Theatre in the Park Postponement

It is with a heavy heart, and great disappointment, that the New Thalian Players announce we will not be able to bring "Theatre in the Park" - our planned production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" to the city of Manchester this year.

For the past five years, with no home space or stage, the New Thalian Players has struggled, against all odds, to bring FREE, live musical theatre to the people and families of Manchester, an to all who visit.

We are one, small, non-profit, community theatre and the thousands and thousands of dollars it takes to produce such an event in the city of Manchester, have simply overwhelmed us in this economy. We sincerely hope that re-focusing our efforts on fundraising this year, will enable us to bring Theatre in the Park back next summer.

In an effort to summon support for "TiP", we included in our mission statement, a quote from Winston Churchill: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." If the residents of the city of Manchester, and towns surrounding, remember fondly what we've givn, then we've accomplished something will worth the work.

Announcing NTP's 1st Annual "Jester's Ball" Fundraiser...

On Saturday, April 10th at 6pm, The New Thalian Players are inviting New Hampshire's theatre and non-theatre community to participate in their 1st Annual "Jester's Ball" Fundraiser Event at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Manchester. The event will be a fun night of food and dancing, sprinkled intermittenly with games and contests...the most fun you can have without being a kid!

Wearing costumes is optional as there is no formal dresscode, however if you wear a hat, you can compete in our...drumroll...

CRAZY HAT CONTEST!
That's right...wear the wildest, craziest hat you can muster up or find...maybe raid your weird aunt's closet....and compete in our contest! The one who is judged to have the most outrageous hat will win TWO PALACE THEATRE TICKET VOUCHERS for any show in the Citizen's Bank Performing Arts Series of the 2010-2011 Season! Other games will include TRIVIA CONTESTS, LIGHTNING KARAOKE, and the new SURVIVOR ISLAND, a game of spatial challenge....

There will be a LARGE ASSORTMENT OF FOOD and a CASH BAR.

Tickets are $30 each...however, you can purchase FOUR TICKETS FOR THE PRICE OF TWO! Just get a group of four people to come, and tickets are only 15 dollars each! Proceeds will go towards putting on NTP's summer Theatre in the Park program in Veterans Park. As this is a community fundraiser, all are welcome to volunteer their time and/or suggestions for helping to make this a fun night to remember!

This event will be hosted by DJ Billy Rears, of Main Event DJ's.

Now Interviewing Producers for "Joseph"

New Thalian Players is now accepting applications for producers of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" to be performed in Veterans Park in July of 2010 for our annual free Theatre in the Park Program.

Two positions are currently being considered.

SHOW PRODUCER: Responsible for overseeing and managing all artistic aspects of production, including:

Working with the NTP production committee to select the creative team and department heads
Scheduling production meetings and rehearsal/show calendar
Insuring the timely and effective providence of all production needs

VENUE PRODUCER: Responsible for overseeing and managing all venue aspects of the production in Veterans Park, including:

Insuring proper licenses and permits are obtained from the city
Planning and overseeing load-in and strike
Insuring city regulations are followed
Overseeing all park amenities for cast, crew, and audience

All applicants should provide a resume.

New Thalian Players, the producers of the FREE Theatre in the Park (TiP) program in Veterans Park, are excited to announce a $5000 matching grant from the Herman and Goldie Halpin Foundation.

For the past two years, actress and comedian, Sarah Silverman, daughter of New Thalian founder, Beth Ann O'Hara, has performed in benefits to raise money for TiP, allowing it to continue its work to provide this great gift of free theatre to the Greater Manchester community.

In the last five years, TiP has drawn thousands of audience members from all backgrounds to Veterans Park to enjoy quality theatre at no cost. Many families who attended this past summer have told our board members how wonderful it
was to have somewhere to take their families during these difficult economic times.

New Thalian needs your help to match this generous grant. YOUR DONATION WILL BE DOUBLED which will be a great help to us to reach our goal of $50,000, so we can continue to provide the FREE THEATRE EXPERIENCE for the people of Manchester. Volunteers Needed!

Show time for Theater in the Park is just around the corner and we need your help! TiP is New Thalian Players' free gift to the city of Manchester. People from all walks of life who may not be able to afford ticket prices can come to enjoy high quality musical theater for Absolutely Free! No Cost! Universally Affordable! An Infinite-Percent Discount!!

But we need your helping hands to keep this gift running strong. We are interested in filling the following positions:

USHERS: Ushers will arrive at 6pm on the night of the show and stay (roughly) to intermission. Basically, act as a "greeter" at park entrances. Ushers can pick which performances to work.

BACKSTAGE ASSISTANTS: Backstage Assistance will arrive at 6pm each performance night and stay throughout the show; they would also need to be available during Tech Week (7/12-17/16). Duties include moving the set and assisting the Stage Manager

COSTUME ASSISTANTS: Costume Assistants will arrive at 6pm each performance night and stay throughout the show; they would also need to be available during Tech Week (7/12-17/16). However, since they will be assisting the Costume Manager, if there are enough costume assistants, they should not be required at every performance/tech rehearsal. Duties consist of assisting the Costume Manager in keeping track of/tending to/storing costumes; before show/intermission/after show.

NEW THALIAN BOOTH ATTENDANTS: New Thalian Booth Attendants will arrive at 6pm on the night of the show, and stay until the show ends. Duties consist of running the raffle and giveaways, and promoting the group. Volunteers for this can pick which performances to work.

New Thalian PIZZA NIGHT at

PIZZERIA UNO!

Cast Members, Crew Members, Board Members, Non Members and anybody who likes food (who doesn't?) are invited to join the New Thalian Players team on Sunday night, June 14th, for some meeting, greeting, and eating at Pizzeria Uno!

The social will begin at 6:30pm and will last until every last stomach is full. So join us and bring your friends, relatives, strangers, and especially anyone interested in joining our team! Pizzeria Uno will donate up to 20% of every check to our Theatre in the Park production of Disney's High School Musical this summer!

Thank you to everyone for the wonderful turn-out to auditions. We are still interested in seeing more High School Musical hopefuls. If you haven't yet had a chance to audition or know someone who would like to be in the show, now's your chance! We'll be holding one more night of open auditions.

WHERE:

Manchester Community Music School

2291 Elm Street, Manchester, NH (map)

WHEN:

Friday, April 24th, 7pm-10pm

Vocal auditions will be held with a piano accompaniment at 8:30pm. If you prefer to use a music track or sing a capella, you may do so beforehand.

HOW: Prepare 16 bars of a song from the show or in a similar style to the show. You can bring your own music track or sheet music. Dress comfortably to move and dance.
