After a long wait, the much anticipated Chumby has finally launched in the UK care of everyone’s favourite gadgeteers – Firebox!

Shaped like an early model TomTom – the Chumby is the device for you if you ever feel slightly nervous when away from a digital display for more than a few minutes. You can situate the touchscreen Chumby in places where you would normally be in danger from being away from your Facebook page or Twitter feed, e.g. a kitchen or bedroom (we would say toilet but as it’s mains only that may be slightly impractical).

Think of it as a ‘widget’ ripped from your monitor and placed inside a small form factor (roughly the same size as early generation TomTom sat nav devices). The Chumby gets it’s content via WiFi (so obviously you will need a wireless broadband router) and there’s a slew of available widgets (apps) to download for free onto the device (~1500 at the last count).

Most popular social web sites have a Chumby widget, and with it new released in the UK expect the British developer community to step up interest in UK specific widgets. Some of the best widgets include ones for these services:

Believe it or not, the iPod is not the only MP3 player out there.

Sure, Apple may have the hype machine firmly under it’s control, but let’s not forget there’s a whole slew of companies producing damn fine alternatives (such as our personal fave, the Cowon S9.

And when one, such as the iRiver B30 wins a group test of MP3 players on Channel Five’s Gadget Show we start to sit up and take notice.

Pitched as a contender to the recently revised Nano, the iRiver B30 certainly has a lot to live up to – and it certainly does that and a whole lot more.

The headline feature of the iRiver B30 has to be it’s adoption of DAB+ radio – already popular in Europe, DAB+ is expected to make serious inroads into the UK soon. In the meantime, you can listen to tunes via the excellent built-in FM radio.

Never mind the cult Yank hit known as the Chumby – this is Britain’s answer and it wipes the floor with it in every way possible!

Featuring a luxurious 5.7″ touch-screen, the Pure Sensia mashes up traditional radio players with the Internet via WiFi, meaning that as well as grooving along in your kitchen or bedroom to the radiio station of your choice you can also access (via custom Sensia Apps) information from the Internet, such as keeping up with your friends on Facebook or Twitter, or even more mundane activities such as weather and news.

The Pure Sensia internet radio doesn’t forget it’s a radio at heart though, and those guys from Pure sure know how to make a great sounding system. If you do manage to get bored of the radio stations, you can still attach your iPod with an optional iPod Dock.
