Hi there, folks who still read my blog. I imagine there are a few who haven’t culled their feed readers in a while. And for that, I thank you!

I have been in a knitting and blogging funk (mostly Farmville-related), but I think my belly is developing a small fire for knitting that I sense will erupt soon enough. I have been looking at the Knitpicks catalogues that still come to my door every month, and I have a feeling my knitting bag will be going back into my backpack tomorrow morning. I removed it a few months ago (regretfully), because I hadn’t used it in months and it was bulking up the bag. But it’s going back. It has Bubble in it.

Also, I seamed Greenzo. I never seam ANYTHING. I specifically seek out sweaters that I don’t have to seam, so that I don’t have to seam them. But I seamed this shirt one day a little while ago, and it was moderately pain-free. I think this is a good sign.

It was mesmerizing. I made the decision that the moment I start making a decent salary, I will take $1,000 of that salary and spend it on a first edition of the book. I know it’s the recession, and I’m a poor grad student with no money who just spent thousands of dollars on a big trip and a laptop and will soon be shelling out major bucks for new teeth, but I think I’m going to buy these shoes. The only thing holding me back is that I don’t know which size to buy. They’re made by these ladies in Africa and they look super comfy. This summer I had a crazy time trying to find comfortable flat sandals to wear during day-long walks in Europe (I ended up finding them a few days before the end of the trip), so my brain is still wired to obsess over sandals. You see, if I buy these, I am doing myself a favour because then I will have two pairs of fashionable flats to wear in the heat next summer. I’m just planning ahead.

I want to make some Plumerias just like these. My family went to Hawaii a few years ago and we brought one of these plants back with us (don’t worry, they were specifically travel safe, we checked*), because we thought they were so lovely. It’s still growing away, not yet old enough to sprout blooms but I’m hoping it will before I’m 50. Canada is not as bright and hot as Hawaii, but we try!

* One of the great things about travelling in and out of Canada is that our guide to declaration of goods when returning to Canada is called “I Declare,” which must always be intoned as if one is a Southern Belle.
