At the age of twelve he was cast to play Edmund Pevensie in the films based on the seven classic children’s books by C.S. Lewis The Chronicles of Narnia. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe released in 2005 and Prince Caspian released May 2008. Both films are directed by Andrew Adamson. Skandar is playing Edmund again in Voyage of The Dawn Treader directed by Michael Apted and released in December 2010.

Skandar lives in London with his parents Randal Keynes and Zelfa Hourani, his sister Soumaya and two cats Miss ‘Peri’ Puss and Mr ‘Fil’ Boots. He is represented in the UK by Christian Hodell at Hamilton Hodell and in the US by Brian Swardstrom at Endeavor.

Skandar is now 19 and is at Cambridge University in England.

The culmination of almost a decade of writing and research, The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films is an unprecedented look at Howard Shore’s Academy Award®-winning score, with extensive music examples, original manuscript scores, a rarities CD, and glimpses into the creative process from the composer, himself.

The 416-page full-color volume features a Foreword by Howard Shore, an Introduction by The Lord of the Rings screenwriter/producer Fran Walsh, original sketches by John Howe and Alan Lee, and numerous images from the films. Also included in the book, courtesy of Howe Records, is “The Lord of the Rings: The Rarities Archive” a CD presenting 21 tracks of previously unreleased music created for the films, and an audio interview with Howard Shore.

The score for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy has been hailed as some of the greatest film music ever written. Sweeping in scope, it is a musical interpretation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth—an operatic tapestry of cultures, histories, languages, and people.

“Howard Shore’s [LOTR] music has touched millions of people the world over,” said Adams. “It’s been my great pleasure to assemble a piece that chronicles the creation of this music, and examines exactly how it tells this classic story.”

“Doug was a detective uncovering clues, tracing how one theme or character related to another,” said Shore. “He not only shows the themes and motifs for characters, cultures, objects, and their connection to Tolkien’s work, but also the ideas that were sometimes buried deep inside the writing.”

“Researching Shore’s music has been a true adventure,” described Adams. “His work is every bit as intricate and passionate as Tolkien’s Middle-earth.”

Doug Adams, a Chicago-based author and musicologist, was invited in 2001 by Howard Shore to observe and document his work on Peter Jackson’s motion picture trilogy. Adams attended recording sessions, examined the original scores, and was given complete access to the composer’s archives. As an acknowledged authority on Howard Shore’s music, Adams has become a regular fixture at concerts and events across the globe. He runs the popular blog, www.musicoflotr.com, which documents his work on this project and brings fans together in ongoing discussions.

Today the replica of the Matthew sits proudly in Bristol harbour for all to see. The general public are able to board the Matthew as well as embark on trips around the harbour.

In 1997 the replica Matthew followed the same course as John Cabot in 1497 and sailed across to Newfoundland. It carried the same number of crew members as the original and took the same and used the same amount of time to complete the crossing.

Next to these, Tolkien wrote and published an enormous amount of other books: Farmer Giles of Ham, Smith of Wootton Major, Roverandom, Mr. Bliss, Children of Hurin, Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun… to name some.

“This exhibition is a truly captivating and entertaining experience for all ages,” said GES EVP and Chief Creative Officer Eddie Newquist. “From the scene displays and props seen in the Narnia films, to the scientific and educational aspects of the exhibition that stimulate the senses and the mind, guests will be transported into another world to experience Narnia like never before.”

Once inside Narnia, visitors will view artifacts from C.S. Lewis’ personal study, including the original walk-in wardrobe that started it all. Other interactive and instructive elements include:

• An area featuring King Miraz’s Castle from The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian where visitors have the opportunity to build an arch while learning about the architectural structure and strategy involved in the design.
• A replica of the frozen waterfall from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, where visitors can be hands-on with the frigid structure. A nearby display describes the impact of climate change on our planet and investigates whether our planet could be frozen for 100 years like the world of Narnia.
• An area highlighting the mythical creatures of Narnia, which allows visitors to create their own creatures featured in the film. Three stacks of rotating, square blocks stand in three-, four- and six-foot configurations, each level featuring different aspects of a creature. By rearranging the different levels, visitors can create well-known characters from the Narnia films or mix and match the squares to create new characters.

With hands-on, interactive elements and original film artifacts, guests encounter topics like geography, archeology, engineering, humanity’s impact on nature and environmental changes. The Exhibition inspires visitors to learn more about the science behind The Chronicles of Narnia.

• NarniaMUCK is a role-playing game. In other words, we place our emphasis on role-play rather than on chatting, social activities and game mechanics. We do a lot of the chatting and being social stuff too, of course, but players are encouraged to focus on playing their characters most of the time.
• NarniaMUCK is a Christian game. We acknowledge the Christian elements of the books and we expect our players to respect them. Most (but not all) of the members of our staff are Christians.

The studio’s classic Emmy , Annie , and Peabody award winning animation includes features , television specials , industrials and commercial messages.

Hundreds of advertising commercials have been created and produced – spots for Metlife to McDonald’s , from Chevron to Cheerios to Knott’s Berry Farm.

The many animated characters brought to life include Babar the Elephant, Betty Boop, Cathy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy, Dick Deadeye and The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe.

Members of this group include C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, and discussions at this pub contributed to the final form of both Lewis’ Narnia books and Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series.

A memorial plaque is on a wall in the middle of the pub near the bar, along with a couple portraits and a framed paper bearing the signatures of Lewis, Tolkien, and other Inklings, saying they had drunk to the landlord’s health.

In addition to its historic and literary value, the Eagle and Child is also a pleasant place to stop for good food and drink. There is a non-smoking section in the back.

During term, we meet every Friday, usually in Christ Church. Our meetings take a variety of forms, but all are fun and sociable and include food provided by our Lembas Reps. The current termcard has more information on our planned meetings. Common events include:

• In Michaelmas – The Freshers’ Moot drinks evening, a Tolkien’s Oxford tour, a Trial (or, more recently, election debate), and the Gandalf’s Fireworks party.
• In Hilary – Most of the events focus on preparation for the Varsity Quiz against our counterparts in Cambridge, Minas Tirith, or our biggest annual event, the Society Banquet.
• In Trinity – A large variety of outdoors events, including outdoor games, the Golfimbul BBQ, the Strawberry Party, and plenty of punting.
• General meetings throughout the year include video meetings, crafts events, dramatic readings, or games evenings.

Anybody is welcome to attend our meetings, although several are members-only and those attending on a weekly basis are encouraged to sign up as a member of the society. Current membership rates are £8 for the first year, and £13 per year after that, and most of this money goes towards the food which is provided at each meeting and other running costs of the society.

One question we are frequently asked is how big a fan you need to be to attend society meetings – the answer is that everyone is welcome, from those who have read the Silmarillion multiple times, to those who have just seen the films, or maybe only have a budding interest in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Taruithorn has no entry requirements: we simply want people to come along and have fun – if you happen to learn something new about Tolkien along the way, all the better!

The tour duration which is approximately 3 hours, is organized by Ron Brind, childhood pal of Lewis’s stepson Douglas Gresham (Doug) and a frequent visitor to Lewis’s former Oxfordshire home in the 1950’s. The tour commences from outside the Randolph Hotel in Beaumont Street, Oxford, which is noted for its connections with Colin Dexter, who wrote the very famous Inspector Morse novels, and frequents the Randolph. En-route you will see the remains of the old ‘City Wall’, Magdalen College from Longwall Street where Lewis was elected a Fellow in 1925, Magdalen Bridge, where the famous Oxford May Day celebrations take place, and Magdalen College School, which was attended by Doug.

You will be taken through Headington to see one of the former homes of J R R Tolkien and to The Kilns, Lewis’s former home which was purchased jointly in October 1930 by Mrs Moore, Jack and Major Lewis. A short stroll away is the lake that yielded the Punt from the murky depths, owned by Lewis. How did the Punt get there? Find this out on the tour!

C.S. Lewis College will be rooted in the historic Christian faith and so structured as to ensure its fidelity to that profession. It will be characterized by a firm commitment to “Mere Christianity,” and therefore be inclusive of Christians of all traditions, whether they be Evangelical, Catholic, mainline Protestant, Baptist, or Orthodox.

In the spirit of C.S. Lewis, the envisioned college will actively encourage opportunities to discover the vitality and profound relevance of the Christian faith as it is lived openly within the larger pluralistic setting of mainstream colleges and universities.

The Society endeavours to cover a wide range of subjects at its meetings, the core of the term’s activities being the speaker meetings, at which guest speakers talk about one of the authors, or some other related topic, from a personal or scholarly point of view.

Meetings are usually held in Pusey House on Tuesday evenings of Full Term. The Society continues the tradition of the Inklings by retiring after most meetings to the ‘Eagle and Child’ for general discussion. As well as speakers, there are informal meetings, poetry and prose readings, and occasional outings to country pubs. Membership is not restricted to members of the University.

For parents who were uneasy about some of the themes of sorcery and other non-Christian values that permeate the Harry Potter series, The Chronicles of Narnia offer their children a fantasy well-grounded in Christian values. Author C.S. Lewis is a noted Christian writer, whose book “Mere Christianity” is considered a classic work. That said, most people read and enjoy the Chronicles of Narnia without ever noticing the Christian aspects.
