          <title>Hiding Email Addresses from Spambots</title>
          <description>&lt;p&gt;Below are sites, systems and code showing different ways to hide email addresses in markup (HTML) from the automated robots that capture an email address from a Web page to use or sell to spammers.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Add your favorite methods or opinions by scrolling down the page to Add Your Comment.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1. From Anet Dunne:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/strong&gt;This is how I have been hiding Email addresses for several years. It validates XHTML Strict&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;div&gt;(The name Anet is a link that when clicked on will open a new email message in your email program and display the entire email address.)&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;To see code, go to: &lt;a target="_blank" href="http://heresmine.com"&gt;http://HeresMine.com&lt;/a&gt; and View Source in the browser to see the code above the dotted line.&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2. From&amp;nbsp;Bruce Philpott:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;At North Bay Internet Society this evening, we were discussing hiding email&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;addresses from spambots.&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Here's a solution I copied from someplace (with permission):&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;lt;script language=javascript&amp;gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;lt;!--&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;var contact = &amp;quot;bp&amp;amp;#64;brucephilpott.com&amp;quot;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;var email = &amp;quot;bp&amp;quot;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;var emailHost = &amp;quot;brucephilpott.com&amp;quot;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;document.write(&amp;quot;email: &amp;lt;a href=&amp;quot; + &amp;quot;mail&amp;quot; + &amp;quot;to:&amp;quot; + email + &amp;quot;@&amp;quot; +&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;emailHost+ &amp;quot;&amp;gt;&amp;quot;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;+ contact + &amp;quot;&amp;lt;/a&amp;gt;&amp;quot;)&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;//--&amp;gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;lt;/script&amp;gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;The changeable items above are:&lt;br /&gt;
var contact = &amp;quot;bp&amp;amp;#64;brucephilpott.com&amp;quot; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 0); "&gt; [your email address]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
var email = &amp;quot;bp&amp;quot;&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 0); "&gt;[your email name]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;var emailHost = &amp;quot;brucephilpott.com&amp;quot;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 0); "&gt;[your domain]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;strong&gt;3. From&amp;nbsp;Abby Krumel:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Here is what I've tried. It has worked so far, and I'm not hearing any complaints from the client lately.
&lt;p&gt;This is the basic code on the page.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Send an email to &amp;lt;a href=&amp;quot;mailto:nospam@domain.com&amp;quot;&amp;gt;Jane Smith&amp;lt;/a&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This is the forwarder in the web host cpanel:&lt;br /&gt;
nospam@domain.com  to jsmith@sonic.net&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;My plan is to change the the mailto name whenever the spam levels rise again. Then delete the forwarder, and add a new one for the new name.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;4. From Janet Zagoria:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;The Enkoder Form (Hivelogic)&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://hivelogic.com/enkoder/form"&gt;http://hivelogic.com/enkoder/form&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Directions for The Basic Form&lt;br /&gt;
Examples what to fill in the fields:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Email address&lt;br /&gt;
janet@aol.com
 &lt;br /&gt;
The email address to enkode (e.g. you@example.com)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Link text&lt;br /&gt;
janet@aol.com
&lt;br /&gt;
Text people will see on the page (e.g. &amp;quot;Email me&amp;quot;)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Link title text
&lt;br /&gt;
Email Janet
&lt;br /&gt;
Seen when mousing-over the link (e.g. &amp;quot;Click to email me&amp;quot;)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Email subject (optional)&lt;br /&gt;
From My Home Page
&lt;br /&gt;
An optional subject line for the email&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;When the Submit button is clicked, the above produces the below code (script). This script is inserted into the same spot where your mailto would go. You can use span tags around it if that is your CSS system.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;lt;script type=&amp;quot;text/javascript&amp;quot;&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
//&amp;lt;![CDATA[&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;!--&lt;br /&gt;
var x=&amp;quot;function f(x){var i,o=\&amp;quot;\&amp;quot;,ol=x.length,l=ol;while(x.charCodeAt(l/13)!&amp;quot; +&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;=50){try{x+=x;l+=l;}catch(e){}}for(i=l-1;i&amp;gt;=0;i--){o+=x.charAt(i);}return o&amp;quot; +&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;.substr(0,ol);}f(\&amp;quot;)79,\\\&amp;quot;700\\\\310\\\\100\\\\020\\\\230\\\\t\\\\W230\\\\&amp;quot; +&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;010\\\\^]R630\\\\CALl_OGIM030\\\\700\\\\xVEp}P8z}s}K.V5chvit\\\\[[+020\\\\4&amp;quot; +&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;20\\\\020\\\\?M610\\\\400\\\\010\\\\-C030\\\\220\\\\}66%320\\\\n%,(!+26|,P^&amp;quot; +&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;520\\\\UXTsEJCJC530\\\\JWMv|v;K(ut}e+h;'+o220\\\\130\\\\610\\\\120\\\\400\\&amp;quot; +&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;\\300\\\\\\\\\\\\400\\\\000\\\\t\\\\700\\\\530\\\\500\\\\310\\\\600\\\\\\\&amp;quot;&amp;quot; +&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;(f};o nruter};))++y(^)i(tAedoCrahc.x(edoCrahCmorf.gnirtS=+o;721=%y;++y)79&amp;lt;i&amp;quot; +&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;(fi{)++i;l&amp;lt;i;0=i(rof;htgnel.x=l,\\\&amp;quot;\\\&amp;quot;=o,i rav{)y,x(f noitcnuf\&amp;quot;)&amp;quot;         ;&lt;br /&gt;
while(x=eval(x));&lt;br /&gt;
//--&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
//]]&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/script&amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Another method, although not nearly as good, is an:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Email Address Obfuscators&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.albionresearch.com/misc/obfuscator.php"&gt;http://www.albionresearch.com/misc/obfuscator.php&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.wbwip.com/wbw/emailencoder.html"&gt;http://www.wbwip.com/wbw/emailencoder.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;These use HTML entities. (Google this term if you need to see the list.) Each character has an equivalent entity but the obfuscator does not turn all letters into their entities. Even if it did it would not make it any more powerful.&lt;br /&gt;
janet@aol.com produces:&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;a href='&amp;amp;#109;a&amp;amp;#105;l&amp;amp;#116;o&amp;amp;#58;jan&amp;amp;#101;t&amp;amp;#64;%&amp;amp;#54;1ol&amp;amp;#46;%&amp;amp;#54;3&amp;amp;#37;6Fm'&amp;gt;jane&amp;amp;#116;&amp;amp;#64;aol&amp;amp;#46;&amp;amp;#99;om&amp;lt;/a&amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;You can figure this out on your own if you have the list of entities but it takes forever to do.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If you want a&amp;nbsp;Captcha method, you can go to:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Captcha code creator&lt;/strong&gt;, PHP captcha script&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.captchacreator.com"&gt;http://www.captchacreator.com&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

          <title>Chron Article: Apple's success brings scrutiny</title>
          <description>&lt;p&gt;News reports last week that Apple Inc. may be the target of an inquiry by either the Department of Justice or the Federal Trade Commission underscores a new reality: Apple is hardly the underdog anymore.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;After years of playing a distant second in the personal computer operating system market, Apple has reshaped itself as a major force in mobile computing with its iPhone leading the charge. That, in turn, is drawing new scrutiny of the company and may force Apple to change its approach from scrappy challenger to an emerging market leader...&lt;/p&gt;

          <title>HTML5 Mania: Examples and Tutorials</title>
          <description>&lt;p&gt;I linked an article in an earlier post about Scribd abandoning Flash for HTML5 but I hadn't gone to their site. I went to Scribd and other HTML5 related sites and here are some interesting things to look at:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If you go to the Scribd site (http://www.scribd.com) and scroll down to click on the thumbnails under &amp;quot;Explore: Scribd in HTML5,&amp;quot; you will see they show them in HTML5 but also let you see them in Flash. You can see the difference the way they display.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I also discovered a site that is dedicated to showing HTML5 sites: http://html5gallery.com.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;From HTML5 Gallery, I clicked on the below example and it is hard to believe this home page is done in HTML5 without any Flash (also has jQuery):&lt;br /&gt;
http://www.circuitounimedrio.com.br&lt;br /&gt;
(From Brazil so it's in Portuguese but you don't need to understand the language to see what it does.)&lt;br /&gt;
Once at this site, on the Home page, hover over the gray golf ball-like circles.&lt;br /&gt;
After two more click-throughs, it eventually takes you to a larger Flash movie.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Off the HTML5 Gallery, there is also a HTML5 Doctor site: http://html5doctor.com.&lt;br /&gt;
On the HTML Doctor site, the Article Archive button takes you to tutorials.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

          <title>List of Tech Blogs, etc.</title>
          <description>&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;O'Reilly Web 2.0 Expo sent me a survey Thursday since I went to it on Wednesday, 5/5. In the survey it asked what Websites, blogs, or publications I visit.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The list of them was good, some I know, many I didn't or forgot about. They just had the names, no URLs. Since I wanted to go to all of them to see which ones I was interested in to bookmark, I thought I would share with all&amp;nbsp;of you the list with their URLs.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Some of the same topics I saw on several of them. One topic was the announcement by Scribd at the Web 2.0 Expo that they are dropping Flash for&amp;nbsp;HTML5:&lt;br /&gt;
