If any of you have children, I am sure you have heard of Webkinz.  These cute little plush toys come with a code that can be entered into the Webkinz website, and your kids can take care of their cat, dog, unicorn (or whatever toy/pet), online as well as real life.  For those of you that don’t know, Webkinz are a very successful product, you can find two or three (if not more), in anyone’s house that has children older than 5 or 6.  Webkinz is now expanding their line to be more appealing to the younger bunch.  Webkinz Jr. is the same concept as the original Webkinz, but the plush toy is bigger and the website is more simple for preschoolers (suggested ages 3 – 6) to use.

I received a Monkey Webkinz Jr. for review.  The first thing I noticed about the Webkinz Jr. is that is was much larger than the original.  My daughter loves hanging onto her large soft plush monkey, she carries him around the house and says “eee – eee – eee”, like a monkey.

Now, my daughter is still too young to use the computer on her own, but I am sure she will be learning sooner rather than later.  A few years ago, before there were many websites for  young kids, I recall my cousin’s 3 year old using You Tube to search for Teletubbies videos.  I was absolutely amazed at how well she could use the computer, but wasn’t sure if You Tube was the best option for her.  Now with something like Webkinz Jr. children can learn important computer skills on a website that is child friendly, so there is no need for parents to worry what their children could stumble upon on the internet.

The Webkinz Jr. websites allows children to take care of their virtual pet to make sure they are happy, and within the community children can learn and play (and probably not even know that they are learning things).  They can have fun learning about numbers, reading, and expanding their computers skills at the same time. Parents you can make the online world age appropriate for your kids depending on their learning stage.  As your children get older, you can increase the learning levels.

I think it’s great for young kids to have a safe online environment that will teach them computer skills.  I also like that there is no need for parents to worry about what their kids are doing on the Webkinz Jr. website.

This is a repost, but there is a giveaway this time!

Ever notice how kids frequently end up in the same (or close to) professions as their parents?  Lawyers kids end up as lawyers, doctors have doctors, business persons have kids that end up in business.  I’m not sure why this happens, but it probably has something to do with kids seeing their parents success (or the parents encouraging their kids to take the same route that they did).  Either way, I’m sure you can all agree that this happens frequently.

I work in finance (my dad was a business man).  I always loved math while in school, whether it was simple addition or stats classes, I always enjoyed math and did well at it, so really it’s not surprising that I ended up in finance rather than an English teacher.

LeapFrog is one of the best selling and most recommended educational brands by Moms (and us Moms know what we are talking about – right? ) My daughter will be watching LeapFrog: Math Adventure to the Moon regularly to give her a jump start in math.  My husband wasn’t as strong in math as I was, so it will be interesting to see who’s genes she received. Whether she ends up in computers, business, or as an English teacher, it doesn’t really matter as long as she is happy.  I may as well get her started early with Math, and Thanks so LeapFrog: Math Adventures to the  Moon, we can learn together.

For review, Woobie Wear sent us a hat, and headband, along with a few interchangeable hair clips.  This is actually Woobie Wear’s claim to fame.  The hair clips at Woobie Wear can be worn on any crotched hat or headband.  My daughter is pretty finicky.  I would love for her to have a hat on everyday, but at only 18 months, she has a mind of her own.  Some days she will leave a hat on her head,  and other days I am not quite so lucky.  Same goes for the super adorable crotched hat and flower clips that we received.  Although I would like her to wear her hat everyday, it’s just not going to happen.  She did, however, wear it the very first day is showed up in the mail, and seemed to enjoy her new hat and fab yellow and pink flower!

What I like about Woobie Wear is that the clips can be worn on hats, headbands or in the hair (when my daughter is older), or the hats and headbands can be worn without the hair clips.  It really is up to you how you get your little princess dressed up.  With all the choices available, you are sure to find something to match any outfit.  If it were up to me, she would have something this adorable on her head everyday – this is part of the fun of having a girl – playing dress up.  I’m hoping as she gets older, she will enjoy hats more - because as you can see above, they really do look adorable on her.

I have never had the desire to be a teacher.  While growing up, I really didn’t have a desire to be anything other than a housewife and a mother.  As I got older, I went onto university and received a Bachelors Degree in Commerce, a choice I have never regretted.  However, after reading Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teachers Tales, there is a part of me that wishes I had chosen another career path.

These Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teachers Tales have really touched my heart in a deep way.  I go to work everyday, push paper around, save the company some money and then I come home.  I don’t get any heart melting moments when my boss comes to me and lets me know that I have made a difference in their life and they are a better person because of what I have done for them.  I don’t get the personal gratitude of seeing someone achieve a marvelous accomplishment because I have helped them through a hard time in their life.  I get a pay cheque every 2 weeks – that’s pretty much it.

Teachers are generally wonderful people, with so much love, encouragement and strength.  They see opportunities in children and go with it to help those kids grow.  My favourite teacher throughout my days in school is by far Mrs. Hattie.  She was my grade primary teacher.  She was just so kind, patient and loving. There is nothing that she wasn’t capable of doing.  The stories in the Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teachers Tales are about teachers like Mrs. Hattie.

In fact, the 101 stories are from the 2009 State Teachers of the Year, the 2009 National Teacher of the Year and many other deserving teachers that have seen and done some incredible things for their students.  There are also some student tales in this book which have made me think about sending a kind letter to my teachers thanking them for what they have done in my life.  The stories are not all sappy,  there are some funny ones, and some amazing success stories. Some of the chapters include Learning from the Kids, Thanks I needed that, That was Embarrassing and Tough Kids among others.  I’m sure these are all topics that each and every teacher can relate to.

I have throughly enjoyed Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teachers Tales.  Teachers go through some really tough times, but they seem to still come out on top and have the best interest of the children in mind.  They also have a very rewarding career, when they are able to see their students accomplish goals and celebrate with them.  In a certain way, I envy teachers for that, in another way, I don’t think I would be able to put up with all the other parts of teaching.  There’s a lot to be said about someone who choses teaching as a career path, and Chicken Soup for the Soul: Teachers Tales has really opened my eyes to those who chose that path.

As much as I love the look of flowers, I wish they weren’t quite so expensive and lasted a little bit longer.  I received a few beautiful bouquets when I was in the hospital for the birth of my daughter.  I was in the hospital for 4 days, and I don’t think either of the bouquets made it home with us, as they had already withered.   The Baby Bunch has come up with an amazing solution to this problem.  Rather than giving new parents a bouquet of flowers, you can give them a bouquet of clothing – huh – you ask?!?  It’s the same idea as a diaper cake, but in the shape of a bouquet of flowers, and rather than diapers, onesies and socks are the gift.

I received a medium sized Baby Bunch bouquet in blue for review.  My best friend growing up was due for a baby boy any day, so I knew this would be the prefect gift for her.  She is a “girly girl” and loves things like flowers.  I wanted to give this gift to her as soon as possible, but she was sick and really needed to take things easy so the bouquet had to wait.  If I had a real bouquet of flowers, my husband and I would have had to enjoy them at our house, but thankfully, these beautiful roses didn’t shrivel up.

The bouquet includes:

• two blue onesies
• one blue t-shirt
• one blue bib
• one blue hat
• blue pair of socks
• white pair of socks

Each item is rolled up really tight to look like a rose, and there are fabric roses and fake leaves surrounding the bouquet which makes it look “real” and very professionally made.  The flowers came in a very nice box with a clear plastic cover, which made for easy presentation as a gift.  The other option is to take the bouquet out of the box and put it in a vase.

There are so many options at The Baby Bunch.  They have bouquets in pink, blue, yellow, white and apricot for the organic types.  They also have cupcake onesies (the onesies are all shaped and put into a box to look like cupcakes), lollipop onesies, and crayon rompers.  All these gifts are a unique way to present a very practical gift.  Rather than just giving some clothing in a regular gift bag, Baby Bunch has some really adorable ways to give a gift that would otherwise be practical, but a little boring.

As for my girl friend, she absolutely loved her gift (how can you not).  She had never seen anything so clever.  I have to tell you, I really felt good about giving such a wonderful gift as well.  Sure, there are many things to get someone that just had a baby, but this gift seems to have Mom, Dad and baby all in mind.  The parents will love seeing the beautiful flowers, and the baby will be able to wear the gift.  I’m sure the parents will have a difficult time undoing the bouquet to use the clothing – that’s how pretty it is.  But not to worry becuase they fit up to 16 pounds.  I’m sure by 6 months time they will have run out of clean clothing at least a few times!

John Travolta and Robin Williams (both on my favourite Actor list), come together in a movie about friendship, business and parenthood in Old Dogs.  This Walt Disney  family friendly movie is out on DVD and Blu-Ray March 9th.

Here’s a Synopsis:

Dan (Robin Williams) and his best friend and business partner Charlie (John Travolta) are on the verge of the biggest deal in the history of their sports marketing firm when their lives are turned upside down by a surprise visit from Dan’s ex-wife Vicki (Kelly Preston). Vicki has big news for Dan—their ever-so-brief liaison produced twins Zach (Conner Rayburn) and Emily (Ella Bleu Travolta), now seven-years-old and in need of a dad to keep an eye on them for two weeks. With only high-living playboy Charlie for support, Dan’s bumbling attempts at “on the job training” in fatherhood result in a series of disastrously funny exploits that lead him to a new understanding of what really matters in life. Featuring an extraordinary cast of comedy purebreds including Seth Green, Matt Dillon and Lori Loughlin, Old Dogs will have audiences rolling over and begging for more.

My husband and I watched this movie together and had some really hard belly laughs, and I even had a few little tears at some points.  This movie is great for families as it has no swearing, no violence and no adult content.  It’s an excellent innocent movie that they whole family can enjoy.  The younger kids will enjoy some of the typically funny scenes (getting hit in the crotch), and there are quite a few unpredictable funny parts that had my husband and I laughing out loud.

In my view, you can’t really go wrong with a movie that has both John and Robin in it.  Both are fantastic actors, and Old Dogs is no exception.  This is a feel good movie, that may put a few things into perspective in your own life.
