Costs of doing Business in Ireland 2015

This report is produced by the National Competitiveness Council under the Action Plan for Jobs 2015. The report benchmarks key business costs and highlights areas where Irish enterprise costs are out of line with key competitors. The report concentrates on costs that are largely domestically determined such as labour, property, energy, water, waste, communications and business services, and considers both price levels, and changes in those levels (i.e. price inflation). This year’s report also includes two additional chapters examining commercial insurance costs, and waste costs.

NCC Submission to the Action Plan for Jobs 2015

The Action Plan for Jobs recognises the fundamental link between competitiveness and job creation, and is a key mechanism to drive competitiveness in all areas of economic activity. The development of the APJ 2015 provides further opportunity to maintain this focus on competitiveness. Focusing primarily on shorter-term, tangible actions (i.e. actions that can commence, or be delivered upon, over the next 12 months), the Council has built on the analysis in both the Scorecard and Challenge reports to identify a range of prioritised short-term actions, which can build the foundations for our longer-term international competitiveness.

Ireland’s Competitiveness Challenge 2014

Ireland’s Competitiveness Challenge 2014, which is produced under the Action Plan for Jobs 2014, outlines the National Competitiveness Council’s view of the main competitiveness issues confronting the business sector in Ireland over the medium term, and sets out a series of policy responses required to address these challenges. Building on their earlier benchmarking of Irish competitiveness, the Council focus on six major themes in the 2014 report: addressing cost competitiveness; broadening the tax base and investing in economic infrastructure; enhancing our skills base; developing our enterprise base; improving access to finance; and rebuilding the trust of citizens in the ability and willingness of public and private bodies in Ireland to adhere to the highest international standards.
