2010 North Myrtle Beach Christmas Regatta

The Annual Intracoastal Christmas Regatta will be held Saturday, November 28th from 5 - 7 pm. The boat parade begins at Tilghman Point and cruises along the waterway from Little River to Dock Holidays Marina in North Myrtle Beach. Any location along the Intracoastal Waterway between Little River and Dock Holidays will provide an excellent view of the regatta.

Help make Christmas better for less fortunate families by droppin off a new toy for the children of Horry County at collection points in Little River or North Myrtle Beach. With your donations of new, unwrapped toys and/or monetary offerings, we can reach our goal….to make sure there is not a single child without a present to open on Christmas morning. Myrtle Beach announced today that Porter Airlines will begin twice weekly direct flights between Myrtle Beach Internation Airport (MYR) and Toronto City Centre (Island) Airport (TCCA). Flights are scheduled to begin February 28th, 2010 and continue through May 30th. One-way fares are available to reserve now via FlyPorter.com and $179 & up (plus taxes & fees).

According to a recent Wall Street Journal article by Sarah Nassauer...

For the past year or so, many travelers have become accustomed to seeing hotel and resort rates progressively plummet. Savvy consumers waited until the last minute to snatch the deepest discounts. But, now, industry watchers say hotels and resorts have unloaded their sweetest offers early and hotel prices are likely to stay relatively stable during the next few months. By the middle of next year, they may even start to inch up.
"I think we may have hit bottom," says Jan Freitag, vice president at Smith Travel Research. "There will still be deals permeating the general environment" in 2010, he says. "But they are not here to stay" throughout next year.

What a gorgeous day! It's 81 outside and I just had lunch in the park... now back to work. There's plenty of fun stuff going on at the beach over the next few days. If you're in town next week, be sure to take in the "Taste of the Town" on Tuesday the 27th. In its 26th year, this is the Grand Strand's largest social culinary event of the season. Domestic Travel Pays Off for South Carolina

Here are a few statistics and observations from the lastest SCPRT economic reports.

* Domestic Travelers spent nearly $9.9 Billion in S.C. in 2008, up 1.7% from 2007.

* Domestic Travel directly generated 113,800 jobs in S.C. in 2008.

* Domestic Travel expenditures in S.C. generated nearly $1.5 Billion in tax revenue.

* Horry County, led by Myrtle Beach's Grand Strand, received more than $3.1 Billion in domestic travel expenditures to lead all S.C. counties. This was almost double the amount received by Charleston County, the #2 recipient.

Family Fun Comes to Ocean Boulevard

This Saturday, August 1st, the O.D. Pavilion and Amusement Park will open to the delight of many visitors and locals. The park is located by the Main Street Horseshoe at 90 South Ocean Boulevard. Family fun is nothing new to this site – it was the home for the old O.D. Pavilion of the 50s and 60s.

Rides include a Ferris wheel, giant swing, a carousel and bumper cars. Lots of fun is in store for the kids with a circus train, tea cup ride, dinosaur ride and kids’ roller coaster. There will be all sorts of games and festival treats – funnel cakes, popcorn, candy apples, cotton candy and more.

The Pavilion and Park will be open through Labor Day weekend this year with plans for a full summer season in 2010. Scheduled hours of operation are from 4 to 11 p.m. but may vary with seasons. There is no admission fee. Instead, each ride has its own ticket requirement. Ticket prices are $1.25 each and ticket booklets are available.
