Engagement Date
3rd Feb 2013

City
Sydney

Engagement Details
In our uni days, Rameez often took me to a place called Rosebay, which is by the harbour and there is this spot hidden within the bush where a lone bench sits and gazes out into the vast beauty of Sydney’s waters. We used to come here fantasise about our future and of course have a bit of a make out sessions! After we left uni we rarely visited this spot. On the night Rameez proposed, he took me out to a wonderful dinner in Double Bay and afterwards insisted he wanted to take me our spot since we had not been in a long time. As we fought our way under a thick blanket of stars on a very cold Winter’s night, I was a bit scared of walking in the bush afraid to be attacked by a possum hehe … once we found our bench it was absolute bliss cuddling up and talking about where had the 8 years gone … all of a sudden Rameez stood up and I thought we were ready to leave but instead to dropped onto one knee, held and kissed my hand and began to tell me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him – I was in absolute ecstasy and when the ring made contact with my finger I felt like such a princess. In between tears and more tears I said yes and the next thing I know we were on our way to the airport and he had a surprise holiday planned to the Whitsundays … a seriously felt like such a dream!
Wedding/Reception Details
The ceremony was everything I had imagined it to be; elegant, emotional and exciting. My dog Honeybun was our ring bearer and he did such an impressive job on the day! My husband’s vows brought me to tears as he gazed deeply into my eyes and promised me a future full of love, laughter and lots of beautiful memories. As the harp was floating around the venue with it’s celestial tones, all I could think about was that I wish I could have this moment and relive this moment for all eternity. As I walked arm in arm with my beautiful best friend, my mother and with the most kindest and gentlest soul I have ever known, my father, down the aisle towards the very handsome man of my dreams surrounded by all the people we love, it felt like we were immersed in an enchanting fairytale.

The Tea Room Gunner’s Barracks is the epitome of beauty perched on a hill surrounded by lush bushland and adorned with the most stunning views! We entered our reception to the sound of loud energetic drums and everyone got up and enjoyed the beats as we arrived as husband and wife. The food was amazing, our guests were beautiful and the speeches were so heartfelt – The speeches, especially my Daddy’s and my Husband’s speeches – they were extraordinary, extremely touching and full of love – there was seriously not a dry eye in the house

I was quiet surprised by this comment. What do you think? Have you had similar experiences where you decided not to get married in India or your home country because of cost?

Wedding Date : 26th January, 2012

City : Sydney

Wedding/Reception Details :

A colourful Pakistani wedding in Sydney.

The Lead Up:
Dance rehearsals for the mehndi/sangeet night started almost six months prior to event. Both sides were well equipped with talented friends, and made the mehndi night one of a kind!

Dholki’s (pre-wedding events) also started some four months prior to the wedding. Lovely family & friends hosted get togethers where there was lots of singing and dancing. It made the wedding experience a whole lot more fun & exciting!

Events:
There were five main events consisting of two Mayoun’s (for the bride and for the groom) the Mehndi event, Nikkah/Rukhsati and Valima.

Each event was different in its own ways. Some had colour themes, whilst others were all about dancing and enjoyment.

Mayoun:
Mayoun marks the start of the main festivities of the wedding. Both the bride and groom have a separate mayoun – it’s an occasion for the close family and friends of each to celebrate with him/her.

On the Mayoun for the bride (Zainab) she was dressed in a Yellow jamawar outfit, with fresh flower garlands and also head piece/earrings. She went for a traditional look. The theme was green and everyone but the bride was green. Looked fabulous !

Similarly, a Mayoun for the groom (Jalal) was held where a lot of Ubtan was used for celebration purposes! Jalal wore a aqua blue shalwar kameez which was also from Pakistan. There was singing/dancing on both occasions!

The Mehndi:
Months of handwork and a lot of effort was put into this function. Held in the famous Bowman Hall with its huge capacity and plenty of dancing area, this night promised to be a spectacular show. The girls from the brides side were all dressed in Purple and Golden lenghas which were specifically designed from Pakistan, and they all wore the same jewellery. To compliment the girls, the boys from the brides side also wore navy blue and golden shalwar kameez’s. When dancing to songs such as Ayvi Ayvi, the ambience was superb and the feel of the event was awesome.

The boys from the groom’s side wore red shalwar kameez with yellow dupattas and looked dashing as they made their way in the hall with the dhol wala..They’re outfits were also ordered from Pakistan. The ladies from the groom side had ‘red’ as their colour theme, and together as they all entered from the stairs of the Bowman Hall it was a spectacular viewing and a great way for the Larke wale to enter as the brides side greeted them with floral kajre (for ladies to wear on their wrists)

Shaadi:
Held on Australia Day, this was the day of the wedding. It was hosted by the bride’s parents. The signification of this event is that the bride and groom are officially married once the Nikakh is done, and the bride goes home with the groom ‘during the rukhsati’. The Nikkah was recited by Maulana Bilal Dannoun. There were some entertainment followed by the customary traditions. Held at Star’s Palace reception lounge, the shaadi event was beautiful!

Valima:
This beautiful function was held by the Grooms parents and was the final event of the grand wedding. Held at Paddington Town Hall, the ambience, the food, everything was fantastic. The bride and groom appeared as a married couple for the first time, there was entertainment, cake cutting and lots of dancing! A photo/video shoot for the bride and groom occurred prior to the valima function starting. This was held at The Rocks area in the heart of Sydney’s harbour!

Overall, it was an absolute dream wedding. The couple were blessed to have relatives & friends attend the wedding from Pakistan, US, Canada & interstate. Lifelong memories have been embedded in the heart.

Wedding Outfits
The brides outfits were made to order from Pakistan.

On the wedding, the bride wore a red gharaha made from a bridal dress maker in Karachi Pakistan. It was a traditional red coloured outfit also known as ‘Anar Red’ with a dash of green through it. It was filled with stone and intricate work all over.

The brides Valima lengha was made to order from Islamabad Pakistan. It was a beautiful blue lengha with a dash of purple through it filled with beautiful stones. It sparkled all night!

The grooms’ outfit for the wedding was ordered from a famous boutique ‘Amir Adnan’ from Karachi and the Valima suit was from Arthur Galan.

The first and the most important thing that create the look and feel of the wedding is its stationery. It brings out them theme, personality and charm of the wedding and all its functions. What better to make it look the way you want with co-ordinated stationery at every step?

There is a myth that invitations are limited to sending out the day and time of the ceremony and are only a mode of giving information. But, in reality they are a perception builder for the guests and also a first preview to the touch and feel of the upcoming event.

Other than the invite itself there are a few other things that can wonderfully complement your day.

Save your date: A small note to inform guests from interstate and overseas about the upcoming wedding to help them plan their trip. This serves two purposes 1. It’s about announcing the news to guests in advance and it does not require the venue and other logistics to be finalised so can be sent couple to get the dates locked.

RSVP: A card that ensures that every one who received the invitation lets the couple know if they would be attending the wedding. It gives you a check in advance for planning the function and catering.

Wishing Well: At times the couple desires that the guests to contribute towards a specific thing, for e.g. setting up their new home. They can send a wishing well card along with the invite to let people know what would be the best gift to give and saves the guests thinking over it endlessly.

Ceremony Booklet/Order of Service: A detailed booklet highlighting the people involved in the ceremony (bride and grooms side) and the importance and order of the rituals happening. It helps the event to run smoothly with every one aware of what’s happening around them.

Guest Seating Chart: A chart that can be put outside the function hall that tells the guests their seating pattern inside to avoid confusion and to smoothly run the ceremony.

Guest Book: A small token of love, usually put outside the reception/function hall where the guests can jot down their comments, ideas, love and notes for the newly wed couple. A fun thing to have as a keepsake for the couple.

Table Cards: To allocate seating, the names of the guests are put as a card on the tables to ensure every one gets a seat next to people they know/like

Menu and Table number: The menu for the event and table number can also be customised as per the theme of the event

Favour tags: Small tags with a little note can be tied to the favour to be given to the guests by the couple, it’s a lovely thing to do to make the gift more personalised.

Thank you Card: Every couple and their families want to thank the guests for being a part of their wedding and this can be done by posting a customised thank you note after the wedding.

Yes, the wedding can be organised without these details as well, but these small elements make the wedding complete. It is a belief that getting coordinated stationery items end up being very expensive, but like everything else these can be easily customised to suit your budget and taste!

So, why not use these ideas to make one of the most valuable days of your life wonderful without making any compromises.

Hen’s and Buck’s Parties are the done thing for couples getting married. It’s the last hoorah with your individual friends before settling down as a couple and doing things together. I attended a friend’s hen’s night after a long time and it was good FUN with the girls! I had forgotten the joy a topless hot, young male waiter and some funky moves can bring to a gathering of ladies, whether you are married, single, a mum or in between. There’s also a hen’s cake to be cut by the bride – that’s something new for me. Never mind the shape, it was tasty with creamy icing. I am not saying no to a good delicious chocolate cake. All good nights involving dancing and music and I believe that’s how this one ended.

There are some hen’s who like to keep it classy. That’s perfectly fine too. It can be a bit expensive with activities if guests are asked to pay but its different. There are so many options from weekend aways to classes of all sorts – cooking, painting, pole dancing! And for real nerdy girls, there’s computer games parties and massage for pamper princesses.

Buck’s parties - Well in the main, I think its’s the guys that are getting tamer these days with more male group bonding activities and ditching the female clubs and strippers. I guess it maybe a case of been there, done that so let’s do something different for a change. Bring on the paint ball and laser skirmishes, fishing trips, boys weekend away of go carting, race driving and anything dirty and filthy. Let’s get real, this is our last chance before the lady of our homes and hearts starts planning our days and starts telling what we have scheduled for the weekend. And ladies we do this, we know it!

You are engaged? Now what? Family and friends are asking for the wedding date and you just want to enjoy being engaged.

So when you do you start planning your wedding. Firstly, RELAX. Enjoy being engaged for a week or two.

Then consider what you and your partner want and more importantly your BUDGET. Planning a wedding with a budget in mind will not only narrow down your search of suppliers and venues but also save many arguments and tension with loved ones. More couples are deciding to get married sooner rather than later with more spontaniety.

How many guests do you and your families want to invite? There is a direct correlation between number of guests and budget. Also, are you inviting children, remember in some cultures and families its considered rude to exclude children.

So when should you start planning your wedding? Answer at www.facebook.com/OZShaadi
