So a couple of months ago, I wrote a few blog entries about how I’ve already used NETELLER’s online money transfer service to save myself time and money. I talked about using Money Transfer to save myself headaches while sending funds to friends and family overseas.

The problem is, while the convenience of the service is obvious to everyone who reads the blog, it’s less clear how Money Transfer saves you money, unless you know the ins and outs as well as I do.

Stop paying someone else’s rent

I’ll start by talking about the most visible form of Money Transfer – the kiosk. You’ve probably seen Western Union kiosks around the world if you’ve done any traveling. These stand alone locations charge a lot for transfers because both the sending and receiving kiosk agents need to get a cut of the money transfer transaction.

Their customers usually pay higher fees to cover the rent for their kiosk location, as well as wages for staffing the kiosk. The kicker is that this type of money transfer service is less convenient and no safer than many online money transfers.

Stop paying fees you didn’t know you had to pay

The next most visible form of money transfer is bank transfers. The problem with this one is that when sending money between two banks, a sender (and the sender’s bank) has no control over additional hidden fees that the receiving bank might charge the receiver before releasing the funds.

In effect, the amount received will always be less than what the sender expected it to be. With hidden fees, you never know how much of what you send will actually arrive. And that’s a pretty important thing to know.

NETELLER members in Japan: Upgrading your eWallet is easy!

Hi, my name is Tanaka. I help a lot of our Japanese members upgrade their account every day. Have you upgraded your account yet? You can get more from your NETELLER account by upgrading and using more of our features. It’s free, and not as difficult as you might think.

The process

In order to upgrade your account, you first need to email us some documents. Then you complete a phone call with NETELLER customer service. That’s it!

Some of you may have questions, such as “What documents do I need to send?” or “How do I send them?” To answer those questions, we made a YouTube video just for Japanese members.

Documents needed

Now let’s take a look at the documents we need you to email us.

1. Photo ID proving your identity
We accept any 1 of the following items:
a) Driver’s License (front and back)
b) Juki Card (front and back)
c) ARC (Alien Resident Card) (front and back)

For certain members we also require you to provide a document proving your address. This is the case if you submit a photo ID where the address is different from the address registered to your NETELLER account.

2. Document proving your address
We accept any 1 of the following items:
a) Utility bill (gas, water, electricity, home phone, internet)
b) Credit card bill
c) Government tax statement (property, car etc.)
d) Government pension or healthcare statement
e) Fine or any kind of government statement
f) Bank statement or official letter issued by bank (must be stamped and showing date of issue) on your NETELLER account.

When emailing in your documents, please ensure:

• The digital photo (taken with digital camera or mobile phone that can take a clear photo) is in colour
• All information is in focus
• All 4 corners are visible
• The photo ID is not expired

Please also make sure:

• Your proof of address document has been issued within the last 3 months
• Don’t send us mobile phone bill statements (not accepted)
• Don’t send us scans or photographs of bills or statements printed off the internet (original document must be a paper letter)

Different ways to use your NETELLER account

By now you know that you can send money to multiple merchants, but I like to use this account as my “travel budget.” I simply transfer a little money each month into my NETELLER account to help save for my annual vacation. Since my account is in Euro (and I’m planning a trip to Greece next summer), I can save in the currency that I’ll be using on my trip (with no surprises or huge credit card bills to pay off post-vacation).

I’m planning on using my Net+ card to pay for hotels while in Greece and I can easily access funds at local ATMs that bear the MasterCard® symbol.

Control your spending with Net+

You can use your Net+ card to pay anywhere MasterCard is accepted. It’s quick and easy to do. Plus, consider the money in your NETELLER eWallet account your “discretionary” funds. It’s a great way to control your spending. It’s also private. No statements are sent to your home address. This includes your Net+ usage too so there’s no paper trail of your shopping habits. In my first post from Betsson Estoril LIVE I told you about the great people I encountered upon arriving in Portugal, the fabulous Betsson team that helped us out and, of course, the grand Casino Estoril. Now that I’m settled in, let me tell you how things are going.

The main event

Registrants began arriving in the afternoon where they were greeted and signed up for VIP accounts. When all was said and done we had welcomed a bunch of new VIPs and members to NETELLER. The main event began at 3:10pm and the hospitality lounge died down immediately as all eyes turned to the tables.

Bittersweet victory

Of course, not everyone can be a winner. As a consolation prize, Miguel got $500 for being first out. I felt horrible for him because he told me that there aren’t a lot of tournaments in Lisbon (and area) so it’s a shame that one of the local players was out so soon. We wish him the best in the future and hope he enjoys his new NETELLER account. Bad tournament luck aside, Miguel was really excited to start using his account and appreciative that he got VIP status for 3 months!

What the players are up to

For those more fortunate at the tables, Betsson hosted a range of activities, including a trip to Lisbon, where the players shopped at their favourite stores and roamed the streets to their hearts content. I hope some of them had a chance to visit venues such as the Castle of Seujorge, Monastery of St. Jeronimos, the Maritime Museum and Monument of Vasio de Gama to catch views of the Tagus River. There’s lots of fun to be had!

Maybe too much fun

As far as the highlight of the night goes, rumour has it that 2 Finnish players went onstage and stapled the program to their tongues while talking to the crowd. Eek! That definitely gave them a good excuse to drink after a stunt like that! The worst part was that we totally missed it!

Who we’ve met so far

We are meeting and greeting members from Iceland, the UK, Germany and a lot from Sweden and Norway. They’re all fantastic and have great senses of humour.

Many of our current members are happy to see us and have stopped by our NETELLER booth to get the most up-to-date information from the source. And the players here are a lot of fun and they’re very enthusiastic about our products.
