Adorama estimates the Nikon D4 delivery as “late March 2012″

Adorama has updated their Nikon D4 listing with an estimated delivery of late March, 2012:

New item Available for pre-order, Delivery scheduled to start Late March 2012. You may place this on order now and it will be shipped on a first come first serve basis. We do not charge your card until we actually ship the item to you.

I do believe the first Nikon D4 shipment is delayed and Amazon probably did not get the memo.

Nikon at the 2012 CP+ show (pictures, D800 hands-on, D4 demo videos)

As for my impressions, there were a couple things I haven't heard anyone say yet about the new Nikons. Having the dedicated movie record button on top, moving the mode button closer to the flash, puts the mode button just out of reach without moving your hand. It was really surprising to me at first, but I could see probably getting used to it, and it's not a button I use with great frequency, so it's a minor quibble. Overall, the D800E felt really good in my hands, better than my D700 in some ways. The prints from the D800E were up on the wall and you could just walk right up to them and look closely, and the detail held up beautifully. My main beef with it is a marketing one. Nikon says that when the D800(E) is in its crop modes, it masks the rest of the viewfinder to tell you where your view is. This is not the case. It doesn't truly mask it with a 50 percent black like the D3 or D4 do. It just makes a box like the D700. I really wish they had added the higher-end masking.

D800 Hands On (My Take):

The AF points in the viewfinder behave similarly to the D700 (persistent Black rectangles, unlike the D3/s/x/D4's Fading red ones.)
The MB-D12 Battery grip has an alloy shell, properly pro-grade.
The D800 will demand skilled handling technique, the 36 megapixels are extremely unforgiving in terms of motion blur even at 1/100 on an 85 mm lens. (or maybe I was shaking with excitement!!!)
Shutter lag and VF black-out are superfast (especially compared to the D70 that I was shooting with)

Amazon thinks the Nikon D4 will be delivered on February 17th

Contrary to the information I received from multiple sources few days ago about the Nikon D4 shipment delay (which was also reported by several other websites, unless they just recycle what they read here), Amazon just sent emails to certain pre-orders with a D4 estimated arrival date of February 17 and in some cases February 21st, 2012:

Hello,

We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on January 05, 2012 (Order# ***):

"Nikon D4 16.2 MP CMOS FX Digital SLR with Full 1080p HD Video (Body Only)"
Estimated arrival date: February 17, 2012

Maybe Amazon did not get the memo. Or maybe their D4 shipment is not impacted by whatever problem caused the delay.

Amazon has not opened they Nikon D4 pre-orders since they closed them down few hours after the official announcement.

Nikon Sendai to produce 30,000 D800 and 5,000 D4 cameras per month

An interesting article found on bernama.com about the production capacity of the Nikon plant in Sendai:

"With the current 1,600 workers, the factory is producing one unit of camera per minute on a daytime shift with each unit of the D800 variant produced every four hours and the D4 variant every five hours."

The Nikon D4 and D800 are made out of 1,600 components.

Nikon D800 with MB-D12 battery grip

The latest Nikon D800 updates:

Adorama and B&H are now taking pre-orders for the Nikon MB-D12 battery grip for D800 (MS-D12EN battery tray is also available).
Today the CP+ show opened its doors in Japan and the D800 will be on display - see the first image of the Nikon booth. I will have several readers sending me images and reports from the show and I will post them online in the next few days.
Nikon D800 is expected to start shipping on March 18th, 2012 for the US.

Nikon D800 was ready for release in the first half of 2011 but the disasters in Japan and Thailand caused the delay. This image by Rob Van Petten for example was probably taken on July 1st 2011. How do I know? Because of the Empire State Building light patterns - on that date the Empire State was lit with what they refer to as private lighting (blue, lavender, and purple). I was told that the D700 will go down in price in the next few days - in France for example, the price is expected to drop from the current EUR 2,100 to EUR 1,800. I have no confirmation about US prices yet.

First Nikon D4 shipment delayed till March 15th

According to multiples sources, the first shipment of Nikon D4 cameras is delayed. The original date of February 16th is now pushed till March 15th, 2012. The reason for the delay seems to a be firmware bug and not a hardware issue. This appears to be a worldwide delay, not specific to a country or a region. The US press release listed the Nikon D4 availability as "late February".

Nikon 1 firmware v1.11, Camera Control Pro v2.10.0 are out

The just released new firmware version 1.11 for Nikon 1 includes the following fixes (V1, J1 download links):

An issue that sometimes caused images captured using the Speedlight SB-N5 to be over-exposed has been resolved

When switching from framing photos in the monitor to using the electronic viewfinder, or vice versa, with focus mode set to MF (manual focus) and the display zoomed in, the camera sometimes did not function properly. This issue has been resolved (apply only to Nikon V1)

Camera Control Pro v2.10.0 is also released with Nikon D4 support:

Support for the following D4 features has been added.

Shooting at a shutter speed setting of Bulb

Exposure Preview for Photo live view

White Balance (LV) for Photo live view

Specification of Shutter Speed, Aperture, Exposure Comp. and ISO Sensitivity for movie recording

The Movie sub-tab is now an independent camera control tab.
