After performing a mini-concert for the Today Show‘s summer concert series kick off, Usher is continuing his round of promotion. His latest stop was at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards for a performance of one of his new singles.

Dressed in a sharp suit, Ush hit the stage with his dance/pop single “Scream.” He started things off by doing some fancy moves with a female dancer. Suddenly, she turns into an Usher sort of, kind of look-a-like and the two duel in mirrored movements. He also disappears after a while and it all ends with a dance along.

“Scream” is lifted from Usher’s brand new album, “Looking 4 Myself.” The set, which features his smash single “Climax,” will be in stores and available at online retailers on June 12. Watch Usher’s performance below.

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards almost had as many performances as it had award categories. The performers ranged from first timers to seasoned vets.

Boy Band–or man band– The Wanted had parts of the audience swooning to their performance of “Glad You Came.” Following Justin Bieber‘s performance, his pal and fellow Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen sang her infectious single “Call Me Maybe.” Goodie Mob–which includes the always entertaining Cee-Lo Green– gave a truly awesome performance of “Fight To Win” that ended with a tribute to the Beastie Boy‘s Adam “MCA” Yauch. Nelly Furtado made a return to the stage with a performance of her new single “Bigger Hoops (Bigger The Better).”

Alicia Keys closed out the night by presenting Stevie Wonder with the Billboard Icon Award. The two then sang the awards show off the air with what seemed like a mini concert. The performance included hits like “Higher Ground,” “Overjoyed” and a special birthday request snippet of “Empire State Of Mind.”

Adele ruled the Billboard charts this year, so it’s not at all surprising to see her clean up at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. The British songbird, who didn’t attend the awards show, held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last night (May 20), won a whopping 12 awards, including Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album for 21, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist.

LMFAO, who kicked off the show with a wild medley of hits, including “Party Rock Anthem,” “Sexy And I Know It,” and “Sorry For Party Rocking,” followed not-so-close behind Adele with six wins. They topped their competition in categories like Top Hot 100 Song for “Party Rock Anthem,” Top Duo/Group, and Top Digital Song, also for “Party Rock Anthem.”

Coldplay, Lil Wayne, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Lady Antebellum, Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga are all winners as well.

Katy Perry did some high-flying when she appeared on stage at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards to perform her latest single.

The singer, donning an angelic stage costume, did a whole lot of twirling, spinning and swinging while singing her new song “Wide Awake.” The performance was the perfect marriage between Pink‘s high-flying, acrobatics-filled performance of “Glitter In The Air” from the 2010 Grammys and the Smashing Pumpkins‘ “Tonight Tonight” music video.

“Wide Awake” is taken from Katy Perry’s repackaged second album, “Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.” It follows up her hit single, “Part of Me,” which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. “Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection” is in stores and available at online retailers now. Jordin Sparks

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards enlisted singer/songwriter John Legend and American Idol season 6 winner Jordin Sparks to perform a moving tribute to the late Whitney Houston during tonight’s (May 20) awards show.

While sitting at the piano, Legend started off the tribute by singing Whitney’s hit “The Greatest Love Of All.” Once John’s performance ended, Jordin Sparks, who stars in “Sparkle” with Houston, took the stage and performed “I Will Always Love You.” While Jordin isn’t a powerhouse singer, she did a fantastic job with the challenging song.

When the tribute concluded, Whitney’s sister-in-law Pat Houston accompanied her daughter Bobbi Kristina on stage to accept Whitney’s Billboard Millennium Award. “I’m just blessed to have been in such an incredible woman’s life,” Bobbi Kristina said in her acceptance speech. “There will never be another one–ever.”

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood gave an amazing vocal performance when she took the stage to perform her song “Blown Away” at tonight’s (May 20) 2012 Billboard Music Awards.

Dressed in a flowing long red dress, Carrie stood in the middle of the stage surrounded by fans. As the song started to build, so did the dramatics on stage. Smoke filled the stage and the fans started to blow, ending in a shower of confetti as Carrie delivered a massive final note. Flawless!

“Blown Away” is the title-track of Carrie’s new album. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums charts after selling 267,000 copies in its first week of release. It is currently enjoying a second week atop the main albums chart. She’ll head out on the Blown Away tour this fall to support the release. Watch the performance below.

Justin Bieber

Judging by the dead body outlined on the stage, Justin Bieber‘s mission was to kill his 2012 Billboard Music Awards performance tonight (May 20) in Las Vegas. So did he? Eh, not really.

Justin took the stage standing over the body outline as he started his hit single “Boyfriend.” His vocals received assistance by a backing track throughout the entire thing with peeks of his live vocals coming through. Unsavory! Even though his performance was just all over the place, he’s at least walking away a winner for the night with other nomination results yet to be announced.

Chris Brown activated the “fun zone” and turned the 2012 Billboard Music Awards into a graffiti-filled dance party for his performance at the awards show that is being held in Las Vegas tonight (May 20).

A shirtless Breezy stormed the stage with his dancers and rocked out to his single “Turn Up The Music.” Bikers with glowing wheels performed tricks on a ramp behind the r&b/pop prince and his dance crew and literally lit the stage up.

Chris Brown isn’t just a performer tonight, he’s also a nominee. The singer is up for a total of four awards. They include top r&b song, top r&b album, top r&b artist and top male artist.

“Turn Up The Music” is lifted from Chris Brown’s new album, “Fortune.” The set, which also features new singles “Sweet Love,” “Till I Die” and “Don’t Wake Me Up,” will be in stores and available at online retailers on July 3. Watch the performance below.

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson treated fans to the first televised performance of her new single, Dark Side, at tonight’s (May 20) 2012 Billboard Music Awards which is going down live in Las Vegas.

Dressed in a long red gown, Kelly stood center stage and performed the tune. While she sounded great, the performance was a bit of a let down. Absolutely nothing happened on stage–she just simply stood there the entire time. It’s a good thing her voice is so fantastic. That made everything better.

LMFAO got the 2012 Billboard Music Awards party rocking with an opening performance at the big awards show which is going down tonight (May 20).

To get folks shuffling, they whipped out a medley of hits that started with “Party Rock Anthem.” They danced along with their skinny pants and then moved along to the next hit, “Sorry For Party Rocking.” They ended with “Sexy And I Know It” and had everyone around them–including a pink bear and zebra–taking off their pants and wiggling their behinds.

LMFAO come into the awards show as one of the artists with the most nominations. They have a whopping 17 noms, just one less than Adele who leads the gang with 18.

“Party Rock Anthem,”  ”Sexy And I Know It,” and “Sorry For Party Rocking” all come from the group’s latest album called ”Sorry For Party Rocking.” The album is in stores and available at online retailers now. Watch the performance below.
