A little help from my NETELLER friends

Today we have a guest blog from Klaus, author of Techpatio.com, on his customer service experience with NETELLER.

I have an online bank account with NETELLER that I use for online stuff, much like PayPal, except that NETELLER also offers you a prepaid MasterCard® to use all over the world and in shops, which is great!

I found out they had disabled my account to “protect my personal information.” I contacted their support team and was told to provide a credit card statement showing the credit card number that I’ve used to deposit money. I explained to them that I didn’t have such a statement and my kind of Visa card didn’t work like that, no separate credit card statement and nothing with the credit card number on it – only bank account statements.

They basically just told me to e-mail their identity verification team with the information I had so they could have a look at it. So I did my best to explain the situation and e-mailed them.

I wasn’t happy about the situation though. I had my online bank account with my money in it and I couldn’t get to it – just 1 small login screen away from me, which I could not pass!

The rescue

I just happened to know that NETELLER had at least 1 Twitter account and it seemed to be pretty active, so I decided to give it a go and see what happened:

@thuesen: Freakin’ NETELLER closed my damn account again to “protect my personal information”. Argh!

A few minutes later, this appeared in my twitter feed:

@neteller @thuesen Hi, we’re here to help! Follow us and send us a DM and we’ll have things sorted out for you right away.

I wrote them back a DM asking for a phone call so I could explain better.

The call

Just a few minutes later a woman from NETELLER called me up – she just had a quick look at my account and was willing to let me explain in full what happened and what I could and could not do, without interrupting me (thank you!).

She asked me to forward the stuff I had just sent to their identity team and she would look at it immediately.

Less than 20 minutes after my initial Twitter message, my NETELLER account was now open again – I was able to login, deposit etc.
That’s just amazing – and a big thanks to Jag, VIP Account Manager from NETELLER! I don’t know if Jag is her full first name – but if it is, that’s one very cool name!

What else could I do than tweet my thank you to NETELLER after it was sorted out right away.

Even though NETELLER is a big company with many employees – it’s employees like Jag that make you enjoy having an account with them and being a customer. She was not just one of those “sorry, no can do, send an e-mail to this and that” kind of people. She took action and wasn’t afraid to deliver on her promise. I like that.

The lesson

I guess the lesson to be learned from this experience is that sometimes you might get lucky and get a hold of somebody within a company that has the ability and authority to take action – and that person, in this case, just so happened to be on Twitter!

No matter what, this certainly was a pleasant experience on top of 2.5 hours worth of trouble with an ISP Customer Support earlier this evening.

Leanne here! I am the Senior Marketing Program Manager of NETELLER’s loyalty and retention programs. My team and I are constantly making updates and changes to VIP program benefits and offers based on VIP activities, requests and suggestions. I joined NETELLER in August 2005 and moved to the Marketing team where I later became the VIP program lead in September 2008. I’ve always had a passion for member loyalty programs and enjoy every moment working with my amazing colleagues and interacting with our VIP members.

When I’m not working I’m learning computer programming, reading endless books on my Kindle, playing Diablo II (can’t WAIT for III to come out… if it ever does) and visiting local markets for the fresh ingredients I like to use in my daily kitchen experiments.

Plumbing, electricity, movie nights with your friends, maybe a car, and a decent education; these seem like pretty standard necessities. What about the rest of the world? Imagine a life without plumbing, limited electricity, absolutely no movie nights with friends because you’re too busy gathering water 5 miles from home in order to feed your family.

If you could help provide those essentials for families, helping children go to school, creating jobs within communities, food and shelter, and your donations actually helped communities develop in the long term, would you donate?

Penny’s success story

"Penny," a 27 year old single mother of 2 was like many women in her community, finding it difficult to support herself and her children. Although Penny had many disadvantages, she never gave up hope. Through the support of 7 kindhearted lenders, Penny was able to open up her own café shop, employ 1 assistant, and send her children to school. Penny’s donations not only went to support 1 individual or family, but reached an entire community.

Having the student tuition blues? Going to school nowadays can be quite expensive. Last year I was feeling pretty down about my cash flow situation. I did some research, looked around, and finally came up with these 10 tips that helped keep my budget and my stress on track.

10 tips to help students save money

1. Drop the fancy data and phone plans

We are told through the media that we need fancy data plans, unlimited SMS, and free calling. Communications companies even have plans specifically for students. I recommend dropping the big data plan, as most phones come equipped with Wi-Fi, and your campus usually provides free Wi-Fi. Keep your phone for important calls. You can use online calling services such as Skype and ooVoo to make free calls PC to PC, or use your Net+ Prepaid MasterCard® to set up a paid account.

2. Laptops and Gadgets

Shop early. Typically by August all of the major electronics retailers have their back to school sales for computers. Buy what you need, don’t get lured into fancy features that usually end up costing you more. Keep an eye out for exclusive student deals.

3. Meals on us

Ever heard about the school meal plans? Try to avoid these if you can. School meal plans are more expensive than they sound, and will actually end up costing you more. On the other hand, having your grocery money lying around your house might vanish too quickly on video games, booze and parties. Instead, I use my Net+ card as my meal card; it’s accepted anywhere you can use MasterCard. I buy all my groceries on my card, putting 150 USD on my card every month. This way I can ensure I don’t spend beyond my means.

4. Avoid fancy gyms

Doctors recommend 1 hour of physical activity each day. There’s many alternative ways of getting this physical activity other than paying 30+ EUR for a gym membership every month. Your school will typically have a free gym for students – check that out first. Second, drop by the athletics department; most student organizations offer several intramural teams and pick-up games to join. It’s great way to stay active and make new friends, all for free.

5. Leave the car at home

The cost of gas, insurance, car payments, and parking are just too much for any student to afford. You don’t need a car, especially when there’s public transportation available at a fraction of the cost. Don’t forget, skateboarding, rollerblading, biking and walking can also get your around for free.

6. Buy used books

After my first semester, I realized that new textbooks were a waste, especially since I would never open them again. You can save a small fortune by buying used books. 7. Don’t pay bank fees

You need to store all your hard earned cash, scholarship, or student loan money somewhere. At work I’m on the web, at home I’m on the web. I could probably surf the web all day. Maybe that makes me a computer geek, but I’d like to think of myself as web savvy. Either way, I can’t stress enough how important it is to look out for security features when shopping online. It’s so easy to get dumped onto the wrong site with just a click of a mouse. To avoid any viruses, misunderstandings or stolen information, I’ve created a short list of helpful tips.

7 tips to stay safe while surfing the web

Prizes/Promotions: Yup, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. Don’t waste your time trying to shoot the monkey for a new iPad.
Personal information: Don’t give out your personal information; keep your information and credit cards safe. Use NETELLER’s eWallet and Net+ Virtual Card when shopping online to keep your information private.

Deposit funds to your NETELLER eWallet

It's easy to make a local deposit using Cobro Express and Bapro. Just follow these steps:

Sign into your NETELLER account and select the DineroMail banner.
Enter your Account ID and the amount you wish to deposit .
Select your deposit option and complete your deposit.
