I know an installation of this proportion is not very realistic for a wedding, but I love the idea of taking an everyday object like tape and making it into something beautiful. The possibilities are really limitless and it goes to show you might just have everything you need for a fun project for your wedding right at home. I especially adore the invitation they sent out to guests…

The designer, Kathryn Blackmore, is an amazing illustrator, fashion designer, and accessories creator. Her work is modern and yet whimsical all at the same time which if you haven’t noticed from reading Once Wed is a pretty hard combo for me to resist.

While browsing through her archives, I came across the DIY below and couldn’t wait to share it with you here on the blog. I’ve seen some pretty amazing shoes in the wedding blogsphere recently, but unfortunately most of them are way out of my budget so I became a bit giddy when I discovered this tutorial she put together inspired by Chloe’s recent Autumn line…

I had never seen anything like it before and thought it was absolutely beautiful. Hannah and Dave were married almost 5 years ago, but looking through their lovely images it is clear to me they were definitely ahead of the times when it came to throwing a DIY wedding on a budget. I absolutely adored Hannah’s description of their celebration…

We were young, ridiculously, maybe even naively in love, with no money. It was low key, handmade and included feathers, sandals and a barbecue. It was specially special because of our friends and family who pitched in for every SINGLE part of the day. The invites were designed by us, screen printed on to fabric, then sewn by my mister on to pieces of card. The dress was the weddings only extravagance…Georgio Armani. Worn with colorful jewelery and flat pink sandals. Flowers being way out of our budget, I turned to my old friend fabric scraps and literally covered the church and reception grounds with bunting and ribbon.

The bride, Camille, was also kind enough to send over some details from their wedding…

We got engaged in Paris earlier that year (2009), hence the French theme and we really wanted to have a wedding in the South of France, but it was not really a feasible option. The grounds at the hotel always reminded us of Provence, down to the petanque court, so The Parker, with its unique design and fun atmosphere, felt like a suitable choice. And of course, now we have a yearly excuse to go back.

More than having a real genre, this shoot is defined more by a few elements and themes that we were loving in the moment…vellum, lace, and the color blue. Paper vellum was our primary material since it afforded us all the craftiness of paper in the elegant form of vellum. Joy was inspired by all the white paper installations around and wanted to make a chuppah/installation for the ceremony piece from various types of paper and vellum. And, we’d like to add, real candles were used for the shoot, but you can also always use electric tea lights if your worried about using real candles underneath the chuppah during the ceremony…

Bird and Banner created the most adorable set of invitations based around hearts, vellum, and kraft paper…

The headpiece was actually a vintage necklace which we fashioned around Chelsea’s head and attached the veil down the back. Her dress was handmade out of all these different pieces of vintage lace courtesy of Hippie Bride.

If you are interested in learning more about how we put the chuppah together, below is a more detailed sketch of the structure. Molly, the visual merchandiser for shopSCAD Atlanta, was kind enough to construct the chuppah for us. We ended up going with the sketch in the top right image and weaved 1 piece of wire every 5 inches going down the diagonal piece of wood to create the layered look you see above. We literally just threw different pieces of cut paper across each wire and stapled each paper in place to create the finished look.
