting up close on each Monster since he uses Great Swords, Gun Lances, and Hunting Horns. Sure at times monsters don't last as long when he's fighting them, but at the price of chugging down many potions because he gets hurt more ofter since he fights at close range. Wherein me I mainly use a Bow. It does weak damage, but it has the advantage of being far from the monster and using less potions because I don't get hurt much often as my cousin does. That's why each player will always have a different style of playing.

The best reason also why I like this game is because it offers hundreds and maybe even thousands of hours of game play. I'm already at 90+ hours in my file and yet I'm only at Hunter Rank 2! And get this, you start at Hunter Rank 1! I've only moved up 1 Rank ever since I started! And the Maximum Hunter Rank is G (Hunter Rank 10)! I wonder at times when will the day be when my character becomes a G Rank Hunter...

Controls:

The Controls for MHFU are really, really complicated. It's almost second to a Flight Simulator in terms of difficult controls. And yes the game utilizes every button on the PSP. Example the Square Button is used to use items like Potions, Antidotes and such, but it's also used to sheathe your weapon when drawn. So at times (ever now) I accidentally use Potions when I don't need to. Though the controls are hard to get used to, this is some thing that shouldn't be the reason why you shouldn't play it. Yes it'll take 20+ hours to get used to it, but I'm telling you that it's well worth it.

And don't get me started on the Camera!

Graphics:

Capcom VS. Plum Daimyo Hermitaur

The graphics seem like it came from a PS2 Game. Which Monster Hunter Freedom 2 did come from. MHFU is a port from the PS2 to the PSP. So similarity is not far away.

At times MHFU seems a bit blocky. But most of the times it's not.

A cool thing I love about this game, is that it has giant weapons, and huge monsters!

And I mean HUUUUGEEEE!!!

And here's the thing... THERE'S SOME THING BIGGER THAN THAT THING!!!

Sounds:

Hmm... There's not much to write about here... It's not much of a big deal you know. One can easily play MHFU without any sounds... I see this a lot of times so that people can save up on battery. But I can say the BGM is nice at times... But the BGM only activates when you fight a Boss Monster. So if your on regular missions, you won't be hearing any BGM in the background.

Overall:

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is a great game. Very different from most other Action RPGs and offers many many hours of gameplay. I myself an anti-PSP person, am actually thinking of getting my own PSP just to play this game fully. Maybe I might buy an original copy of it!

Overall Scores:

Story: 4 (Really Bland...)
Gameplay: 10 (Different, and Addictive...)
Controls: 3 (Very Hard to get used to...)
Graphics: 9 (Very crisp and sharp, but blocky at times...)
Sounds: 5 (It's there, but it's not...)

Overall Score: 9

"Some times you have to force your self to stop... Because MH is really THAT fun! 8 Hours per day is not enough!" - Me Talking to a friend about Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Well, Thanks for reading my review! More game reviews on the way soon!

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, you've just been TAGGED!

lord_emina, out...

Yeah, hell. Nothing else could best describe the feeling you get after beating the game, to witness Neku's priceless "WHAT THE HELL" moment. This sure has one of the most retarded endings I've ever seen in my entire history of playing RPGs. Not that it actually sucks, no. Not really. B-but...yeah. Just play the game to relate to its insanity.

May contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Repeating my previous words, I've never seen any top 10 list of DS games without TWEWY being from fourth place tops to first on it. Not really because Neku is a fangirl material (I do admit that) but this game, coming from Square Enix, promises a great deal of uniqueness from the usual RPG stuff in fair volume that noobies can handle. Don't get me wrong though, as for the reason why I've said that this game sucks was mainly because of the unwelcoming introduction of our resident emo...fangirl material. It's an achievement that I got a hold of his shitness for 7 days and more in-game time without breaking the DS in half. And look at me, I'm doing a full review of it...haha, what a joke. Anyways.

The story of TWEWY boasts a highly-sensible plot which drives on way a better road than those "to save the world and bring peace and order back" candid and monotonous plot. Deviating from the usual fantasy shit that most of Square Enix game delivers, TWEWY is set on a modern day perspective centered in Shibuya, Japan. The story is not entirely fictional, too, because most of the in-game locations are actual landmarks in Shibuya like 109 building (104 in game), Hachiko Statue, Dogenzaka and more.

Also, take note that aside from each characters personal business within the story, Shibuya's welfare will be the main concern of everyone, as revealed in the later part of the story. Shibuya is their everything, so the rest of the world can go fuck itself for all they care.

The gameplay and battle system is controlled mostly with stylus (I always prefer it than grid-based games), and while outside the combat mode +Control pad and A,B,X,Y also allows you to run through Shibuya, rendering the letter pads as an "extra" D-pad and nothing else, lol. The most glorious creative twist the game has to offer compared to the usual ones is the DUAL-SCREEN combat system. You control Neku with stylus on the lower screen and your partner on the upper one with the use of the D-pad.

Of course, it's totally confusing at first. But you don't really have to put all your might perfecting the dual combat because button-bashing for your partner's movement will work out just fine. Take note that even both of your characters are in separate screen, they share the same HP, which also applies to your foes. As for the attacks, the main battling tools are the pins called "psych".

Psychs are activated during the battle mode using different sorts of stylus execution. Slash, press, tap empty space, touch enemy, shout at the mic, etc. Amusing isn't it? Although yo'll have to pay attention on organizing your deck properly since a lot of pins bash each others' psych execution drift (which is a bummer). A total of 300 pins are said to be collectible in the game, including the swags and other unusable. Swags are like "raw materials" which can be used to unlock and acquire certain items like pins and outfits.

Speaking of outfits, dressing up in TWEWY is as charming as hell. You won't need to fit hideous bulky armors, a change from the usual RPGs. Instead, freely engage yourself for a trend-hunt in over 13 different clothing line brands (including Unbranded), and I'm talking about modern-age fashion here, obviously.

It's also cool that some brands are made to suit certain characters perfectly, like Neku and Jupiter of the Monkey, Shiki and D+B, or Josh-tard and Pavo Real, the most expensive brand. Gosh, Josh, you even bastardize my wallet.

Last and the best note about this game is the music. A great portion of an acceptable reason why I should be head-over-heels for this game is because of the music. I've yet to find a decent download site for the mp3s, out of desperation to get a hold of the music I'm extracting mp3s from Youtube. There's a load of them in that site, so if you have time please go check out the tracks.

Overall, The World Ends With You is the epitome of what you can actually call an "awesome" game from head to toe. Small wonder it fitted nicely into being one of 2008's best game of the year.

Oh, by the way...

Aha, save the best for last. Told you this blog contains spoilers. You'll see this scene after you've beat the game (bet you'll be shouting "what the hell" together with Neku). Fucking best scene in the entire game, for once I'd agree with Joshua that Neku's facial expressions are priceless.

TWEWY also has New Game+ feature which let's you play any chapter of the entire game. Usual conditions applies like keeping your max level, items, and everything in between while on the back-track with the story. What's so fun about that? Apparently, it let's you mark the chapter as "complete" by accomplishing the required missions given in each chapter and unravels the filed "report" which includes general information about the story in a formal manner. Think about it, this may be your key in finding answers to some of the plot's mysteries. A new extra chapter was also opened, won't say anything much about it so you can just check by yourself.

Lastly, New Game+ gives you access in acquiring exclusive outfits you'll never find in stores. Sailor uniform, maid outfit, yukata, Pi-face's outfit...yep. Plus the monstrous stats those clothes has to offer. Fabulous.

Well, this sums up everything. Play this game! Even just for the heck of it, I'll be sure you'd get hooked with this, eventually.

Its a really great server, with lots of great people, and nice rates, not too high, not too low, personally It's just right. The only problem is the abysmal population. At any one time the server only has about 10-15 people online, so thats what this is for. I'd like to ask anyone interested in joining a private ragna server to please check out Justice RO. Heres some random info about the server:
EXP Rates:
x15 Base/ x15 Job/ x10 drops
Available NPCs
Job Change NPC
Platinum Skill NPC
Reset NPC*
Dungeon/Town Warp

You can download the Client at http://www.justicero.net (just look for the download section)

* = you can reset your characters base and job, but if you reset past level 89 you will be dropped back down to 89. This is to prevent people from 99 as a combat class, then reseting to a forger/brewer.

I have a lot of gear and other stuff in my storage, so if you join I can support you and give you some starter items. =D If you have any questions about the server you can ask here, or ask Ryan at the Kubo.

I don't gamble real money, Just like not killing people but do kill them in MMORPGs.

MY PERSONAL OPINION ABOUT POKER
Gambling, in poker that is, is a test of courage , letting your enemy know that you are serious to take all his/her money using techniques such as bluffing, cheating, connivance, etc. WAAHAHAHAHA, not always true in the Virtual World
...
...
...

Bluffs are very effective in mysterious ways, believe me.

As a start you should know that Texas Holdem is different from the 5hand-poker game where a player can have their cards changed before the bet is raised... (I am still not good at poker)
Instead, each of the player holds 2 cards and use their talents, lucky charms, cash, anything that they believe that can make them win a game...
And add them to the 3-5 cards and make the best 5 hand card combination, remembering that.. no suit is more powerful than another and there are 169 hole(starting hand) card combination.

For example...
Jigsaw holds K♥(heart) and K♠(spade) (COWBOYS) (Nice Hand or NH)
Dora holds 2♠(spade) and 6♣(clubs) (AINSWORTH) (underdog)

Who will most likely win?

Jigsaw of course, A pair of As, Ks, Qs, and Js, (the 4 highest cards) has the odds of 1:54.3 or 1.81% probability are the best pairs and the probability of an enemy to have a better pair against you ranges from only 1.5% - 4.4% (pretty small actually)

But...

Probabilities are no much against Luck (another opinion of mine)

If Dora bluffs and game continues... what would happen next?

No one knows... Yet

The better hand may lose if the community cards(cards of the dealer that are combined with the cards of the players) have 3,4,and 5 of any suit making it a Straight.

Joshua's K♥,K♠,3♠,4♠,5♠

Dora's 2♠,3♠,4♠,5♠,6♣

Dora Wins!

Guide Status: Still Incomplete

MY FACEBOOK POKER STATS:

Aion: Tower of Eternity

Aion is basically about the world Atreia w/ Aion, the Tower of Eternity connecting everything. The Balaur, a powerful race opposed Aion, their creator. The Deveas, a race weaker than the Balaur, who are completely loyal to Aion went to war w/ the Balaur. The Devea banished the Balaur in a different dimensional plane and peace was achieved though it did not last long. The Deveas splitted into two different factions. One believed that the war should end and there should be peace; while other wants to annihilate the Balaur. The Balaur offered peace but thru betrayal, they got enraged and destroyed the tower of eternity, resulting to it to split into two. The world is also separated into two, having the upper region is inhabited by Asmodians and the lower region by the Elyos. In the middle of the two halves is the Abyss. Because of the differences betweent the two races, their bitterness grew and started blaming each other for the destruction of Atreia. Now there is a three-sided war between the Balaur, the Asmodians and the Elyos; each wanting to gain control of the tower and making sure of their survival.

I learned about this game thru youtube after i logged in. I checked the video out and i was really taken by it. it's like a mix of Sims 3, Ragna, WoW, Shaiya and other games. You can really customize your characters like that in the Sims 3 sims creation so it's very rare, near to impossible to have the exact same character as someone else. Like in WoW, you can fly i guess around lvl 9 or 10 and also the downside of having a marker for how long/far you can fly. Like Ragna after reaching a certain level you have to choose a a job. Like Shaiya, the people opposed their creator. The graphics and soundtrack is also nice but i dunno for the game play. Since i haven't played it yet, my opinion is still in the hanging.

It was launched around November last year, the Chinese beta has already ended and i think that the beta in the us/eu will be released May this year. Aion global will be released on fall this year, around September i think. Has anyone played the beta? What do you guys think? It looks like promising game to me. Look it up on youtube to see videos of it. (Please kindly correct me if i had written anything wrong. Thank you.)

Links:
http://www.aionglobal.com/
http://www.aiononline.com/us/

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Review

What's up guys? I'm here once again for another Video Game Review. This time it's the Money Milking Game of Nintendo Called Pokemon.

Pokemon Diamond Box Cover
Pokemon Pearl Box Cover

Reviewer's Note: Both Games are the same except that there are some Pokemon only obtainable in Diamond and vice versa with Pearl. So that's why I posted two Box Covers.

Developer(s): Game Freak
Platform(s): Nintendo DS
Genre(s): RPG (Role-Playing Game)
Multiplayer: Yes (Up to 4 and capable of Online Play)

Plot:

The games chronicle the adventures of a new Pokémon trainer who strives to become the Pokémon League Champion by collecting and training Pokémon. Like most games in the series, Diamond and Pearl feature eight Pokémon gyms led by Gym Leaders, professional trainers whose expertise lies in a particular Pokémon type. Gym Leaders serve as bosses and reward skilled trainers with Gym badges, key to the advancement of the plot. As in Ruby and Sapphire, the protagonist must also thwart the schemes of a crime syndicate (here Team Galactic) who plan to use Pokémon to restructure the region into a utopia.

Like all other Pokémon RPGs, Diamond and Pearl begin in the protagonist's hometown. After viewing a television report about a media-conducted search for a Red Gyarados spotted at a far-away lake (Johto's Lake of Rage), the protagonist and his/her best friend travel together to check the local lake for a Pokémon like it. They spot Professor Rowan, a Pokémon evolution researcher, and his assistant, the playable character not selected in the game: Dawn (girl) or Lucas (boy). After a short discussion the professor and his assistant leave the lake, leaving a briefcase behind. When they are attacked by wild Starly, the protagonist and his/her rival examine the case. The player is then given a choice between three Pokémon found in the briefcase (Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup) to battle the Starly with. After defeating the Starly, Dawn or Lucas retrieves and returns the briefcase to the professor. Noticing that a bond has been forged between the young protagonist and his/her chosen Pokémon, Rowan offers it to him/her, asking that he/she embark on a journey and fill his/her Pokédex.

Reviewer's Note: Plot taken from Wikipedia.org

Story:

It's the same... Well I can't it's not! Because it is... If ever you've played a Pokemon Game before, then you already know the story. Player (You) go on a journey around which ever Region your in (depending on the Pokemon Game your playing) to help out that Professor you helped out in the beginning of the game fill up your Pokedex with all Pokemon (when I mean all I mean all 493 of them) which he already saw and knows, but says it's for research. As you progress on your journey you decide to beat up a few of the Gym Leaders scattered though out the Region and decide that will your filling up that Professor's Pokedex you might a well the Pokemon League so that you can be the greatest Pokemon Trainer in in world. And along the way you meet up with an Evil Organization who wants to rule/destroy the world with their Evil Pokemon. With the Help of an NPC character (which you know is the Pokemon Champion of the Elite Four) you stop the Evil Organization on what ever they're doing and make them believe that what they were doing was wrong and admit their doings. After that you could continue to play after you've finished the game and level up your Pokemon like mad.

With that said. It's all good...

Gameplay:

Well... There's so much to say about the Gameplay and I don't know where to start. Maybe the fact that it's great! Yeah that's it!

It's back though! Real Time Day and Night! So your gonna have that problem of waking up early (as in 5 am early) in the morning to catch those weak Bug-Type Pokemon! Oh joy!

Through the years of playing all Generations of Pokemon Games I can easily say that this one has the best game play. A few minor and major tweaks in the game play, but it's basically still the same "Walk around in the grass and find Pokemon to catch, after caught you beat up other Pokemon to beat up Other trainers, and eventually the Pokemon League."

But other than the main game play every one is after, there's a lot of extra things you can do here. Like join Pokemon Contests wherein the Strength of the Pokemon doesn't matter but the coordination of executing moves to impress judges. Some what gardening Berries you find and plant to help you in your journey. Cooking those Berries you found and planted. Mining for Items Underground. And so many more.

A thing I love about Pokemon is that it can offer Hundreds of Hours of Game Play (if you don't rush it that it...) and those hundreds of hours still may not be enough to do almost every thing in the game. A new thing about these series is that is also offers Online Play with people around the World. You can fight, trade, share records, and even talk to other People all over the World with the help of the built in Mic of the Nintendo DS. Hah! Take that PSP! Let me see you do that!

Controls:

Hmm... It's kind of the same... Though I also like that fact that this game utilizes the Touch Screen of the DS a lot. From the Cooking part to easier navigation and organizing you Pokemon. And it also uses all the functions of the DS (except the L and R buttons though).

Other than those facts... I've seen it before...

Graphics:

It's awesome. And you guys thought that the DS is not capable of rendering Graphics such as this or this. I love that fact that the game uses full 3-D graphics but makes it look like that's it's in 2-D as well.

Plus in Pokemon Battles, the Animation moves look spectacular even a simple attack such as Scratch already looks like a Slash in previous games. And powerful moves such as Hyper Beam have jaw dropping effects. It's just great.

Though it's not a fast as loading as like it's past game like Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald, and tends to lag at times. But even though, it still looks very nice to look at.

Sounds:

It still uses the Midi Voices for Pokemon... And every thing else I guess... I never hear of complains of any kind from the Sound of the game, so I guess Game Freak never though of improving it. "If it's not broken, then don't fix it..." right?

I love the new BGMs though... It get's you in the mood...

Overall:

If you own a DS I suggest that you get one of these versions or maybe the latest Pokemon Game, Platinum. Either if your a Pokemon Fan or an RPG fan you'll love these games. Childish? Maybe... But it's still fun! Hey! I already have 200+ hours in my Pokemon Diamond Save and I'm still playing it.

Story is "Meh..." Gameplay is "OMG! This is great!" Graphics are "WTF?! This is Pokemon?!" Controls are "Ohh... More Buttons... Cool..." Sounds is "Hey I remember that! It's the same from Pokemon Yellow!".

Overall Scores:

Story: 5 (It's the Same... Don't bother...)
Gameplay: 10 (It's great... A lot of changes and yet it's the same)
Controls: 8 (Simple to learn but at times it doesn't do what you want to)
Graphics: 10 (Ohh... Pretty lights... Wait! I'm getting OWNED!)
Sounds: 10 (Hahaha! Machoke still sounds like and Idiot!)

Overall Score: 10

Sure I'm a fan of Pokemon and all... But still... It's a great game! Yes it's childish, and repetitive, but People still are playing it right?

Well, Thanks for reading my review! More game reviews on the way soon!

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, you've just been TAGGED!

lord_emina, out...

I know it's been a while but here I am once again with another Video Game Review! 1... 2... 3...

Developer(s): Bandai, Digifloyd
Platform(s): PlayStation 2
Genre(s): Fighting
Multiplayer: Yes (1-2 Players)

Story:

The story of Kamen Rider Kabuto is... You guessed it, the exact same story from the Series and the Movie of Kamen Rider Kabuto. So unless you've already watched the series, it wouldn't bother you if you didn't know what's going on in the Game because you already know what happens any way. If you didn't watch/know the Series or can't read Japanese, then you should question yourself why your playing this game.

The thing I like about this game is that it follows the Series with good accuracy.

Other than that, there's not much to say about the Story. Just watch the series if you want to know the Story behind Kabuto and why he points at the sky every time he wins.

Gameplay:

Kamen Rider Kabuto is an old game. Who old you ask? Well it's format is a CD format and not the regular DVD format. So you could just imagine how old it is.

This game it not an average one lane fighting game as it is a 3-D fighting game. If you've ever played Power Stone then you'll get the idea on how the gameplay looks like. As for the fighting part it self? Well... It's ok I guess... The combos are good, ever though it a bit repetitive at times... Well most of the time... OK! All of the time... But I have to hand it to Bandai, that even though it's not that good, they did a good job with it. The good thing about it, is that it's like Power Stone as well. Up to 4 players (though only 2 players plus 2 AI) and beat up each other like no tomorrow. And yeah... It's fun to finish off people using the finishers.

The AI need helps... Lots of it. At regular difficulty you could easily beat the computer without breaking a sweat. And it doesn't help that you could easily win just by using the "Grab" command all the time on your enemies. And even on the Hardest difficulty the AI is still pretty easy.

Another thing I noticed is that you could easily beat the game, unlock all the characters, play with some friends, and you only used up about 4 hours of your day. With most games now a days 4 hours won't even get you 1% of game completion.

Though it's real short, it's a fun game to play ever now and then. And watching the Finisher Moves of the Riders' will never get old!

Controls:

There's not much to say about the controls. It's really basic. If your gonna play this for the first time with a friend who know how to play the game and teaches you the basic controls, I could say you've already mastered the game already.

Though at times as well, the game doesn't seem to detect want you really want to do. I would be screaming my head off at time when I'm playing "Do the spin kick you idiot!!" while frantically shaking the controller. So... Yeah... That's about it...

Graphics:

Finally! A redeeming factor to the game!

Though this game may be old, the graphics for it's time is real good! It may even surpass some of the newer games (PS2) out there. Character design is good, visual effect are great, and the explosions are awesome! Even the in game videos are great.

And with that said about the graphics, let's just leave it at that.

Why don't you check out the graphics for your self? Just don't mind the bad resolution of YouTube.

1... 2... 3... Rider Kick!!

Sounds:

Using Sound Clips from the Series, the game has great sound as well. From every little detail like Gatack's Zector having a different voice from the other Zectors. The Music used in the series is also used in the game as well too. Though it's kind of old, it's really well done.

Overall:

This game is great for fans of the Series, or people who know Kamen Rider Kabuto, or maybe even people who want to have mindless fun beating up each other. But if your not a fan or the Series or maybe you need a serious game, it's not for you. Find some thing else.

I gotta say for and old game, it has great graphics!

Overall Scores:

Story: 10 (For following the Stories of the Series and Movie)
Gamplay: 6 (The AI and some parts of the game need help)
Controls: 5 (Easy to learn but it doesn't follow want you want it to do)
Graphics: 8 (For an old game it's really great)
Sounds: 10 (1... 2... 3... Rider Kick!!)

Overall Score: 7

It's a great game for the fans of Kamen Rider Kabuto, but not for regular gamers. Or if your looking for a brief time of fun with some friends, try playing this one.

Well, Thanks for reading my review! More game reviews on the way soon!

Kamen Rider Kabuto, you've just been TAGGED!

lord_emina, out...

I dont expect much cause wii is not meant for ninja games where a lot of jumping is need. I was dissapointed to the game play. Ack! When fighting, there is a time for you to attack and to defend, if im not mistaken... You can no longer climb roofs, the graphics was not amazing as expected on Wii. Here's video:

So what can you say?

Touhou 12 Demo

THERE IS A GOD!!!

Ahem... Sorry for that random outburst but as you can tell I'm really happy that I finally got around and played the demo of Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object!

The demo only has 3 stages. ZUN's art has gotten better. (No more zombie looking Reimu!) The music is still awesome (I really dig the Stage 1 theme and Nazrin's theme.) and the bullet dodging is still pretty challenging. (But not as brutal as Touhou 11: Subterranean Animism.)

Features:

You can select from 3 characters: Reimu, Marisa, and Sanae. Each character has 2 shot types. (Shot A is a straight penetrating type. Shot B is a spread type.) Each characters' shots have different functions for example Reimu B has homing shots.

Reintroducing a separate counter for bombs. Each character has a bomb unique to themselves and the bomb depends on what shot type you chose. (For example, Marisa A has Master Spark.)

Each Touhou game has a feature that makes them stand out from other games in the series (and make them challenging) like the Cherry Point System of Touhou 7 and the Human/Phantom gauge in Touhou 8. So what is the feature in Touhou 12? UFOs. No, I'm not kidding. Okay, here is how it works: At the lower left of the screen is your UFO counter. You need to collect 3 UFOs of the same color or one of each color to summon a giant UFO. (The colors of the UFOs are red, green, and blue by the way.) When the giant UFO appears, it will suck in all item points and power-ups filling a gauge. When the gauge is filled, it will spawn an item depending on what color it is. (Red = piece of health, Green = piece of bomb, Blue = point multiplier) When you collect UFOs of each color, a sparkling giant UFO appears. What it does is it converts items it sucks in. So if it sucks in point items, when you blow it up they turn into power-ups and vice versa. You pretty much need to get used to this because this is the only way you can get life and bombs. (It isn't like Touhou 10 and Touhou 11 where bosses drop health items.)

Here are some screenshots of my play through:

Fighting the Stage 1 boss, Nazrin.

Fighting the Stage 2 boss, Kogasa Tatara.

The Bosses:

(From left to right) Nazrin (Stage 1 boss), Kogasa Tatara (Stage 2 boss), and Ichirin Kumoi. (Stage 3 boss.)

Stage 1: Nazrin
A mouse youkai. The stage 1 theme and Nazrin's theme is really good. She seems to be the current fan favorite because she has more fan art than the other 2. She is really cute but I'm leaning more on Kogasa.

Stage 2: Kogasa Tatara
A kasa-obake. This stage is where it gets challenging. I still need a bit of time to master dodging her Spell Cards. She is really cute especially with that silly umbrella and she likes to stick out her tongue. (Tongue moe?)

Stage 3: Ichirin Kumoi
She kinda looks like Bridget. Thankfully Ichirin is not a trap. (God bless you ZUN for not putting a trap in the Touhou games.) She is tough on Normal Mode. (I haven't beaten her yet.) but I beat her in Easy Mode. (Yet she still is a pain in the rear even on Easy Mode.)

I really can't wait for the full version to come out. In the meantime, I shall sharpen my bullet dodging skills.

BOOM!!!!

Trap Gunner is a shooting game where the only objective is to kill your enemy. In Trap Gunner, there are 6 characters to play with:

Van Raily
John Bishous
Tico
Lou Riche
Abdoll Relin
Tenrou Ugetsu

And 3 Unlockables:

Rem Raily (Van's Sister)
Dyn (John bestfriend)
Elg or Tengen Ugetsu (Tenrou's Father)

There are 6 types of traps:

Bomb
Switch
Mine
Trap Hole
Gas
Force

Each has their own uses:

Bomb: Explosion amplifier!!
Switch: Press X then BOOM!!!
Mine: Step on it, THEN BOOM!!!
Trap Hole: Traps you for a matter of seconds.
Gas: Set it, then run!!! It sets of by itself after a matter of moments.
Force: If you step on it, it will force you to a certain direction.

If ever you play it, I recommend using trap combos.
For example:

Force, Trap Hole then SWITCH!!!!!

Tico has these 3 starting traps, but she's not recommended for new players. She is hard to use.

CONTROLS:

D-PAD
X:Detonate switch
O:long-range if far away, short-range if close to each other.
[]:Set Trap
/\:Detect Mode, Diffuse trap or Retrieve trap
R1:Next trap
L1:Prev. trap
R2:NONE!!
L2:Change Camera angle
Start: Pause!!

That's it!!! If you ever get it, HAVE FUN!!!

RosenKreuzStilette

If you have been playing doujin games like me and you think of a Megaman style-doujin game, the first thing that will probably come to mind is MegaMari. (A Megaman-style doujin game by Twilight Frontier. It features Touhou characters and it is hard as hell! I'll talk about it some other time.) Well there are other doujin games that also used the same template as Megaman but they are not that popular. In this post, I will talk about another popular Megaman-style doujin game, RosenKreuzStilette.

RosenKreuzStilette is the first, and currently only, game created by up-and-coming doujin developer, [erka:es]. Like MegaMari, this game is played exactly like the Megaman games, however, its setting and cast is completely original.

Story: (Taken from Rockman Perfect Memories. RPM is a site dedicated to Megaman games and other games similar to it.)

The game's story tells that, thousands of years ago, humans were gifted with a special magic called "Magi". As years passed, however, the humans eventually lost that ability and only few were born with such a gift. Those born with such a gift, however, ended up with a life of being feared, hated, and persecuted by the Holy empire and Orthodox church. The Magi users decided to stand up to the empire and fought a holy war with them. This war ultimately resulted in the Holy empire accepting the Magi users as part of their fighting force, erka:es, which never forgot the persecution of the Magi users, although it seemed like a thing of the past.

Decades later, young Spiritia Rosenberg, aided by her fairy friend Lilli, returns home to be welcomed back home by Iris Sepperin, the biological daughter of the leader of erka:es, Graf Michael Sepperin. Suddenly, a dragon appears and makes off with her, leaving her pendant behind, and Lilli, frightened, runs away. Then suddenly, the whole place comes under attack, and Spiritia rushes off to attempt to prevent the attack. She finds Lilli, and then encounters Freudia Neuwahl, and finds out from her that Tia's friends, including Freudia, are waging a holy war in belief that it is their right to use their power to claim dominance and end their persecution forever. Not one to agree with their way of doing things, Spiritia, aided by Lilli, decides to get to the bottom of their sudden madness.
----------
In my opinion, RosenKreuzStilette's story is pretty good for doujin standards. They even deliver some weighty issues like discrimination. This is really a departure from the "fan fiction in game form" that doujin games are known for.

Controls:
The controls are tight just like what you would expect if you play a Megaman game:

Z = Jump
X = Shoot
A and S = Scroll through your acquired weapons.
Enter = Displays the weapons menu.
Space Bar = Pauses the game.
Left and Right arrow keys = Moves Spiritia in the direction pressed.
Down arrow key + Z = Makes Spiritia slide.

Game Features:
RosenKreuzStilette has 2 modes: Story Mode and Arcade Mode. There is nothing different in terms of difficulty in both modes. In Story Mode, there is always a text conversion between Spiritia and the boss you are fighting with before and after the battle. In Arcade Mode, you just breeze through everything; Get through the stage, fight the boss, acquire the boss' ability and choose another stage. No conversations whatsoever.

You can save replays in this game. While it is a nice feature, I don't have any practical use for it except take screenshots.

After you beat the game, you will be shown a code that you should input at the game's title screen. By inputting the code, you will now be playing Grolla Mode. Instead of Spiritia, you will now play as Grolla Sayfarth (She is one of the 8 bosses that Spiritia faces in the game.) who plays just like Zero from the Megaman X series. More on this later.

This game uses a password system very reminiscent to the old Megaman games.

Just like in any Megaman game, you will fight of 8 bosses and acquire their abilities before fighting of the main villain of the story.

Characters:

Spiritia Rosenberg - The main heroine in the game. Her friends call her Tia for short.

Lilli - Spiritia's fairy companion. By getting a secret item in the game, you can summon her and make her attack enemies just like Beat from Megaman.

Freudia Neuwahl - The game's "ice boss". She is my favorite character in the game. You fight her three times in the game. (During Prologue, in her stage, and a copy of her near the end of the game.) She is so cool, (No pun intended.) she has her own boss theme when you fight her for the second time. She will also be the main heroine in RosenKreuzStilette Fruedenstatchel, which will be released in Summer 2009.

Zorne Sepperin - She attacks you with bombs that explode like bombs from Bomberman. Wears a metal arm/gauntlet that has no use and is probably just for show.

Trauare Wrede - The game's "water boss". Uses a spear in battle. She's sexy. (That's all that needs to be said.)

Luste Teuber - A loli demon girl that barely wears anything. I really like her stage theme. It's a good theme for a sky stage.

Grolla Sayfarth - A girl that wields a huge sword in battle. By inputting a code during the title screen, you can play as her. She plays like Zero from the Megaman X series.

Sichte Meister - A busty woman that has the ability to manipulate time. Also attacks with knives. I have been wondering about this for a while now. Why is it that knives are the weapon of choice of characters that have time manipulation abilities?

Liebea Palesch - A girl that can call down deadly rain. (Oh, scary!) She cries when she kills you. Poor girl.

Schwer-Muta Casasola Merkle - The game's "shield boss". She is really weird. Her pet squid spits out ink that can temporarily blind you. Her stage is my favorite stage among all the boss stages. Its like a fun house with some parodies. Can provide a good laugh but sometimes at the cost of 1 life.

Grolla Mode:
By inputting a code in the title screen you can play as Grolla Sayfarth. She plays like Zero from Megaman X. She plays differently from Spiritia in that she attacks at close range and she has additional moves that can aid her in traversing the stages. She can dash (She can jump farther because of the dash.) and she can wall climb. The down side is she takes twice as much damage than Spiritia and she cannot learn abilities from bosses. This is way, way harder than when you use Spiritia! I haven't beaten this mode yet! This will really test your skills in this game.

Comparison Between Spiritia and Grolla's Game Mode:
Spiritia's game mode is good for casual players and people like me who are not good at Megaman games. The game is very generous with the Energy Tanks. That's not saying that the game is too easy. There is still some challenge to be had. Heck, I died a lot during my first play through. It's all about memorizing the flow of the stage, getting through the stage hazards, and knowing and exploiting the bosses' weakness.

Grolla's game mode is for the hardcore Megaman player or if you want a good challenge. (Or if you think Spiritia's game mode is too easy.) This mode is so hard for me! The Energy Tanks that you took for granted in Spiritia's game will become a necessity and sometimes you will feel that there are not enough Energy Tanks. (You can only carry a maximum of 9 Energy Tanks.) You take twice the amount of damage than when you play as Spiritia. Since you can't obtain abilities from defeating a boss, you can't exploit any weaknesses. You fight at close range, which is a very dangerous position to be in since all of your opponents fight you with projectiles. It's just so hard! I haven't beaten it yet. Not that I'm saying that it is impossible. It can be done. (I have seen a play through of someone playing Grolla Mode (From beginning to end.) and he did not die once.)

Other Things Worth Mentioning:
The music of the game is one of the best I have heard in comparison to all the doujin games that I have ever played. There are lots of memorable themes in the whole game. (Luste's stage theme, Liebea's stage theme, Sepperin Stage 1 theme... there are just so many to mention.) The stage designs are pretty well made too. (I'll show it to you but the forums has a 10 images limit for each post. I'll just post another one for screenshots.)

In conclusion, this is a pretty awesome doujin game. It is worth playing. And yes, I can't wait for RosenKreuzStilette Fruedenstatchel to come out.

I know that I will be asked where I got this so here: Amit Dabydeen's Doujin Games Page (There are a lot of doujin games here but some of them don't work.)
