Pending favorable weather, contractor will be retracing the pavement lines on US 421/Bus. 40. This is a slow moving operation. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the moving caravan, and be prepared to merge into the unoccupied lane.

Contractor may be encountered anywhere between the Stratford Road interchange and the bridge over Liberty Street downtown. They will be working in both directions, as well as entrance and exit ramps.

Beginning and ending times are approximate.

NCDOT will be peforming asphalt shoulder reconstruction and diamond grinding of NC 147 from Swift Avenue to T. W. Alexander with lane closures for shoulder work, diamond grinding operations, concrete slab replacement, and joint maintenance. Lane closures can be expected between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm weekdays, from 7:00pm to 6:00am evenings, and anytime during weekend hours. Additionally, some ramps will have lane closures/detour routes during the life of the project. Work is scheduled to begin March 16 and should be completed by the middle of May 2012.

The Winston-Salem Entertainment-Sports Complex will host the racing season opener which is expected to increase traffic volumes surrounding the Bowman Gray Stadium. The event is expected to draw an attendance crowd exceeding 10,000.

In anticipation of increased traffic volume surrounding the event, WSPD, Sheriff’s Office, and Winston Salem DOT will be managing major intersections in the vicinity of the event. Variable messaging systems along the surrounding highways/roadways will be deployed to advise motorists with parking and traffic information.

It is recommended that commuters not attending the event should avoid Stadium Drive, Martin Luther King Jr Drive, and other routes surrounding the event. If possible, patrons should plan to arrive early, at least one hour prior and carpooling is strongly encouraged.
