There is a scripture in the Bible that says,”Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love.”

Do you know what the word “everlasting” means? It means eternal or forever. God’s love for us never ends. It is something that we can always count on… that never ends!

How do you feel God’s love for you?

I feel it when I look at the beautiful world or when I sing primary songs. I feel His love when I am kind or when the sun shines on my face.

I am so grateful that I know that I have a Heavenly Father that watches over me and loves me.

November 8 Primary Talk: The Lord’s House

Think about your house. Your house is where you spend the most time. It is a place where you spend time with your family. Your home protects you from the rain and wind and cold. Your house is a safe place where you can feel peace and love.

The Lord calls the temple His house! The temple is a holy place where we can feel Jesus and Heavenly Father close to our hearts.

The coventants we make in the temple protect us from the world. When we keep our covenants we have safety and peace in our lives.

I like thinking about the temple as a house. When I am older I hope that I feel at home in the temple. I know that Jesus wants us to visit Him there.

November 15 Primary Talk: My Body Is Sacred

Our bodies are a special gift. We were so excited to come to Earth so we could get a body. We have been commanded to take care of our bodies and treat them with respect and love.

In the Bible, the Lord taught Daniel and his friends to not drink the king’s wine and to not eat his meat. They obeyed. Because they listened to the Lord, they were more healthy than the rest of the people who did not obey.

Heavenly Father gave us the Word Of Wisdom. When we follow the Word Of Wisdom we will also be blessed with health and spiritual strength!

I am so glad that I have a body and I want to show my gratitude by taking good care of it.

November 22 Primary Talk: His Spirit Will Guide

When we are baptized we make covenants with Heavenly Father. After baptism we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead. He is real and He is our friend.

In the scriptures we read that,“I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh…” Think about the word pour. It is not a small drop or a little trickle. Pour means to flow rapidly in a steady stream.

The Sprit can be like a waterfall in our lives. If we invite the Holy Ghost to be with us, we can have His peace, knowledge, protection, and friendship each day!

I am grateful for the Holy Ghost.

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ want us to be successful. They are our biggest fans! They want us to be happy and to be blessed.

They don’t just watch over us and hope that we are ok! They are helping us along the way.

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ help us by loving, guiding, strengthening, and healing us. They give us the power to overcome trials, grow, and reach our divine potential.

We are never alone. They are always by our side helping us stay on the path that leads back to them in Heaven! I am so glad that I have them watching over me.

Ministering Thoughts & Tips for Latter-day Saints

I always do my best to stick to the Church Handbook, so you will see information below that is pulled directly from that, along with some of my own suggestions.

5 Tips for Creating Ministering Assignments for Relief Society:

1. Speak with your Bishop AND Stake Relief Society President before attempting to change the format of ministering assignments (i.e. switching over to all ‘couple assignments’ or ‘ministering groups.’) Your Bishop and Stake leader’s feedback on this change is important. It’s better to ask ahead of time than to change everything later, if you find out it’s discouraged by your Bishop, Stake President or Area Authority. Ideally, stick to the tradition of two sisters as companions.
2. If you find yourself overwhelmed with making ministering changes on the online platform, leave it to once a quarter, after ministering interviews are complete. Be sure to take good notes throughout the quarter, so you don’t forget any of the needed changes!
3. Assignments made based on proximity (living close to each other/neighbors) aren’t always the best assignments. For example, if both the minister and sister that is ministered to are both active in the church and already friends. If that’s the case, they will support each other naturally (without an assignment given), and more good would be accomplished by giving an assignment where the “active” minister is given someone that isn’t an immediate neighbor. However, neighbor-assignments often work well when the assigned sister ‘isn’t interested’ in being reached out to. Active ministers/neighbors have a more natural reason to connect and be friends. I hope that makes sense! In general, the most dedicated ministers should be assigned to those with the greatest needs.
4. If you have a sister who doesn’t want to be a minister, ask her who in the ward she is friendly with on a regular basis. Is it her neighbor that she chats with at the end of her driveway? Is it a sister she runs into while in the Mother’s Room during Sacrament Meeting? Is it a sister in the ward who has a kid on the same sports team as hers? Who does she already talk to without having to be intentional? Find out who that is and assign her to minister to that friend. She will be surprised to find out that she is doing her ministering 100%! She is less likely to avoid your ministering interviews. It’s a great little solution to help inspire and teach the sister that ministering is simply being a true friend. We can all be successful at that!
5. If a companionship struggles to align their schedules and minister together, I personally feel like it’s totally fine for them to both reach out to their sister separately. In fact, if I was their sister, I would probably prefer it that way, as I’m more of a one-on-one type of gal. As a RS President, I would just like knowing that there are TWO ministers available to reach out to, should their sister need help. Plus, there are TWO friends that their sister has in the ward. I’m less concerned that companions are reaching out together, at the same time. But, that’s just me.

Including Young Women in the Ministering Program:

Handbook: A young woman may serve as a ministering companion to a Relief Society sister when the young woman is willing and able. She may begin serving in the year she turns 14. The Relief Society presidency counsels with the young woman, her parents, and the Young Women presidency as they consider ministering assignments.

Including Young Women in the ministering program can be a tricky thing, based on my own experience and the RS Presidents’ feedback in our stake. It seemed to be a bit easier when the program was Visiting Teaching, when it was more formal. But, now that we are focused on ‘natural,’ ‘true-friend’ interactions, women aren’t finding it very natural to have a teenager by their side. It’s not easy for a sister to open up to her minister in those situations and it can also be awkward for the youth, as well. I would love to see the youth have their own ministering program, some day, still guided by their parents, but for now, we stick to and support the General Handbook.

With that said, I’ve put together a list of ideas for ministering with Young Women in companionships. Hopefully, it give you some ideas! I also love the Handbook suggestion of creating the assignment, after having discussions with the youth, her parents, and the Young Women’s president.

All About the Relief Society Ministering Interview:

The Church’s handbook used to say that ministering interviews should be held throughout the quarter, not saved for the end. But recently, that changed. Yay! Cause, I wasn’t doing it that way. When I was the ward RS President, I still had all 7 of my children at home, and I was homeschooling half of them.  I found it more manageable to do all the interviews during the last month of each quarter, rather than think about it every month of the year. However, you can do whatever suits you best!

Planning and Preparing for the Interview:

• Pray for the sister you will be interviewing. Ask that the Spirit be with you during your conversation to guide you and to help the Sister feel your love for her, as well as God’s love.
• There are many ways to conduct a ministering interview. While I served as Relief Society President, I liked to switch things up. We rarely did the same style of interview twice in a row. But, that’s just because I love change and trying new things. You can definitely keep it the same every time, if it’s effective at building connection between yourself and the sister being interviewed. How to Conduct a Ministering Interview (per the Handbook):

• Counsel about the strengths, needs, and challenges of assigned individuals and families.

• Discuss ways to help persons prepare to receive ordinances if needed.

• Consider how the elders quorum, Relief Society, ward council, and others might help.

• Minister to ministering sisters. Show love and appreciation. Teach and encourage them. Help them grow in their capacity to receive and act upon revelation in their service.

My Personal Ministering Interviewing Tips:

1. Consider not using the word “interview,” if your sisters seem intimidated by it. It can be a “ministering chat,” “ministering visit,” or anything that seems less professional, without taking away from what the experience is.
   
2. When possible, give notice of the upcoming interview. Maybe one to two weeks? This allows Sisters to do some last-minute reaching out and find a spot on their schedule that is convenient for them. Ideally, the ‘reaching out’ has already been happening. But realistically, some women will use that time to cram, and any information about their assigned sister is better than no information. Having some time/notice can help relieve some of the anxiety surrounding being interviewed.
3. During your discussion, be mindful of ways that you can support the minister in her calling. Does she need an introduction to her assigned sister? Is she in need of a new assignment? Has she tried praying for her sister regularly? Is the Spirit helping you to discern where this ministering sister may be struggling in her own faith? Remember, you are ministering to the ministers. Your support, guidance, patience, and love will result in an increase of ministering success in your ward.
4. Help the minister understand the difference between ministering and visiting teaching. Often times, simply UNDERSTANDING the concept helps the minister realize they’re doing better than they thought they were OR that it’s more doable than they realized. (Ministering is natural, Spirit-led, flexible, personalized, informal or formal, in home or elsewhere. The minister, through prayer and getting to know her assigned sister, can determine the frequency and best method of contact.)
5. Before ending your visit, ask the sister if there’s anything you can pray about for her… and, be sure to actually say the prayers! This is a beautiful way to show your love and serve the minister. 

After the Interview (per the Handbook):

• The Relief Society president and the elders quorum president should be meeting with the bishop quarterly after these interviews to make sure that members’ needs are appropriately met through ministering assignments.
• Elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies meet quarterly to discuss needs of individuals and families learned through ministering interviews.
• As needed, elders quorum and Relief Society leaders counsel with the ward council regarding strengths and needs identified in ministering interviews and make and enact plans to serve and bless ward members. When needed, Relief Society and elders quorum presidents discuss with the ward council information shared by ministering sisters and brothers. As they do, they respect members’ requests for confidentiality.

Tips for Getting Ministering to Happen in Ward Relief Societies:

1. Call a Ministering Secretary to set appointments and share regular thoughts (via your communication method) about ministering. It could be a spiritual thought, ministering ideas for the month, a ministering sister spotlight, a success story, etc. Keeping ministering ‘top of mind’ will help a lot. 
2. Be open to change. If a minister is doing all she can to connect with her assigned sister, with no progress, it can be quite discouraging. Also, that’s one person (her sister) that is not being looked after. It’s more important to find someone that may have better luck with the assigned sister than to be firm on the assignment. We don’t want the ministers to feel guilty when they’ve been doing their best. Just make a change! 
3. Often times, ministers don’t know where to start with their assigned sister. Could you introduce them to each other? Could you share some non-sensitive information about their sister to them, to spark some conversation or visit ideas? Could you hold a small little get together at your home with the companionship and all the sisters they minister to? Keep it simple. A short visit for cookies, breakfast smoothies, or paninis and new friends. Or, meet at Costa Vida! 
4. As mentioned above, if you have a sister that does not want to be a minister, maybe you could set them up for success!? Find out who they are friends with in the ward and let them be that sister’s minister (with their permission, of course.) They likely have to change nothing, as they are already friends, and they can feel like they are successful in ministering. 
5. Remember to let the minister know when you find out about a ‘need’ their assigned sister has. Even if you notice their sister seems down or absent from church, maybe suggest they reach out and ‘let you know’ how it goes. Ministers are often open to direct requests from the Presidency. 
6. Keep things light and loving. The gospel is a gift and something to be joyful about. Set an example of truly enjoying Relief Society and ministering. Your positive mindset will be infectious and spread throughout your ward. Encourage your presidency to turn up their positivity dial, as well. We have ample reason to rejoice in Christ!

Tips & Ideas for Ministering With Young Women

Below are more than 70 practical ministering ideas for companionships that include a Young Woman. They’re grouped by category so you can pick what fits your sisters, your companion, and your season of life.

Start by Reframing the Companionship

The biggest shift happens before you ever knock on a door. When a young woman feels like a real companion instead of someone tagging along, everything changes.

• Treat her as a companion, not a passenger. Ask her opinion before each contact: “Who do you think we should check on this week?” or “What do you think Sister ___ would enjoy?”
• Give her one specific job per visit. She might bring the treat, share a thought, ask the opening question, or write the follow-up note.
• Explain what ministering actually is. Many teens think ministering means a scheduled visit. Help her see that it’s really about noticing, remembering, and showing up. I like to think of it as being a ‘true friend.’ We should all know what that looks like.
• Debrief after every contact. On the way home, ask: “What did you notice? What do you think she needs? What should we do next?” This is where most of the teaching happens. It will open the YW’s mind to what she just experienced and teach her the importance of being socially aware.
• Pray together. Pray before a visit or for the sisters you serve, and let her offer the prayer sometimes. I like to ask for the gift of discernment, to help me understand what is being shared by our sister and to also hear what isn’t being said.
• Be mindful. Having a teen as your companion can hold your sister back from opening up about bigger concerns she may have. It’s okay to *sometimes* have visits without your YW companion. Take your sister to lunch, for a walk, of even have a home visit. It’s okay to have some adult-time, especially when you feel it’s necessary. But, do your best to include your companion as often as you can.

Ministering Visit Ideas That Work Better With a Teenager

Sitting on a couch making small talk can feel awkward for a teen. Visits built around an activity are often more natural for everyone.

• Choose activity-based visits. Bake cookies, decorate for a holiday, plant bulbs, or work on a puzzle together.
• Help with a project. Rake leaves, wash windows, organize a pantry, or put up Christmas lights.
• Teach a skill both ways. The sister teaches the young woman to crochet, can peaches, or make bread. The young woman teaches her a phone or social media trick.
• Bring a game. Uno, Skip-Bo, or another simple card game works well, especially for older or homebound sisters.
• Take a walk together around the neighborhood or at a local park.
• Go out for a treat. Grab hot chocolate, ice cream, or a drink together.
• Help with family history. Teens are often great with FamilySearch, indexing, or scanning old photos.
• Interview the sister. Let the young woman ask about her childhood, her conversion story, or how she met her husband. Older sisters often love this, and it builds a real bond.
• Do a recipe swap. The young woman learns the sister’s favorite recipe and makes it at home.

Small and Simple Ministering Ideas

Not every contact needs to be a visit. Teaching a young woman that small things count may be one of the most valuable lessons she learns.

• Make doorstep drops with a note, like seasonal treats, a plant, a candle, or a printed quote.
• Write handwritten cards for birthdays, difficult anniversaries, missionary farewells, or just because. Let the young woman design them.
• Send texts and photos. The young woman can send a funny picture, a favorite scripture, or “Good luck at your appointment today!”
• Sit by them at church, or save them a seat.
• Say hello in the hallway on Sundays, and teach the young woman that this counts too.
• Remember important dates in a shared note: birthdays, kids’ names, upcoming surgeries, and job interviews.
• Celebrate wins like a new job, new baby, finished project, or even when someone in their family has a ‘win.’

Seasonal and Holiday Ministering Ideas

Holidays give you a natural reason to reach out.

• Fall: Paint pumpkins, make caramel apples, or drop off a bag of fall treats.
• Thanksgiving: Write a gratitude card naming something specific you appreciate about her.
• Christmas: Bring by a Christmas treat or poinsettia (Costco always has beautiful ones!), help wrap presents, or babysit kids for Christmas shopping.
• Valentine’s Day: Deliver “we love you” notes or flowers, especially to your single and widowed sisters.
• Easter: Make an Easter basket for her, put together a General Conference kit, or give a simple Christ-centered card.
• Summer: Bring her favorite ice cream, go for a hike/walk, or pick her up and go chat at the local soda shop.
• Birthdays: Let the young woman bring something homemade, choose a small gift, or write a card with everything you both admire about your sister.

Spiritual Ways the Young Woman Can Contribute With Ministering

Ministering is ultimately about helping people come closer to the Savior. Young women can take part in that in simple, meaningful ways.

• Share a favorite scripture or talk and explain why it matters to her.
• Bear a short testimony. Start small, even a single sentence.
• Share something from Seminary or Young Women class that week.
• Add your sisters name to the temple prayer rolls. Does your Young Woman companion know how to do this and why we do it?
• Talk about the Young Women program with your sister. Did she attend as a youth? Has she served in YW? They often have wonderful stories to share.

How to Keep Ministering Personal With a Youth Companion

This is the part many of us worry about most. Here are ways to protect the closeness of your relationships while still including your companion.

• Have some contacts of your own. Ministering isn’t only formal visits, so a text, a phone call, or a quick drop-in on your own still counts. Check with your ward Relief Society presidency on how they’d like companionships to work, but there’s usually room for flexibility.
• Teach the YW about confidentiality. Explain that what sisters share stays private, and that keeping confidences is part of being someone people can trust.
• Choose visits by need. As mentioned above, if a sister is going through something tender, like a divorce, grief, or a health crisis, make that a one-on-one contact and save companion visits for lighter moments.
• Ask the sister directly. “Is it okay with we both come, or would you rather it just be me this time?”

Mentoring Your Young Woman Companion

Don’t forget that your companion is also someone you’re ministering to.

• Ask about her life on the drive over. If it helps, jot down notes after your visit, so you can refresh your mind the next time you’re together.
• Share your own ministering stories, including the times it felt awkward and the times it mattered. Never hesitate to share your testimony.
• Normalize the awkwardness. Tell her it’s okay not to know what to say, and that showing up is most of it.
• Let her see you fail and try again. If you forget a birthday, apologize and follow up, and let her watch you do it.
• Help her see her value. Teens often bring a lightness that older or lonely sisters love.
• Connect ministering to her future. Help her see how this prepares her for a mission, motherhood, Relief Society, and lifelong friendships.
• Celebrate her. Tell her parents or Young Women leaders when she does something kind, helpful, or has something to celebrate.

Practical Logistics for Youth Ministering Companionships

A little planning goes a long way with busy teenagers.

• Plan around her schedule. School, sports, and jobs keep teens busy, so plan ahead and keep visits short.
• Use a shared calendar or group text with her and a parent. Or, ask her parent if they’re okay with you texting her about ministering.
• Rotate who plans. Take turns deciding on the ministering method. Be flexible, especially if she’s willing to share an idea.

Tips for Ward Relief Society Presidents

If you lead a Relief Society, you can help these companionships succeed.

• Pair thoughtfully. Match young women with adults they already know, or with sisters who share an interest, or someone who could be a positive influence in their life. Explain the WHY of the pairing to the adult companion, to inspire greater efforts to be made with their youth companion.
• Hold a short training with Relief Society and Young Women together on what ministering means.
• Meet with the Young Women’s President to gain her support for the Relief Society and ministering program. Consider ways that the two organizations can work together to make a seamless transition from YW to RS. Also, ask about each girl, particular needs they may have when assigning a companion/sisters, etc.
• Share success stories in Relief Society or Young Women meetings.
• Plan a RS activity focused on ministering. Maybe the sisters can make a fun craft or treat to give to their ministering sister.
• Check in with the young women themselves, not just the adult companion. This is not an official interview, but maybe the youth has questions or concerns. Their thoughts matter!

Ministering with a young woman may not look like the visiting teaching we got used to, but it can be some of the most meaningful service we do… a higher and holier work! When we invite a teenager into the work, we’re not just serving the sisters on our list. We’re helping prepare a future Relief Society sister to love the way the Savior loves. When I served as a ward Relief Society President, I loved trying new interview styles. We rarely did the same thing twice in a row. That’s just me, though. I love change! What I learned is that most sisters want something simple and not intimidating. They don’t want a formal sit-down with a clipboard. They want to feel loved, have a treat, and chat with a friend for a few minutes.

So here’s a big list of ideas to inspire you. Some are ones my presidency actually did, and the rest are ideas I’d love to see someone try. Pick what fits your ward, your budget, and your energy level.

Quick reminder: the Handbook says ministering interviews “do not need to be long to be effective.” Five to ten minutes is plenty! (General Handbook 21.3)

13 Creative Relief Society Ministering Interview Ideas

1. The Drive-Up Soda Shop

This one was a big hit in my ward. We set up a drive-up system in the church parking lot. Sisters pulled in, and before the interview started, my secretary came by their window with a soda shop menu. (Yes, we created our own soda shop!) Each sister marked what she wanted in her customized drink, and the secretary went off to make it.

Meanwhile, my counselors or I would hop into the sister’s passenger seat for a quick interview. By the time we were done, her drink was ready and delivered right to her window. Each car took about 5 to 10 minutes. Sisters never have to get out of the car, kids can stay buckled in, and everyone drives away with a treat. It’s low-pressure and SO fun.

NOTE: In the fall or winter, you could switch it up for flavored hot chocolate! 

2. Bread, Dips & Jams Night

My current RS Presidency just did this. It was simple and sweet! They  invited all the ministering sisters to the church for homemade bread, dips, and jams. Everyone mingled and ate together while the RS counselors quietly pulled sisters out, one at a time, to another room for a quick interview. Then they came right back to the party or were welcome to take off.

3. Kitchen Counter Cookie Visits

This was one of my favorite methods we tried because of how intimate it was. Just myself, the sister being interviewed, and a plate of warm cookies to munch on. Each member of the presidency took their own “ministering district.” (We split all the ward ministers into three groups: one for the president and one for each counselor.) Then each presidency member invited the sisters in her district to her home, one at a time. As mentioned, we’d chat at the kitchen counter over homemade cookies. It feels like visiting a friend, because it is!  We have been taught by our church leaders that ministering interviews are an opportunity to set an example of ministering.

NOTE: It doesn’t need to be cookies! You could have banana bread, cinnamon rolls, you name it. Be aware of any gluten free needs. 

Favorite Treat Ideas: Make You Famous Sugar Cookies, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies with Buttercream Frosting, Grammy’s Banana Bread

4. Ministering and Muffins

Stop by each of the sisters’ homes in your district in the morning for a short visit on their front porch (or inside, if they’re up for that) with a yummy breakfast muffin. Make sure this is arranged ahead of time, of course.

Favorite Muffin Recipes: Apple Cinnamon Bran Muffins, Raspberry White Chocolate Muffins

5. Charcuterie and Chat

Charcuterie boards are all the rage lately. Invite the sisters into the Relief Society room on a weeknight or a presidency member’s home for a delicious charcuterie feast! You could even have someone offering tips for putting the boards together. As the sisters are visiting and eating, a presidency member can pull one aside for a quick ministering interview.

6. Kickin’ It Old School – Relief Society Craft Night

Oh, where have the days gone of creating door wreaths, monogramming casserole dishes, and stringing Christmas garland for a Relief Society activity? I think it would be super fun to bring back the good ole days by having a fun craft to make while the sisters visit, complete with casseroles, no-bake cookies, green jell-o, and vintage church music (think Michael McLean, Kenneth Cope, and Janice Kapp Perry.) Of course, sisters are pulled away one at a time for a quick interview.

7. Holiday Pie Recipe Exchange (and Ministering Interviews)

Do you have Thanksgiving or Christmas coming up?? This is the perfect time to do a pie recipe exchange! Have everyone in the presidency make and bring their most favorite holiday pie to share, along with recipe cards printed and set by the pies. Invite all of the sisters to bring their favorite pie, but don’t put the pressure on them. Try and have enough pies between you and your presidency, so that it’s totally optional for the sisters. Ministering interviews can already feel a little stressful (though, they shouldn’t!) It’s best to make the whole experience as easy as possible. If you definitely need more pies, besides what the presidency can bring, reach out to your activity committee or service committee to help with this.

8. Rocking Chair Chats

One of my favorite things to do is sit and visit with my husband on the front porch. It would also be the perfect spot for a ministering visit! Have the sisters scheduled throughout your week to come meet you on your front porch for a visit. Be prepared with a yummy drink and treat for them as you sit outside and chat.

9. Serving Our Ministers Night

Put together a fun evening, where the sisters can create a gift and note for the sisters they minister to. Look on Pinterest for simple, affordable gift ideas and encourage the minister to write a thoughtful note to each of the sisters they visit.

10. Caramel Apple Dipping Night

Just the mention of a caramel apple dipped in candy would have me at the church in no time! Have a long table set up where the sisters can get their apple, dip it, then choose the candies to roll it in. Be sure to have a plate for them to set it on and maybe a plastic to-go bag. And, of course… ministering interviews mixed in.

11. Build a Friendship Bouquet Night

This would be a fun activity for late spring or summer. Invite the sisters to the church to learn about the characteristics of a true friend. (True friend = Minister!) Have a table set up with loose flower stems, ready to be gathered into a bouquet. Give each flower a “true friend characteristic” and each lady can go down the row, gathering one stem from each type of flower. At the end of the line, she will have a bouquet to either remind her about the importance of ministering or a bouquet to give to the sister she ministers to. It would also be fun to include a notecard that lists all the characteristics that were talked about (loyalty, honesty, quality time, thoughtfulness, empathy, etc.)

12. Breakfast Bar – Sunrise Social

Put together a breakfast bar and invite the sisters to stop by the church Saturday morning! You could do yogurt parfaits and all the ingredients, muffins,  breakfast casseroles and fruit, anything that’s worth throwing on some sweatpants for. Pull the ladies aside for a ministering chat during the event.

Favorite Breakfast Recipes: Southwestern Breakfast Bake, Breakfast Fajitas, Bacon and Egg Breakfast Muffins

13. Shake Run

Pick up a sister to interview (scheduled ahead of time) and drive to grab a shake, soda, or ice cream cone together. The interview happens on the drive. It’s quick, easy, and feels like hanging out with a friend. You don’t even have to go inside! Just hit the drive through.

Tips for Making Any Interview Style Work

• Keep it short. Five to ten minutes is plenty. Sisters are more likely to come if they know it won’t take long.
• Offer a few time slots. A sign-up sheet or online scheduler helps busy moms pick what works.
• Let your secretary help with logistics. She can schedule, send reminders, and run the treats (like our soda shop!).
• Include both companions when you can. The Handbook prefers interviews in person with both members of the companionship. Group nights and drive-ups make that easier.
• Have a backup plan. Some sisters won’t make it to the event. Follow up with a call, text, or porch visit.
• Watch for dietary needs. Keep a gluten-free or sugar-free option on hand.
• Take notes AFTER the interview (in private.) Having a clipboard or jotting down notes during the interview can feel intimidating to the sisters.
• Don’t forget to pray. Pray for each sister before you meet. And when you ask if there’s anything you can pray about for her, be sure to follow through!

August 9 Primary Talk: I Can Be Brave

It is not easy to stand for what is right. It is easy to feel nervous or scared. But, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will help us be brave! True bravery means doing what is right even when you are afraid.

In the scriptures, Joshua said, “Be strong and of a good courage.” When we pray, read the scriptures, and follow the Holy Ghost, the Lord gives us courage to do what is right.

Even if it feels hard, we are never alone. Jesus knows how we feel, and He will help us be brave and true.

I am thankful for Jesus Christ and for His love. I know that when we choose the right, He will bless and strengthen us.

August 16 Primary Talk: I Can Be Faithful

Everyone has challenges sometimes. Even prophets and people in the scriptures! We might have days when we feel scared, sad, or worried. But, we can be faithful because we know the Lord. He loves us, and He is always with us.

When we pray, read the scriptures, and keep His commandments, we can feel peace. Even if our problems do not go away right away, the Lord gives us strength to keep going.

I know that Jesus Christ is on our side. He understands us, and He will never leave us alone. When we trust Him, He helps us be strong and faithful.

I am thankful for my Savior and for His love. I know He will help us through every challenge.

August 23 Primary Talk: Jesus Is Our Shepherd

Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd.” A shepherd loves and takes care of his sheep. He helps them find food, keeps them safe, and looks for them if they get lost.

We are like these little lambs. Jesus knows each of us by name, and He loves us very much. When we are scared, lonely, or make mistakes, Jesus is there to help us.

We can follow our Shepherd by praying, reading the scriptures, and choosing the right. As we follow Him, He will lead us and help us feel His love.

I am thankful that Jesus is my Shepherd. I know He watches over us and will always care for us.

August 30 Primary Talk: We Can Be A Light

A testimony is knowing that Jesus Christ loves us and that He is our Savior. When we live like Jesus and share what we believe, we help others feel His love too.

Sometimes we can share our testimony with our words. Other times we share it by being kind, helping a friend, or choosing the right- even when it is hard!

Our example can be like a light that helps others come closer to Jesus.

Jesus said, “Let your light so shine.” When we follow Him and share our testimony, we can help bring others to His light.

I am thankful for Jesus Christ. I know He loves each one of us, and I know that as we share our testimony, others can feel His love too.

A few things about ordering your free Book of Mormon Without Missionaries …

Pretty-Please DO NOT Order If …

If you are currently an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I am going to KINDLY ask that you NOT email me asking for a package. I use my personal time and money to put together and ship these packages, so it gets kinda pricey and time-consuming.

If you are currently a member of The Church and would like a physical copy of the book, your Bishop has them available. Oh, and if you wouldn’t mind sharing this post, that would be wonderful. Thank you for understanding!!!

If You’re Ready to Order Right Now …

There’s a few things (all below) that I would love to share with you. But, if you need to come back to it later and get this party started, here’s what you need to do.

In the United States or Canada: Email me at ladies@oneshetwoshe.com with your NAME and MAILING ADDRESS.  In the subject line, put something like ‘Book of Mormon Request.’ That’s it.

Outside of the United States: Email me at ladies@oneshetwoshe.com. To prevent expensive returned packages, I need your NAME, ADDRESS, and PHONE NUMBER. I’m not going to call you, I promise. This is for the post office in your country to call you if there’s a delivery issue (and, it’s not unusual that there is…. so, PLEASE add that phone number.) In the subject line, put ‘Book of Mormon Request.’  * And, please be diligent about picking up your book at the post office, when it arrives. If you take too long, they return it to me, and I can’t send you another one, as each international shipment costs me about $30.

But wait, a few important things before you email your request:

• Please don’t ask me to ship a book to someone who hasn’t requested it. Too many books have been returned to me from people who don’t actually want them, so it ends up wasting money. If someone wants a book, I prefer they request it for themselves.
• Please use your REAL name. I know it’s tempting to give me a fake name, in case I’m tricking you and actually sending missionaries to your house and putting you on a mailing list. I’m not. I don’t know how else to convince you. But, using a fake name can cause issues with shipping and books returned to me. This seems to happen a lot.
• Please double check your address that it is EXACTLY how it should be written on the envelope I send. Again, too many books have been returned because of an “incomplete” or “incorrect” address. For shipments outside the U.S., please read the next bullet point…
• For shipments outside the United States or Canada, please include your phone number for me to add to the package. It allows the post office to contact you if they have questions about delivery. I will not ship to these continents without a phone number with the address on the package.
• I can only send you ONE book. If you want more than one, you can purchase them on the Deseret Book website.
• I don’t have Bibles, The Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, or study guides available to send out. You can also purchase those on that same site or read them online (see the bottom of this post for info on that.)
• This offer doesn’t expire. Sometimes I update the post publish date, to help alleviate your fears that I’m not doing this anymore. But, even if this post doesn’t seem super current, I promise… I’ll still send your book out.
• And again, if you’re a member of the Church already, please ask your local Bishop for a Book of Mormon, rather than have me send you one.

Basically, what I’m getting at is…

I receive multiple requests every single day, which I really LOVE, but I just ask that you respect that this is my personal, family money (a blessing from God) and monetary donations from a dear friend that I am using. Each package costs anywhere from $6 to $30 to send, depending on where it is shipping to. So, I am spending several hundreds of dollars every single month. It’s a lot for me, but it is worth it, because this book is awesome and if approached correctly, will change your life for the better. I know that God will bless me to have the money I need to ship these books for Him. So, don’t hesitate to ask. I just wanted to make sure we avoid being wasteful of God’s money, as much as possible, and following the guidelines above really helps! Thank you!!

If you want to, I would love for you to share with me, in your email, what prompted you to send your request. It’s always fun to get some insight on where my readers are coming from in life and feel a little personal connection when I send the free Book of Mormon out. But, totally optional. I just love when it happens.

What happens after I get your email…

I respond to every email I receive, but it seems like two weeks is my average email response time… so, don’t think I’m ignoring you! I try to hide from my 7 kids and sit down once a week to catch up on emails.

• When I email you, I’ll send you my list of awesome resources to help you learn more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and understand The Book of Mormon better, when you read it.
• I ship the packages out once a week. I know it can be a bummer to wait, but it makes this project a little more doable, when I can do a bunch at once. However, see below on where to go to learn more while you’re waiting for your package to arrive.
• Of course, if you would like to have missionaries come, I think that’s awesome. They can give you a free book, teach you more, attend church with you, etc. You can line all of that up at The Church’s website, Come Unto Christ. But, I’m leaving that up to you to take care of.

Why Am I Doing This??

I love Christ. I love the scriptures, especially The Book of Mormon. And, I love my family. The world can be so chaotic and disheartening. But, there are a few things that incite true joy, keep me calm, give me direction, bring me hope, and comfort me… and it is THOSE things, in THAT order: Christ, His Word, and my family. I have learned, just from being alive in this world, that those feelings seem to be in short supply. People don’t always know where to find them and are often lonely, angry, confused, bitter, defeated, guilt-ridden, scared, etc. It doesn’t need to be that way. The knowledge of where to find peace and joy has been so valuable to me and my family. I have to share it!

If you are looking for those wonderful feelings, if you want to step away from the negativity, receive some guidance, and feel some peace, let me tell you something… every step you take TOWARDS Christ will bring light to your life. It’s not some hokey made-up nonsense, like some people would have you believe… it’s absolutely true. And, why not test it out for yourself? Like, sincerely test it out… coming at it with an open heart and a true desire to know, and to have what I claim is available. Try it and see how you feel inside. It’s worth any effort. I promise.

There’s a scripture in The Book of Mormon, in the book of Moroni that reads…

“And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.” Moroni 10:4-5

The super cool thing is you don’t need to blindly believe. I don’t want to convince you. You can know for yourself because God believes you should know for yourself. He knows that you need your own personal witness of what’s true, to truly focus your life correctly. He wants that for you and the truths you need will come from His Spirit. The confirmation won’t come from me, from your neighbor, Google, your pastor/priest/church leader, parent, anyone… it will come from The Spirit, specifically to you. I think that’s a pretty awesome gift from God.

Above, I mentioned taking steps towards Christ. This is a one-step-at-a-time kind of thing and every step counts. Taking steps can be a variety of things: saying a prayer, reading your scriptures, attending church, serving others, and so on. It can even be as simple as sending me an email asking for this free package and desiring to learn more. That’s a step, because The Book of Mormon testifies of Christ over and over and over again! And, when you receive it, take another step and crack it open. Heck, maybe take a double-step and pray beforehand to be guided, while you read, to know whether what you are reading is of God or not. EVERY STEP YOU TAKE TOWARDS CHRIST WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE… a wonderful difference.

Anyway, THAT is why I’m doing this. I want you to have the ultimate joy and peace inside that you crave. When you request your package, I’ll be sure to include some of my more personal thoughts and experience, typed up, about why this is important to me. A Super Short Introduction …

I’m Mariel. I’ve been running this blog for nearly 14 years. What is The Book of Mormon??

The first video is a simple explanation of The Book of Mormon.

The second video is one of my very favorite testimonies of The Book of Mormon, shared by Elder Holland, an apostle of The Lord. In his video, he will be referencing the murder of The Prophet, Joseph Smith, who was called to translate the ancient scripture plates so that we could read them today (The Book of Mormon.) By denying what he knew to be true, he could have saved his life. He could have save the lives of those he loved and stopped the persecution of his family, whom he loved so much, and all of those who believed in his role. His testimony was sealed by his death.

“So it was with me. I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two Personages, and they did in reality speak to me; and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true; and while they were persecuting me, reviling me, and speaking all manner of evil against me falsely for so saying, I was led to say in my heart: Why persecute me for telling the truth? I have actually seen a vision; and who am I that I can withstand God, or why does the world think to make me deny what I have actually seen? For I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it; at least I knew that by so doing I would offend God, and come under condemnation.” – Joseph Smith

Where to Learn More While Waiting for Your Package…

There are lots of places you can find information about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints online. However, a lot of it conflicting. Who is telling the truth?? My suggestion is go to the source… go straight to the websites of The Church. It’s straight-forward and uninfluenced by opinions or experiences, as people are not perfect, inside or outside of the church. Nearly every question you have can be found addressed on one of them: Come Unto Christ (awesome site, geared towards those wanting to learn more) and The Church of Jesus Christ. (a site, mostly used by members of The Church, but has so many great things to learn from!)

Also, The Church has released a series of videos depicting the events in The Book of Mormon. They really bring the scriptures to life, and help you better understand what you read.

How Do I Order Again??

For this, I’m going to send you back to the beginning of the post for the most detailed information and things to make sure of, before you send your email.

How to Read the Book of Mormon Free Online

You can TOTALLY read the Book of Mormon free online or listen to Book of Mormon audio. There are a couple of great options…

• The Church’s website, www.thechurchofjesuschrist.org, offers the entire book of scriptures for free to read online, as well as the Bible, Doctrine & Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price. There is also an option to listen to the scriptures on the bottom right corner of each chapter.
• If you would rather listen to the scriptures on your phone, I would suggest getting the Gospel Library app. I’ve found that listening to the scriptures is a different experience than reading them. They both add to your understanding in a different way. I like doing both! On the Gospel Library app, you can also access The Church of Jesus Christ’s magazines, hymns, lesson manuals, and videos. It’s an awesome resource.

There are a couple other sites that claim to offer The Book of Mormon online, but I’ve found their sites to be glitchy or unsecured. Once again, I would just go to the source.

July 5: The Still Small Voice

Today I would like to speak about the Holy Ghost. Heavenly Father speaks to us through the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is a still small voice. Listen to the words of this primary song:

“Through a still small voice, the Spirit speaks to me.
To guide me, to save me from the evil I may see.
If I try to do what’s right, he will lead me thru the night!
Direct me, protect me, and give my soul His light.
Listen, listen. The Holy Ghost will whisper.
Listen, listen to the still small voice.”

I like knowing that the Holy Ghost can guide me and protect me. It is a special and sacred gift. If we do our best to listen to the promptings we feel, the Holy Ghost will help us to do what is right.

July 12: I Am Not Alone

Today I want to talk about how we are never alone. Heavenly Father and Jesus love us very much. Even when we feel scared, sad, or lonely, They are with us.

The scriptures teach that the Lord surrounds us with angels. Angels can protect us, help us, and bring us peace.

Sometimes angels are people around us, like our family, friends, or teachers, who help us and show us love.

I know that Heavenly Father watches over us every day. I know Jesus Christ loves us and wants us to feel safe and strong. We are never alone because the Lord and His angles are always near.

July 19: Scripture Power

Today I want to talk about the scriptures. In our church we have the Bible, Book of Mormon, and The Doctrine and Covenants.

The scriptures are a gift from Heavenly Father. They teach us about Jesus Christ and help us know what is right.

The scriptures can guide us and direct us in our lives. They are like a light that helps us find the right path when we feel confused or don’t know what to do.

When we read the scriptures, we can feel peace and learn how much Heavenly Father and Jesus love us. They give us spiritual power!

I am thankful for the scriptures and for the blessings they bring into my life. I know they are true.

July 26: Turn To Jesus

Today I want to talk about how we can turn to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ when we have hard times.

Sometimes we feel sad, scared, or worried. Life can be hard, but we do not have to face it alone.

We can pray to Heavenly Father and ask for help. We can talk to Him anytime. He hears our prayers.

Jesus Christ knows how we feel and understands our troubles. He loves us and wants to comfort us.

When we trust in Heavenly Father and Jesus, They can give us peace, strength, and hope. They may not always take our problems away, but They will help us through them.

I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus love us and will always help us when we ask. I feel safe knowing They are there.

Sunday, June 14 Primary Talk: Look On The Heart

The scriptures talk a lot about hearts. Our hearts are very important. We are asked to have soft hearts, humble hearts, pure hearts, faithful hearts, steady hearts and more!

When God thinks about us, He doesn’t worry about how we look on the outside. He thinks about our hearts. Are our hearts in the right place?!

It is important for us to follow His example. When we look at others, we shouldn’t focus on their how they look, or what they wear! That stuff isn’t as important as how they act and how they make others feel. We love them for what is on the inside!

I hope that we can have hearts that are good. And that we can desire to be like Jesus! His heart is so full of love for us.

Primary Talk June 21: Help From The Lord

In the Bible, we read about King David! He was a king and a prophet. He had a lot of power, but when he was worried or when he needed help, he was smart enough to ask the Lord what to do! He would pray.

When we need help, we can pray too! Prayer does not make us weak. God makes us stronger.

We can pray if we are feeling scared or when we have to do something new! We can also pray when we are happy and we want to thank Heavenly Father for things we are grateful for. We can pray for comfort and peace.

Heavenly Father is always watching over us and sending His love. But when we pray, we invite His presence into our lives. We allow Him to be with us! I am glad we have examples like King David to know that prayer is a powerful blessing.

June 28 Primary Talk: Staying True

Something we talk about a lot in church is “enduring to the end.” What do you think that saying means?

I know Heavenly Father doesn’t expect us to be perfect. He knows we are going to make mistakes and have hard days. But, He wants us to keep choosing Him. We need to keep choosing His path even if we step off for a moment.

I like that enduring to the end is a choice. We get to decide to stand for truth and right. No one can take that choice away.

When we endure to the end, we are choosing happiness that lasts forever. I am so glad that I can keep choosing Jesus and Heavenly Father each day. They are always going to want what is best for us and I know that staying with them is the best choice we can make.

May 3 Primary Talk: Holy Places

Heavenly Father wants us to stand in holy places. That means we should try to be in places where we can feel the Holy Ghost and be close to Jesus.

A holy place can be the temple, our church building, or even our home. We can also make our hearts a holy place when we choose to be kind, honest, and follow Jesus.

When we stand in holy places, we are protected and we can feel Heavenly Father’s love.

It makes Jesus happy when we choose to be where He would want us to go. He knows that when we are in holy places, we can listen to Him better and grow closer to Him.

Primary Talk May 10: Our Prophet

One of the blessing we have as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is our prophet! Our current prophet is President Dallin H. Oaks.

The prophet is able to give us special instructions and messages from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He is their messenger on Earth.

The prophet has told us that we need to be grateful for our families. He said it is important to spend time together, have fun with each other, and learn and grow as a family unit. I love my family! I am glad that we can be together forever.

He has also asked us to be peacemakers. Jesus was a peacemaker. He loved everyone. We can follow His example and show love to our family and neighbors and friends! It can make a big difference for people when we show them that we care.

I am glad we have a prophet to help us to stay close to Jesus and Heavenly Father. He is our guide and friend. He loves us and wants us to be happy.

Primary Talk May 17: Keep The Word Of God In My Heart

Jesus has asked us to keep the word of God in our hearts. Do you know what that means? I think it means that we need to remember Heavenly Father and Jesus and do our best to keep them close to our hearts.

One way we can keep them close to our hearts is to read the scriptures and memorize short verses to help us in times of need. I like the scripture in Mark that says, “Peace, be still.” Jesus said these words to calm the troubled waters of the sea. And it worked!

Jesus would say these same words to us when we are having a rough day! When we feel sad or alone, our hearts can whisper, “Peace, be still.” Jesus will help us to feel calm and safe.

I know when we keep His words close and remember Him, we can feel peace and happiness in our lives.

Primary Talk May 24: Be Strong And Of Good Courage

In the Bible, Jesus tells the people to “Be strong and of good courage.” He tells them the same thing over and over again. I think that means they really needed to hear those words.

Do you ever have days when you need Jesus to tell you to “be strong and of good courage?”

It is not always easy to choose the right. We may be tempted to say mean things. It is easy to think that telling a lie or skipping church is more fun than doing what Jesus wants us to do. How can we stand up for what is right?

We can follow the example of people in the scriptures that chose to follow Jesus even when it was hard. We can say a prayer and ask the Holy Ghost to help us. We can picture Jesus walking by our side, helping us to say on the path back to Him. Following the commandments and living like Jesus takes strength and courage! We can do it.

Primary Talk May 31: Small And Simple Things

An important lesson we learn from the scriptures is that by small and simple things, great things come to pass! Jesus and Heavenly Father don’t need huge miracles and large army’s to make good things happen on Earth. Little actions make a big difference.

What are some small things we can do to help make the world a better place? Here a few:

• Smiling at people at school or at the store
• Picking up trash and litter
• Doing “secret service” activities for neighbors
• Helping clean the house without being asked
• Praying for a friend who is sad
• Saying, “thank you” to teachers

It is possible to make a difference…even though we are small. When we choose the right and choose to follow the example of Jesus, we make the world a little better and a little bit brighter.

April 12 Primary Talk: I Can Have A Soft Heart

In the scriptures we learn that Jesus wants us to have a soft heart. What does that mean?

A soft heart means we are willing to listen, to learn, and to feel the Holy Ghost. When our hearts are soft, the Lord can teach us important things.

There are examples of people in the scriptures who have hard hearts. They do not want to do what the Lord asks them to do and they refuse to see the miracles that happen around them. It is sad to see how much they miss out on because they choose to turn away.

The Lord says, “I will soften their hearts.” When our hearts are soft, we are kinder, we forgive faster, and we want to follow Jesus. I hope we can have soft hearts.

April 19 Primary Talk: Jesus Is My Rock

A rock is strong and steady. It doesn’t move when the wind blows or when storms come. When we say Jesus is our Rock, it means He is someone we can always count on. He never changes! He will always help us.

When life feels hard, or when we feel scared or unsure, Jesus can give us strength. When we pray, read the scriptures, or try to follow Him, it’s like standing on a strong rock that keeps us safe.

Jesus loves us so much. He wants us to come to Him. He promises to support us just like a strong rock supports everything that stands on it.

I know that Jesus is our Rock. He is always there for us, and He will never let us fall.

April 26 Primary Talk: Commandments Help Us To Be Happy

Jesus gives us commandments because He wants us to be happy.

Jesus loves us so much! That’s why He gives us commandments. They aren’t to make life harder—they’re to help us make good choices and return to Him.

It’s kind of like flying a kite. A kite needs a string to fly. If you cut the string, the kite doesn’t fly higher—it actually falls. The string gives the kite the support it needs to soar. Commandments are like that string. They guide us and help us stay close to Jesus so we can be truly happy.

When we keep the commandments we feel the Holy Ghost. That feeling brings real happiness.

Holding on to the commandments makes it possible for us to soar.
