What a impresive place to be. Such a natural place full off green. Sure you'll feel fresh at there. It was about 150years already.
The Gardens at its present site was founded in 1859 by an Agri-Horticultural Society. Planned as a leisure garden and ornamental park, the Society organised flower shows and horticultural fetes. In 1874, the Society handed over management and maintenance of the site to the government. The scientific mission of the Gardens evolved when the colonial government assumed management and deployed Kew-trained botanists and horticulturists to administer the Gardens.

Most interesting area is their National Orchid Garden. Plenty type of it you can find there. The way they decorate and plant very suprising.

ORCHIDS IN BLOOM FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Orchids bloom most profusely in the fall through winter months. Now is the perfect time to prepare your mature healthy plants to bloom, but you only have a few weeks! What's the secret? Most orchid species in the wild depend on a day and night temperature variation of about 10 degrees to stimulate them to bloom. The orchids we grow are no different.

As night temperatures drop, simply place your plants close to a window that is cracked at night, to let in a little cool air. Give your plants this treatment for about 3 to 4 weeks and you should begin to see flower stalks emerging soon after that. This works very well with healthy phalaenopsis. How low should you let the night temperature drop? For cooler growing paphs, phals, and cattleyas, temperatures of about 55 to 60 degrees should suffice. Make sure your plants are not in a cold draft, and protect them with a light curtain if needed
Placing your orchid plants in an unheated room at night will also do the trick. Remember that day temperatures also need to be at least ten degrees higher. If your orchid plants have been growing outside this summer, you can simply leave them out for a few more weeks. If temperatures threaten to fall below 55, all but the coolest growing of orchids, such as cymbidium species and hybrids, should be brought in. Your plants must be healthy, and well care for to respond this treatment- if a plant has just flowered, don't expect it to bloom again right away. This method generally works best with orchids that have their natural flowering season in the fall through spring months, including most phalaenopsis (moth orchids), paphiopedilum or paphs (slipper orchids) and nobile type dendrobiums such as Dawn Maree hybrids. Give it a try and you may be surprised when that reluctant orchid finally puts on a dazzling floral display.

Beginners are often frustrated by a seemingly healthy plant that won't to bloom. We'll tell you how to re-bloom your orchids, especially paphiopedilums (slippers), phalaenopsis (moth orchids), oncidiums and dendrobiums (phalenopsis types). Don't worry if you don't recognize the names-our tips cover the majority of orchids easily available.

I will assume that your plants are healthy with lots of new leafy green growths and good roots. If you don't have a healthy plant, don't expect it to flower! Sometimes weak plants, such as moth orchids will bloom prolifically, but this will be their swan song and they will die soon after. If you're not getting blooms AND your plants are healthy, read on..

Here are the main reasons orchid will not bloom and what you can do about it. One or more reasons may apply to you:

#1. GIVE YOUR ORCHIDS ENOUGH LIGHT Most flowering houseplants, orchids included, will not bloom if they are not getting enough light. This is generally the main reason that orchids do not bloom. Northern exposure is usually not sufficient. A bright western, slightly shaded in the hottest months, or eastern exposure work well. A southern exposure gives you the greatest flexibility. If your window is heavily shaded by trees or adjacent buildings, this will reduce light to your plants and you will have to make adjustments accordingly. If you have bright indirect light, your phals and paphs should do fine. Oncidiums generally need slightly brighter light. Dendrobiums and Cattleyas need the brightest light of alll, and do best in a Southern exposure.

Potinara Hoku Gem ( Slc. Tangerine Jewel x Bl. Richard Mueller) is truly a perfect compact cattleya for the home hobbyist. A resilient and rapidly growing plant, it rewards the grower with spotted yellow blooms several times a year, on multiple growths.
It can begin blooming in a 2" pot and if given space, can grow to about 8" tall. It can also be maintained in a smaller pot by dividing, where it will continue to blooms quite happily. The plant pictured is grown in a 2.5" deep rose pot.

This orchid thrives in full bright light, even some dappled sunlight, and like to dry out slightly between watering. Fertilize it three times a month with an orchid plant food during the warmer months and less frequently in winter. Though these orchids do fine with drier air than most other orchids, try to provide at least 50% humidity. Night time temperatures of around 60 with daytime summer highs of 80 should suit them fine.

The plants can flower anytime during the year, producing starry-shaped blooms that open coral-pink and then fade to bright yellow over time, as shown in the photo to the left. Be sure to keep cattleyas moist when they are in bud or bloom. This is an easy and satisfying cattleya hybrid to grow.

Do you know how to define type of orchid? Here I have a simple explanation about it. It might useful to all of you.

Every types of orchid will have it own names. Had you notice some of it was written in italic and some of it was in normal letters. You will be surprise it was a standard. Let me explain you.

If you saw the orchid names written begin with capital letter and following with small letters, it was a species types. For example Phalaenopsis bellina.

For the hybrid or cross-bred type, it will written beginning with capital letters in every each of words. For example Bulbophyllum Meen Garuda.

I'll like to wrote and share one of my lovely hobby - Orchid plants. Green the earth build as digital notes from myself to all. There is people believe that orchid care is very tricky to keep, but the truth is that even novice plant keepers can reach great success as long as they chose the right orchids and are prepared to do some reading.

The orchid family is the largest family of flowering plants and there are over 20,000accepted species of orchid. The exact number varies depending on which classification system you use. The Royal Botanical Gardens of Kew in the United Kingdom lists 880 different genera and almost 22,000 species, and several hundred species are added each year. Since orchids are so tremendously popular in the floral trade, horticulturists have also created over 100,000 orchid hybrids and cultivars. -Green the earth with orchid.
