Os novos cachecóis já estão, finalmente, na loja.
Há novos modelos plissados, incluindo o de tweed preto e branco que a Eva usa nesta foto e outros dois em cores mais vivas.

Dos tecidos japoneses, surgiu uma edição limitada que resultará em cachecóis até ao final dos pequenos rolos que me chegaram às mãos. Gosto muito destas peças, não só pelas cores e texturas, mas também pela história que cada um incorpora. Afinal, cada um daqueles pedacinhos já fez parte de um quimono que esperou cinquenta anos para chegar aqui, do Japão.

O cachecol comprido que publiquei anteriormente, será peça única e ~~também está disponível aqui.~~

The new neckwarmers are now in the shop.

There are new pleated models, including the one Eva is wearing in this photo and two more in bright colours.

From those japanese fabrics, came a limited edition of neckwarmers that will last until the end of those very small rolls. I really like these pieces, not only for their colour and textures, but also for little bit of history in each one of them. After all, those little pieces were once part of a kimono that waited 50 years to get here from Japan.

The long scarf that I blogged about previously, is one of a kind and it ~~is also available here.~~

Encomendo frequentemente coisas do Japão, mas nunca me tinham enviado um mapa do metro de Tóquio. Achei bonito.

Também gostei desta fita adesiva ilustrada com bons conselhos, que hei-de usar em susbstituição da tradicional fita castanha. Não atar os cordões numa porta giratória parece-me uma excelente ideia.

I order things from Japan all the time, but I never got a Tokio subway map before. I thought this was a nice touch.

I also liked this "Good Advice" sticky tape, that I'm going to use as a replacement for the usual brown tape. "Don't tie your shoes in a revolving door" sounds like an excelent advice to me.

Apesar desta imagem da Eva com um dos novos cachecóis, que me agrada muito, hoje foi um dia relativamente frustrante.
Habituo-me às longas horas que o Verão me oferece e, quando vejo o sol a escapulir-se às 17.00h, sinto-me como se tivesse sido apanhada de surpresa.
Tantos cachecóis para fotografar, e a luz não chegou para todos.

Pior ainda: não posso teletransportá-la para aqui, amanhã, para continuar a sessão e vou ter que me desenvencilhar sozinha. Não que não o tenha feito até agora, mas odeio usar-me como modelo, tendo em conta que prefiro estar do outro lado.

E depois, sinto-me como se tudo se atrasasse continuamente. O que não terminei hoje, fica para amanhã, e o que devia ser feito amanhã para depois e por aí fora.

Grrr. Frustração.

Although I really like this photo with Eva and one of the new scarves, today was somewhat frustrating.
I always get used to the long sunny hours during the Summer, and when I see the sun setting at 5 p.m. I feel surprised, and not in a good way.
So many scarves to photograph, and there just wasn't enough light to finish them all...

The worst part is that I can't have Eva again tomorrow, so I'll have to manage on my own. Not that I haven't been doing that, but I hate "modelling", considering that I rather be on the other side of the camera.

And then there's this feeling of being always late. I didn't finish this today, so I'll have to do it tomorrow, and what I was going to do tomorrow will get done the next day, and so on.

Grrr. Frustration.

Enquanto continuo a digitalizar alguns negativos da última viagem, parece que a Polaroid recuou um pouco e vai produzir mais máquinas instantâneas. Mas nada de película, no entanto.

A pedido do Eduardo, depois de ter publicado a gravata que fiz para o Nuno, fiz um conjunto também para ele.

Escolhi tecidos completamente diferentes da primeira vez e alterei um pouco o molde.
Duas delas foram feitas em lã, mais próprias para usar no Outono e no Inverno, porque achei que usar este tecido, tão invulgar em gravatas, lhes dava um toque muito especial.
Uma outra é em linho, e a minha preferida é em lã virgem, leve e com um acabamento muito sedoso.

Ambos concordamos que, na época do pronto-a-vestir, fazer e receber uma peça integralmente cosida à mão, feita especificamente para nós, é ainda mais especial.

Eduardo asked me to make a set of ties for him, after I published the one I made for Nuno.

I chose completely different fabrics from the first one, and I also changed the pattern a bit.
Two of them are made of wool, wearable only in Autumn and Winter, but I thought that using this kind of fabric, so unusual in a tie, would turn it into something really special.
For one of the others I used linen, and my favourite one is made out of virgin wool with a silky touch.

We both agree that in this "pret-à-porter" time, making and receiving something completely sewn by hand is even more special.

É para isto que têm servido os rolos de papel higiénico cá em casa.
Não sei como é que ele se lembrou disso, mas têm a dimensão certa para germinar sementes, deixam a terra respirar e são compostáveis.

Depois de investigar o paradeiro da pessoa que me revelava os rolos por um preço aceitável na cidade (parece que falhei uma carreira promissora como inspectora da PJ), e depois de resolver o problema da digitalização dos negativos sem ir à falência, começo a ver algumas das fotos que fiz na última viagem.
O scanner é que ainda não está domesticado, mas desconfio que só vai lá com a prática. Muito, muito devagar.

O lado positivo desta espera toda é que já me tinha esquecido das fotografias que tinha tirado, e por isso é uma boa surpresa encontrar, inesperadamente, imagens de que gosto.

After investigating the whereabouts of the person that used to develop my film for a reasonable price (I missed a promising career as a detective), and after solving the scanning issue without filing for bankrupcy, I'm starting to see some of the photos I made in the last trip.
The scanner needs to be tamed, but I guess I'll get there with some practice.

The bright side of such a long wait, is that I had pretty much forgotten about these, so it's been a nice surprise to find photos I like, while not expecting them.

No fim-de-semana fomos dar uma volta de tandem, pela ecovia do Rio Lima.
A bicicleta foi alugada logo no centro da vila, junto ao Mercado Municipal, e o percurso foi lindo de se fazer, pela margem do rio, e por entre campos onde se fazia a vindima e a colheita do milho.

Na semana passada fizemos ainda outro passeio mais especial. Através do Centro Equestre do Mezio, organizamos um percurso a cavalo pelo meio do Parque da Peneda-Gerês.
Para uma pessoa como eu, que nunca tinha montado um cavalo, fazê-lo pela primeira vez para andar pelo meio de bosques, num percurso irregular de subidas e descidas através de montes, foi excepcional.

Como sugestão para um futuro programa a decorrer um pouco por todo o Alto Minho, as Comédias do Minho, companhia de que já falei a propósito das peças do "Contra-Bando", volta à acção com a "ARRIBAÇÃO", uma peça de teatro que terá como palco 25 cafés dos cinco municípios do Vale do Minho.

This weekend we went for a ride in a tandem, near the Lima river. The bycicle was rent in the town centre and the views were beautiful, in between the river banks, and the fields where corn and grapes were being cropped.

Also, last week, we had a very special tour. Through the Centro Equestre do Mezio, we had a horseback ride through the Peneda-Gerês Park. For someone like me, who never rode a horse, doing it for the first time through the middle of the woods and going up and down hills was really exceptional.

As a sugestion for something to do here in Minho, Comédias do Minho, a theatre company I talked about a few months ago, is back in action with their new play, ARRIBAÇÃO, that is going to take place in 25 different cofee shops throughout Minho.

Mais uma colcha para um bébé que aí vem, com cores e padrão inspirados por esta que fiz anteriormente.
Apesar de não ter usado lã no verso, como de costume, optei por um algodão cardado, que é muito mais quente que o normal, mas sempre com o toque simples do algodão.

Another quilt for a baby yet to be born. The colours and pattern were inspired by this quilt, that I made last year.
Although I didn't use the typical wool in the back, I found this cotton that is warmer than usual, but still with the simple touch of cotton.

Há garranos, bosque com sombra e erva fofinha, cursos de água e vista longínqua.
Também há má sinalização do percurso pedestre, mas não teria visto o pôr do sol sobre montes verdes e enevoeirados se não nos tivéssemos desviado uns quilómetros da rota marcada, no trilho da Mesa dos Quatro Abades.

There are wild horses, woods with fluffy grass, water courses and big views.
There's also a poor signaling for the pedestrial route, but I would'nt have seen the sunset over the green foggy hills if we hadn't diverted a few miles from the track.

Pintei a mesa e as cadeiras de azul e cinzento (que na foto parece branco).

Ao contrário do que pensava de início, não me é nada difícil encontrar cores para combinar com o roxo das paredes. As peças maiores que temos na sala são brancas, por uma questão de equilíbrio, mas o roxo aceita muito bem os apontamentos de cor que vamos acrescentando.

Quando chegou a altura de pintar as paredes, depois de semanas de discussão em que não conseguíamos chegar a acordo sobre tinta alguma, esta foi a única cor que gerou consenso.
Em adição ao azul da Prússia, é uma das minhas cores preferidas, quando pouco saturada e sem reflexos vermelhos.
Acho-a verdadeiramente acolhedora.

I painted the table in blue and grey (although it looks white in the photo).

Unlike what I thought at first, it's very easy to find colours to coordinate with the purple we have on the walls. Most of the furniture we have is white, for balance reasons, but this purple colour handles small colour details very well.

When we thought about painting the walls, after weeks of discussion about the colour, this tone of purple was the only one that we both liked.
Along with Prussian Blue, it is one of my favourite colours, as long as it is very desaturated and with no red undertones.
I just find it really cosy.

Tecidos japoneses dos anos 50/60, em seda, algodão e lã.
São demasiado pequenos para tudo o resto, mas não lhes resisti, porque são perfeitos para uns cachecóis destes ou talvez destes, um pouco maiores.

Acho que preciso de um para mim, mas ainda não escolhi a cor.

Japanese vintage fabric, from the 50s and 60s, in silk, cotton and wool.
They're too small to do almost anything else, but I didn't resist to buy them because they are perfect for these scarves, or maybe for a pair of these.

I need one for myself, that's for sure.

Se em tempos passados quem se casava tinha direito a casa mobilada, hoje não posso dizer que conheça muita gente com esse privilégio.
Começar com a casa praticamente vazia, ou remediada com peças das ex-casas de estudantes é mais próximo daquilo que eu conheço.

Fazem-se transformações em mesas de cozinha e cadeiras de escritório. Vamos encontrando peças numas lojas, outras em feiras, e pontualmente, recorre-se à Ikea.
Fazem-se colchas, almofadas e os acessórios que forem necessários.

Depois de terminar a arca, ganhei alguma disponibilidade para pintar, finalmente, a mesa e as cadeiras da sala. Foram peças adoptadas repentinamente, por necessidade, e que nunca cheguei a substituir porque não consigo desfazer-me de mobília nova e manter a minha consciência limpa perante o desperdício.

Não vou fazer nada de tão elaborado como da última vez, mas deve resolver o problema da cor amarelada da madeira e as ferragens pretas das cadeiras. Ugh!
Passados quatro anos de cá estarmos, posso dizer que a coisa começa a ficar composta.

If years ago, when a couple got married, they were bound to have a completely furnished home waiting for them, today I don't know many people that has that kind of privilege.
Starting out with an empty house, or partially furnished with pieces from our student homes it's more close to what I know.

We do makeovers on tables and office chairs. We find some pieces in small shops, others at the flea market and, every now and then, just go to Ikea.
We make quilts, pillows and whatever accessories we need to make it more cosy.

After finishing the chest makeover, I finally got around to start painting the dinner table and chairs. These were some of the pieces that were involuntary adopted by us, but that I never got to replace, just because I feel bad about dismissing new furniture (even if it is hideous).

I'm not going to do something as elaborated as the last time, but it should take care of the ugly colour of the wood and the black iron. Ugh!
After four years, things are finally starting to take shape around here.

Uma data de negativos revelados e à espera de serem digitalizados.
Uma Polaroid que veio inesperadamente carregada com um cartucho de fotografias, já afectado pela passagem da validade, mas muito divertido de usar.
Uma lente manual Super-Takumar, encaixada na digital, que, apesar da minha dificuldade em focar por causa da miopia, produz resultados que me agradam muito.

E pouco espaço para guardar o material que se vai acumulando, apesar de achar que ainda preciso de mais uma coisinha ou duas...

I've got...

A lot of developed film ready waitin to be scanned.
A Polaroid camera that came unexpectadly with film inside, somewhat affected by time, but still a lot of fun to use.
A Super-Takumar lens fitted in my digital, with a really nice feeling to work with and results I really enjoy, in spite of the time I take to focus (I'm severely nearsighted).

And not enough room to keep all this junk that keeps piling up, although I think I need one more thing or two...
