The auditions are over! It’s now time to see what the latest crop of singers gathered on season 11 of American Idol are made of in the always-grueling — and entertaining — Hollywood Week round, which began airing last night.

As with seasons past, groups of golden ticket holders came out on stage to face the judges — Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson, and Jennifer Lopez — for sudden death. They had one chance to sing a song of their choosing, sans backing music, and wow the judges. They were then separated into two lines: one stayed, the other went home. The singers who survive the first two days of cuts would go on to battle each other while having to work together in the group round, or what we’d like the call “the best freakin’ part of the show, like, ever!”

Some of our faves from the auditions round proved themselves and their greatness once again. Others fell from grace, while others, like Symone Black, just fell, literally, off the stage.

Johnny Keyser, who we openly swooned for after seeing his audition in St. Louis, continued to be great. He’s just so effortlessly good, it’s crazy! And his confidence is off the charts without being annoying. Let’s hope it stays this way. Another stand out in his group, Heejun Han, on the other hand, needed a confidence boost like no other. But we don’t know why. This kid has a great voice. They both survived.

We got a quick peek at Baylie Brown sounding amazing and surviving the first round of cuts. Woohoo!

In another group, we met the frigidity Jen Hirsh for the first time. Loved her! She has such range. Also in Jen’s group was St. Louis standout Lauren Gray. Look, we know she’s supposed to be so great to the judges, and we gave her a pass when her voice was cracking all over the place during her audition, but enough is enough. She needs to stop choosing songs that aren’t in her vocal comfort zone. Both ladies survived.

Reed Grimm and his quirkiness returned. He’s the guy who sang the theme song from Family Matters in Pittsburgh. He chose another iffy number, “I’ve Got A Golden Ticket” from Willy Wonka, and jazzed it up to fit Hollywood Week. So smart. And so through to the next round.

Not so lucky was 18-year-old Travis Orlando, who, even after improving his skills since being cut last season, still didn’t have the chops in the judges’ eyes. We’re saddened by this. Yes, there are better singers in the competition, but there are worse singers too. And Travis really wants this. Boo.

Other familiar faces getting the boot included Ramiro Garcia, Jason Hamlin aka Wolf, Jenni Schick, Lauren Mink, and Jim Carrey‘s daughter Jane Carrey.

Others making it through included Adam Brock, David Leathers Jr. (A-FREAKING-MAZING!), Jessica Phillips, Creighton Fraker, Aaron Marcellus, Jeremy Rosado, and Erika Van Pelt, who, can we just say, is everything Lauren Gray is being hyped up to be. This chick here has range and control. Love. Her!

And then there was Symone Black. The 16-year-old seemed to be on the right track with a delightful rendition of “Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay,” but it was when she was explaining why she chose the song that she stumbled to the front of the stage and BAM! right off of it! The medics were called and rushed to her aid, but we have to wait until tonight’s episode to see if she’s OK and if she makes it to the next round.

Dun dun dun!

More performers are still being announced for the 54th annual Grammy Awards.

Maroon 5 and Foster The People are the latest names to be added to the packed list of performers. The two bands will be joining the recently reunited Beach Boys for a special performance, producers revealed.

Maroon 5 and Foster The People join the list of previously announced performers, which includes  Alicia Keys, who will perform a tribute to the late Etta James, Chris Brown, Carrie Underwood, Tony Bennett, Katy Perry, Adele, Rihanna with Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean, and Foo Fighters.

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards, hosted by rapper/actor LL Cool J, will air live from Los Angeles, California on February 12 at 8pm EST on CBS.

It’s been a tough few weeks for newcomer Lana Del Rey. She’s received some of the worst press ever after a now infamously shaky Saturday Night Live debut performance. Her performance on the Billboard 200 albums chart, however, is remarkably more solid.

The New York-bred singer/songwriter’s new album, Born To Die, exceeds expectations after selling 77,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan as reported by Billboard.com. The sum is enough for her major label debut to land at No. 2 on the main albums chart.

Stopping Lana from reaching the top spot is none other than Adele and her blockbuster album, 21. The set notches its 19th non-consecutive week at No. 1 with an additional 122,000 copies sold.

Albums by LMFAO and Rihanna make noticeable gains this week and shoot back into the top 10. LMFAO’s Sorry For Party Rocking bolts from No. 18 to No. 9 while Rihanna’s Talk That Talk rounds out the top 10 at No. 10 with 22,000 copies sold.

The very first American Idol champ and overall pop goddess takes her new single, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week, thanks to strengthening radio airplay (up 49%) and digital download sales (up 6%), reports Billboard.

“Stronger” becomes Kelly’s third No. 1 single on the Hot 100, joining “A Moment Like This” (2002) and “My Life Would Suck Without You” (2009).

Lady Gaga is slowly building excitement for her upcoming Born This Way Ball tour by trickling out tour exclusives day by day this week. She first hit us with the mock up of her massive and epic stage, and now she’s unleashed the official tour poster. On it, we see a large photo of Gaga among the stars and storm clouds above the spooky castle that appeared in the drawing of the stage. Below that, it’s Gaga in a keytar dress posing with skull-painted men.

Later today (at 11am PST/2pm EST), Gaga will give fans what they’ve really been waiting for: the tour dates — well, at least the first batch. LadyGagaNow.net has already posted a handful of dates. We’ll have to wait and see if Gaga announces the same ones or if she adds more. We’ll keep you posted.

Before she heads off the the Grammys this weekend, Kelly Rowland‘s doing a little promotion for some of her many projects. The r&b/pop singer appeared on late night talk show, Chelsea Lately, to talk about everything from working with rapper Lil Wayne on her Grammy-nominated single, Motivation, to her new workout DVD, Sexy Abs.

“I had so much fun and my trainer, Jeanette Jenkins, taught me so much,” Kelly said of working on the DVD project. “Of course abs but she taught me like this 80/20 rule.” Rowland says she eats healthy 80% of the time but then she gets to enjoy “sweets, cakes, cookies, pies…” and all of the sugary products she loves 20% of the time to give herself balance. The 80% healthy living wasn’t a piece of cake for Kelly though. She says cutting out her beloved sweets for some time made her “a crazy person and mean as hell.”

Kelly Rowland’s single “Motivation” is nominated for ‘best rap/sung collaboration’ at the 54th annual Grammy Awards. She faces competition from her former Destiny’s Child band mate and best friend, Beyonce, as well as Rihanna, Drake, Kanye West and more in the category. Winners will be announced when the big show takes place February 12.

Beyoncé is making her way back into the spotlight after giving birth to her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, one month ago.

On Monday night, Queen B made the interwebs implode when photos of the star wearing a saucy red Alice Temperly dress at hubby Jay-Z‘s Carnegie Hall concert afterparty at the 40/40 Club in NYC hit the net.

Last night, Bey hit the town again to support Jay after his second night at Carnegie Hall, looking even more fabulous than before in a sparkling Monique Lhullier dress and dripping in Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

As “will she/won’t she tour” rumors swirl out of control, Lana Del Rey is focusing on promoting her debut album, Born To Die. The newbie singer/songwriter signed copies of the set at indie record store Amoeba Music in Los Angeles last night (February 7). Along with the CD signing, Lana also performed several songs from the album for the excited crowd.

Before getting down to the business of sifting through more singers during the second round of blind auditions last night on The Voice, the coaches — Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee-Lo Green, and Blake Shelton — took the stage to show the contestants how it’s really done with a rousing medley of Prince classics.

Each judge got a chance to showcase their vocal skills during the medley. Xtina took the sassy lead on “1999,” “Little Red Corvette” was crooned sweetly by Cee-Lo, Adam whipped out his ridiculously savory falsetto for “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” and Blake gave “Kiss” a countrified makeover.

Jay-Z put on a thrilling show at the legendary Carnegie Hall last night (February 6) to benefit the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. It was the first time the mogul/rapper performed on stage since welcoming his history-making daughter Blue Ivy Carter into the world on January 7.

But his baby girl wasn’t far from his mind. Jay performed his touching Blue Ivy dedication song, “Glory,” for the very first time in front of the packed audience. “One hand in the air for Blue,” Jay urged the crowd. He rapped the song with a large orchestra behind him, with the stage lights tinted blue.

It was an emotional moment for the new father. “I ain’t think I was gonna make it through that one,” Jay said at the conclusion of the song. “That was tough.”
