Step aside HTC One, there’s a new titan to contend with. The HTC Butterfly S, featuring an impressive array of specs, was unveiled today in Taiwan. The HTC One is still considered to be HTC’s flagship Android device, but the those in the know have to admit that the Butterfly S is now the must-have smartphone in HTC’s lineup.

The HTC Butterfly S sports a quad-core 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, 5-inch 1080p (440 ppi) Super LCD3 display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, microSD expansion slot up to 64GB, front-facing stereo speakers with BoomSound audio, BSI UltraPixel camera sensor (we’re presuming 4 megapixels like the HTC One), 2.0 µm pixels size, f2.0 aperture and 28 mm lens for the main camera, 2.1 megapixel shooter on the from with a wide angle lens. To top things off, HTC has bestowed the HTC Butterfly S with a 3,200 mAh battery, enabling 3.5 days of continuous mp3 playback, 25 hours of talk time and an astonishing 659 hours of standby time on while on a WCDMA connection. On the software side, the HTC Butterfly S is running on Android 4.2.2 with HTC Sense 5. This means Butterfly S owners will be treated to features like BlinkFeed, HTC Zoe and the advanced imagine capabilities found in the gallery application.

The HTC Butterfly S is scheduled to make its retail debut in Taiwan in July with a sticker price of NT $ 22,900 ($ 766 USD). We doubt the HTC Butterfly S will be arriving in Europe or North America any time soon (if ever), but other Asian markets should see the phone appear in stores later in Q3.

How do you think the HTC Butterfly S stacks up against the HTC One? Would you be willing to sacrifice the full-metal aluminum construction of the HTC One for a slightly larger screen, expandable storage and a battery that’s guaranteed to last a full day?

We’re taking a quick break from the string of leaked component shots that has dominated iPhone 5S news as of late, turning our attention instead to a line rendering that claims to reveal not just the overall look and size of the iPhone 5S, but also of the lower-cost iPhone we’ve heard rumored, as well.

A manufacturer of iOS device cases provided the image, so realize that no one’s claiming this to be an official Apple creation. Instead, it’s likely a sketch compiled from information obtained through Apple’s manufacturing chain, which case manufacturers turn to in order to get a head-start on production in advance of any Apple announcement.

The iPhone 5S sure looks like we’ve been expecting it to – that is, nearly identical to the iPhone 5. Even the budget iPhone seems to match what little we’ve heard about its design, and in particular the bottom view here is a good fit to the description of the phone’s hardware we heard all the way back in January. Of course, we could have a chicken-and-the-egg situation here: did that rumor possibly help influence the creation of this image?

We’re also not quite willing to put a lot of faith in the name offered up there. It’s iPhone Light in the pic, but even Apple Insider, which first received the imagery, calls it the iPhone Lite, instead. For now, both feel an awful lot like placeholders.

If you can’t wait for the OS X Mavericks release date later this year, you can dive into the Mavericks beta, which is better known as a developer preview.

The OS X Mavericks beta offers a variety of small changes including better multi-monitor support, tagging for system files and system-wide improvements that should boost battery life.

OS X Mavericks should run on any computer that is running OS X Mountain Lion, so there are many machines that users can try out the Mavericks Developer Preview on.

Apple only offers the OS X Mavericks beta to registered developers, but unlike the iOS 7 beta there is no requirement to register a UDID or other device ID with Apple to make it work.

Apple offers the OS X Mavericks Beta download to developers.

Where to Get OS X Mavericks Beta Access

Officially the only way to try the OS X Mavericks beta is to be a registered Apple developer. By registering as a OS X developer users gain access to the OS X Mavericks beta and other developer resources. Users must pay a separate fee to join the OS X Developer Program, it is not included in the IOS Developer Program.

Once registered in the OS X Developer program, users can download a code which allows them to download OS X Mavericks from the Mac App Store.

There are other sources to download the OS X Mavericks beta, but these unofficial sources don’t hold up the software agreement with Apple. If this is not something you care about, they are easy enough to find, and don’t require a $ 8 registration or a payment at this time.

How to Install OS X Mavericks Beta

Installing the OS X Mavericks Beta is fairly straightforward, and is just like installing any major Apple OS X update. If any of these directions seem difficult or sound out of your grasp, you may want to avoid running beta software at this time.

1. Register with the Apple Developer program.

2. Go to the Mac Developer Center, Click on OS X Mavericks and scroll down until you can get a code.

Joaquim Verges, the developer of Falcon Pro, one of the most popular third-party Twitter clients for Android, pulled the app from the Play Store in order to figure out a way around Twitter’s restrictions on number of users.

The app reached Twitter’s 100,000 token limit on Monday, and Verges had to reset the tokens and ask users to re-log in, in an effort to clear inactive tokens and allow new users to make use of the app. Falcon Pro went through the issue before, back in February, and the reset of the tokens did the trick back then.

This time, Verges doesn’t seem too optimistic about the future of his app. As he details in a Google+ post, the 100,000 tokens limit has been reached once again in less than 24 hours, meaning that he will have to look for a new way around the limitation.

The developer warns that the situation could mean the end of Falcon Pro, but hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy one of the best third-party Twitter clients out there once again.

Joaquim Verges thinks that the reason why the token pool was exhausted so quickly after the reset was a landgrab that occurred when people learned about the reset. Also, some users have more than one account, which further uses up tokens.

If you updated your Falcon Pro installation and can’t use it anymore, you can download the .apk file of the previous version (2.0.2). The app is available on Google Drive one (link below) and worked just fine at the time this article was written.

Well, one thing is for certain – Verizon and the @DroidLanding Twitter account are launching a new augmented reality contest that includes the DROID brand and a bunch of robots. A promo video for it all has been posted to Verizon’s YouTube channel, which we have included for you below. We still aren’t exactly sure how it will all go down, but there is a scene at the 16-second mark (captured in the image above) that mentions my online alias (“Kellex”) specifically, and that I’m standing “sentry at the pier.”

Am I now a wARrior robot that will be a part of the contest? Is it just a coincidence and they are referring to someone else? I have no idea, but it’s at least exciting to think about.

I’m not the only one mentioned, though. There are a bunch of other robots featured along with specific locations. It sounds like the augmented reality will incorporate some sort of robot battles, likely using an AR app that can be installed on your phone.

Mentions of D:COM Alpha and DROID Combat appear at the end of the short teaser clip. The contest is supposed to begin in June, so that means any day now.

Yeah, this is about to get awesome.

Update: This may be the app, though it can’t be installed on anything yet.

Out of all the things that were announced at WWDC 2013, we’ll admit that even the things that weren’t shown or announced made some headlines. One of these was the fact that we were never able to see how iOS 7 look son the iPad, and that’s just to prove how early the development stage Apple’s new mobile operating system is. Apple did promise to launch the final version of iOS 7 in the fall for both the iPhone and the iPad, so there’s really nothing to worry about, but if you’re curious to see iOS 7 beta for the iPad, there’s good news.

As it turns out there’s already a leaked video of the tablet version of iOS 7. It seems to be running on either a third or fourth-generation iPad, and even though there are some noticeable bugs, the video does allow us to see how similar and different the iPad’s version of the OS is to the iPhone version. Sadly Apple has still not offered an official date for this beta to reach the public, but we’re sure it’s only a matter of time.

Be sure to share your thoughts on iOS 7 for the iPad. It’s clear that it’s far from perfect, but a step in the right direction for many.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 may be months away from launch but that hasn’t stopped intrepid designers and Android enthusiasts from dreaming up their own Galaxy S5 concepts. The latest Galaxy S5 concept pairs a metal design, something that has already been rumored, with a 16MP camera, and no home button to speak of.

Several weeks ago, Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy S4 unto the world and the device has gone on to sell millions of units around the world in its short existence. Samsung has also produced several other Galaxy S4 branded devices that it has released or will be releasing in the weeks ahead including the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Zoom and Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

Later this year, Samsung will more than likely take the curtain down from around the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, a device that is rumored for September. The company isn’t, however, expected to replace the Galaxy S4 until 2014 when it will likely announce a new Samsung Galaxy S5. And while we are still very far away from the start of 2014 and Galaxy S5 rumors, designers are already coming up with their own take on a new addition to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series.

Read: Samsung Galaxy S5 Metal Design Rumored.

Already we’ve seen some Galaxy S5 concepts emerge from the woodwork and today, we’re sharing another one from Bob Freking who has taken suggestions from fans and put them together in the form of a Galaxy S5 concept video.

A new report says that next year LG will launch a smartphone that will come with support for always-on voice commands.

GottaBeMobile apparently spoke with three different sources familiar with the matter who revealed that the always-on voice-based feature would let users control their device by issuing commands beyond what’s already available Apple’s Siri or Google’s Google Now, and actually navigate the operating system:

In one example, users can speak a voice command to tell Google Maps to pan around and switch views. Users can also tell Google Maps to zoom in or out. This is different from existing voice solutions, which are based mainly for searching, launching apps, and dictating. The navigation of the Android OS by voice will be a new user experience for some people.
GottaBeMobile

The feature can’t be confirmed at this time, but it’s not like we don’t expect future devices to pack such powers.

After all, the Moto X has been confirmed to offer advanced smart features described as contextual awareness. It’s not clear how that would work, but it’s obvious that LG will certainly not be the only company trying to offer more to customers looking for more advanced handsets.

Furthermore, Google also unveiled a sort-of always-on voice-based Chrome-specific search features for its desktop Google Search, a feature that could further be expanded in the future.

Finally, we’re going to remind you that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 flagship processor, due to arrive later this year and power a variety of flagship devices, will have always-on voice support.

The LG Optimus G2 is already rumored to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, although it’s too early to tell whether the handset will indeed have always-on capabilities. However, it makes sense to assume that only high-end devices sporting such processors (or their successors) would come with advanced always-on voice commands support.

Are you looking forward to see such features in future handsets?

As far as specs go, the T-Mobile exclusive Sony Xperia Z will be no different than the international version which we extensively reviewed, save for support for the carrier’s brand new LTE network. The highlights include a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC with 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, 5″ 1080p display, 13MP Exmor RS camera, and Android Jelly Bean.
