brief introduction to Reactive Extensions (Rx), a library that allows
the use of succinct LINQ-based declarative code to combine and
co-ordinate asynchronous and event-based operations.

Main Talk

CQRS:
Command Query Responsibility Segregation is a simple pattern that
describes the separation of command messages, that changes state, from
query messages that read state.

ES: Event Sourcing. The basic idea is that your data storage is based on events instead of current state.

DDD:
Domain Driven Design is the idea of modelling your system with a
domain that is connected deeply with core business concepts.

Andrea
will walk through an example of a system built using these principles.
Of course, to do that , we'll need to understand the principles and the
domain first.
From definitions, to practise. What, and why you should
care about this emerging trend. Does it suit you? I'm assuming some
level of understanding or at least interest on DDD

Agenda
- Definitions
- Commands and Events
- How does it affect your domain Modelling
- Event Sourcing and eventual consistency
- Testing

For more information and to register for this event see http://nimtug.org/events/128/command-query-responsibility-segregation

We’ve got a choice of which talk we want Jesse to present and would like to open it up to the NIMTUG members to vote on.

The options are:

1. Introduction to Application Development With Silverlight 4

This presentation is targeted at .NET programmers new to Silverlight or who wish a review of the fundamentals of building an application in Silverlight 4. Topics will include

Drag and Drop development

Xaml and Code

Layout and Controls

Data, Data-binding, Validation and Async-validation

Templates and The Visual State Manager (Time allowing)

2. Building A Highly Extensible, Decoupled Silverlight Open Source Application with MEF and RIA Services using Lean, Test Driven Development, An International Team of Volunteer Programmers, and lots of Advil.

This talk will use the Silverlight HyperVideo Platform open-source project on CodePlex as a case study in building highly extensible Silverlight applications. Among the topics we will focus on are:

New features in Silverlight 4 and how they made life easier

The Managed Extensibility Framework (MEF) added to Silverlight 4

WCF RIA Services for connection to a back-end db

Handling inter-module communication when the requirements are that modules cannot assume which other modules will be created, there can be no dependencies on order-of creation and unanticipated modules must be able to communicate with existing modules.

Using Markers, Injected Markers and polling to trigger events while viewing a video.

A Quick introduction to Lean, TDD and Kanban

3. Silverlight 4, Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) and Test-Driven Development

MVVM and Silverlight to build test-driven programs

Understanding Refactoring and Dependency Injection

A Walk through of a non-trivial application

If you want to drop us a line at simon@nimtug.org or leave a comment here with your choice.

Simon
