It's another awesome reason why I won't be needing my cable soon.
If you're not familiar with the free Boxee download, it's basically a hub for internet entertainment to easily access and keep track of your favorite shows and videos. The Boxee Box hardware connects the internet to your TV so you can watch Hulu, YouTube, whatever on your TV, phone, etc. The qwerty keyboard on the back of the Boxee remote is another plus that definitely beats out the internet browsing features on other devices (Playstation, TiVo, etc.). Expect to find it in stores for about $200 in stores later this year.
So awesome my boyfriend wanted a t-shirt. (They just ran out.)

Samsung Moment puts DTV in your mobile phone

The SAMSUNG Moment incorporates a DTV chip and antenna so you can watch any digital broadcast signal through your phone. I overheard that some display models have already been drooled on. The release date isn't set yet, but Sprint is on board to do a round of beta testing early this year in the Washington, D.C. area. For a preview, pick up the current Moment model that's already available. It has the same features minus the DTV chip. The Moment runs on the Android operating system, includes qwerty slideout keyboard and AMOLED display. The price point isn't set yet, but you can bet that its eventual carrier will have a say on that.

Tivit: Channel surf on your phone

Pros:
The mobile DTV receiver can send broadcast signals via wifi to your mobile device
No monthly, weekly, or lifetime fees
Small and lightweight
Pretty colors!!!

Cons:
3 hours battery life
20 sec delay when changing channels.
No plans yet to integrate the technology directly into a mobile device. Samsung's MOMENT already has this feature, but they don't have a release date set yet. Check out my review of the Moment here.

3D TV without the glasses!

The Creative Life company is attempting to leapfrog over the 3D TV competition and leave the glasses behind. With all the hype over 3D TVs at this year's CES, the one hangup I keep overhearing is, "Who really wants to watch TV with glasses all the time?"

Having grown up with an 80-year-old's eye-sight, wearing glasses all day long never bothered me much. But since lasik, I can see how this is a definite deterrent. That, and for those who already wear them, doubling up on the eyewear can't be attractive.

TCL's effort is already years ahead of the other 3D TVs shown at this year's show. Their display at CES shows an image comparable to what others are offering, glasses included. However, for those of you already hoping to ogle this for yourself, it won't be available until 2012. And then, only in China. There's no word yet on when it will hit the U.S. and other markets.

Shock and awe fact: This will set you back $20,000. Star saving now.

The one to watch: Panasonics's 3D TV

While several tech giants are debuting their 3D TVs at CES, Panasonic's brand gets a nice push with Avatar, not to mention their neato-factor features. The full 3D HD will be available in four sizes: 50, 54, 58 and 65 inches. The new screens also features wireless connectivity, so those ugly cable from you source to your monitor and speakers will be obsolete. A pair of active 3D glasses come with each set. They're a bit bulkier than the passive pairs most are familiar with, but it reduces the "crosstalk" or visual bleed that often makes 3D images blurry. As for content, Direct TV announced their plans to provide three 3D channels. 3D Blu-ray discs will start popping up as popularity increases, the player will also be available in conjunction with the 3D TV release.
Check these out yourself as they make their way to store displays this summer.

Next year's next buy: OLED
LG will be debuting their OLED TVs. At a slim 3mm, its the latest in a lean line for the future. The
15 inch launches in April, a 32 inch model is due in September. Energy efficient and eco-friendly, so while you may have to pay through the nose for the first gen, your conscience will feel clean and green. LG reps say its water resistant, but I haven't gotten a chance to put it through the dishwasher. There's no MSRP on this item yet, but isn't it nice to know that your plasma is already losing that new tech glow?

I'm finally settled into our mini-manse in the hills of LA. Uh, no, we didn't win the lotto. I just found a really cool, cheap house to rent on Craigslist. Max loves it. He has his own entrance and everything. One of our favorite LA places is Ruynon Canyon. He can barely make it up the hill sometimes, but I think we both know it's good for us. Dave and I have also been exploring as well. He's the best. For my birthday we went up to wine country near Santa Barbara. He doesn't drink, so we detoured to an apple orchard also. There's also a town there, Solvang, that is a gianormous tourist spot. I can always tell because the ratio for Asian tourist jumps to about 60%. I being Asian only contributes to this problem. None of the wines I tasted were any good, so I got a bottle of Balsamic Vinagrette instead. It was spicy and sweet and oh sooo tasty. And Dave could have some too. The following day Dave's friend Rob agreed to take us mountain biking. It was apprantly the best idea on the worst day. What would have been a 40 minute trip took 3 hours because of the Labor Day weekend traffic. I did get to see what Zuma Beach looked like crowded. But we finally made it to the trails. They were just north of Malibu in Ventura County. Dave and I both just about died. Dave from exhaustion and me from a major fall. My bike and l decided to take a fall helmet over spoke down a ravine-type thing. The only thing I remember was opening up my eyes and thinking, "My leg looks weird in that position." Thankfully nothing was broken, just a few scrapes and bruises. Dave ended up hurting his toe. He says it was broken. I think the pink flesh a week later is a clear indication that it was just a beneath-the-flesh wound. I know I haven't been kept in contact with tons of people, but I've been uber busy looking for work. ... and then actually working. I'm freelancing at the ABC station here at night- writing and soon doing some producing. During the days I've kept myself busy with extra work. Yeah, I do me working as an Extra. It's the freakin' movie and tv capitol of the world, so I figured why not.

Here's a group shot of some folks I met on the set of Eastwick.

It's been quite a learning experience fo' sho. Here are just a few things I found out in my first two days of Extra-ing: 1. Don't eat or drink the props- that means the food or drinks they have on set. 2. Bring a comfy chair, book, iPod, and neck pillow 3. The stars aren't all that shiny 4. Bring a granola bar and water. Kraft services may or may not be available at all times 5. When hunting for my next Extra parts, I will not want to be anyone who needs to wear high heels. Business suits and evening wear are out. Mental facility chic is in. Thanks Antonio for giving me the heads up on the long hours in heels. I made sure to have my flip flops handy close to the set. Today I Extra'd on Park and Recreation. Our location shoot took us to the Pulp Fiction diner. It's on Olive off of Victory. I wasn't in the shots much, but I did have a good view of Megan Mullally freaking out then making out with her real life husband who apparently is her fake-life ex. Good times. Stay tuned for my next off the set update. Or don't. Whatever.

Green Day Concert

Crazy concert last night. I just shot my final show in Tampa and I am pooped. Green Day put on a very satisfying show. I'm not a huge fan and needed to get back to packing, so I didn't stay. But the friends of mine on FB and Twitter went home tired and happy. Billy was nice enough to pull up a kid on stage though. He came all the way in from Costa Rica and barely spoke English, but he knew enough of it to sing 'Do you know your Enemy?' Another example of music bringing the world together... POSTPONED: Aerosmith/ ZZ Top concert

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry confirmed Friday, July 10 on 102.5 The Bone that Saturday's show at the Ford Amp is postponed at least until October. Apparently Steve Tyler has sprained his leg and it has yet to heal. This follows the cancellation of the Charlotte and Raleigh shows. Perry did reveal that he'll be making an appearance on the beach helping out Mote Marine Aquarium's Beach Cleanup Day Saturday.
