I enjoyed the video, and the production quality… and the song is pretty good, too! Give it a listen. It’s much longer than a normal music video, because the song is baked into the story. I’d like to see this group enter their video in the next Orlando Comedy Video Sketch Fest on October 14th at the Gallery at Avalon Island.

Jessica’s show at Taste is her first solo show, and the entire show depicts mothers, girls grappling with the state of being a mother, and the fact that they are able to become mothers.

While communities across the nation seek new ways to generate local economic development and job growth without spending millions of dollars, St. Cloud and Osceola County took a big step forward recently with the formal dedication of the new UCF Business Incubator-St. Cloud facility at 3201 Budinger Ave. in St Cloud.

Gordon Hogan, director of operations for the UCF Business Incubation Program, said the launch of the new 14,000 square foot facility marks a new era of economic development activity in Osceola County.

Four incubation client companies are locating offices in the new facility immediately, Hogan said, and the UCF Business Incubation Program expects to name a full time site manager in less than 30 days. Eventually, the UCF Business Incubator-St. Cloud could accommodate as many as 20 client companies.

Business incubators rank among the most cost-effective ways to generate sustainable local economic growth. Since 1999, the UCF Business Incubation Program has helped more than 140 emerging companies generate more than $800 million in annual revenues and more than 1,600 new jobs with an average salary of $59,000.

Research has shown that 87 percent of incubator graduates are still in business five years after graduating from an incubation program, said UCF’s Business Incubation Program Founder Dr. Tom O’Neal.

“The UCF Business Incubator-St. Cloud will provide a wide range of services to accelerate the growth of promising young companies so they can play a greater role in economic expansion in the local area,” Hogan explained.

The UCF Business Incubation Program currently supports nearly 90 client companies, Hogan said, and ranks as one of the premier university-based incubation programs in the U.S.

“St. Cloud is very excited to have one of the premiere incubation programs in the country in St. Cloud. The UCF Business Incubator-St. Cloud will not only assist in growing our own companies, but will help to achieve the long-time goal of diversification in the local job markets and the overall economy,” said Ernie Gearhart, Economic Development Consultant for the City of St. Cloud.

The St. Cloud incubator facility is one of eight in the University of Central Florida’s Business Incubation program. Additional incubator facilities are located at UCF Campus, Research Park in east Orlando, and in Orlando, Sanford, Winter Springs and Leesburg.

Curious about the lineup of this band, I dug a bit and discovered a link to Hannah, Brian Feldman’s wife, who he married for artistic and political reasons last week.

All the right video clips, all the WRONG edits, effects, and titles. I seriously want to barf right now.

Give ANYONE with 3 ounces of talent access to your video library – there are some really great things in there, I’m sure, and you must have spent so much money capturing and acquiring all of that footage (or someone did), why would you then let a 3-year-old with a mouse and keyboard near it?

I apologize to the person who did the editing – you may have just been following orders, but they were BAD orders.

Jessica then went on to perform several pieces with a Mr. Brian Feldman, of wide renown in Orlando for his outdoor, public, time-based performance art. I also saw Jessica’s piece titled “I want your sympathy” at the Orlando Museum of Art’s First Thursdays, and I participated in her outdoor gallery event , “Blunder Bungle”, held at the aptly named “Museum of my Neighbor’s Backyard”.

Jessica also caught my attention when she signed up for twitter for exactly one day. Then, the 10,000th day she was alive, she paraded from her home to local hangout Stardust Video & Coffee in a parade of one, which was 10,000 steps long.

This video seems to be starring Jessica, though I don’t know who shot and edited the piece. The YouTube page for the piece says it’s a music video for a Chicago-based artist named Maigin Blank.

Chris Zabriskie is a good friend of mine, and a damn fine filmmaker. This month, he put together a little video with some amazing stuff from the hit TV show LOST.

I saw this on a blog Chris co-writes for called Retro Low Fi (full disclosure, Marc from RLF and I do a podcast called Pop Means Cuddle, I used to be in his band).

As of right now, this video has 226,005 views and counting. Way to go, Chris.

59 times out of 60, Orlando Video highlights a clip made right here in Sunny Floria, but today I must give props to two gentleman more talented and dedicated than myself at showing off cool videos. Their names are Jim Kirk and Chuck Baker, and their talent produces many podcasts, one of which is The Clip Show. I really have to hand it to them for following the KISS methodology and just keeping things super-simple. The show within the show that you see The Heap, actually gets it’s own web site and feed, because they write and produce things that last 2 to 10 minutes and just get it over with.

This particular episode of the Clip Show doesn’t follow the familiar format, where they rate video podcasts on the C.O.G.D.N. Rating System, which is a modest scale of 1 to 13 COGDN, 13 being knock your socks off amazing. In fact, the reason why I linked to this episode is to direct you readers to 13 shows you should really check out, a great sampling of video podcasts. Add these 13 shows to your iTunes / Miro / FireAnt player, or visit each web site individually each week and get a cramp in your hand from all the clicking like I know so many of you do, but give all of these shows an equal chance.

I’ve been reading the Graphics Technology program’s blog from Valencia Community College for as long as it’s existed, I think. The best part is: it’s an interesting read! There are always students winning awards, getting jobs and the like, and now there are videos, too!

Tough love is necessary sometimes…

CentralFloridaNews.TV – I have met Chaz Yorick and seen him perform poetry to a decent degree, but these initial videos are not his strong suit.

Here’s some free advice – for anyone posting lots of videos to the web – do post your videos to YouTube, but on your web site post higher-quality vids from Viddler, Blip.TV or Revver – all three of these allow for contextual ads in the video, and their playback quality and video players are much better. A service like TubeMogul can help you post and tag the video on multiple sites, as well as tracking the number of viewers you get.

More free advice – as much as I love “A Comic Shop” and the plan for what they announced for their MegaCon booth, as a producer, you need to understand when your interview subject is as exciting as a wet noodle and you need to read the copy yourself. We made that mistake on the TASTE video and paid the price.

You can catch Chaz any Wednesday night hosting the poetry open mic at Austin’s Coffee. Also this weekend at MegaCon. Something about live streaming, but it doesn’t really say where or by what method…? Twitter – something called College Boys Live that looks like a Justin.TV thing. Not too sure what zombies and comic books have to do with college boys streaming 24/7 on the internet, but it will make my google ads more interesting for a few weeks, yes?

Update: According to the announcement made in this video, he and some folks will be streaming live from MegaCon this weekend via the Justin.tv service. I’m watching a little of it right now – people eating lunch. I like that someone is doing the live streaming thing from Orlando. Props.

Update 2: I had my doubts about this project earlier this week, but after watching the live stream at MegaCon, I see that you not only get to watch them set up for the videos, but all the crazy folks walking around in costume is an experience like no other. I have only been to MegaCon once in the past, but this live stream lets me get just enough of it and remain immersed to make it fun.

Jason Hawkins is a winner. We’ve featured his SOLMI videos here before, and now he’s creating lots of video for other folks in town. I dig his motion graphics, camera work, and the way he (or his camera) captures color.

Also, props to Jason Seifer. Kissy face? Nice work, broseph.

On a very serious note, if you’re reading this blog, you should make plans to go to BarCampOrlando and do a presentation – if you’ve got short films, this is a great captive audience to show them in front of – 20 minute time slots. If you do a podcast or vlog, work in television, motion graphics, design, or anything of the sort, the second day in particular will be of interest to you and you should really sign up to present. As I said on my blog about BarCamp:

I’m recruiting presenters and attendees for the New Media Day. Be there, bring your A-game. (your B-game is equally welcome)

At the last event, I think everyone’s understanding that there were going to be some crazy awesome presentations as well as some mediocre ones was not very solid. I spoke to a few people who presented and said “I thought I was going to be all by myself in a room with like 5 guys all scratching their chins, but I was SO wrong”, the other half of them said “I thought about presenting, but I didn’t think I was ‘good enough’, but then I saw it was just a bunch of guys like me, so I’m going to blow them all out of the water this time”.

Really, those are you only two options. You should have either presented at last year’s BarCamp, or decided that you were definitely presenting at the next one. If you weren’t there, then take my word for it and create a presentation. Really.

blissink is a ‘zine writer, designer and a father. The last role is important because I think his kids are doing the voices on this video. According to my friend Aleshia:

It’s interesting though, because it’s not explicit, but it is very violent. We’re no stranger to desktop theatre here, and the Robot Chicken Generation is certainly blossoming through YouTube and other video sharing sites.

It appears blissink is doing a series of these Star Wars/LEGO videos. Under the banner of blissink, he’s also acted as a designer for the ELLA Music Festival, which we here at Liberatr had a bit to do with.

Skull Kingdom,one of Orlando Florida’s Landmark Attractions on International Drive. It was a Year-Round Walk-through Haunted House for about 10 years, A Giant Castle with a Skull on the front. They started demolition on Friday,27th July 2007 and will be finished by the end of Saturday the 28th. They started with the iconic Skull Facade, which seemed solid for the years came down like 2 kids attacking a pinyata with chainsaws.

This video is the first in a series, including several from the auction of the interior props and accessories from Skull Kingdom. Robert, who recorded this video, also goes by Bunny, and he performs with the Rich Weirdoes, our own local Rocky Horror cast, at Universal CityWalk’s megaplex theatre.

I also know Bunny does an evening over at Stardust where he dresses up like Groucho Marx and reads poetry. I’ve at least seen it happen once. If I find out any more info about this, come back to this post for dates or links.

I think Brian and Meagan are fantastic on camera (even if I miss the sexual tension from the LOFTS), and I often wonder if Brian has taken improv classes in his past. Their storytelling is awesome, but the critic in me is asking for more Laugh-Out-Loud moments. This is a question of writing, and not meant to take away from the quality of everything else in this video. I’d love to see a list of locations for this short – it feels like there are about 20. Props to Jason and the crew on having some great sound and camera work as well.

I believe Mark Baratelli and his Improv Cabaret act need no introduction to readers of this revlog. View posts tagged with markbaratelli here to get some history (please note that some of those videos are about Mark, not created by him).

Mark recently took his 45-minute, fully improvised one-man musical to the New York City Fringe Festival. From the looks of it by this video, he rocked the house. Improv Cabaret got some good reviews in New York, and I know Mark really loves performing. He’s a multidimensional guy with a lot going for him. At this moment he’s rehearsing for the national tour of Irving Berlin’s I Love a Piano, and it’s a shame they’re only passing through Florida.

This is a very interesting ad, but they could have hired someone with a camera that was manufactured after 1982, and then a video editor who knows how to cut things down to one minute or less. There was too much copy and too much footage for one commercial here. I would have even accepted two commercials, but if you can’t sell them with the first video, you need to start again.

Kristian Truelsen is a talented actor and director who’s since left Orlando for the cooler climate in Toronto. Film fans might remember him as a guy whose town got burned by the British army in The Patriot, or as a teacher (I think) in My Girl. If you watched Nickelodeon during the “Snick” era, you might recognize him from a show called Welcome Freshmen. See his full film and television exploits on IMDB, for his theatre credits, headshots, and resume, check his professional website.

TRUTH is an ad campaign that started out as being local to the state of Florida, but was so successful it went national. They even mention it in a book I’ve been reading this year called Punk Marketing. Once the campaign went national, apparently there were two sets of ads being produced, and this ad was produced for Florida, but never made it nationally.

Two versions were made of this spot; a 60-second edit for TV, and this full, 2-minute version which was shown in movie theatres. Everyone thought it was such a good commercial that it would have to go national, but it never happened. Those of us bitter about that believe the national campaign people were probably too protective of their own work to allow this ad to air outside of Florida, even if it was for the same cause. It was shown once on “The Best Commercials You’ve Never Seen.”

By the way, everyone in the ad is lip-synching to a music track that was recorded before any of us were hired. So that’s my voice speaking, but not singing. (We tried to get the producers to let us re-record the song; nuh-uh.) This is also the job that injured my knees, leaving me proud of the work but with pain that exists to this very day.

Once, again, Fantacine proves their cinematography is gorgeous. I’ve still never met these folks, but I’m hoping I can get them to come out to a future Florida Creatives Happy Hour. We’ve certainly revlogged them here before.

Their work certainly gets around. They have screenings of The Lonely Lights. The Color of Lemons. and The World, Naked as a Jaybird coming up at festival this summer, but film in Florida is more of a Spring or Autumn affair, since we still have nice weather, I guess.

When I first went to revlog this video, I wasn’t really sure what I could say other than “I’m so glad this came out of Orlando”. Since that time I’ve come to know and love Denna and Joey, AKA P-Sha Productions. It is my understanding that they were asked to create this announcement for work. The process of making the video has turned into a process that works for all of their videos, as you’ll see shortly.

The main rule with a P-Sha video is that all materials must come from the desk where Joey and Denna work if at all possible. Because of this, it creates a feeling like that created by G-Mail Theatre (but I know Denna hadn’t seen these videos until I showed them to her) or more simply a children’s tabletop puppet show. Around the same time as the Broadway Across America video, they were asked to do a video for Mark Baratelli’s Improv Cabaret, which we have definitely revlogged in the past.

Another notable video is the Arranging Pixels Theatre, done in the same style as the first two. This one is an ad for an IT company, starring Ken Granger, technology super hero.

Grandma Party was yesterday, and for those of you who missed it, you should be ashamed. Jason Hawkins and Meagan Fisher over at SOLMI put together a cool video about Grandma Party. We’ve mentioned this group before for their online serial the LOFTS. In addition to their fictional work and short films, they have also started doing event videos like this one. Mark has now set a new path for himself – Broadway! Bright lights, the Big Apple, Chinese food, 5th Avenue, the 24 hour Apple store and so much more. Every day Mark has been posting a video of his audition on his blog. Yesterday’s vlog was a great (and fun) example of Mark’s work, so I am sharing this one here. If you like what you see, go subscribe.

In each video, Mark attempts to give us a glimpse of his experience auditioning for shows – musicals, mostly. He gives an introduction, shows us the room outside the audition space, and then sets down his cell phone on the stage to record the performance (I think). In this video, Mark got a callback, so I would consider that success. In sales, if you make 20 calls and 4 callbacks, you’re having a good sales day. Let’s hope Mark can grab a better ratio than that in NYC.

With a live band in residence each Saturday the Street Artists of Fairhope do their thing – and they do it well, might I add. I didn’t find much about Deeb except a webpage with some gorgeous videos. The last one on the list was a particularly well photographed trailer for a short film called The History of Pennsylvania, created by a local filmmaker named Ryan of 45 Year Old Productions (try myspace, the site is “under construction”). They have some videos linked there, as well as on Ryan’s YouTube page. There’s not too much information about Ryan, Deeb or 45 Year Old that I could find, but I’m sure that with a portfolio like this, we’ll be seeing more from them.

I have been aware of Jonathan (AKA Pandos) and his work since at least the 2006 Grandma Party. He walked up to us at our blanket and handed us some CDs with very pretty packaging and fun electronic music on them. For whatever reason, I lost those CDs in a box of stuff I didn’t open until I moved in October, when I found them and was pleased by the “B4RSK1LZ” and reminded of the kind guy who handed them to me. Two of the discs were actually blank according to my computer, but one was called “Orange” and came in orange packaging with hand-draw artwork, a linen front and some painted bits of what I think is upholstery samples.

I recently had the pleasure of watching a live Pandos performance at Austin’s Coffee. There is no way I can describe his work to you and have it make sense – even the video clip above does not do him justice.

Pandos is an exercise in found audio and video, or it at least seems that way. Jonathan appears to have compiled several hours of video of very interesting things in order to make a composite work. He takes three old television sets and three VCRs with about 20 VHS tapes and proceeds to play them in overlapping patterns that create an impossible to recreate live performance of sight and sound. Even the on-screen display for the VCRs, like “PLAY” and “STOP” and up contributing to the final composition.

The digital video and audio by Pandos clearly stems from the same place. Electronic, but still melodic, again using found clips (like a Mr. Spell, or the Spice Girls “Wannabe” for example). Jonathan referred to himself as a VJ, but he certainly has an ear for composition, as “Are you a dreamer?” demonstrates.

I know about MicheLee Puppets, Tracey Conner, the Extreme Health Challenge, and MC Rico B. Kuhl because of my good friend Becky Lane. I believe MicheLee is the first non-profit organization we have featured here on Orlando Video, but I may be wrong (see Assembly). According to their PDF-only fact sheet from the site, they provide presentations on divorce, bullying, child abuse, healthy lifestyles (hence the drinking water), literacy and sexual assault prevention.

I Drinky Water is one of five commercials used to reinforce the messages from the wacky hit production of EXTREME Health Challenge, a show that empowers kids to eat right and get moving. Sit back, enjoy the video, and pass the link on to your friends to share.

Um, wow… I guess principals and teachers like to see stuff like that. However, I did receive this submission via email to the liberatr [at] gmail DOT com, so I am more or less obligated to share it with you.

From what I understand, the Extreme Health Challenge begins with a live show in the school auditorium or gym and is aimed at elementary age kids, I suppose from 1st to 5th grade. Different ages probably get into different parts of the show. From what I understand, Fuschia (Becky) interacts with a number of puppet characters in a 40-minute-long show that encourages (or challenges?) kids to practice a healthy lifestyle. The other videos I have seen involve getting a good night’s sleep before a test (especially FCAT) and other fun stuff a-la early JetSet Show.

I don’t know why these videos haven’t been on YouTube since last summer when they were produced, since the entire audience MicheLee is going after with ExHC uses YouTube as their primary form of entertainment. It’s not like puppet music videos or encouraging kids to be healthy through music and pageantry wasn’t invented… oh… thousands of years ago. Plus, Sesame Street has a whole series of videos about being healthy, which I hope has the “We Just Love to Brush Our Teeth” song.

Actually I love this video. No, really. If you’ve got puppet stuff, send it my way. For a while I considered doing an all-puppet blog, but I think video from Orlando is small enough in scope… I’ll leave the puppet blogging to the puppeteers for now.

This post is a bit of a cross-over with another site of mine, Blogging Fringe. It is relevant because it fits into both sites so neatly. Here is a local comedian with a show in the Fringe Festival working hardcore to promote his show with video.

Dewey Chaffee has been performing comedy for fifteen years. His brand of comedy is honest, charming, and hilariously insightful. Dewey is based in Orlando, Florida, which has been his home for the past twenty-five years. He spends his time writing, performing improv comedy and booking gigs all over the country as a professional “Ace Ventura” celebrity impersonator.

Linwood Sassy is a one of those guys that you just have to admire for all the spice and pep he still has at his rapidly advancing age. Linwood and Dewey have started releasing a series of videos which I’m sure will grow in number in the weeks leading up to May 17th and the start of the Orlando Fringe. Honestly, I think if Linwood ever sees this post he might sue me, make me shave my head, stuff peanut butter in my socks or do one of those pranks with a bucket of water over the door and be hiding just out of sight with Dewey filming the whole thing so they can put it on YouTube. I wouldn’t put it past the old codger.

Then of course there is the whole meta-YouTube aspect of Dewey. One YouTuber named DISnut has created a whole series of vlogs featuring characters from Disney/MGM’s Streetmospheres – this is one of my top 10 favorite things about Disney – I really love the level of interactivity you get from engaging a live performer. Bing Futch presents video from J.O.B. Entertainment, including mountain dulcimer lessons, short films, music videos and stuff from the archives. I am maker of music, a shooter of video and a writer of words. When the three of them combine, it makes for happy times!

I first heard about Bing Futch through his All Florida Indies music podcast — he’s one of the only people I know of locally who’s been podcasting longer than me. He also now has a video podcast about playing the dulcimer. Bing sent in this video to me and told me it got some decent traffic on YouTube.

I’ve never met the guy, but I have to say I am impressed by his wide range of creative endeavors. One might ask “What does this guy do for a living?” I think it is more of the same. His website leads me to believe that J.O.B. Entertainment is Bing Futch’s bread and butter. If you’re out there man, let’s get together sometime.

LOFTS is a Reality TV show about two roommates (and a cameraman?) who get trapped in their apartment. This first episode explains how the whole fiasco got started, and you can view the rest of the story at SOLMI.Net. A simple iTunes search reveals Podcast: The Series, and MySpace is pretty easy to find as well. It would appear they haven’t posted any new videos in a while, but perhaps you can account that to college students on winter break. If you want to see more from them, I suggest you go to their site and bug them with emails and comments.

I met Jason and Meagan at the latest Florida Creatives Happy Hour, and I talked to them briefly, but I didn’t realize who they were and what they were doing until I started poking through the contact list today. If these folks keep experimenting, filming and otherwise being funny, we can actually start claiming that Orlando has pop-quality video podcasters in town. Watch out, New York and the West Coast! Orlando’s gunning for ya! Ask a Ninja? How about TV’s Tom Selleck? He’s got a freakin’ sword!

This is the second appearance for Fantacine here on Orlando Video. This collective has produced some quality work, and Texas, Georgia and Florida have seen fit to honor them for their work, according to their web site. The director of this film is a one Benjamin M Piety, who also directed the Heathens’ music video I mentioned earlier.

This trailer makes me think of the long string of, well, “emo” films that have been sweeping out country in the last few years – Eternal Sunshine, Garden State, or locally produced The Last Romantic, the movie that launched Band Marino to local stardom, or the movie that Band Marino launched to local stardom, or maybe they were working in chorus. Still, this film appears to look beautiful, even if I have no idea what it’s about, I’d like to see it. Maybe they will get in to Florida Film Fest, so we can all see what’s up…

What can be said about Lady Raptastic? She does a weekly podcast and a more frequent blog with topics ranging across the board, from fashion to food, celebreties to cinema. I know she has ties to Orlando because Mark Baratelli is (I believe) a producer of the show. You can see previous coverage of Mark Baratelli on Liberatr.net.

I recently saw this video that Lady posted on her blog, and I was inspired to share the message here on the blog. Monkey suicide is the next Project[RED]. Maybe Project[POO]? What do you think? Or instead of LIVESTRONG, maybe LOVEBANANAS.
