• An initial custom layer capability was added. This capability allows developer plug-ins to draw directly in a custom layer within a spatial data view. The drawing and specific information needed by the view (e.g. layer extents) is implemented in a special DrawObject instance that is set into the custom layer. The custom layer also maintains an Any data element, where custom data drawn by the DrawObject can optionally be stored. This capability is demonstrated by the new CustomLayerPlugIn class within the PlugInSamplerQt project. (OPTICKS-504)

• An initial custom layer capability was added. This capability allows developer plug-ins to draw directly in a custom layer within a spatial data view. The drawing and specific information needed by the view (e.g. layer extents) is implemented in a special DrawObject instance that is set into the custom layer. The custom layer also maintains an Any data element, where custom data drawn by the DrawObject can optionally be stored. This capability is demonstrated by the new CustomLayerPlugIn class within the PlugInSamplerQt project. (OPTICKS-504)

• A primary raster element can now be associated with and georeferenced by an IGM file. (OPTICKS-767)
• The following enhancements have been added to all plots (OPTICKS-893):
  1. A new mouse mode toolbar is available containing buttons to activate the available mouse modes.
  2. A new Toolbars menu is available on the context menu, allowing available toolbars to be shown or hidden individually.
  3. Capability now exists to zoom in/out on a plot with the mouse wheel, independently from the current mouse mode. The zoom direction adheres to the value defined in the options.
  4. The existing capability to zoom in/out by pressing the middle mouse button is now available independently from the current mouse mode.
  5. Directional panning is now available by pressing and releasing the middle mouse button, independently from the current mouse mode.
• The following enhancements have been added to histogram plots (OPTICKS-893):
  1. Capability now exists to switch between a linear scale and logarithmic scale for one or both axes, with an optional capability to link the plot scale type with the contrast stretch type for a raster layer.
  2. The list of bands to display in the context menu for a raster layer now displays wavelengths for each band, if available.
  3. For a raster layer histogram, the currently displayed band can now be modified with the existing keyboard shortcut defined in the options for a spatial data view.
  4. For a raster layer histogram, custom contrast stretch configurations can now be saved/restored from a new Stretch Favorites menu on the right-click context menu.
  5. While in the "Adjust Stretch" mouse mode, the raster layer brightness can be adjusted by shifting the stretch region when left-clicking and dragging the mouse with the Shift key pressed.
  6. While in the "Adjust Stretch" mouse mode, the raster layer contrast can be adjusted by scaling the stretch region when left-clicking and dragging the mouse with the Ctrl key pressed.
• Custom contrast stretch configurations can now be saved/restored from the raster layer page in the Options dialog and also from the raster layer Properties dialog. (OPTICKS-893)
• All core plug-ins now have input and output argument descriptions in the Wizard Builder. (OPTICKS-913)
• The Zoom and Pan to Point dialog now allows the user to pan based on pixel coordinates, even if it is georeferenced. (OPTICKS-966)

• A view now has a separate classification from the primary raster element. To use the new dependency management system a Java installation of Java 1.4.X or later is required on your system. There are three dlls MesaGL6_2.dll, MesaGLU6_2.dll, osmesa6_2.dll that are missing the required manifest entries. You can download patched versions of these dlls from http://opticks.org/downloads/ivy-repo/opticks/idl64/1.0.0/idl64-win64-release.tar.bz2, they are located at _bin\idl-patches6.4_ in the archive. These patched dlls are sufficient to fix the problem for IDL 6.4, IDL 7.0 and IDL 7.0 if you copy them over the dlls in your _C:\Program Files\ITT\IDL[version]\bin.x86_x64_ folder.

New Features

• A new Band Binning algorithm, available from the General Algorithms menu, allows binning and averaging of bands to aid in reducing the dimensionality of imported images. (OPTICKS-765)
• A primary raster element can now be associated with and georeferenced by an IGM file. (OPTICKS-767)
• The following enhancements have been added to all plots (OPTICKS-893):
  1. A new mouse mode toolbar is available containing buttons to activate the available mouse modes.
  2. A new Toolbars menu is available on the context menu, allowing available toolbars to be shown or hidden individually.
  3. Capability now exists to zoom in/out on a plot with the mouse wheel, independently from the current mouse mode. The zoom direction adheres to the value defined in the options.
  4. The existing capability to zoom in/out by pressing the middle mouse button is now available independently from the current mouse mode.
  5. Directional panning is now available by pressing and releasing the middle mouse button, independently from the current mouse mode.
• The following enhancements have been added to histogram plots (OPTICKS-893):
  1. Capability now exists to switch between a linear scale and logarithmic scale for one or both axes, with an optional capability to link the plot scale type with the contrast stretch type for a raster layer.
  2. The list of bands to display in the context menu for a raster layer now displays wavelengths for each band, if available.
  3. For a raster layer histogram, the currently displayed band can now be modified with the existing keyboard shortcut defined in the options for a spatial data view.
  4. For a raster layer histogram, custom contrast stretch configurations can now be saved/restored from a new Stretch Favorites menu on the right-click context menu.
  5. While in the "Adjust Stretch" mouse mode, the raster layer brightness can be adjusted by shifting the stretch region when left-clicking and dragging the mouse with the Shift key pressed.
  6. While in the "Adjust Stretch" mouse mode, the raster layer contrast can be adjusted by scaling the stretch region when left-clicking and dragging the mouse with the Ctrl key pressed.
• Custom contrast stretch configurations can now be saved/restored from the raster layer page in the Options dialog and also from the raster layer Properties dialog. (OPTICKS-893)
• All core plug-ins now have input and output argument descriptions in the Wizard Builder. (OPTICKS-913)
• The Zoom and Pan to Point dialog now allows the user to pan based on pixel coordinates, even if it is georeferenced. (OPTICKS-966)
• Classification markings can now be viewed/edited for each data element individually. The classification can be changed from a new Classification tab in the Properties dialog for a data element. (OPTICKS-1051)
• A view now has a separate classification from the primary raster element. The view is initialized to the classification of the raster element when importing a raster data set, but after that the classification of the view must be changed independently from any data element. The classification can be changed from a new Classification tab in the Properties dialog for the view. (OPTICKS-1051)
• Center wavelength information from NITF files which contain asymmetric band wavelength information (specifically the NOM_WAVE field in the BANDSB TRE) will now populate the Opticks wavelength metadata. (OPTICKS-1062)
• The Generic HDF5 Importer now supports loading datasets with SZIP compression. (OPTICKS-850)
• The Generic GDAL Importer now supports loading HDF4, HDF5 formatted files. (OPTICKS-933)
• The Opticks installers will now default to a classification marking level of Unclassified and to not display the classification banners in spatial data views, plot views and product views. (OPTICKS-1077)

Bug Fixes

• Fixed problem with GenericHdf5Importer opening multiple HDF files with the same internal dataset names. (OPTICKS-108)
• ENVI Importer, Generic Importer, and SIO Importer now validate the file size for all processing locations on import. (OPTICKS-228)
• The NITF Importer no longer displays image segments marked as NODISPLY by default. They are still available for display via the Import Options dialog. (OPTICKS-369)
• Fixed performance slow down that resulted with large zoom percentages in a Product View. (OPTICKS-384)
• Displaying a dock window in a tabbed format now correctly activates the dock window being displayed. (OPTICKS-461)
• The list of most recently used (MRU) files is now much faster for NITF images with DES metadata and uses less disk space. (OPTICKS-533)
• Fixed performance slow down during access of the File menu for the first time and during application shutdown. (OPTICKS-533)
• Metadata for NITF images with DES data no longer attempts to display the binary DESDATA and DESSHF data, resulting in much faster response from the application. (OPTICKS-533)
• Changing the default temp directory no longer changes the default message log directory. (OPTICKS-596)
• Classification markings text in a product now appears correctly when the default origin is set to lower left. (OPTICKS-670)
• The classification text for a product can no longer be edited in the Properties dialog. (OPTICKS-671)
• The text for a frame label object can no longer be edited by double-clicking on the object. (OPTICKS-671)
• The correct raster layer stretch type and units value is now checked on the histogram plot context menu when modified outside of the plot. (OPTICKS-929)

• Fixed a problem with rotation caused by multiple presses of the north up button. (OPTICKS-974)

• Incorrect error messages no longer appear when starting the OpticksBatch application for plug-ins that only support interactive mode that execute on startup. (OPTICKS-1123)
• The correct threshold layer pass area and units value is now checked on the histogram plot context menu when modified outside of the plot. (OPTICKS-1124)

Extension Developer Changes

• New signal PointsChanged was added to AoiElement. This signal only notifies when the selected points within an AOI change.(OPTICKS-55)
• New signal ObjectChanged was added to GraphicGroup. This signal notifies when the property of an object is changed. (OPTICKS-55)
• All session items in the Session Explorer now support dragging with the new "application/x-sessionitem-id" mime type containing the unique text string identifier for the session item. (OPTICKS-177)
• DataVariant serialization now fails if StringUtilities::fromXml fails. (OPTICKS-589)
• The name of the configuration settings for mouse pan sensitivity has been changed; default .cfg files should be updated. (OPTICKS-893)
• The MousePanEnabled signal on the SpatialDataView object has been removed and replaced with a MousePanEnabled signal on the View object. (OPTICKS-893)
• The View::ClassificationChanged signal is now emitted with a const Classification* value instead of std::string. (OPTICKS-1051)

• On Windows, Opticks extensions and all third party dependencies must now be built using Visual C++ 2010; any edition including Express is sufficient. The SDK documentation will be updated for the final 4.6.0 release. (OPTICKS-933).

• The dependencies management system used (previously dependencies.py) has been replaced with a system that uses Apache Ivy. The dependencies are now hosted in an Ivy repository on opticks.org, see http://opticks.org/downloads/ivy-repo/opticks/. For details on using the system, you can run Dependencies/dependencies.sh or Dependencies\dependencies.bat from a downloaded SDK. To use the new dependency management system a Java installation of Java 1.4.X or later is required on your system. The new system provides download caching, platform specific downloads to minimize the download time and the ability to mirror the dependencies into new Ivy repositories. (OPTICKS-933)
• The pre-built dependencies have been organized into a different directory structure which more closely matches established industry practice and mostly removes the need to add custom include and library directories for each dependency. (OPTICKS-933)
• The validateDefaults(), validateDefaultOnDiskReadOnly(), and validateBasic() methods in RasterElementImporterShell have been removed. ImporterShell now defines a new enum that is used in conjunction with a new getValidationTest() method that allows importers to select one or more default validation checks that can be performed by ImporterShell. RasterElementImporterShell now provides a default implementation of getValidationTest(). (OPTICKS-228)
• Const and non-const versions of a new getClassification() method have been added to View that return the Classification instance now stored in the View. (OPTICKS-1051)
• SecurityMarkingsDlg has been replaced with ClassificationWidget, which is a QWidget that can be embedded in other widgets. Plug-ins creating an instance of SecurityMarkingsDlg will now need to wrap an instance of ClassificationWidget in a dialog. (OPTICKS-1051)
• The DataAccessor has two new functions getColumnDataAsDouble(), getColumnDataAsInteger() which results in faster execution than using ModelServices::getDataValue() and nearly as fast as using the switchOnEncoding macro. (OPTICKS-993)
• Renamed ConfigurationSettings::getSessionSetting() and associated functions to getTemporarySetting() to indicate their transient nature and added additional comments that these settings are not saved/restored during session save/restore. (OPTICKS-457)
• Added a new Data Variant class, Binary Large Object (see Blob.h), for efficient serialization/deserialization of vector<unsigned char> data. (OPTICKS-533)
• Changed NITF DESDATA and DESSHF fields to use the new Blob class. (OPTICKS-533)
• Improved the documentation for the Classification::setFileReleasing() method. (OPTICKS-1097)

Bug Fixes

• A bug has been fixed which caused a VERIFY error when deleting data elements which are in multiple layers. (OPTICKS-1024)
• Moved the GraphicTextWidget.h and FontSizeCombBox.h files into the SDK. (OPTICKS-1119)
• The ScriptingWidget will now properly disconnect from Interpreter instances. (OPTICKS-1126)
• For plug-ins using the legacy loading mechanism ( these plug-ins are colored blue in the Session Explorer ) the names of the exported C functions were changed to avoid collisions with new functions provided in Visual C++ 2010. (OPTICKS-933)
• The signature of Hdf5IncrementalReader::selectElements has changed because of source-breaking changes in the HDF5 dependency upgrade. (OPTICKS-933)

• This release has been updated to work with the new changes to the Scripting Window. (EXTRAS-116)
  • The existing "IDL Interpreter" wizard item is now deprecated, please use "Run Interpreter Commands".
  • You can now paste multi-line comments into the Scripting Window
  • Error and output text from IDL are now displayed in the Scripting Window, previously only error text would have been shown if both were printed out.
  • When executing IDL code in a wizard the error return code was set depending on whether any error text was printed. Now, the error return code is set based upon whether !ERROR_STATE was set.
  • The *.pro files can be dragged and dropped onto the IDL tab of the Scripting Window. You can also omit the Interpreter Name when using the Run Interpreter Commands wizard item if a file with an extension of *.pro is provided.

• This extension is supported in any version of Opticks 4.5.X that is Opticks 4.5.0 or later.

New Features

• The opticks module has been collapsed. This means that all of the sub-modules under opticks have been removed and the classes and types in the sub-modules have been moved into the opticks module. Because of this change, the opticks_q module has been removed. If you were using the opticks_q module, you can replace with the opticks module. This change is source breaking. (EXTRAS-101)
• The RasterElement class provides better support for NumPy arrays and using the extended slice syntax. Please see the data_array read-write property. This change is source breaking. (EXTRAS-99)
• The API was changed so that directly using RasterElementArgs, DataPointerArgs and DataAccessorArgs is no longer necessary, resulting in more compact code. In addition, the existing constructors were made to have a single purpose with new class methods added to those classes that had a dual purpose constructor. This change is source breaking. (EXTRAS-100)
• This release has been updated to work with the new changes to the Scripting Window. (EXTRAS-115)
  • The existing "Python Interpreter" wizard item is now deprecated, please use "Run Interpreter Commands".

• The classes, types, method and properties have been renamed to follow the Python coding standard (PEP 8). In this process of doing this conversion, some names were shortened or a more compact name was chosen. This change is source breaking. (EXTRAS-92)
• In general, no argument functions or methods were replaced with properties to maintain a consistent style in the API. This change is source breaking. (EXTRAS-91)
• The API was changed so that functions and methods return the appropriate leaf class (e.g. RasterLayer, ThresholdLayer) instead of the common base class (e.g. Layer) in order to remain consistent with Python conventions. (EXTRAS-96)

  • Locate pixels in the spatial data view for selected library signatures in the displayed list of matches.

  • Edit contents of the spectral library used for matching.

Opticks 4.5.0 has been released on November 30th, 2010.

This release is intended to replace 4.4.1 as the recommended release.

The Opticks 4.5.0 release is binary incompatible with any 4.4.X release. Any extensions built for Opticks 4.4.X will need to be re-built against 4.5.0 in order to work with any 4.5.X release. Once an extension has been built against 4.5.0, it will continue to work without changes on any later 4.5.X release.

New Features

• The capability to subset bands has been added to the Image Chipping Window and the Preview via a new "Advanced..." button. (OPTICKS-766)
• The Image Chipping Window and the Preview now contain a tool tip indicating the spatial area to be chipped. To view the tool tip, hover the mouse over the "Advanced..." button. (OPTICKS-766)
• The capability to automatically georeference a raster data set on import has been added. Options are available in the Options dialog to enable georeference on import, select the georeference plug-in, and to display the latitude/longitude layer. The default options are to perform the georeference, use the georeference plug-in determined by the importer, and to hide the latitude/longitude layer. Existing wizards that import a data set and georeference it separately should be updated as needed based on the default options. The GCP List input node of the GCP Georeference plug-in wizard item has changed type from string to GcpList. Previously existing wizards using this item should be updated to use the new plug-in item. (OPTICKS-890)
• Added a new statistics display to the histogram window which is accessible from the histogram context menu. This display shows minimum, maximum, mean, and standard deviation values for the displayed band. (OPTICKS-519)
• Added the ability to calculate and display a histogram and statistics for an arbitrary subset of bands over an AOI or the entire image. This is accessible from the raster layer sub-menu in the view context menu. (OPTICKS-519)
• The Generic Hdf5 Importer will now load 2 dimensional datasets from an HDF5 file as a 1-band BSQ image. (OPTICKS-849)
• The Scripting Window will now display standard output and standard error at the same time. (OPTICKS-815)
• The Scripting Window will now display output text as it is received. (OPTICKS-815)
• The Scripting Window has a new option on the right-click menu, "Global Output Shown" to display output from scripts that are run as part of a wizard. (OPTICKS-815).
• The Scripting Window now supports pasting multi-line text. (OPTICKS-815)
• The Scripting Window now supports dragging and dropping either text or a filename onto a given tab. When dropping a filename it must have an extension that is supported by the given tab. (OPTICKS-815)

Bug Fixes

• Added improved warning for editing metadata related to security markings. (OPTICKS-327)
• The Activate, Copy, Convert, Delete, Export, and Properties commands now correctly appear as necessary on the layer submenu of the right-click context menu in a spatial data window. (OPTICKS-61)
• Fixed a memory leak related to loading and unloading wizards. (OPTICKS-516)
• The application no longer crashes when changing the type of an existing DynamicObject metadata attribute. ( OPTICKS-986)
• Fixed a bug in the movie exporters where an error occurred when the export options dialog is created and the export resolution is set to Use View Resolution. (OPTICKS-1044)
• The accept/reject radio button selection for license agreements now works properly when installing multiple extensions simultaneously. (OPTICKS-1017)
• Some crashes related to calculating statistics and histograms on machines with 8 or more cores have been fixed. (OPTICKS-778)
• Users can now load signed char data using the ENVI Importer if they select "signed char" from the data type field on the Data tab of the Import Options dialog. (OPTICKS-1033)

Extension Developer Changes

• The Xerces dependency has been updated to version 3.1.1. (OPTICKS-516)
• The XQilla dependency has been updated to version 2.2.4. (OPTICKS-516)
• The GDAL dependency has been rebuilt against Xerces 3.1.1. The version has not changed. (OPTICKS-516)
• The GCP List input argument of the GCP Georeference plug-in has changed type from std::string to GcpList. (OPTICKS-890)
• The MovieExporter/Width and MovieExporter/Height configuration options have changed. They are now int types instead of unsigned int. The default values are now -1 which have the same meaning as the previous 0 values and indicate that the resolution of the exported view should be used. If you override these options in a .cfg file you will need to change the type attribute to int. (OPTICKS-1044)

New Features

• The Xerces, XQilla, and GDAL dependencies have been updated. The Xerces and XQilla binaries have new names. (OPTICKS-516)
• Any code that subclasses MultiThreadedAlgorithm should be updated to use the new mta::getNumRequiredThreads() function. (OPTICKS-778)
• The dependencies scripts in the SDK will now download the dependencies from http:://opticks.org/ instead of https://opticks.ballforge.net/. (OPTICKS-1063)
• RasterLayer::readFilterBuffer() has a new required argument that returns whether alpha values have been included in the returned vector. (OPTICKS-1020)
• The classes required to implement an interpreter for Opticks have changed significantly. The new architecture is source breaking. Please read both InterpreterManagerShell and the Interpreter interfaces in the SDK. (OPTICKS-815)
• Raster Element importers that wish to provide a better auto-georeference plug-in than GCP Georeference should implement the new function getGeoreferencePlugIn() on RasterElementImporterShell. (OPTICKS-890)
• The SessionItem::getDisplayName() has a new optional boolean argument that can be used to simplify code that prefers to use the display name but wishes to fall back on the full name if the display name has not been set. (OPTICKS-1016)
• The ElidedButton and ElidedLabel classes have some new convenience functions. (OPTICKS-1016)

Bug Fixes

• The mta::Cube class was removed, it was previously deprecated. ( OPTICKS-519)
• LargeFileResource::open will now fail if using the O_TEXT flag on Windows due to problems implementing a cross-platform readLine method. The readLine method works correctly on Windows when files are opened with the O_BINARY flag. (OPTICKS-411)
