After a brilliant 2011 season, racing a Tony Kart for Scott Conway Racing and Bob Abbadie, out of Stockton, California, it was time for Amber to take the next level to assure her future in racing. She will join Bob Falcone and his experienced crew in 2012, combining a total of over more than 90 years of experience in kart racing.

“I can’t thank my 2011 team enough for all the success we had and the championship win. I would have loved to continue to have the relationship I do have with these great people,” says Amber. “But in order to do what I need to do, I needed to make the switch to another kart manufacturer. Bob Falcone made me an offer I could not refuse: racing a Tag Package for Eurokart Racing Swiss Hutless North America.”

Amber will be running the Gearup Challenge series on the East Coast and the Northern California Rotax (Redline Oil Series/Cameron Karting) on the West Coast. She will also make her first appearance in the Rotax Grand National.

Bob Falcone: “We can’t wait to work with Amber in 2012 because of her passion and success in racing, she breathes racing. Her determination is unrivaled. Her wanting to learn every detail that could make her faster is fascinating to her and something that she feels she must never stop learning. We hope that working with us and our driver coach from AP Racing and Driving School, will net her results both here and when she races without us back home in California. We will do our very best to work with her tuner and father Peter Friedberg.”

The Swiss Hutless North America team can not be associated with what the factory will do in 2012, as each continent is responsible for its own racing programme and its driver selection, but the technical partnership with the factory and Manuel Renaudie is a daily ongoing correspondence.

Bob Falcone: “We hope to provide the factory with good data as well as them supplying us with the same.”

2012 will also be a huge change for all the manufacturers as no more ‘sticky’ tires will be allowed at any CIK race. “This is something that in our opinion needs to be adapted immediately in North America but honestly it will never happen,” Bob adds.

Amber will use the Swiss 1 and Swiss 2 chassis. She will have both designs at her disposal. The Swiss kart manufacturer has won the Mexican Rotax Championship 2 years running with each design, as well as the U.S. Rotax Masters class on a Swiss 1.

Amber Friedberg: “I’ve had several offers from some of the best chassis manufacturers. Swiss Hutless has had, and continues to have great success in Europe and here too in the United States. It’s a chassis where you can put your seat in, attach your engine and be at the top out of any racing field. Our goals are to run well, podium finishes, wins; just doing the best we can as a team effort! I’ll also partner with Special Spaces and create awareness for this non-profit organization building beautiful bedrooms for children with life threatening illnesses!”

Amber’s future ambitions are clear: to become a race car driver. “Karting is giving me the much needed fundamentals to wheel a car around. I would love to drive open wheel or Grand-Am/world challenge racing!”

The 2011 race season wrapped up at the Simraceway International Karting Center at Infineon Raceway this past weekend. Several class championships were on the line with tension building as the race day unfolded. The weather played a factor with Saturday practice first on a dry track, then a damp track as some rain started to come down and by the end of the day, the real wet stuff had arrived. Sunday morning dawned with no rain, but a damp and foggy track meant qualifying would be on a slick track. In the first heat race, the drivers were racing on a dry track. But the pressure of the championship race was evident throughout the day as points are earned from both heat races as well as the main. The start call-offs were much higher than normal due to drivers jockeying for position to try to get that little edge to get a better position exiting turn one.

GoPro Feature Race: Junior Rotax
Junior Rotax was the featured GoPro race with the race winner taking home a GoPro HD Hero Camera. The last race saw the largest field of racers this season with the championship still to be determined. Maxx Marian came into the race with a seventy point lead over Zack Dante. Dante took his third pole in a row with Marian sharing the front row. In the first heat, Dante took the lead as they exited turn one with Marian falling back to fourth. In the end, Dante took the win, Justin Yanez second, Enzo Mestre third and Marian fourth with his championship lead cut down to fifty-five points. In the second heat, Dante took the lead again and Marian got shuffled back again to fourth. Dante dropped a wheel and was passed by Mestre and Yanez forcing Dante to settle for third. Mestre took the win, Yanez second, Dante third and Marian fourth with his championship lead reduced to fifty points. In the main, things got all mixed up just after the drop of the green. Dante was on the pole with Marian starting in fourth. As the karts entered turn one, some pushing and shoving made three karts go sideways with Marian and Jaden Conwright coming out of the tangle in front. Dante, Mestre and Yanez were left to recover and get back in the chase. Dante put his head down and slowly caught Marian to take over the lead. Marian put in his best drive of the day with Mestre and Yanez getting by Conwright and Will Preston. In the end, Mestre and Yanez could not make up enough ground and had to settle for third and fourth respectfully. Dante took the win by three seconds and with it took home the GoPro HD Hero Camera. Marian came home second and still had a twenty-five point lead to win the class championship. Mestre came home third and Yanez fourth.

80 Masters
Roger Cornwall and Charles Hastings went into this last race knowing if one of them won, the winner would take home the 80 Master crown. In qualifying, Cornwall took the pole over Tom Nelson and Hastings. In the first heat, Nelson took the lead early on with Cornwall right behind. Nelson still had an outside chance for his fourth class championship with a sweep of all the races and some racing luck going his way. Nelson held the lead for the win, Cornwall second and Hastings third. In the second heat, Nelson again took the early lead with Cornwall right behind and Steve Cameron in third. Cameron then slide by to take over second then got by Nelson to come home the winner with Nelson second, Cornwall third and Hastings fourth. At the drop of the flag for the main, Cornwall lead the field out of turn one with Nelson right behind and Cameron staying close in third. The entire race had all three drivers nose to tail with Nelson looking for the opening and Cameron waiting for a mistake by the leaders. In the end, Cornwall took the win and the championship with Nelson in second, Cameron third and Hastings fourth. In the final class points, it was Cornwall on top, Hastings second and Nelson third.

Rotax Masters & Masters Light
With six Masters and three Masters Light karts, the two classes ran together with the Lights starting just ahead of the Masters in a slip start. The focus was on the Lights battle with Mary Beth Wilson and Stephan Gaudreau still in a battle for second in the championship. Cameron Evans locked in his Rotax Masters championship at the Dixon race and chose not to race. In qualifying, Wilson took the pole ahead of Gaudreau with Pretti taking the Masters pole ahead of Peter Boot. In the first heat, Gaudreau took the early lead with Wilson making a pass to take back the lead and was never challenged to take the overall win. Pretti took the Masters lead and controlled the race. A great battle behind Pretti took place with Geoff Wise passing Scott Ripslinger early on to take second. In the end, Ripslinger took second back by the end of the heat. In the second heat, Gaudreau took the lead over Wilson out of turn one. Wilson searched for a way by, but in the end had to settle for second. Ripslinger took the lead of the Masters class as they exited turn one. Pretti waited his turn to retake the lead and drive on to the win, Ripslinger second, and Greg Hoff taking third in his best drive of the year. In the main, Gaudreau took the early lead again with Wilson in close pursuit. All that time behind Gaudreau paid off for the 2010 Lights champ, she took her time and when the moment was right, she made the pass. Gaudreau did not give easily and stayed near Wilson’s rear bumper, but could not get close enough to make the pass. In the end, Wilson took the win, Gaudreau second and Carol Brown third. With the win, Wilson wraps up second in the series with Gaudreau taking third. In the Masters race, Pretti took the early lead and was never challenged. Wise challenged Ripslinger the entire race, but in the end had to settle for third, one second behind Ripsliger.

Sanzaru Games Rotax Mini Max
The Mini Max championship was already determined, but like all junior classes, the five drivers did not sit back and take it easy, they were all out to win. Horatio Fitz-Simon took his first ever pole ahead of Annie Breidinger and Michael Michoff. In the first heat, Fitz-Simon took the early lead, with Michoff and Annie Breidinger close behind. Michoff got by to take the lead, but Fitz-Simon hounded the soon to be class champ the entire race with Annie Breidinger looking for a way by to take a position away from Fitz-Simon. In the end Michoff took the win, Fitz-Simon second and Annie Breidinger third, all three within one-half of a second. In the second heat, Annie Breidinger got by Fitz-Simon early on and she and Michoff started to pull away from the pole winner. Annie Breidinger took the lead with a pass at the end of the straightaway and the nose to tail battle continued. With a couple of laps to go, Michoff made an inside pass at the bottom of tic-tac-toe and just barely took the win over Annie Breidinger with Fitz-Simon third. In the main, Michoff took the early lead with Annie Breidinger following him through the inside of turn one to take over second from her third starting spot. The two top Mini Max drivers started to pull away from the field. Annie Breidinger stayed on Michoff putting the pressure on him to make a mistake, but Michoff made no mistakes and went on to the win with Annie Breidinger second and Fitz-Simon third. For the win, Michoff received $50 cash, Annie $30 and Horatio $20 from Sanzaru Games. In the championship, Michoff takes the winner’s crown, Annie Breidinger second and Fitz-Simon third.

IAME TaG & TaG Senior
The spec gear IAME class has had a solid year of participation. For this race, only five drivers entered due to the threat of rain, but the second through fourth drivers in championship points were here to do battle. In the qualifying, Darrin Geahry took the pole followed by Michael Torrano and Tazio Ottis who was in the only TaG Senior kart in the field. In heat one, Geahry took the lead followed by Torrano and Bryson Guzman. Ottis had a slow start and had to work his way back through the field and in the end got by Guzman to take over third. In the second heat, the pack got into some bumping in turn one after the drop of the green flag with Ottis coming out first followed by Torrano and Geahry and that is how they stayed to the end. In the main, Geahry and Ottis pulled out a small lead in the first part of the race with Torrano and Guzman in a battle royale right behind the leaders. Guzman and Torrano swapped places several times. When they ran through the fast back sweeper, the two touched just after the kink and both spun off. Torrano was able to recover but Guzman’s race was over. Geahry continued to hold a slim lead over Ottis and came home the winner, his first ever feature win. Ottis took second and the win in TaG Senior with Helmar Beregszaszy (IAME) third overall and Torrano fourth overall. With the race results, Torrano finishes the year in second and Guzman finished up third overall as class champ Don Rocci sat this race out.

DD2 Masters
With DD2 Masters champ Michael Ostrowski using this event as a throw away race, the field was down to four drivers. In qualifying, Andre Eriksen took the pole ahead of Dave Moody and Bob Olson. In the first heat, Eriksen took the lead out of turn one and was never challenged with Moody second and Olson third. In the second heat, Eriksen once again took the early lead to win. David Palic came home second and Olson third. In the main, Moody got under Eriksen in turn one on the opening lap and held onto the lead for about four laps. Eriksen then came out of tic-tac-toe with a great roll and was able to out brake Moody into turn five. Eriksen then pull away quickly and cruised to a fifteen second lead at the checkered flag. Moody drove a strong race and pulled away from Palic to take second, with Palic finishing third. Eriksen will end the year second in the championship with Moody taking the third spot for the year.

125 Stock Moto – S2 & S4
Two S2 karts and four S4 karts took to the track. In qualifying, Jason Toft (S2) took the pole followed by Nick Galante (S4), Jim Inglebright (S4) and Brad Shaffer (S4). In the first heat, Toft took the lead out of turn one with Galante second and Inglebright third. Inglebright’s kart rolled better late in the race and was able to make a good pass on Galante to take over second and the class win. In the end, Toft took the win, Inglebright second, Galante third and Daivd Arnstein (S4) fourth. In the second heat, Toft again took the lead out of turn one followed by Galante and Inglebright. Galante pushed harder this heat and did not let Inglebright get close enough to make a pass, thus Toft takes the win followed by Galante, Inglebright and Arnstein. In the main, Toft and Galante went into turn one side-by-side which allowed Inglebright to sneak down the inside of turn one in the lead. His lead was short lived as Toft passed Inglebright at the end of the first lap and was never challenged. Galante stayed close to Inglebright, but could not get close enough to make a pass. Toft took the win and the S2 championship, Inglebright second, Galante third overall and Arnstein third in S4. The S4 class standings finished with Inglebright taking the championship, Galante second and Arnstein third.

Senior Rotax
Coming into this last race, the top two drivers, Niki Luna and 2010 champ Carlos Calderon were separated by just five points. What better way to have a great shootout than to have Luna take the pole and Calderon beside him on the grid. Sean McDonald, who had an outside shot for the championship qualified third with Tazio Ottis fourth. In the first heat, Luna took the lead at the drop of the green with Calderon and McDonald in close pursuit. Luna controlled the front of the race staying just out of the reach of Calderon preventing any thoughts of a pass from his closest rival. Luna took the win, Calderon second, McDonald third and Ottis fourth. In the second heat, some bumping and grinding accompanied the dash to turn one with Luna coming out in the lead followed by Calderon, McDonald and Jarrett Lile. The heat finished in that order, with Calderon just short of enough speed to challenge for the win. The main now came down to a winner take all for the championship. At the start, Luna lead into turn one with McDonald right on his bumper and taking over second ahead of Calderon. At the end of the straight on lap two, Calderon slipped under McDonald to take over second. Calderon then reeled Luna in a bit over the next half dozen laps, but by lap ten, Luna started to pull away. Now it was all up to Luna: no mistakes he wins it all, drop a wheel, it would be all over. In the end Luna came home two seconds in the lead, Calderon second, McDonald third and Lile fourth. In the final standings Luna took the class crown followed by Calderon, McDonald and Lile.

Thank you to the racers, family, friends, and especially to all of the RLOKC sponsors for a great season!

Team USA driver Neil Alberico returns to California fresh from a podium finish at the British Formula Ford Festival and tours of several Formula Factories. Neil will share these exciting experiences with all in attendance, a must hear for all aspiring racers!

A native of Los Gatos, Calif., Alberico first started racing karts at the age of 10, competing in IKF region 11 action. Over the course of four seasons (2004-07), the young talent captured the Junior Sportsman, Junior Super Sportsman, and Junior Puma championship titles. In 2008, Alberico first got behind the wheel of a race car, graduating from the Skip Barber 2-day Advanced school at Laguna Seca prior to participating in the Formula BMW recruitment day at Miller Motorsports Park. Continuing to race in the karting ranks while raising funds to pursue a career in motorsports, Alberico won the Snap-On Stars of Karting Series National finale in Las Vegas in 2009, before finishing third in CKI National TAG Senior championship. Alberico built on this success in 2010, winning the TaG Senior class in the WSK North American Series Champion, as well as the Bondurant Championship Race Series, capturing 10 wins in first full season of car competition. As part of the prize package for winning the Bondurant Championship, the teenager tested a Pro Formula Mazda with World Speed Motorsports and a Formula Atlantic Swift 016.a with Finlay Motorsports. In 2011, Alberico made his European racing debut, competing in the world renowned MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain with Irish-based Cliff Dempsey Racing. A top-10 championship result in his maiden FF season subsequently helped the Californian earn one of three Team USA Scholarships.

The Red Line Oil Karting Championship’s Northern California Rotax Challenge (NCRC) made its annual trip to the Dixon track to joins the Kinsmen Kart Club for one of their club races this past weekend. The weather was excellent and the track conditions were fast. As is years past, the Kinsmen Kart club made the NCRC racers feel very welcome. A couple of class championships were wrapped up at this event, but a couple of classes got even closer as the series wraps up at the Simraceway International Karting Center at Infineon Raceway this Sunday’s Red Line Oil Karting Championship season finale.

Sanzaru Games Mini Max
Four drivers took the track with Corrie Hiatt taking his first pole of the year ahead of Annie Breidinger and Horatio Fitz-Simon. In the heat race, Hiatt took the lead at the green with Fitz-Simon getting under Annie Breidinger going into turn one to take over second. Annie Breidinger stayed close to Fitz-Simon applying pressure until she could make the pass coming out of the back turn to re-take second position. Hiatt went on to the win, Annie Breidinger second and Fitz-Simon third. In the main, Hiatt again took the lead at the green and again Fitz-Simon slipped by Annie Breidinger going into turn one. Unlike the heat race, Annie Breidinger could not find an opening to get by. In the end, Hiatt drove to his first RLOKC Mini Max win, Fitz-Simon second and Annie Breidinger third. For the win, Hiatt took home the Sanzaru Games cash prize of $50, Fitz-Simon received $30 and Annie Breidinger $20.

Rotax Masters & Rotax Masters Light
The Masters and Masters Light classes ran together, but with a split start. The Masters class was in the front group due to the fastest qualifying time of Cameron Evans (Masters) with Jerry Pretti (Masters) starting along side. In the front row of the Lights class was David Carlisle and Mary Beth Wilson. In the heat race, Evans took the early lead with Scott Ripslinger moving into second. Pretti made a move early to take back second place and this race order held to the checkered flag with Evans taking the win, Pretti second, Ripslinger third. In the Lights class, Carlisle lead Wilson into turn one and the two ran nose to tail for the entire ten laps. In the end, Carlisle took the win, Wilson second and Stephan Gaudreau third. In the main, Evans again took the early lead and was never challenged to drive onto his sixth win of the season. Pretti stayed close, but had to settle for second with Barry Lee moving up to third when Ripslinger’s kart dropped off in power and had to settle for fifth. The win wraps up the class championship for Evans. In the Lights main, Carlisle took the early lead and again Wilson was close behind looking for an opportunity to make a pass. Unlike the heat race, Gaudreau was right on Wilson’s bumper and she had to split her attention between trying to pass Carlisle and not get passed by Gaudreau. In the end, Carlisle took the win, Wilson second and Gaudreau third.

Junior Rotax
Five drivers took the green with 2010 Mini Max champion Michael Avansino making his first Junior Rotax start. In qualifying, last month’s winner Zack Dante took the pole ahead of Avansino and Maxx Marian. In the heat race, Dante took the lead followed by Avansino and Marian. Avansino stayed close but was not able to see a way by and had to settle for the runner up position. In the end, Dante took the win, Avansino second, Marian third. Things heated up in the main when Avansino got a small jump on the start with the two front row karts bumping and grinding all the way down the straightaway. Avansino got into turn one first and Dante tried a pass midway through turn one. The two karts came together and Avansino went off into the weeds. Dante maintained the lead and drove on to the win followed by Marian and Will Preston. Avansino returned to the track and was making a run to catch up, but had to pull off on lap six. The race ended with a black flag and checkered flag. An official decision on the spin in turn one penalized Dante four positions for his portion of the incident. Thus, Maxx Marian was moved up to the win, Preston second and Jaden Conwright third.

Senior Rotax
With a seven kart field, Carlos Calderon took the pole ahead of Sean McDonald, Jarrett Lile and Niki Luna. Luna entered this race with the points lead, but Calderon was looking to get back into the championship hunt with a solid win. In heat race, Calderon controlled the race from the front with McDonald close behind and Luna making up one position. In the main, Calderon took the early lead again with Luna slipping inside McDonald to take over second with Lile in fourth. Lile’s engine lost power early on forcing him to pull off. With three laps to go, Calderon’s race and championship bid went up in smoke when he dropped a rear wheel coming out of the “bowl” turn. He shot across the track and spun. Luna was close enough that he had to turn hard left to avoid Calderon and spun into the weeds. McDonald drove by Calderon and Luna to take over the lead with Calderon recovering to take second place. Luna was stuck in the weeds for over a lap, but got back on track in sixth place. In the end, McDonald took the win, Calderon second and Andrew Colombini came home a well deserved third. The points lead that Luna had coming into this race is now gone and he and Calderon will face off head to head on Sunday at the RLOKC season finale for the class championship.

DD2 Masters
The two-speed DD2 Masters field had three karts with Michael Ostrowski taking the pole ahead of Bob Olson and Dave Moody. In the heat race, Ostrowski took the lead and never looked back. Moody got inside Olson going into turn one and held off the determined Olson to take second. In the main, again Ostrowski took the early lead and cruised to the win. Olson got by Moody early on and pulled away a bit to take second place with Moody third. With the win, Ostrowski all but wraps up the class championship for this class.

One can find all the results on MyLaps (Rotax Dixon Race dated Oct 29th) and see updated championship points in the results section at www.redlineoilkarting.com. The next RLOKC event is Sunday, November 6th at the Simraceway International Karting Center at Infineon Raceway, where the 2011 season will come to an end.
