Wallet Issue -

Wallet Setup Error --- Could not open file ------/wallet/ewallet.p12

Navigation:

Payments Setup Administrator--> Payments Setup --> Shared Setup --> System Security Options --> Wallet Setup

Cause:

SYS_KEY_FILE_LOCATION and SYS_KEY_HASH in table IBY_SYS_SECURITY_OPTIONS

This above columns in the table has entries pointing to source instance after a Refresh / Clone..

Fix:

Null the two columns above

SQL> apps/apps

update the two columns to null and commit;

b)Re-try the creation.

You will get a Confirmation
Oracle Payments will create a wallet entry and passwordless wallet file to be used for encryption

RUP 12.1.2 Released

Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.2 RUP is released.
This Release Update Pack or maintenance pack can be installed only on 12.1 installation.

And is available as patchset 7303033 which is of size 3.2 GB in six parts.

CPU October 2009 (patch 8317877) is included in this release.

ICM startup errors

ICM log file shows these errors while startup.

This too has the same issue as in my previous post.

Services startup ...after a while..but the ICM log file shows errors.

So i tried with cmclean.sql which resolved the problem.

But the web Application services retain the problem,

I have a doubt that this is happening typically because of insufficient Hardware resources.

Because this doesn't happen in any other node, except this particular system.
Some extract from the ICM log file is as follows:

Errors while starting up services in R12

adstrtal.txt is showing these errors.

The services shown dont startup initially,
but on waiting for some time and checking again,
......
the three OC4J instances and so forms get started up..

This error crops up typically after a clone on the target instance.

To resolve the error, I tried editing the parameters in opmn.xml under INST_TOP,

oc4j_status, which was disabled earlier , now enabled it.
start_timeout , previously having value 600....changed to 1800.

Even then,errors show up in the startup log file.....though the services startup slowly.

Pinning Objects into Shared Pool

Why Pinning?
Apps needs more space in SGA for packages and functions.

If SGA is fragmented some of them may not get enough free space.

IF a package doesn't get contiguous free memory , Database will try to free the memory by deleting some objects using LRU algorithm……..

Even then, if it unable to get enough memory , then ORA-04031 error is thrown….

Set SGA_TARGET parameter to use Automatic shared Memory Management-----this resolves the error to some extent...

So……. Pinning objects into shared pool increases database performance to a great extent.

This is because , these pinned objects need not be loaded and parsed from database…….as they reside in the SQL and PL/SQL area of SGA.

NOTE : Care has to be taken while choosing which objects have to be pinned.
Generally, large and frequently used packages are pinned……….whereas pinning

Unnecessary or rarely used objects may degrade the DB performance.

To identify the objects to be pinned, we need to know which objects are executed more frequently.

This is done by running the script below……… which creates a ADXCKPIN.lst file---------- which is the list of objects in the shared pool.

$sqlplus system/password@AD_TOP/sql/ADXCKPIN.sql

Or Simply----

select owner,name,type,sharable_mem from v$db_object_cache where kept='YES';

And then do

SQL>
select * from x$ksmlru;

Gives current shared pool objects and the corresponding number of objects flushed out of the shared pool to allocate space.

Once you query the table, the database will reset the table.

How to pin?

Run the scripts ADXGNPIN.sql for packages and functions

and ADXGNPNS.sql for sequences…

$sqlplus sys/password@AD_TOP/sql/ADXGNPIN.sql APPS

This, by default, pins all objects under Apps Schema….so it is good to edit the script and pin the objects chosen….
Manually-----This can be done by executing a script…………..

SQL> exec dbms_shared_pool.keep('schema.object');

Using a defaults file

Why is it required?

While running adadmin / adctrl , instead of responding to prompts every time manually,

We can provide a file, called defaults file, with the answers for the prompts -----

Then Ad-utilities proceed without prompting for answers...

How to create a defaults file ??

Run adadmin as follows for the first time, which creates the defaults file

$ adadmin defaultsfile=$APPL_TOP/admin/SID/kkdefaults.txt

Select a Menu and perform a task.

Now the defaults file got created….

Using the defaults file------

Run adadmin non-interactively as follows------

$ adadmin interactive=n defaultsfile= $APPL_TOP/admin/SID/kkdefaults.txt logfile=xxxxx.log workers=8 menu_option=CHECK_DUAL

Restart a Failed Session in non-interactive mode------

Add ------->>>>> restart=y --------- to above commnad

This option restarts the previous session without asking you again…...

Common ORA Errors Faced

ORA:12154 TNS could not resolve Service Name

1) Check the listener, if it is started and listening or not.

2) Check that the instance or database name is being typed in correctly.

3)This is an issue with tnsnames.ora or listener.ora or sqlnet.ora.

Need to check with naming methods we are using and correct for those methods.

The entries for Alias Name with which we are trying to connect got to have same values,

Ie. for Hostname, Port number, Service Name or protocol used.

4) Or the issue might arise because of NIC Card or Network card settings.

The card might have got disabled.

If there are 2 NIC cards, then there might be a conflict with the hostname entries ,

ie. the card with which the database is installed and used might have been disabled.

The IP set for card and the entry in hosts file may get changed.

5) Sometimes if it is taking the localhost as the default entry for the card,

on the same systems where there is no IP set for the system.

Then the loopback address needs to be checked. The entry should be there in hosts file like

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist

1) The instance is actually trying to acquire the shared memory it is assigned and is unable to do the same.

ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID should be set correctly for this to be resolved.

2) The SGA parameters might have been edited and the instance is unable to get the new SGA size allocated.

Replace the original parameters and try again.

3) An abrupt shutdown of the database or the server might have happened,

by which the previous database session has not released the memory yet.

Shutdown the database gracefully, restart the server and try again.

ORA:01652 Unable to extend Temp Segment

This might be caused when TEMP tablespace is out of space. This happens when there is a sorting or any similar activity by a session.

Check the free space using

select sum(free_blocks)
from v$sort_segment
where tablespace_name = 'TEMP’

IF the result is 0,Then add a datafile to the TEMP tablespace

If it is found that there is free space available, then the reason is instance is unable to extend the segment.

Resize the tablespace and add space to it.

Increase sort_area_size and/or pga_aggregate_target using alter session command

Edit /etc/resolv.conf and the following lines:

In most Unix-like operating systems and others that implement the BIND Domain Name
System (DNS) resolver library, the resolv.conf configuration file contains information that
determines the operational parameters of the DNS resolver routines installed in the operating
system.

The DNS resolver allows a computer connected to a network to convert alpha-numeric
domain names into the numeric IP addresses that are required for access to resources on the
Internet or the local area network. The process of looking up IP addresses from domain
names is called resolving.

The resolv.conf file typically contains directives with the IP addresses of nameservers
available to a host.

resolv.conf is usually located in the /etc directory.

This file is another text file, used by the resolver a library that determines the IP address for a
host name. Following is a sample /etc/resolv.conf file:

nameserver 208.164.186.1
nameserver 208.164.186.2

Name servers are queried in the order they appear in the file primary, secondary.

If DNS is used for resolving hostnames, we recommend that the fully qualified
hostname,including the domain name extension, be included as an alias within the host
file for both external and virtual IP addresses. In addition, the following entries should be
added to the /etc/resolv.conf file to prevent DNS failures causing subsequent
interruptions to the Oracle Net service:

Why edit limits.conf ?

Edit /etc/security/limits.conf and add the following lines:

/etc/security/limits.conf:

Controlling resource usage can be very effective when trying to prevent a local Denial of
Service or restricting the maximum allowed logins for a group or user. However, too strict
settings will impede on your system's behavior and will result in program failures so make
sure that you check each setting first.

/etc/limits is very similar to the limit file /etc/security/limits.conf. The only difference is the
format and that it only works on users or wild cards (not groups). Let's have a look at a
sample configuration:

Here we set the default settings and a specific setting for the user kn. Limits are part of the
sys-apps/shadow package. It is not necessary to set any limits in this file if you have enabled
pam in /etc/make.conf.

You can protect against certain types of denial of service attacks by modifying
/etc/security/limits.conf. This file sets limits on system resources for each user. Since several
major daemons, including the web, name and ftp servers, may run as a particular user, this
has the effect of stopping many attacks against these applications from crippling the entire
machine. Further, many local DoS attacks should be defeated by this action.
Now lets open /etc/security/limits.conf...

Now what we're gonna do is limit how many processes a user may have/run, as well as limit
the maxium size of a file a user may have.

First we add these lines to restrict user processes to a specified amount given here.
# Limit user processes
* soft nproc 2047
* hard nproc 16384

Look above for at the beginning of /etc/security/limits.conf as to what this means.
Now we add the last line to restrict users from having a file over 40 megs in size.
# limits size of any one of users' files" /etc/security/limits.conf

SHMMAX

The SHMMAX parameter is used to define the maximum size (in bytes) for a

shared memory segment and should be set large enough for the largest SGA size.

If the SHMMAX is set incorrectly (too low), it is possible that the Oracle SGA

(which is held in shared segments) may be limited in size. An inadequate

SHMMAX setting would result in the following:

ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment

You can determine the value of SHMMAX by performing the following:

# cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax

33554432

As you can see from the output above, the default value for SHMMAX is 32MB.

This is often too small to configure the Oracle SGA. I generally set the SHMMAX

parameter to 2GB.

NOTE: With a 32-bit Linux operating system, the default maximum size of the SGA is 1.7GB.

This is the reason I often set the SHMMAX parameter to 2GB since it requires a larger value for SHMMAX.

On a 32-bit Linux operating system, without Physical Address Extension (PAE), the physical

memory is divided into a 3GB user space and a 1GB kernel space. It is therefore possible to

create a 2.7GB SGA, but you will need make several changes at the Linux operating system

level by changing the mapped base. In the case of a 2.7GB SGA, you would want to set the

SHMMAX parameter to 3GB.

This is method I use most often.

This method sets the SHMMAX on startup by inserting the

following kernel parameter in the /etc/sysctl.conf startup file:

# echo "kernel.shmmax=2147483648" >> /etc/sysctl.conf

•If you wanted to dynamically alter the value of SHMMAX without rebooting the machine, you

can make this change directly to the /proc file system. This command can be made

permanent by putting it into the /etc/rc.local startup file:

# echo "2147483648" > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax

•You can also use the sysctl command to change the value of SHMMAX:

# sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=2147483648

SHMMNI

We now look at the SHMMNI parameters. This kernel parameter is used to set the

maximum number of shared memory segments system wide. The default value for

this parameter is 4096. This value is sufficient and typically does not need to be

changed.

You can determine the value of SHMMNI by performing the following:

# cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmmni

4096

SHMALL

Finally, we look at the SHMALL shared memory kernel parameter. This parameter

controls the total amount of shared memory (in pages) that can be used at one

time on the system. In short, the value of this parameter should always be at least:

ceil(SHMMAX/PAGE_SIZE)

The default size of SHMALL is 2097152 and can be queried using the following

command:

# cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmall

2097152

From the above output, the total amount of shared memory (in bytes) that can be

used at one time on the system is:

SM = (SHMALL * PAGE_SIZE)

= 2097152 * 4096

= 8,589,934,592 bytes

The default setting for SHMALL should be adequate for our Oracle installation.

NOTE: The page size in Red Hat Linux on the i386 platform is 4096 bytes. You can, however,

use

bigpages which supports the configuration of larger memory page sizes.

fs.file-max

------------------

When configuring our Linux database server, it is critical to ensure that the maximum number

of file handles is large enough. The setting for file handles designate the number of open files

that you can have on the entire Linux system.

Use the following command to determine the maximum number of file handles for the entire

system:

# cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max

103062

Oracle recommends that the file handles for the entire system be set to at least 65536. In

most cases, the default for Red Hat Linux is 103062

This is method I use most often. This method sets the maximum number of file handles

(using the kernel parameter file-max) on startup by inserting the following kernel parameter in

the /etc/sysctl.conf startup file:

# echo "fs.file-max=65536" >> /etc/sysctl.conf

•If you wanted to dynamically alter the value of all semaphore kernel parameters without

rebooting the machine, you can make this change directly to the /proc file system. This

command can be made permanent by putting it into the /etc/rc.local startup file:

# echo "65536" > /proc/sys/fs/file-max

NOTE: It is also possible to query the current usage of file handles using the following

command:

# cat /proc/sys/fs/file-nr

1140 0 103062

In the above example output, here is an explanation of the three values from the file-nr

command:

•Total number of allocated file handles.

•Total number of file handles currently being used.

•Maximum number of file handles that can be allocated. This is essentially the value of filemax

- (see above).

NOTE: If you need to increase the value in /proc/sys/fs/file-max, then make sure that the

ulimit is set properly. Usually for 2.4.20 it is set to unlimited. Verify the ulimit setting my

issuing the ulimit command:

# ulimit

unlimited

net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range

--------------------------------------

The /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_local_port_range defines the local port range that is used by TCP

and UDP traffic to choose the local port. You will see in the parameters of this file two

numbers: The first number is the first local port allowed for TCP and UDP traffic on the server,

the second is the last local port number. For high-usage systems you may change its default

parameters to 32768-61000 -first-last.

The default setup for the ip_local_port_range parameters under Red Hat Linux is: "1024

4999"

To change the values of ip_local_port_range, type the following command on your terminal:

[root@deep] /# echo "32768 61000" >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_local_port_range

You must restart your network for the change to take effect.

[root@deep] /# /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart

kernel.msgmni

--------------------

msg queues I use message queue's to pass messages around. I use the same queue to

send and receive messages. This is actually very bad (now that I think about it), cause you

might fill up the queue, and cause a deadlock (hmm, that appears to be happening!). anyway

to increase the sizes put bigger sizes into

/proc/sys/kernel/msgmax

The max number of bytes per message (redhat 7.2 default = 8192)

/proc/sys/kernel/msgmnb

The total size of the queue. (redhat 7.2 default = 16384)

/proc/sys/kernel/msgmni

Number of messages. (redhat 7.2 default = 16)

Basically these low numbers make message queues pretty useless in a high traffic

application. Probably you can just up these numbers to be pretty large

msgmax: ( default 2048 )

The parameter "msgmax" is the maximum number of bytes that can be in

any one message. msgsnd() will give the error EINVAL if a message is

longer than this.

msgmnb: ( default 4096 )

The parameter "msgmnb" is the maximum number of message bytes that

can be on any one queue at a given time. If a message would cause a

queue to grow larger than this, that msgsnd() would either block

until space was available, or would give the error EAGAIN if user

specified non-blocking mode. For obvious reasons "msgmnb" must be at

least as large as "msgmax", however, it is probably good to set it to

some integral number of "msgmax." This way, a few messages of the

maximum size could be queued at any time. However, making "msgmnb"

too large compared to the total bytes available for messages (see

below) may allow one queue to hog the message system.

msgmni: ( default 50 )

The parameter "msgmni" is the number of message queue ids available

to the system. Each message queue requires one id. msgget() gives

the error ENOSPC if all the ids have been used up.

The highlighted part shows that the Profile options MO:Security Profile and MO:Operating Unit

need to be set correctly.

These profile options are being changed by some other user while testing.

On reverting to the relevant and appropriate values, everything went fine.

Deploying a New Forms formsapp.ear File

After applying CPU July 2009 for 12.0.6 instance,

it recommends to deploy a new formsapp.ear

The reason for this is-----

A Forms patch may contain changes to the Forms listener servlet code. If so, the patch will contain a new formsapp.ear file to update the J2EE Forms module.
To complete the patching process, this new formsapp.ear file must be deployed within the Forms OC4J container used with Oracle Applications.

This is how it is done in R12.

Set the env and stop all services.

Backup the present system-jazn-data.xml located at

$INST_TOP/ora/10.1.3/j2ee/forms/config/

Change the oc4jadmin password if required (if you dont know or remember)

vi  system-jazn-data.xml

Change the credentials tag in the file for user name oc4jadmin as follows:

First remove the encrypted line in between the tags

and then enter the password you want to give preceded by a !(exclamatory) symbol.

Save and exit the file.


Now Run the Deployment Script

$FND_TOP/bin/txkrun.pl -script=CfgOC4JApp

Enter Application name for re-deployment ? forms
Enter Oc4j Instance password for re-deployment ? welcome (or current password)
Run Autoconfig  ? No 

and enter the Apps schema password when asked.

It also prompts whether to run Auto-config
