Washington, DC - The Granulosa Cell Tumour Foundation, New Zealand supported by the Embassy of New Zealand and the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation will host a reception Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 7:00 – 9:30 pm as a part of The Gynecological Cancer Foundation’s Awareness Movement Weekend at Long View Gallery in Washington, DC. This will be the organization’s first United States event.

The event, held in honor of GCTF’s Founder, Sladjana M. Crosley, who succumbed to GCT in April 2009 after a 13 year battle with the disease ,will include hors d’eourves from the world famous Anchor Bar, cocktails, a beer, wine and cheese tasting provided by some of New Zealand’s finest vineyards and creameries, a silent auction with items from DC’s best dining and shopping destinations, and music by The Latin Jazz Project along with a viewing of Long View Gallery’s current collection of works. The Granulosa Cell Tumour Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Auckland, New Zealand performing research and providing support to sufferers of GCT. Granulosa cell tumours are a very rare form of ovarian cancer and therefore have received less attention from researchers. Founded in 2004, the foundation’s mission is to provide women with information and knowledge about the disease while raising funds to support GCT- specific research in order to develop more effective treatments.

Washington, DC (October 26, 2009) — Washington is full of rivalries; politics, sports, socialites you name it there is a battle brewing, but none compare to the age old rivalry of Betty versus Veronica – Blonde versus Brunette. This battle of the ages brings together brilliant brunettes and bombshell blondes for an important cause; to raise attention and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter.

Blondes vs. Brunettes was created because the devastating disease affects so many people. Over 10 million Baby Boomers – our parents and grandparents – will develop Alzheimer’s. And there hasn’t been enough information about Alzheimer’s shared with young adults, which is alarming given the rising percentage of people as young as their 30’s and 40’s being diagnosed. Since its inception in 2005, Blondes vs. Brunettes has raised over $150,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter. This unique charity has brought many of the District’s most prominent young women leaders together to raise awareness about the disease. This year Blondes vs. Brunettes is proud to launch a national campaign, including more than 10 cities across the country hosting their own tumble of the tresses. In four years, BVB has grown to six cities and has raised over $750,000 combined for the Alzheimer’s Association.

“The football season is in full swing and why shouldn’t blondes and brunettes get to have some fun,” says Ryan Triplette, Blondes vs. Brunettes Co-Creator and 2009 Chair. “We know this game won’t cure anyone today or tomorrow but Blondes vs. Brunettes is a creative and fun opportunity to bring together young women committed to helping those with Alzheimer’s. As this game grows with participants and donors and in cities around the country, it will raise awareness and commitment to finding a cure.”

BvB Founder Sara Abbott added, “I lost my father over a year ago to this horrible disease. When I began this event with friends he was my inspiration and I continue to dedicate my efforts to his memory. It is my hope that we can exceed our 2009 financial goal of $100,000 and that one day we’ll live in a world without Alzheimer’s disease.”

Philanthropy gets a new face with PhilanthroChic hosting the fundraiser, Fashion For A Cause. Andrea Leigh and Maggie Griffin, co-founders, will take over the Annapolis boutique Paradigm and raise funds for Hospice of Chesapeake. These ladies have managed to coordinate a community of local retailers, models, musicians, and friends . The funds from ticket sales will benefit Hospice of the Chesapeake's Bereavement Programs to include Camp Nabi and Phoenix Rising. Essentially, these programs assist children in the grieving process due to lost family members in hospice care. Reserve On L The New DC Lounge

The Reserve is the latest resto lounge to hit the District and is quietly making its entrance. DC nightlife guru, Moe Hamdan, had a hand in this restaurant concept and I had to see what the place had to offer. I found a sexy new spot for food, happy hour, wine, jazz, and DC nightlife. Expect a grand opening event on October 8th!

Currently you can stop by and grab a bite inside or on the patio, happy hour 5 pm - 9 pm and catch a live jazz show on Wednesdays between 7 pm and 9 pm.. There are three levels, however, the third level remains under construction and should be available in the coming weeks. The second level features a DJ booth and several leather couches for intimate seating and includes a large flat screen TV. Reserve manager, Kim, said the focus is on the wine selection and intimate setting. A promising change for the L street location that once was home to Ollie's Trolley.

In this second round of Twestival DC nightlife fuses charity and social networking and brings the online to the real world. All proceeds for this event at Midtown Loft will benefit the DC non-profit, Miriams Kitchen. The ticket price of $20 can assist Miriams Kitchen volunteers with preparing meals for area hungry or homeless people.

She told me about her CD and gave me copy at one of the DC Pool Parties. I popped it into my laptop and listened to it as I worked on my tasks and really liked the sound: the voice, the composition the lyrics and the style.
