Hey there, we're about mid wedding season and lovin' it! We've been getting to know our fabulous couples and each wedding is so unique! Love that!

New for this season was the same day slideshow. Should we be around for dinner at the wedding we edit a few of our favourite images of the day and run a little slideshow during the reception so that guests can view what the rest of the day was like. We've had great responses to this! We also decided that because we shoot the story... the best way to tell it and preserve your memories is through a Coffee Table Book. So while I was at WPPI earlier this year one of my missions was to find a book that I loved and thought my clients would love too. And I did. I'll be doing a little post on them soon!

I'm often asked... 'why the blogsite-as opposed to a regular website?' It's selfish really... I was updating two sites and it was really time consuming and I figured people are most interested in seeing the recent sessions. I also really enjoy writing about our experiences here. So, don't be a stranger and leave a comment every once in awhile...I may not ALWAYS write back but I do always read them.

Crazy!

'Crazy' is what Marilyn said to describe her family. She actually 'warned' me about them when she booked the family session. Puuuulease. I grew up with 2 sisters and 4 brothers. You better believe I've experienced moments of insanity with my family-every holiday we get together-it's why video cameras are prohibited at our family functions.

We had a fabulous time together in Marilyn and Stu's neighbourhood in Burlington!

Theo and I reminisced about my childhood friendship with his sister, Jen. AND then...Anne and I bonded over 'Dirty Dancing'... because... it's the greatest movie ever!

it had to be done. : )

I'm so excited to be celebrating with him and Anne and reuniting with the Koudys family! Theo's mom used to call me Sally...I'm not sure why, but I didn't mind. I was there quite a bit and thought we hit the jackpot when my bff moved just down the road from us on Lincoln Ave... Kindergarten, My first horror movie, the slumber parties...all great memories with Jen!

It was a gorgeous afternoon for an engagement session! Gorgeous! The sun was so warm and and the fall colours were beautiful! I'm just soakin' this weather up! A few more sessions

The natural glow on her face and his sweet smile... how cute are these two. AND I can't wait to meet their little one-expected to arrive at Christmas! I'm already cookin' up a great setting for their newborn baby shoot .

shhhh... I think baby is saying... "i can't wait to meet you!"

Cynthia and Adam drove in from Toronto and found me through friends of theirs- LOVE a little word of mouth! And I loved shooting this maternity session so keep on chattin' about NWP!! Thanks Cynthia and Adam for sharing this stage of your life with me! Very exciting!

It was a big deal-Noah coming to the studio...this was my first shoot in the new space! So excited-and couldn't be happier that it was for Tim and Jayme and their fabulous little guy!
I've loved watching them grow into a family...shooting their wedding, and then their newborn session...

and now Noah's first year! So fun!
Add to that, we didn't expect to be in the studio until December-so earlier this summer, when Jayme had asked if she could book Noah's session for October...the pressure was on!

I set a goal today... that I was going to post some new images on the blog before I went to bed tonight. Somehow, tonight turned into the wee hours of the morning-so this could get messy...someone please let me know if there are spelling mistakes-that would be embarrassing : )

Meet Mr. Kendall... aka Nate... aka Nathan-when I asked what he preferred to be called-he told me Mr. Kendall would be fine : ) And for a second I thought he was serious. So... aside from a great sense of humour...Nate also has a beautiful fiance... Vicki. We met last weekend for their engagement session and here are a few of my favourites!

We started our session down town in St. Catharines but when Vicki told me about how Nate proposed, it was only fitting that we bring the session on down to the beach. Ask about the proposal story...it's a good one!

Soooo...I wouldn't really consider myself to be a 'morning' person... however-if there is one thing that gets me going it's the opportunity to shoot in early morning light. When Cynthia booked last Saturday morning I was so excited!
But make that latte with a double shot of espresso!

Niagara Falls is 'their' place...they've been coming back every anniversary since their 2nd-so it was only fitting that we meet for their engagement session in the Falls. And Clifton HIll being so colourful provided a great backdrop for their fun personalities! They LOVE to plan things, they're into sports, their friends are important to them-it was great to hang out with you this weekend, Steve and Cynthia-I so look forward to your wedding next year!

And just for a change of scenery we drove out of town. They were a little reserved in front of the camera at first, but it didn't take long for Steve and Cynthia to forget that I was even there!

Are you bored yet? You must be...I left you alone far too long. I've been hiding out.

We are 99.9 % finished our love nest... and studio! We are so close I can smell it. I've been spending the last few days cleaning and washing floors... and washing floors and cleaning some more. Today we started moving a few boxes in to the studio! YAY! AND I have my first sessions in the new space booked for Saturday-so the pressure is on!!!

So here's where we're at...

I cannot wait to hang a wreath!!! Christmas may come a little early this year!

So-we have a little settling to do-but I do hope that you'll come visit us and check out the new space!

These passed few weeks I've been reflecting on what I'm most thankful for...there are too may things to list-I am truly blessed...my husband, my family, healthy kids...work that I love, the apple danish I had for lunch, my clients-I have the greatest clients!! I'm really thankful for my assistants... I have two. One fills in for Emily (aka assistant extraordinaire) when she can't shoot with me. His name is Mike (aka my darling husband...aka sweet pea).

A while ago I had come off a few days of shooting, I was exhausted, felt a cold coming on... and I had one more shoot. An e-session...and I LOVE love love e-sessions. Great Couple, the sky was clear...beautiful afternoon. But the thought of carrying my bag to one more shoot-I wasn't up for it. Mike came with, gladly, and we had an awesome shoot! He is always looking for different angles and he'll take me aside and quietly and remind me of a shot that I wanted to do...AND he carries my bag-AND he can talk football and all manly man stuff that I just don't know anything about. I am thankful for my hubby-who also makes a great assistant!

And then...then there is Emily.

We just did the math and it turns out that this was Emily's 3rd year assisting me. She has well earned the title "assistant extraordinaire"! She has mastered reading my mind- I hold out my hand and whatever I need is right there. She really has trained herself-not getting much guidance from me. She has learned the way I shoot, what lens I will want next and...she's a hoot to have along-we laugh a lot! I'm thankful for Emily.

I was catching up on Jasmine Star's blog and came across this great article that her assistant/second shooter/husband, JD, wrote...10 really great tips for assistants and second shooters. This list would've been so helpful a few years ago... but I thought I'd pass on the link for anyone who is just starting out or does a lot of second shooting- and if you've never spent any time on Jasmine's blog-you should also check out her work-she's pretty fabulous!

I've raved about 'The Good Earth' before-it's a wonderful cooking school in Beamsville-and on the property, hidden behind the orchard trees you'll find the cozy kitchen and on Saturday night the harvest table was set for 21.
I've been following TGE for a few months and will be photographing the events and happenings over the next year. Really. I think I got the better end of the deal here. I get to eat-all they get are the images.
This feast was a celebration of harvest-one of the 'delecTable series' (for more info check out the site)

Patrick's already turned me onto shrimp...tonight it was mushrooms-haven't been the biggest fan in the past...but this. was. AMAZING. I won't pretend to know what I'm talking about and use food lingo to describe each image...you'll have to come listen to Mike, Patrick and Isa chat about the menu. They do a brilliant job at describing each dish and how it's done.

The hostess extraordinaire... Nicolette, serving some of the area's finest wines.

And this is about when Patrick asked if I was a vegetarian...to which I replied, closer now than ever. I just wondered how they were going to make all that look pretty.

AND... Mission accomplished.

The evening closed with a delicious fall dessert. Desserts are my specialty...no I'm not a pastry chef- by 'specialty' I mean ... I just like to eat them- more than anything else. And the apple streusel cake topped with homemade apple pie ice cream-yes that is the flavour-was sheer wonderment.

And at the end of the night, Bella makes an appearance...quite possibly the very best fed dog ever.

I was visiting with a couple last night about their wedding next year and we were chatting about the details and she mentioned that she wanted something different for her wedding gown.
She left me with this card for Lesley Giles Bride-the store is in Oakville and this bride was so excited about having input into her wedding gown-making it uniquely her own. I haven't been by the shoppe but heard it was a great experience and worth checking out if you're shopping for the perfect dress.

AND now you need a great pair of shoes-because shoes are-for lack of a more creative term... like the icing on the cake.

I can do many things. But I learned that I cannot eat ice cream from a cone and shoot at the same time.

And no. I didn't order two ice cream bowls-Mike was out shooting with me this weekend : )

We met Steve and Devon at one of their favourite places...Stoney Creek Dairy.

We headed out to the lake in Stoney Creek- there's a path that Steve and Devon run along quite often.

We chatted about life, travels, and the wedding plans...and the sauce fountain...for the chicken wings. If Steve was planning the wedding dinner he'd have bacon and eggs-Mmmmm...breakfast for dinner. Sorry, Devon-I won't encourage him anymore.

It was great to hang out this weekend! I look forward to celebrating with you!

paul & martha: i do

I met Paul and Martha almost a year ago at their e-session. We had returned to the spot where Paul had proposed for engagement pictures and had a lovely time! Over the last year we have chatted wedding details, I had met their family and friends at pre wedding parties, and was so excited for their wedding day to finally arrive!!! They came to me by way of the fabulous Jayme and Tim-who's wedding I shot ...three years ago and they've been stalking me since ; )

We began the day with the guys... their were suspenders flying, cufflinks and buttons all over, putting on a tux is no easy task.

Martha was glowing... she was glowing already a few nights before at the rehearsal-she made a gorgeous bride!

Martha's sister and her beautiful little niece are home for the wedding!! Ella is an absolute doll and loved the camera!

The reception and pictures were done at the RBG in Hamilton...we made it indoors before the rain... the greenhouse was a perfect setting-Paul has his own landscape business.

I've known Jennifer for about five years-she showed up on my doorstep with her hubby and a beautiful flower arrangement-I knew then that this was a girl I needed to keep around. Jennifer is a brilliant business woman, an inspiration, she's one of a kind...that Jennifer...we laugh a lot. She creates things that blow my mind. She is great.

However, a few months ago I popped by her studio and she was listening to ...Peter Cetera...I know. I didn't understand this...I mean, I loved Peter Cetera when I was like eleven-actually...my sister loved him when I was eleven... but really???! Jennifer redeemed herself yesterday...We went on a little road trip and she had the most lovely music playing. She introduced me to Adele.

I love what Adele does with her voice... it's a little bit of soul... it's a good fallish kind of album... a good rainy, fallish evening kind of album.

Her album '19' is available on itunes for $11... Jennifer recommends the Deluxe Edition for the 'Live' music...I agree.

So... I know you're here for more than just a good tune-you're dying to see wedding photos from Paul and Martha's wedding-my hubby just came back from his 'happy' place and brought me a dose of caffeine-come back in a little bit-I will have some new images up!

Last week friday night I met Mark and Kerala at their new home-in just over a week they would be married. They were busy with last minute details, friends and family were flying in for the event-lots to be done. But on Sunday, it had all come together-right down to all the beautiful details.

Thank you to Karen for being a fabulous host. Kerala needed a place to get ready and Karen welcomed us and the bridal party to get ready at her beautiful home! These are some of my favourite pre-wedding images...

Julie made a stunning bride! So excited to put on her dress that she was already dressed when I arrived! They couldn't have had more beautiful weather and they chose a fabulous Niagara location overlooking the falls.

mark & kerala: i will

How cute are they?! I will be shooting Mark and Kerala's wedding this weekend so last week we got together for their e-session! We met at their house and wandered the property. What a great location with views of the lake and Toronto. We hiked through the fields, visited the dock by the pond where Mark proposed to Kerala-and then they gave me the tour of their new home.

And this is it... this is where he proposed. After a long walk... in the rain... Kerala turned to find Mark on one knee.

Surrounded by trees and their wedding having that very same theme I think it only appropriate to call it their little love nest.

It was a gorgeous evening-and while soaking up the beauty of our surroundings we discussed plans for this property... : )
Wouldn't it be a beautiful spot to host a wedding... I imagine a rustic barn, a few cottages, and...a horse for Kerala.

Can't believe the last I posted about our little project was back in July! A little shout out to Rhonda, who requested to see photos... which was followed by a phone call from the project manager-my hubby-asking why I haven't posted recently. If you're new following the blog... we started building our new home and studio at the end of June and we're looking forward to the moving in October! I visited this afternoon and the guys we're busy installing the trim and the doors...

Just finalized my picks for the flooring, the cabinets are well under way and I'm so excited to see the final product... and I really need to pick up some lighting fixtures and choose paint colours.

09.09.09 Very lucky numbers...Fred did all the numerology...and this was the day they were to be wed. A lovely couple from Ohio, they exchanged their vows in front of some of their closest friends and family, overlooking the beautiful vineyards at Vineland Estate Winery.

I met Denise and Fred at their quaint suite at Inn on the Twenty-we had met for the first time the night before-we hit it off and was excited to be documenting their Winery Wedding experience!

I had the pleasure of working with Niagara Classic Cars again-thanks to Ian...our fabulous driver!

A lovely table was set by My Bouquet and I love the view from the Carriage House! I'm so excited for the colours to turn and the smell of grapes is amazing!

I had Denise and Fred work out a little for their pictures and I have to say was so impressed that they hiked with me through Balls Falls-and that I could keep up! They said they liked old architecture-this is about as old and rustic as it gets around here.

For us, Kelly and E.J.'s wedding started on Thursday. Kelly sent us the itinerary...we followed the very detailed schedule of preparations that were underway. From the spa appointments, to E.J. having lunch with the guys, from brushing her teeth ; ) to picking up Kristen from the airport-It was all neatly documented and we were greatly entertained by reading along.

We celebrated with the lovely couple at the Pillar and Post in NOTL. A gorgeous setting for a wedding! Many of the guests were form out of town and were making it a weekend away-I trust that you fell in love with the 'prettiest town' and enjoyed your stay!

Kelly was as cool as a cucumber when we arrived, enjoying the company of her fabulous girlfriends.
The ladies were lookin' quite fine with make up done by the talented Janine Child and flowers had already been delivered by Vintage Design Company-they were just as classy and beautiful as Kelly's elegant dress.

We found E.J. hangin' out in the 'mancave' with the guys... they're not as scary as they look-and eventually warmed up to the camera : )

Rob, you crack me up-he was putting the finishing touches on his speech. What made us laugh was the legal binder and paper he was writing it on-you know you 're a lawyer when...

Congratulations!!!

A shout out to the gentlemen from Niagara Classic Cars for being fabulous! It's not an easy task to navigate around NOTL on a beautiful sunny saturday afternoon in NOTL! The cars looked great as always! Thank you!

And the award for best groom's speech ever goes to E.J. -he had us laughing to tears. If ever this lawyer gig goes bad-shoot... you'd make a great comedian! It was totally acceptable to break Kelly's 'rules' just this once...well done!

E.J. made a comment in his speech about success being measured by the relationships you have with friends and family... you're very successful-we know this because we had the privilege of sitting with many of Kelly and E.J.'s friends last night-Thank you to 'table 9' for great company and conversation!

Kelly and E.J.- Your wedding was a dream-it was so evident that you were soaking in every moment -everything was wonderful and it was a pleasure being part of your celebration! Cheers to you!

Happy September!

The hint of crispiness in the air reminds me that is is almost sweater season! I LOVE sweater season. Albeit, summer went by waaaaay too quick and the rainy weather left something to be desired... after a week in sunshiny Florida, I'm ready to take my sweaters off the top shelf.

We have a busy month ahead of us and I'm so looking forward to Kelly and E.J's wedding tomorrow! So come back to view their wedding story! We have a few other weddings this month, a few engagement sessions in the works and some commercial shoots! Lots goin' on!

Before I sign out... what's a post without a picture?! My girls needed to be introduced to Anthropologie and we found a store in Orlando. We also found this sweater... I believe it needs to be introduced to my closet-don't ya think??

takin' it all in

The air was heavy and warm but I didn't care. I was soaking up the moment-takin' it all in. The smell of the fire pit and the sweet roasted marsh mellows, the sound of the kids laughing and playing in the pool, and the speakers blaring the movie of the night... all underneath the sparkling palm trees.

The kids will remember this trip forever. Their first trip to Disney. The first time they were in a plane. The sights, the smells... and the hour we drove to Citrus tower which was nothing more than a few stories tall but painted up on-line to be this towering monument by which you could view all of florida's beautiful landscape.

Today, Mike and I took the kids on a little road trip. Mike was reliving his childhood years, of when he travelled to Florida with his family.

Now, when we grew up- gee, I sound ancient-I'm only about 86... we didn't travel much with our family. There were 7 of us kids-it's hard enough to travel with four children-so kudos to Mom & Dad for even taking us on a day trip to the beach! When I grew up, we didn't eat out, that was wasteful and unhealthy... I can count on one hand how often I ate at Mc Donald's before I was 18... I went to my first movie in the theatre when I was TWELVE-it was that Corey Haim and Corey Feldman flick...something about Driving...

Our kids have done more, seen more at 8 than I a have at ... ahem... er... 29ish.

Mind the rambling- my point is... much like myself, as a child...it didn't take much to amuse Mike. Life was simpler. His Florida trip consisted of a few hours at Disney and the next day, a visit to the flea market...and a drive out to the infamous Citrus Tower-which admittedly is much smaller than he remembered...but we all had a good laugh (after we were done yelling at 'Holly' -the GPS- for not knowing where this 'monument' was) and got a great pic of the kids in front of this very random, plastic Mount Rushmore replica.

I did so enjoy the Flea Market-met a lovely photographer. Talked to the Locals. Watched the circus. Where else can you buy funnel cake for 4 bucks and snow cones for $2... AND.... and after visiting Hollywood Studios, being reminded of some great Disney Classics that I need to introduce to my children (Honey I shrunk the kids. 3 men and a baby, Indiana Jones, etc.) I scored the greatest classic of them all for only $3 and I feel a backyard movie night comin' on. In the morning I will remind the kids to stop for a minute, take it all in-enjoy the sounds, the sights, the smells. Right now I'm just going to enjoy that they're all quietly resting up for a new day of more experiences-more sounds, sights and smells.

Do you know what they call you? Bleaders. Blog + readers= Bleaders. Kind of disturbing-I won't call you that. But thanks for visiting and warm greetings from very warm Orlando...you DO know that all you're getting is family vacation pictures-no weddings this week! We're taking some time off!!

What kids??? We have kids?! Oh...those ones...we found a place for them...

After two days of Disney parks, we spent today at Blizzard Beach-a Disney Water Park. I can't feel my legs. And. I look a bit like a tomato-yes-I applied sunscreen several times but some of my parts have not seen sun in a very long time. We had a blast! My kids love water... they're one step away from being fish. Really. Of all the parks this week, I think they had the most fun today! When listening to the conversations around me the last few days, I do wonder if we, parents, put our children through the madness... the great madness of Disney because WE want to watch them experience it-see their dreams come true. Don't misunderstand me-we've had a fabulous time and Disney World blows my mind... but when after lunch they start asking to just go back to the hotel pool- I do wonder.

We have a few more days here... I need to see a real orange tree, explore a little more of Orlando, maybe find an alligator reservoir, swim in the ocean... and we're hitting the flea market!

I was in NOTL this morning meeting up with some fabulous wedding vendors...I know-it's a hard life. I was driving home and lost control of the van (ok not really-but what's a story without a little drama) and ended up in the parking lot at Willow Cakes & Pastries-I felt drawn to enter the quaint little bakery (at the corner of Mary St. and Niagara Stone Rd.). The sweet smell of pastries and freshly brewed coffee was sucking me in. A few weeks ago one of my brides had a tasting there for her wedding cake and looky here...I ended up there too - coincidence...I think so..or not really.

So, you can imagine the delight when I told Emily I was returning with a box... I believe I called it 'sin in a box'-but more precisely, it was cheesecake...New York style and something mocha-ish.
Thought id' share a little slice of joy with you... try not to lick the screen...

MMMMmmmm...If you're driving through NOTL-you must stop in and indulge.

It was a day rich with unique surprises and family traditions.

The Constantine Cottage was choosen for the wedding venue-close to her heart as it is where Claire visited while growing up. Growing up in Mnahattan...the cottage was an escape from the city. Call it serendipity... the cottage next door belongs to Scott's best friend's parents. The guys got ready right next door!

We walked into the cottage and the sweet smell of cupcakes filled the air. The dining table and kitchen counters were covered....lovingly baked by Claires aunt.
The bride was upstairs getting her hair done... her stylist has been doing her hair since she was two! It was these little things that made Claire and Scott's day so personal... their very own.

Claire was wearing a necklace that was made by claire's great grandfather out of fool's gold. The beautiful paintings that Claire picked for each of her bridesmaids had a story for each one and I thought Emily was going to explode with happiness when she saw the "green" books that Claire gave to the girls as gifts.

There were many great moments... one of my favorites was watching Grandma take it all in. We found her sitting in the covered porch watching as all the final plans were coming together. She told us that her wedding was nothing like this. Not so extravagant. She was married during world war 2.

The celebration moved into the tent and dinner was served by the very talented Kristin's catering. Dinner turnedd in to toasts..."keep it hot Scott"... and Claire got away with minimal embarrassing stories.

I love a great live band...and this band was AMAZING! Claire and Scott danced the night away...

Thank you for inviting us into your life-it's been a pleasure getting to know you over the last few months and it was an honor to photograph your day!

So...it's a beautiful saturday morning-the forecast promises sunshine...it'll be a bit toasty but we'll be shooting right on the lake today! It's going to be a great day-I can feel it!

Exciting news! If you're a regular reader of the NWP blog AND you're a "foodie" you'll be excited to know that you will be seeing a lot more images from The Good Earth Cooking School.

I met Nicolette from TGE about a month ago when doing some work for my friends at Vintage Design Company. They were setting up for a wedding and I visited to take some images of the beautiful venue and decor.

I grew up just down the street from the Good Earth, my parents still reside there and when I was chatting with Nicolette she reminisced about my brothers working for her back in the day. But I had no idea of the little haven hidden down the peach tree lined lane way. Aren't those the best little discoveries... the unexpected surprises.

I'm so pleased to be documenting "a year in the life" of TGE.
The property will be going through some serious transformations over the next few months and I'm thrilled that they thought to document this journey!

Tucked away behind the family home is Nicolette's cottage and her cooking school and soon will be home to a winery. It is a peaceful, quaint setting for a Niagara-esque wedding. You can read more about it at The Swish List-Nicolette was recently interviewed about the wedding industry in Niagara.

I dropped by the other night, camera in hand-and it was so peaceful. Remnants of the wedding celebration from the night before left evidence of the busy-ness but on this Sunday evening it was quiet, a world away. It was a much needed break from the craziness of my weekend.

joseph & heather: i do

Heather & Joseph shared a bit of their story when I posted their e-session...absolutely touching and they are the kind of couple that will go out and inspire others. It was an honour to shoot your wedding day and it was a beautiful celebration!

Heather got ready at the Ferretti farm and if you looked out the bedroom window you could see the top of the tent where later they would celebrate with a fabulous menu and a kickin' dance party!

Joseph got ready with his guys at their house...when I arrived they were polishing the minis... next to Heather-I'd say his car is his greatest passion. : )

Heather and Joseph's wedding was very natural...taking place on the family fruit farm-they laboured for months to clear a spot for the tent and the parking lot.
I found it only fitting that we carry that same look into the pictures-stopping on the side of the road and jumping into the field.

and the boys...not only do they have a great sense of humor...

they clean up pretty nice too.

The tent was set up overlooking the lake... another great niagara location surrounded by fruit trees and on a clear day you'd have a spectacular view of Toronto complete with guest cottage. When we arrived, Feastivities was cookin' up an Italian feast-complete with a Shrinp tree and Ice Luge. I'm not gonna lie...BIG perk of being a wedding photog is the feast! Thank you Peter for accommodating! Your staff was wonderful!

The theme of the peaches was carried through to the table arrangements created by the talented Jennifer at Vintage Design Company.
As much as the rain clouds lingered all day we stayed dry. At the end of the night Heather said it wasn't until dinner that she had noticed it had even started raining: "because everywhere I looked there was sunshine-from our friends, our guests, and... when I look at Joseph." How cute are you?! Heather beamed with her beautiful smile all day.

Congratulations Joseph and Heather! Like I said, it was a pleasure to be part of your wedding plans and I wish you happiness...and a fabulous time in Hawaii!

Julie and Dave will exchange vows in just a few months in Niagara Falls. When I asked them their thoughts about a location for their e-session they told me they were "outdoorsy" people. Dave, having his own landscaping business, it seemed fitting to do their session at one of the most beautiful, botanical gardens in NF... we also took a little stroll through Queenston heights park.

Three posts in one day...someone had a little too much caffeine today!

Maxwell got a photo shoot for his first birthday! I visited the family at their home in Burlington to capture just a wee glimpse into his life. I'm pretty sure the neighbours wondered what all the noise and fuss was but we'll do anything to get baby's attention! "ARE YOU ONE!??!?"

I LOVE this age...kids use all their little senses to discover new things...he'll soon learn that some flowers don't taste good.

And one of the whole family!

keep an open mind

It's been a few years since Mike jumped...

When he first told me he was considering putting on a chute I thought he was nuts... "but I really LOVE you... and we have children that need you... what would happen if..." and so on. But when Mike gets something in his head there's no talking him out of it and at the end of the day... that's something I really admire about him. The way he pushes himself to be better, do more, experience life.

One of Mike's most used lines is "keep an open mind". If I'm finding my self questioning events and experiences in my life... "keep an open mind". I really don't want to go into "that" museum..."keep an open mind". I really don't want to try the shrimp..."keep and open mind". I don't really want to jump out of a plane with you... "keep an open mind"

I'll keep an open mind but I'll also keep two feet on the ground thanks.

So my kids love Jones soda... they were introduced to it by my mother-in-law. Whenever they visit and if she has it in stock they'll go home with a bottle.

Follow along...this will all tie together in just a moment.

They love looking at the images on the bottles and they often ask why my pictures aren't on display. So we submitted a few and today...over a year later-kinda forgot that we did this...I received an email that our picture is a favourite and it's being moved on to go in front of the judges!! How fun! AND...it's the picture of Mike's first jump!

In honour of the fabulous Jones Soda and trying new and fabulous things...like sky diving OR like dancing:

dancing shoes

One of the perks to having Emily work here is that I get to hear all about her shoes. These aren't just any shoes...they are dance shoes that she bought in Toronto from the same store that fitted "so you think you can dance finalists" and that give her blisters. But she loves them because they are dancing shoes. And after she talks about the dancing shoes she'll proceed to tell me about her dancing lessons...and I listen. I listen because it's something she is so passionate about and she lights up when she talks about it-so fun!

Last week Emily invited us into her dancing world and we attended an open house at her dance school -Social Ease Dance Studio.

I have no doubt that she has been checking my blog EVERY day to see if I have posted pictures yet. And rightfully so...it was a wonderful evening- under the stars, great food, and a little salsa. I've been nagging...er, gently persuading Mike to learn to cha cha with me for quite some time. Let's keep this quiet...but I do think he actually enjoyed it-AND he was pretty good-I was very impressed with his mad grooving skills. I do see more lessons in our future

Jessica and Phil-you're naturals! born to dance!

I fear I might lose my assistant extraordinaire when she starts teaching dance...

When all else fails just throw yourself at your partner.

ryan & indira: i do

This Saturday we had the honour of shooting Ryan and Indira's Hindu ceremony-I don't think I've attended a more colourful event-the ladies in their Sari's, the delicious menu, the beautiful "tent" and the decor... gorgeous.

One might be disappointed with the rain on their wedding day but Ryan and Indira were showered with blessings. We couldn't go into the yard because of the rain but we found a dry shelter overlooking the festivities.

Love this image...this young man stood, with a few others, created a canopy for guests walking from the tent to the buffet-so sweet.

Congratulations Ryan and Indira...I wish you sunny skies for your wedding in a few weeks!

We have a playlist...music that we listen to on our way to our events-usually pretty loudly! We start off every new season with a new cd of fabulous music and by fall it's time for an updated playlist. We've been asked so often what's on that playlist so Emily and I thought we'd share...one song every week.

The first one has been around for a few years but it's so beautiful I haven't been able to take it off the playlist. LOVE this and the movie ("Once") is pretty great too!

Never will you again put so much thought into a dress as you will when looking for your wedding dress. It's overwhelming to walk into a bridal shoppe and see the hundreds of styles
on the rack-where do you start?

I suggested to one of my clients to pick up a few magazines and collect images of your favourite dresses-bring the inspiration when you go shopping. I found this post on shopping for your dress on REAL SIMPLE...check it out. AND choosing a dress for your body type.

brady and jen: i do

Brady and Jen came to see me about their wedding when referred by their friends-Jen was in a wedding party that I photographed last year and a few of her bridesmaids are "regulars"-Char and Crystal-you girls are a riot!! When I learned that many of Brady's family was coming from Texas for the wedding, I was thrilled-there is a different sort of atmosphere when guests at the wedding are also on vacation! So fun!!
I've so enjoyed getting to know Brady and Jen through their engagement session and chatting about their wedding plans!

We started the morning at Jennifer's parent's house in Grimsby-the home that Jennifer grew up in.

Jessica, you did a fabulous job with the flowers!

As I drove out to Legends on the Niagara, it looked as though we might get some rain but again we were blessed with sunny skies!

Brady and Jen included traditions from both sides of their family. With a scripture reading by Jen's sister Liz, a Jewish blessing and breaking of the glass.

Pictures were done around the course and along the Niagara Parkway...

The Wedding Party was a blast-thanks for being such great sports!!!

Jen's comments to Brady at the reception later in the evening were so simply stated: "I believe we were brought together for a reason...you lived in many places-texas, chicago, new york

...and then to toronto...to be with me."

"Everything's bigger in Texas"-Brady's heart...being one of them. It's so evident-his love for family, his grandparents, his friends-many of them flew in to be with the couple yesterday. Big love for his new bride-the way he looks at Jen and loves her, the way that he took dancing lessons for her (Mike, I think it's a sign), the way he makes her laugh. Jennifer, You are definitely the reason that Brady ended up in Toronto.

A little shout out to Brady's Grandparents in Texas who couldn't join us for the celebration. Brady held it together all day but when he spoke of the impact that you had in his life he got a little emotional. Cheers to Grandparents! I hope that you can feel and experience the beauty of the day by viewing these.

When Emily can't assist me with a wedding, My darling husband, Mike comes along-he did a fabulous job yesterday (not to worry Emily-you still have a job...)
Mike asked if he got to blog about the wedding...

"Brady and Jen....their wedding day was absolutely amazing. When I am lucky enough to be able to work with Nataschia it is always a thrill because we get to experience the couple's love story first hand, together...which eventually comes up in conversation between us. There were two things that stand out from the wedding day for me....

1. Culture and Tradition: Being a student of history I am always fascinated by different cultures and tradition and, in general, different worldview perspectives. I think Brady and Jen are fortunate to have their unique traditions and perspective and they allowed that to permeate into the ceremony and their wedding day...so awesome. I think that they are very fortunate to have different experiences and traditions from which to build their marriage from.

2. Married couples as best friends: It was mentioned by Brady's father in the toast that Brady and Jen were friends and that one of the keys to a successful marriage was to be best friends. Not only was this very evident yesterday....I could not agree more. I know first hand that my wife is absolutely my best friend and there is no one else I would rather talk with, travel with and ultimately experience life with..."

*sigh*
And after 14.5 years he hasn't found one annoying thing about me yet... ; )

Congratulations and thank you for welcoming us into your life for the day!

When he looked at her...it was like there was no one else in the room. But how could you take your eyes off the bride...she was stunning.

We arrived at their home for a few pictures of Nicole's transformaition...the house was decorated with wedding stuff...shoes, make up, dresses, jewelry and many many girls. Nicole, surrounded by the people she loves most, was preparing to meet Mike at the church

Anti Bride??? This is not what I imagined an "anti-bride" to look like...

I woke up to gloomy skies on Saturday morning and checked the forecast...it said 100% showers...a wedding day miracle!

These two are in love with Mike almost as much as Nicole is...so cute!

Yesterday was a BIG day...our baby went to camp...for a whole week! Just another milestone at the Wielink home! We've been sending the kids to Camp Crossroads for the last 5 years-they each go for a week and LOVE it! Chloe has been waiting YEARS for her turn! She was so excited that she "couldn't sleep" on wednesday night, and any other night leading up to Sunday.

We just finished a great album of Mark and Stephanie's e-session. You've heard about these sessions-We hang out for a couple hours at your favourite places...it's a great opportunity to get to know each other before your wedding! AND...you're ENGAGED...you should celebrate it with a session! NWP includes them in each of the packages!

What to do, what to do with all those fabulous images? You could hang a couple dozen 16x20's in your home OR you could opt for the coffee table book. Many couples are using a Coffee Table Book for a signing book at their wedding, Check out this one we did of Mark and Steph's session:

Just a quick shout out to Emily...my Assistant Extraordinaire! She's not one that loves being in the spotlight, or have parties thrown for her...not even surprise ones...but it had to be done-she earned it. A few weeks back she competed with hundreds of others as a candidate for the Garfield Weston Award...it came as no surprise when she posted on facebook "I won, I won, I won"... because we knew she would. Congratulations Emily! So proud of you!

One of Emily's great friends, Suzanne, threw a lovely little surprise party for Emily to celebrate her award! And apparently, it is not a celebration without Whiskey Sours...

We thought we'd share the recipe...in case you wanted to celebrate with us...responsibly of course.

Whiskey Sours:
2 ounces whiskey
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 tsp simple syrup (sugar & water)
slice of lemon to garnish
shake it up in a cocktail shaker...or a plastic tumbler ; ) et voila...Emily's favourite drink.

I have a list. A list of things to do in NYC.

We did a lot of them during our visit last summer-ride the subway, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, share a kiss on the empire state building-another thing to do on my list is to...spot a celebrity...

We were just finishing up a little shopping in SoHo and just about to leave the village-we were homeward bound, in a hurry. I had my wide lens on to get some of the buildings and store fronts, when out of the corner of my eye...I spot, quite very possibly-but maybe not...Jeffrey Dean Morgan-better known as denny on Grey's. If only I had switched my lens...if only. So this is the best I got-zoomed in about 1,000,000%

So...What d'ya think? Could it be...I'm just going to continue to believe that it was indeed a celebrity sighting just to cross one more thing off my list and because wouldn't that be a fun story...I mean it's no Kelly Ripa but Jeffrey's not half bad!

I know y'all have been losing sleep over this so I thought I'd give you the answer to "where's mike-o". We were in Grand Central Station and it was packed-so I told Mike to go hide in the crowd so the kids had a fun little game to play when looking through our NYC pictures. So glad ya'll joined in and searched for Mike...

THIS IS NOT MIKE... although he has an uncanny resemblance- weird.

Mike buried himself in the crowd..we didn't want to make it too easy for the kids : ) I know... it's cruel.

I win. ; )

Come back soon though-We were in SoHo on Monday afternoon and I think I may have photographed a celebrity....well, I need your help identifying him-I think it could be....

scott & claire: i will

It's been a good day-I started it off with a walk on the beach...complete with beautiful morning sunlight and seagulls...chirping...cawing...you get the picture. I was a little early for my meeting with Claire. I went to meet Claire at the family beach house where she will marry the man of her dreams-Scott. Mike and I spent Sunday afternoon with them in Central Park for their e-session-afternoon turned into evening, a few glasses of wine and dinner at a thai restaurant in Scott's neighbourhood. We had a fabulous time getting to know them-so this morning's meeting was just two friends getting together to chat wedding plans.

Claire and Scott will exchange vows in August so I'm creating a coffee table book of their engagement session that will be at their reception, for their guests to sign! I'll share it with you later but for now...the happy couple is patiently waiting for a sneak peek at their session...so here we go...

Claire grew up just blocks from Central Park...so this was her park-where she walked the dogs, went fishing, rowed a boat...I loved hearing your childhood memories, Claire...you were sparkling as you showed us around the park!

Hello Schilstra family! Hope you're having a fabulous family vacation! I bet you've been looking for these...

I met Wayne and Christine with their kids...and the family dog...Darcy, last week for an urban shoot-and somehow we still made it to the country.

LOVE the images we got out in the field...

We've know the Schilstra's for years...our children used to go to the same school and our girls still hang out! Wayne listed and sold our place last year-he is a real estate agent for Remax-living out in the country and selling many farms-it was only fitting to take a few pictures in the field!

I'm sitting at the airport waiting for our flight home...home sweet home. We had a few fabulous days in NYC-there's always something different to see but I'm always ready to go home-and I have learned...next time I pack decent walking shoes.

Pack up the kids and send them over...I found us a one bedroom flat for .5 million-we could make it work!!! I LOVE the architecture here...I LOVE the brownstones that stand tall along the tree lined streets and I love the history behind the buildings.

This weekend we're in NYC for an e-session so we're spending a few extra days. Today, we toured the New York Public Library-so full of history-Charles Dickens desk, Thomas Jefferson's copy of the Declaration of Independance, literary papers from many well known authors...the buidling was constructed out of marble-the paintings are beautiful! And there was an exhibit on about World War II that I know my boys would've LOVED!

The library used to have a filing system of millions of cards...now they have a 800 books with the card to record every book they have in the library!

"Where's Mike-o??" A quick stop at Central Station...if you can find Mike in the crowd...you win! he really is hiding in there...

We had dinner at Cilantro's-it was cozy-we ate outside and it had started raining just a bit...we were covered by the overhang-so great!

After dinner we took a stroll through Soho and look what we found:

We ended the night with a quick walk through times square and sat by the trump tower and enjoyed the warm evening and a frothy drink. I LOVE this city!

She is an entrepreneur, an artist, and I loved chatting business and life with Margot. Margot is a interior designer in Burlington and you can check out her site here-the purpose for this shoot was to have current photos for her soon to be updated site. We started shooting in her beautiful home and her cat, Abigail, even participated-so cute! Margot works out of her home office which has a beautiful view and is full of natural light-a very inspirational space.

We ended our shoot in the town square-I love shooting here-with the different textures and back drops and it gave Margot a different look for her session.

To give you a sense of Margot's personal style, this is a story board of some of the fabulous things I found in her home.

It was September...I blinked and now it's June-the kids have one more day of school! Someone please push the pause button-it's all happening way too quick!

Our oldest graduated from Grade 8 last week. I was one of "those"...you know...the parents of the grad-I have volunteered for many grad dinners and witnessed the festivities from the other side...but now...now I was one of "the parents"...strange.

And so very proud of Corey. You know, I'm also one of those parents that when the kids bring home their report cards...I skim over the marks...and skip right to the Comments/Learning Skills. My heart is happy when I read of how well they work with other kids, how they respect their teachers how they are an encouragement, always hoping they behave well and try their best.

Corey is the nice guy. I sit back quietly and watch him-he opens doors for others when we're out shopping. He'll offer to carry things out to the car. He always says hi...to everyone. He encourages his friends, his team mates. I don't tell him often enough but I see the good nature in him and this makes my heart sing. So you can imagine how happy I was to watch him accept the citizenship award.

What made this moment even more special was that Corey's cousin Chanel accepted the other citizenship award. She's the nice girl. : )

I LOVE that these two got to go to school together...when I offered to take a few pictures of Chanel in her dress she insisted she have a few with Corey-so sweet! They'll go their separate ways to high school next year...*tear* but they'll alway share a special bond!

It was a fabulous night...a heart warming celebration of the Vineland Public School- Class of 2009! There were a few slideshows, some great speeches and even a little dancing! Thanks Leah-for not making Mr. Wielink dance in front of ALL those other parents...although I was quite impressed with is mad "ho down" skillz!

A shout out to the staff at VPS-we are so blessed to have you for our kids! I took pictures of the grads a few weeks ago and delivered them to Corey's teacher...she opened the envelope and gasped-she looked at each of the kids' pictures like they were her own kids. These are the kinds of teachers our kids are blessed with. Thank you.

AND congratulations graduates!!!

So...it was report card day today...the kids came running into the house this afternoon-handed over the envelopes...I skimmed over the marks...and read the comments.

When I met with Sandra a few weeks before the wedding she explained the wedding day as "we're just two kids having a big party!" -And that's what Saturday's wedding was-a fabulous celebration for a couple in love.

The couple exchanged vows at the beautiful Indian Wells Golf Club in Burlington-there is a great view from every location on this property. Sandra arrived just an hour before the ceremony that took place on the 18th hole. Brian followed shortly after and welcomed guests as they arrived.

Favourite thing about this wedding was how Sandra included many people from different areas of their life-through poem readings and toasts-I think every group/family was represented. And the stone ceremony was a heart warming touch.

I met E.J. and Kelly at the Vintage Inns Wedding Show this past February...and am thrilled to be shooting their wedding in September. I was even more excited when I learned that they booked almost ALL of their vendors from The Swish List! If you haven't already checked this site out you MUST visit for some wedding inspiration! It's so helpful to anyone planning an event in Niagara-especially if you're not local!

I do e-sessions because I want to show up on the wedding day knowing my fabulous couples. The locations they choose for their session should celebrate them as a couple! When I asked EJ & KElly to tell me a little about themselves she sent me a short description:
"In terms of our interests, we like movies, trying new restaurants and very much enjoy traveling-we are hoping to make travel a big part of our lives. We are not very outdoorsy people. I am pretty girly, love shoes, purses and shopping. I also really enjoy reading and going out for cocktails with my girlfriends. E.J. is a sports buff- it seems like sportsnet is always on in the house! He loves baseball (his favourite), golf and football. E.J. is also interested in history. Also, family is very important to us. We are both very close with our families and make it a point to get together regularly."

I smiled. And knew we'd get along great! Don't you just want to call them up and hang out with them!!! Looking forward to meeting their family and friends!

Could there be a more fitting place to do their photos? Pretty town for a pretty girl! We met at the Shaw Cafe in Niagara-On-The-Lake... this is my favourite place to have desert... but I refrained and we walked over to the park. They are adorable together...

It was a beautiful day for a wedding and Claire looked like sunshine. She has a brilliant smile..and why wouldn't she be smiling-she's getting married to the man of her dreams!! I can't imagine how anxious both Claire and Greg were this week. The day of the rehearsal they had both just finished writing exams-I'm sure they are enjoying some much need time away! The house was buzzing with excitement when we arrived on Saturday...

Claire's dad was telling me that when they built this home he imagined his girls one day walking down those stairs in their wedding dress...

And emotional ceremony and a BIG kiss when announced as husband and wife. Claire's parents sang to them...*insert tears here

After family pictures we went down to Jordan Valley for more pictures.

The Twenty Valley Golf Club looked elegant and hosted a fabulous dinner with the entertainment of dj service Spirit of Sound.

What a great weekend-actually, "great" is an understatement! On Friday, Mike and I attended... yes, we attended a wedding-it was a beautiful one-and it so perfectly mirrored the couple right down to every detail-the elegant decor and flowers complete with birch canopy, the personally written vows, the food-mmmm, and the pre-mixed dance and...and....and... Congratulations Derek and Lisa-so happy for you-it was a joy to watch you exchange vows!

On Saturday, I had the privilege of being invited to capture the Hotson & Martin wedding celebration! Another beautiful couple and love story-the emotion between these two was so touching-there were tears-it's a good thing that I have a big camera to hide behind.

AND today...today began with a great morning at church-watching everyone leave the building barefoot after leaving their shoes on the stage to be donated to Soles for Souls-this was so completely heart warming-a true love story, if I have ever seen one.

After a busy weekend and a much needed nap, I was off to NOTL this afternoon for an e-session in Niagara-on-the-Lake. E.J. and Kelly are having a beautiful...a Swishlicious wedding, if you will, in September at the Pillar and Post. We toured the pretty town this afternoon and so enjoyed getting to know this lovely couple! My Assistant Extraordinaire, Emily, has been coming with me on my e-sessions and I really like this-Emily is with me for most weddings and I just think it's cool that she gets to know our couples too!

Mark and Stephanie will be getting married next summer-and we celebrated this weekend with an e-session in their city. Special to them because this is where they are starting their life together-how exciting!
We started at their condo-with a beautiful view of the lake and the airport...

Mark and Steph gave us a tour of the neighbourhood...

This is just outside the gates of the BMO Field-Mark and Steph frequent the games here but security wouldn't let us in...
even after Mark pleads, "but we're in love...you have to let us in... we're in LOVE!"

and these are just behind the pub that they visit for dinner-just down the street from their place.

Mark and Stephanie will look back at these images when they celebrate their 50th anniversary and will relive these moments from the start of their life together!

As a photographer, my job is not just creating a gorgeous image...it's creating a fabulous experience. So when I received this email from Stephanie...my heart was happy!

"Hi Nataschia- Mark and I just got back from dinner and we couldn't stop talking about how much fun we had! Our shoot with you was such a great experience. We can't wait to see the pictures! joseph & heather: i will

When I first met with Joseph and Heather I was moved to tears by their vision for their wedding...for their life together. I couldn't wait to shoot their e-session because I was so excited to share one of their stories-hoping to inspire.

This is not your typical engagement ring. And when I asked about it, Heather humbly explained the story behind the ring.

"Joseph and I have always agreed that it's not the ring that is important, but the question the ring represents. Our shared passion for social justice issues lead us to decide that a diamond engagement ring just didn't suit us as a couple. We want our lives (and our marriage) to be about making a positive difference in the world around us. This we were sure of, but what kind of a ring alternative? That was left up to Joseph :) Joseph is the most creative person I know, with an incredibly kind and generous heart. When he proposed, he gave me a beautiful wooden ring; one he had made himself out of a piece of walnut given to him by his grandfather. It was a perfect fit! As if that wasn't romantic enough, he then told me that instead of spending money on a diamond ring, he had donated it to Free the Children. FTC is an international organization that empowers children through education, something I am involved with at my school. FTC has built hundreds of schools for children all over the world, who were previously facing abuse and exploitation. As a teacher, giving children the opportunity to learn and grow is something very close to my heart. Investing in this cause means so much to me. I am so excited with Joseph's decision...and even more excited to spend the rest of my life with him."

I know! So Sweet! Take a minute...pull yourself together-get a kleenex if you need one- and then go look at the rest of the images...

Last night we hung out for a bit-we started the shoot at the family farm where Joseph grew up and where they will be hosting their wedding later this summer-surrounded by peach trees right on the lake-with a stunning views of Toronto-this makes my list of favourite Niagara wedding locations!

We took a little drive into Port Dalhousie...so happy the rain held off and we totally expect sunny skies for the wedding!

You guys are fabulous-the word "modelicious" even comes to mind. ; )

I'm a stalker. I admit to stalking Shanta and Dan...on facebook-they have the most quirky conversations. I imagine them sitting on opposite sides of their living room couch chatting via their facebook accounts. And if you recognize her beautiful face-you'll know Shanta makes a mean caramel macchiato- among other caffinated drinks-she is one of my most FAVOURITE baristas.

I had the opportunity to hang out with them tuesday night and captured a few moments in their life-you know... the few fleeting moments between school, work and dance lessons. The kids warmed up to me immediately-I LOVE that. Amelia brought out her dance clothes, Benjamin showed me some moves on his bike. Adorable.

Shanta leaves for her Isubilo in July for 3 weeks where she will be working in an orphanage. I thought these pictures would be great to leave with family and friends while she's away-cover her with your prayers.

sweet baby capri

It's been a year already?! Last Spring Chris and Sarah came to the studio for their maternity session and then returned with new born baby Capri. And on Monday, They took advantage of the beautiful weather and the orchard setting and had Capri's one year shoot.

She's absolutely gorgeous and like many one year olds she's wide eyed-taking everything in... busy discovering the world- feeling the grass b/w her toes, putting rocks in her mouth...

So happy to capture this time in her life...she won't remember...but she'll treasure the images of these lost moments when she's all grown up.

The Limited Edition Sessions this month have graciously been hosted by the Moyer family at Cherry Avenue Farms in Vineland. The farm has been in the family for over two hundred years and has been lovingly restored over the last 3 years. So...still haven't broke ground-this week, we will be submitting all we need for our building permit-that's been fun (insert sarcasm here)...we're just about over it. We've continued gathering quotes from different trades and are so excited for the day we actually start to see things happen-and we have the itch more than ever with the weather being so beautiful these last few days. When people ask us what is the projected finish date Mike and I simultaneously answer "December/October"-Mike, being realist...and myself being a bit of a dreamer.

We moved from the Arena to the Soccer Field. And when Coach asked if there was anyone who would want to be the team photographer Mike & I couldn't resist. I figure that between shooting portraits and weddings, should I not be able to make it out-Mike can cover the games. He did a fabulous job this weekend:

Our baby is all grown up-if you have little ones you know that the first few years of soccer really means 12 kids crowding the ball and moving down the field in a clump. It's not uncommon to see a few players picking dandelions or the goalie trying to do chin lifts on the net. And the highlight is getting a freezie when the game is finally done. But this year, Chloe is playing on a Girls under 9 travel team. They've been practicing for a few months and it's incredible how they are already starting to bond and work together on the field-looking forward to a great soccer season!

Why does "holly" (aka GPS) always insist on taking me the scenic route? I didn't really have time for a tour of Welland this morning-although I did enjoy the sight of fields being plowed, sheep out in the pasture and a small aircraft flying just over me. Maybe a drive is just what I needed.

Enjoy the ride... wherever it takes you. Oh...but do wear sunscreen-I was celebrating field day this week with the kids-think cherry tomato red... that would be the colour of my nose.

Every year my family participates in the Rankin Cancer Run. A local charity sponsored by Rankin Construction that raises funds and gives back to those locally, who are suffering with Cancer.

May, being a busy month with the start of wedding season and family portraits, I usually end up working on the day of the event. But my hubby takes the kids and joins hundreds of teams raising money to help those in Niagara effected by Cancer.

Limited Edition Sessions are just around the corner... and I promised a sneak peek at the setting. We'll be shooting at a local orchard with a variety of back rounds-barn doors, blossoming trees, field stone. I found a somewhat willing model and we went out on a little shoot. Hope these images will inspire wardrobe for those already booked. For kids, sundresses, jeans, button up shirts and vests. For Mom, think dress, maybe a great pair of jeans and killer shoes and Dads jeans and dress shirt...colours: navy, burgundy, green...
I'm imagining your family as an art piece hanging above your dining table or behind the sofa. This setting would look amazing as a canvas!

And apparently, I'm an extrovert and I get charged by chillin' with others. So when Jennifer asked if I'd be up for a little road trip I couldn't refuse...besides, I was long overdue for a extravaganza of sorts.

Meet the fabulous Heidi and Jennifer.

We scrunched into the car-I say scrunched because I'm about 6ft. but Jennifer opened the sun roof to accommodate : ) and we headed out for Elmwood village. We enjoyed chatting, and meandering through the shoppes-we met some fine vendors and had lunch at "Globe" as recommended by Jacob, the stained glass artist. I have a new found love for Buffalo...before today, I could find my way to the Walden Galleria...but had no idea of the little boutiques hidden just outside of the city-so fun!

I have this bad habit of posting images on Facebook and sometimes forget about the blog-sorry blog readers. Here are just a few images from some recent shoots that I haven't yet blogged about.

I LOVE natural light. LOVE. I want to be unobtrusive and feel I succeed most at catching real, authentic moments that otherwise if using a flash...wouldn't be as be so natural.

BUT...but...as much as this pains me to say so-sometimes lighting conditions or setting a mood requires that you use a flash. A while ago I purchased a few Pocket Wizards (wireless system that set of flashes) and I think I shared...that they were on there way to being kicked to the curb along with my GPS. Someone told me, "if your PWs aren't working it's probably the operator"...whatev.

Aaaaaand...I'm humbled again. It really was just me and I've been having some fun with flash. Check these out:

The day started at Salon Swank in St. Catharines, where the girls were pampered and hair done up beautifully! I stopped by the salon on my way to Maris' grandmother's to have a sneak peek! My heart melted when I heard that the girls had slept over at their grandma's and she had tucked them in the night before-so sweet.

One of my favourite things to do is to photograph all the details of the day-Maris' dress was gorgeous and the bouquets were designed by Vintage Design Company-always a treat to work with such talent.

I love hearing other families traditions and one of them being that Mike and Maris would exchange vows in the chapel at Ridley College where Maris attended and her sister had been married years ago. The grounds there are stunning! After the ceremony, complete with bag pipes and an "opsie daisy" after the ring almost slipped from Maris' hands... we captured a few images of the lovely Mr & Mrs.

The celebration continued at Queen's Landing in the "prettiest" town, NOTL. It was a gorgeous day-Mike and Maris couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather. Enjoy the slideshow for a glimpse into their wedding story...

It was a beautiful afternoon for an e-session and I had a great time with Mike and Maris last weekend. They will exchange vows in just one week from tomorrow-can't believe how quick their wedding day has snuck up on us!

limited edition-family sessions

Summer has quickly booked up with weddings and e-sessions-so fun!! Very excited for this wedding season! We'll be shooting in some very different venues and we love to shoot new locations!

To make sure that we can accommodate family sessions throughout the busy season, we're going to try something NEW & FABULOUS! We will be setting aside 6 weeks though out the summer/fall seasons for family sessions and will not be shooting sessions outside of these weeks (unless it is a pregnancy or newborn session-we can't really put boundaries on pregnant mamas and little sweet peas)

We will be hosting one week each month. There are limited spaces for each week and when they fill up you are invited to book your session for the following scheduled week.
We want to be able to serve you better, completely focusing on family sessions during these weeks only. When you inquire you will receive a policies and procedures guide and we'll be calling you to help you plan for your session. This will help everyone prepare for your session and explain just how we roll and just what to expect throughout the creative process.

This all sounds so formal-and we're really not formal people 'round here-but have learned from recent experience that if we don't implement and respect a procedures guide things can get a little crazy.

So our goals this summer:
1) to take take pictures of fabulous real moments and to record the story of your kids...your family.
2) to get those beautiful images to you in a timely and convenient manner-displayed in beautiful albums and prints.

Mother's Day is just around the corner...and if you have a mom or... hubbies, you want to gift the love of your life with a something super special for being the mother of your beautiful children-you'll want to call us for a gift certificate! First go to the mall, wander around a bit looking for the perfect gift, realize mom really doesn't want another plant or mug or pair of earrings. Go home...pick up the phone-we'll set you up with a gift certificate and she'll love you for it!

A little over a year ago I met a couple of photographers at a wedding show and this was the start of something fabulous. We started meeting in a coffee shoppe. We'd come out with our cameras, and gadgets and sometimes our laptops-I'm sure at times we've resembled a geek squad-but we're ok with that. We'd talk for hours about photography, business and all things related. These meetings turned into shooting excursions and we continue to meet once a month to either shoot or just chat. The group grew from 12 photographers and now there are over 50 that participate. I never imagined how inspirational and helpful these meetings would be. These meetings and hanging out with other photographers have helped me grow, learn and really just inspire me to be better at business-better at my work.

Meeting in a large group like this can be busy and overwhelming so occasionally I'll grab a coffee with one other-then we can really dive in. Once a month I meet with a couple of friends (a shout out to Kathy who welcomed baby Emma into the world this week) and we'll chat "life, love, and the pursuit of happiness". And earlier this year I travelled to Vegas for WPPI and spent the week learning, connecting and shooting with other photographers. Tonight I'm excited to be attending a workshop that a few photographers from the group are hosting-so excited!

If you're a photographer-get connected...it is the best thing you could do for yourself and your business. There are other ways to get connected and be inspired...there are so many blogs and forums out there-a few that I visit more regularly are Chick Clicks, Enlighten Me, I Love Photography, Open Source Photo to name just a few.

I'm grateful to the photographers that started these get-togethers and invest time in creating forums... I'm so thankful to many of them for the influence that they have been to me. To say that this has been life changing might be a little dramatic...but it has truly changed the way I view our business and the way that I do photography. So thank you.

Someone recently asked me: "didn't you move, aren't you building a new home and studio? Weren't you going to let us follow along on this adventure on your blog?" Yes. Yes and... yes. I have been pretty negligent on posting about our new love nest..so here are the first images of our little project:

We learned this winter that we wouldn't want to live with out a wood stove-so we took our wood pile with us...

the lot is long so we'll still have a good sized yard...country feel-but walking distance to town. Love our little town!

birthday and easter celebrations and such

Anywho...Mike had asked if I had blogged recently and that usually means that it's about time I got on that-he is my biggest fan and reminds me occasionally to make time for my loyal blog readers-it's been a week since my last post...so sorry.

My baby girl had her birthday back in February and tonight...we will finally celebrate. Yes..I know: "and the mother of the year award goes to...."
But in my defense Chloe has been busy every weekend! She has a more exciting social life than me! I just say when life gives you lemons...

make lemonade...and stretch out the celebration so it's almost like you're having 2 birthdays!!!

Looking forward to celebrating Easter this weekend! How exciting-favourite things about Easter: chocolate (....obviously), dinner with my family-I don't think I've seen some of them since Christmas, sleeping in-mmmm, I love sleeping in, easter egg hunts, and church. I had a sneak preview of the service and it is going to be amazing. If you're looking for a church to visit this Easter weekend...come by check it out. I was thrilled when Jamie facebooked me about the upcoming arrival of their little one. I photographed Tanya and Jamie's wedding over 2 years ago on a beautiful September day. I loved getting to know them and
being invited into their life for the occasion. I LOVED being invited back to photograph baby Ayla-congratulations! I'm ridiculously happy for you!!!

Very impressed with Jamie's mad laundry folding skills!! Impressive.

the family session-part one

Just a little share...it's an email I received during the Christmas holidays. Totally random and much needed encouragement.

Christmas is the a pretty crazy time for portrait clients and orders. Crazy. Add to that we sold our house and packing began on boxing day...we packed up the Christmas ornaments and just kept going. Busy. So, I was running on empty, I came home from running a few errands and this sat down to check my email..this message moved me to tears:

"Hi Nataschia,
I just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love your website. Your blog is amazing...and I look forward to reading along every day!! I'm actually not a "blogger" per se...but when I went on your website to look at Darrell and Elviera's pictures (I think we chatted before --- that Darrell is my brother)...

...I checked out your entire website/blog. You are so creative and I'm very envious of that! Your "simple" stories on your blog always keep me interested and I am blown away by the creativity with your camera!!!!! I'm being really honest when I say that your pictures absolutely make me want to live my life "more" --does that make sense? I want to get married again (to the same guy!!) just to have you take wedding photos, I want to have my kids (who are now 18, 20, 22) become little again so that I can catch a glimpse of their little feet again. You really have a knack for capturing the moment and I continue to enjoy looking at your photos--even though I don't know 90% of the people you photograph!

Well, I just wanted you to know that. I have thought about emailing you many times...and it is my goal (maybe an early New Years' resolution?) to act on these little promptings that I believe are from God. We need to appreciate life....and everything in it. You have been blessed with a terrific gift~ and you're using it! And many of us get to enjoy it too- Kudos!

In the madness of the Christmas rush I forgot for a moment why I do what I do...Karen, thank you for reminding me. I take pictures so that you remember the stories. Life flies by, kids grow up, things change...someday, you'll want to relive the stories. Let me capture them for you-It would be my pleasure!

It's getting to be that time....time to think about booking your family session before camp outs and barbeques fill up your schedule. We'll be doing it a little different this season -Please come back next week for the details on booking family sessions!!!

Mondays...a fresh start to a new workweek. I'm usually feeling all refreshed and inspired but I confess, it was hard to get out of bed this morning...and I'm still wearing my "sweats" and a pretty ratty lookin' t.
So if you're having a tough time dealing with the gloomy skies and devastated after seeing a few snow flakes fall this morning-this will brighten up your day! I'm sure it will be a popular song for weddings this season-the perfect song for a destination wedding!

Listen loudly and swing those hips!

Another fabulous "in-home" session. Lin and Mike got my name through friends of thiers who recently had their photos done-and that's how it works-I book many of my sessions through word-of-mouth and appreciate that y'all have been talking about me. I have a few ideas rolling around-thinking of ways to reward my clients that send me referrals-so stay tuned for that...

Back to Mike and Lin and their beautiful boys-it's incredible how much they look alike...

Look at those eyes...how could you ever say no to that scrumptious face?!

Baby Aaron had a rough few months at the beginning...he's so happy and healthy and Mom & Dad are so in love with this little guy.

I'm going to throw Holly out the window...

Holly is my GPS. We have a love/hate relationship...she almost found herself at the curb along with my pocket wizards. It's a good thing I have such a patient husband...thanks sweet pea-for finding me and pointing me in the right direction...again.
My Pocket Wizards, however, did redeem themselves this morning and I do think this could be the start to a beautiful relationship:

my greatest accolade yet...

Perhaps this is my greatest accolade yet...

A few weeks back I did some commercial work for an amazing furniture manufacturing company-Gresham House is located in Oakville and I'm so excited for their business-it's just THAT cool and the owners are fabulous!!! Max and Marilyn, a father and daughter team have such passion for their business! The atmosphere there is incredible and I sincerely thank everyone at Gresham House for their warm welcome and hospitality!

As cliche as this sounds...Marilyn's beautiful smile lights up...no...it illuminates a room! It was a joy working for you and chatting business and life with you!

Max...aka "Dad"-it IS a wedding photographer thing : ) -full of great stories and totally embraced the whole modeling thing! I say we start building your modeling portfolio!

These are the friendly faces you'd meet coming into the office at Gresham House!

And Mark-I enjoyed working with you-actually Mark just lazed around most of the time-just kidding!...And if you're moving...he's your man-he is a great at moving furniture ; ) Again...I kid, but do go and check out Mark Elliotson's Graphic Design site-he rocks at what he does!

I should mention that Gresham House creates Canadian made and custom designed GORGEOUS furniture. I was blown away by their set up and the quality of their work-truly unique in what they do! I should also mention that they deal only with designers-so if that's you...you'll want to come back and visit-when their site goes live...I'll be sharing it with you!

The warehouse is filled with pieces covered in off-white fabric with the intention that you would choose a piece for the design and then choose the fabric...brilliant!
So...my greatest accolade yet? I have a furniture line named after me! I know! How many can say that? I thought Marilyn was kidding until I read the ad that will be featured in Canadian Living Magazine:

love this: bridesmaid dresses

Clearly, I need a much more creative title for this series. But this is where I'm going with it...maybe y'all can help a girl out and comment with what to name this (there could be a prize in it for the title chosen)...

I'm a helpful person...if I know where I am, and you ask for directions I will point you in the right direction, if I have an open hand I'll carry a few bags for you, I'd even open a door. With wedding season around the corner...there is a lot of talk about the flowers, the music, where can I find a super fabulous wedding cake (i know it always comes back to food)...and I wanna help you out-point you in the right direction.

So I'm posting here to offer a little guidance...it will be where I'll share some great wedding "finds" and wedding planning inspiration. On the flip side, if you know of great stuff & cool ideas...please leave your comments. I love blogs because of how they create community-this one will be a community of fabulous people planning memorable weddings...don't be shy-after all, sharing is caring.

So, as much as I love helping others...I also like to help myself-let me explain: I will be attending a few events this summer that will require me to put on a dress. Dresses are just not that comfortable to shoot in...but I do love a great dress. Add to that, my closet is yearning for something other than black shirts and dress pants. So I did a little on-line shopping around and then I found it...it was love at first glance...

can you hear that...it's begging me for a home. I love the simple lines and the added elegance with the ruffle. So fun!

This one I found at Bluefly and they have thousands of designs ranging in price. What a great place to shop for bridesmaids dresses! When chatting about selecting bridesmaid dresses-there is often this looming negative feeling-that it is the most impossible to find something for everyone and it's going to be a giant catastrophe...and I'll never wear this again....ok, who doesn't have a rack of old taffeta, beaded and colourful bridesmaid dresses??

You can't go wrong with the little black dress...found at Thread Design-sorry about the thumbnails-visit the site for a better image.

There's a small chance that all your friends have the same body type and they deserve to look modelicious so...Choose the colour of the dresses, select a seamstress but have the girls select the cut.

straight from sunny california

Guess what arrived today straight from sunny California!? Chloe ran into the house and dropped the mail on the table and on top of the pile was a postage claim ticket...I LOVE when one of these arrives.
And the arrival of this card is always followed by a mad dash to van, a speedy-but safe-drive to the post office where I anxiously wait for the postage person (there must be a better name...) to hand over my parcel. It's sometimes a long awaited album, or a collection of prints...today it was...

I can't even wait until I get home to peek inside the package and before I leave the parking lot I have already cut the box open with my keys...AND I know what's going to be inside-the stylish box it came in is a give away. Sigh...it's my Shoot Sac-hold on, I need a moment....sigh.

And it was a hard earned Shoot Sac...we strived to fight off the crowds of people in the WPPI trade show...waiting impatiently for their lens bags...it was madness, one might even say chaotic. But we survived and were rewarded with the best prize...a lens bag that any fashionista would be proud to wear. Not only is it functional but you can change up the covers to match your outfit!

So...less all the drama this is what happened:
We had the opportunity to help out in the Shoot Sac Booth at WPPI. It was a much needed break from thinking about business...after 3 days of seminars my brain was about to explode so the hours spent taking orders and selling Shoot Sacs was a much welcome distraction.

The Shoot Sac is the creation of Jessica Claire. The lens bag is just that...it's not meant to replace your camera bag but it's purpose is to allow you to keep your lenses close to you so that changing them during a shoot isn't a hassle anymore. I'm so excited to go out and use it-thank you Matt for hookin' this "Canadian Mom" up!

After working in the booth we followed Keats, Jessica's business partner up to her seminar. Jessica was refreshingly open and honest with how she does business-so many great ideas! She spoke of her top ten successes and her top ten mistakes-because that's how you best learn-by the things you mess up...and she also gave out her top ten favourite things: a GPS, an ipod, a few shoot sacs. Very cool!

Next time you see me shooting, I'll be sporting that stylish bag on my hip!
