I've heard good buzz about this one-drag-queen cabaret called "Mitzi Morris: New Girl in Town." It was playing earlier in the year and now its back tonight at 6pm at the Parliament House (410 N Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32805). Its also playing November 15 and 22, 2009.

I took a long walk in Sacramento in January 11, 2009 and came across this farmers market out of nowhere... underneath an overpass. There are spots underneath I-4 in downtown that are perfect for this sort of thing. Maybe Parramore Farmers Market can happen there.

Heather Allebaugh from the City of Orlando left a comment on the post where I was asking "Why is there no Parramore Farmers Market?". I don't have an answer to the question yet, but Allebaugh did hint at an upcoming event:

"The neighborhood is working on a fall harvest share at the Parramore Community Garden. Details and dates are still being finalized."

Sounds like a possible sort-of farmers market to me. She said she'd email me when she has the date/time/place info. As soon as she gets it to me, I'll share it with you. And speaking of the Parramore Community Garden, go check it out. Its a fenced garden maintained by the citizens of Parramore. On August 5, 2009, TheDailyCity.com Mobile Art #1 tried to bring attention to it by making it stop five on the day-long, seven-stop art show on wheels. We need more community gardens like the one in Parramore because (a) they get fresh veggies into the hands of city folk, (b) they turn blighted property into something fantastic and (c) Bette Midler likes them. People of Public Transportation was founded in October 2009 and describes itself as this: "The public bus and subway systems are littered with amazing photo opportunities. I'm becoming a fan of Orlando Fashion Square Marketing Director Chris Ackerman. He's clearly taking a difficult position (dragging bodies into a dead mall) and making the most of it. Not only is he using twitter successfully for them most part, he's producing live events that seem to touch on a need in the community. Kudos to Ackerman and whoever hired him. Now how soon before there's an "Orlando Fashion Square Mall Farmers Market"? I kid, I kid.

Orlando is Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity territory apparently

Sarah Palin is making a stop in Orlando, Florida on her book tour for "Going Rogue." She's avoiding major cities, according to the Gainesville.com article, and going instead where she feels "her fans are" and where "she'll sell more books." No date has been set. Oh and remember too, tickets for the Sean Hannity Freedom concert went on sale November 1, 2009. Go Orlando!

Orlando among 27 cities being considered for FIFA World Cup Soccer tournament... for $12 million dollars

Mayor Dyer's plan to place Orlando as a contender for the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup Soccer Finals will cost between $12-14 million, but when asked where the money will come from, he says its too early for details and that they won't need that money until 2018. But the plan was put into motion by the City Council. The US has not even been chosen as the host country, but its prepping: Orlando is one of 27 host cities being considered.

The Color Purple is in town all week playing at the Bob Carr (401 W Livingston St., Orlando, FL 32801) and we were lucky enough to receive invites to opening night and to the cast party. We sent Chris L. to both and this is what he had to say:

"The show was beautiful. Top notch performances (including the special treat of Felicia P. Fields reprising her Tony-nominated performance as Sofia!) I was excited to see Brandy Chavonne Massey's name on the board, but realized she was the Celie understudy (and that's it - no chorus role in the meanwhile.) But damn, Kenita Miller was amazing as Celie!

Ms. Fields gave a post-show curtain speech to promote the cast's charity, The St. Bernard Project, which rebuilds houses for Katrina victims. (They've built 16 so far, at a cost of $12-15K per house.) They have volunteers standing by ready to build, they just need more money to pay for materials. As I surveyed the crowd, I realized that less than $10 per person in attendance would pay for one house. "
