Rememberance of 9/11

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the September 11th tragedy; a tragedy befallen not only my home country the US, but the entire world. The word anniversary eludes to celebration. One this day, we commemorate. As I write, my heart swells with sadness, my eyes fill with tears.

My reflections......

On that day, 9/11, I was vacationing with friends in Hilton Head, SC on the eastern coast. An early start to the day; they were taking a swim while I was enjoying coffee, watching Good Morning America. However, this would be no good morning ... only mourning.

Breaking news. I felt the shock. Moments later I watched live as the second plane crashed into the tower. I cried. I ran outside to tell my friends. Others heard me - sprinting from the pool to their rooms to see the news for themselves. The panic was palpable.

We sat together around the television for many hours, as the events of that dreadful day continued to unfold. No one knew quite what to say or to feel. All of us deeply saddened, filled with grief, fearful, nearly paralyzed.

I had no friend or loved one flying that day. No personal connection to anyone in New York or DC, to anyone in the military, to anyone who might have perished. Yet, I felt connected .... I believe we were all connected in some sense.

We all remember in our own way, and not just today. I no longer see those friends - due to circumstances which transpire over the course of a decade in life. I wish them well, with love. I'm certain they too will reflect on that day and those events and how we were together through it all, much as I have in my thoughts and in writing.

September 11, 2001 changed our world forever. Many events before and since have made similar impacts.

I look to the future for peace, for harmony, and love for All - earth, animal, humankind.

These were simply my reflections ~ I welcome you to share yours.

First, thanks to Misty (@Mysticle) for allowing me to post on her blog today! Today, more than 25 bloggers, including this one, are standing with me to Ask 5 for 5 for Africa. Here's why....

I began pursuing a BIG dream two weeks ago. After deciding I could no longer avoid the news about the famine in the horn of Africa, I had that gut feeling that I couldn't sit this one out. I HAD to do something because I could. Something bigger than I could do alone. That's when #Ask5for5 was born.

Two of my children, Ashen and Bereket, were adopted and are from the region affected by the drought in Ethiopia. They would be two of the statistics if they still lived there. I see my son’s and daughter’s faces in the photos of those suffering in the refugee camps. It could have been him. It could have been her. The thought haunts me.

And moms just like us are watching their children go hungry day after day. I can't imagine what it's like, but I have to –I have to be there to help them, because it could have been my children. These families have lost their livestock, their crops, food prices are inflated at the market if there any food there, and don’t have any more lifelines to tap into. Many are traveling hundreds of miles through parched land in hope of finding help. Many are dying along the way. It is estimated that 29,000 children have died in the last 90 days in the famine in Somalia alone.

But I KNOW we can do something about it. Instead of feeling overwhelmed and paralyzed, we can rally ourselves and our friends to respond! I set up a fundraiser through See Your Impact. 100% of your gift will go to the relief and development organization World Vision, where it will be combined with government grants to multiply up to 5 times in impact!

You’ll receive updates on just how your funding is being used to help save lives affected by famine in East Africa. I'm amazed at how much we've raised already -- over $7,000 in just four days! We blew through our first 3 goals in just 3 days and are well on our way to $10,000 and beyond!

First New Moon of the Decade, 2011

Overnight tonight will occur the first new moon of 2011, at 09:03 UT and 13 degrees Capricorn. This is a powerful new moon, as it coincides with the first Solar eclipse of the year on January 4th.

This is a time to open yourself to abundance and prosperity through manifesting. We can tap into the intense energies of the new moon. I use this time to affirm and renew, to invigorate, to inspire myself.

Particularly for Sagittarius, this new moon is about fresh starts and opening new income sources, as it falls into our second solar house of earned income. You can read more about the Sagittarius forecast for January (and for your sign too) here.

Internationally recognized spiritual teacher/facilitator, astrologer Dipali Desai writes “New Moon phase of the lunar cycle is considered to be fertile and auspicious for a new beginning. I open my senses, attuning to the signals from my higher-self. I feel love and gratitude, and cast these feelings into the universe. In a peaceful, silent moment, I will ask the universe to provide abundance and I will trust the universe to find a way.

Social Media Conferences ~ Let's Get Social

Social Media is a Hot Mess. Joanna Lord said it best during her presentation at SearchEx earlier this year. We hear it every day, everywhere, and I'm excited to be part of this rapidly evolving craze.

This year, I've been lucky enough to attend three Social Media Conferences. The above mentioned, PubCon Dallas, and SES NY were all fantastic experiences, no doubt. I learned a great deal and met so many amazing people. Listening to Scott Stratten, also known as the unmarketing guy, deliver his keynote speech at PubCon with such energy and enthusiasm, and then later meeting him ... well, that was a highlight of my trip.

Really, that is what it's all about for me. Networking. Being SOCIAL. Learning too, of course, but that's just a bonus.

I hope to attend more Social Media Conferences and Events like the upcoming SocialFresh in Charlotte later this month. These events offer tremendous opportunity for networking. I've been able to meet and chat with the faces that I tweet, both locally and around the globe.

I wasn't able to attend SoFresh last year, when Jason Keath launched it in the Queen City. Twitter and hashtags helped me follow the buzz; however, this year I want to be right there in the Hot Mess.

Social Networking to Target Your Art Market

Facebook and Twitter (and email to some extent) give you the chance to connect with like-minded buyers, patrons, business partners, and fellow artists in a way that was only possible in local communities before. There is a very good chance that you can build real relationships that lead to sales. But here is the key:

Be yourself, share your values, share your passion. Be respectful of other people’s viewpoints but don’t modify yourself. Say what is true for you with your voice and your paintbrush. Do it in your local community, do it on facebook and twitter, do it with your email list. For sure, some people will drop away, but they’ll be replaced by others who are more likely to “get” you and your work.

Tuesday Tips : Google Friend Connect Welcome Greeting

You can enhance your blog by adding a personal welcome greeting for your new Google Friend Connect followers, as I have done.

First, log into your Google Friend Connect administrator page. From the left sidebar, choose the blog you wish to work with.

Next, you will choose the Site Settings tab in the left sidebar. Some admin pages are experiencing issues showing this tab. In that case, you can access Site Settings by manually correcting the URL (see below).

Replace the word Overview with the word Settings

Once you have accessed Site Settings, you need to open the Advanced tab. From there, look for the box below Join Confirmation message:

In this box, you can enter a personal greeting to welcome all new members who join your blog through Google Friend Connect. Limited HTML markup is available, and you may include alternate links.

In my opinion, this is a great enhancement feature for your blog, and well worth the minimal effort.

From the award-winning documentary, "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music", comes the first of many "songs around the world" being released independently.

Four years ago while walking down the street in Santa Monica, CA the voice of Roger Ridley singing “Stand By me” was heard from a block away. His voice, soul and passion set us on a course around the world to add other musicians to his performance. This song transformed Playing For Change from a small group of individuals to a global movement for peace and understanding. This track features over 35 musicians collaborating from all over the world. They may have never met in person, but in this case, the music does the talking.

Tuesday Tips : Google Friend Connect

Google Friend Connect is a great tool for enhancing the social aspect of your blog. Visitors can follow your blog using their Google, Yahoo, AIM, or OpenID account. Google Friend Connect is completely integrated with Google Profiles and with Blogger. Followers can also friend each other on your site and around the Blogosphere.

In your individual Google Profile, you can choose which of your own links you wish to include. This helps friends to connect with you around the web. I wrote more about Profiles in my last Tuesday Tips segment. Your readers may also choose to follow and display their Blogger Profile, and show a list of their own blogs, as well as other blogs they follow.

I recommend that you follow your own blogs, so readers may connect and friend you through Google Friend Connect. I've found that you will not see another user's friend request unless you are visiting the same blog where they sent their request from. I always search through followers of blogs I join, looking for friendly faces and, of course, for the blog author.

I simply enjoy networking with people. Google Friend Connect is a great tool for your blog. Joining other sites, which you enjoy reading, will also help drive traffic back to your own sites. For more information and helpful hints, follow Google's Social Web Blog here.

Hi Everyone ~ I hope you all took pleasure in a wonderful holiday season, with family and friends. A new decade is upon us, and I'm very excited for all the potentials awaiting.

This year, with my blogging, I plan to introduce a few weekly/monthly series of posts. I truly enjoy writing and communicating with people around the globe. Equally, I hope You, my readers, enjoy my posts. We are here to share and network.

I would like to introduce Tuesday Tips. Here I will share some tips and tricks I've learned to help with your social media experience ... everything from blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Ning, etc. I'm optimistic that you'll find my suggestions useful. Today, let's start with an easy one ... your Google Profile. You can create your own personal profile on Google, just like I have here.

Happiest Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday that many in the US celebrate. It is a time to give thanks, to harvest, to celebrate and express gratitude.

I am blessed in so many ways in this life. I have my health and the security of a warm, dry place to sleep every night. My family is dear and loving and so supportive. My friends are wonderful and caring and make me laugh. My sweet, devoted rescue pets bring me joys every day ... I know they are grateful for the second chance that my home provides. My partner provides love and attention, and he puts a smile on my face.

Create Change Through Positive Energy : Blog Action Day

I believe in our ability to 'create our day' or 'create our world'. A simple concept: if we focus on the negative, we bring about more negative. If we set our intentions toward a positive change, we generate positive results.

It upsets me to see acres upon acres or forests destroyed, for industrialized development's sake. It upsets me to observe people tossing all of their waste into the "trash" bins at our recycling center, instead of making a small effort to recycle. However, with this post, I'll focus on a few Solutions to impact climate change. If more of us set our intentions on constructive means, our positive energy will flow into the Universe. Really, it's all about living Green.

~ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - we've all heard this phrase. How many actually take the steps?

~ Invest in green bags, and remember to Use them. Keep a few in your vehicle, so they're accessible. Not to say that you need to drive to the store every time ... walk or ride your bike.

~ Limit your need for driving, when you can. We (my partner and I) are lucky enough to live in an area where we can walk to many stores and restaurants. I have friends using public transportation or they carpool to work.

~ While I'm on this subject, here's another idea. Replace your gas powered tools (mower, trimmer, etc) for electric or rechargeable cordless electric models. Better still: buy a manual mower - that's what we use for our small lawn.

~ Eat organic, or vegetarian if you choose. Even if you do this once or twice a week, it will make a difference. If you want to learn more about the Why: read this article. It certainly opened my eyes.

~ Turn out the lights! Not just the lights, but your computer and printer, and other electronics when they're not in use. Most computers have a hibernate mode, which works nicely. While you're at it, invest in compact fluorescent bulbs for the house ... you can gradually replace standard bulbs.

The Sagittarius born are known as the philosophers of the zodiac. Yes, I am one of them. More and more I find myself pondering the collective consciousness. I, along with many others, believe we are moving towards an awakening. I read, study, and analyze. I connect myself with others, to consider varying thoughts and ideas. I contemplate.

We do possess the ability to expand the collective consciousness, through awareness and unity. It is within our human potential.

I wanted to share this interesting video clip from a profound movie "What the Bleep Do We Know." The clip includes an interview with Dr. Masaru Emoto, the Japanese author of "Messages from Water."

Dr. Emoto's studies have proven that human speech or thoughts, when directed at water droplets before they are frozen, result in the formation of water crystal images upon freezing. These appearance of these crystal images is determined based upon whether the words or thoughts were positive or negative. Dr. Emoto captured and documented the water's 'expressions' photographically.

This certainly offers a concept to ponder.

"All speech, action, and behavior are fluctuations of consciousness. All life emerges from, and is sustained in, consciousness. The whole universe is the expression of consciousness. The reality of the universe is one unbounded ocean of consciousness in motion.
