Did you know that 70% of medicines are derived from natural sources? But as you may know, natural does not necessarily mean safe or effective…although many natural supplements (and synthetic chemicals such as Vitamin C (USP)) are essential or important for our health. Yet many supplements may or may not promote health only slightly better than a slice of white bread. I say ‘may or may not’ because we simply dont know if it works without research in humans–no evidence for, no evidence against. No evidence. Some supplement manufacturers have gone the extra yard to perform human research on their products and/or ingredients. But it’s not cheap to do this research and to do all the things it takes to manufacture a high-quality product. One indicator of a quality supplement is its price–of course, just because a supplement is expensive doesnt mean it is high-quality.

In this blog I will attempt to address some of the issues affecting quality, safety, and efficacy in health products, including personal care, dietary supplements, functional foods, and drugs, and will pepper these exclusive reports with up-to-the minute research findings straight from PubMed on new/interesting research.. all from a unique, user-friendly point of view.
