My Non-Valentine Heart Challenge Card

So, yesterday I challenged myself to come up with a card using the Heart Framelits that is not a Valentine's Day card. I ended up with two! I came up with a card that I liked so much that I decided to keep it for my Creative and Crafty Die Cutting Newsletter.(click for more information.)

Since my CCDC projects are exclusive to that newsletter, I had to create another card and I decided to make one based heavily on one presented to us on stage at Leadership.

I loved the layout of a card presented by Shelli, the owner of Stampin' Up!, and I knew that I would be recreating it in some way. I decided to use the Nature Walk stamp set since I did not want a Valentine theme.

I loved the way she sewed the graduated hearts to the center of the card I used the largest heart for the Baja Breeze heart and then a dropped a couple of frames to cut the heart from First Edition Designer Series Paper. The smallest heart I used was cut from Crumb Cake card stock. All of the hearts were accented with Soft Suede ink.

The sewing was so easy with the Linen Thread. I just pierced holes on the fold with the paper piercer and mat

pack and then sewed the thread through the holes with a needle (a large one). I did not add many large embellishments to the center of the card because I wanted it to somewhat close. There is a lot of decoration in the center, but there is still plenty of room to write to the recipient.

Can You Use Hearts After Valentine's Day?

Happy Valentine's Day! This is the banner we made in my Valentine's Class in January.

I was thinking the other day about the Heart Framelits I love and wondering how much I will use them after Valentine's Day. So, my challenge to myself today is to create a card with the Heart Framelits that is not for Valentine's Day.

I Love this! Make Your Own Printables with My Digital Studio

This is so cool! You can make your own printables with My Digital Studio. My son Jack needed a couple more Valentine's for his class, so I decided to make a few more with My Digital Studio.

I have to say I love the way these turn out. I will have to make some of these for Cole to give out. I am not sure who he will give them to, but we'll figure out someone that needs a Valentine.

I placed four images to one 8 1/2" X 11" piece of card stock and printed them on my home computer. I placed some candy in small cello bag, folded the card in half and stapled the topper to the bag. Once you have your image set up you could personalize them for anyone or even change them up for a bit for someone else.

The Heart is on the Inside Card

It is so awesome to use the Framelits to make an opening anywhere you want on the front of the card. This heart shape is cut through the pink and brown piece of card stock with the punched heart affixed to the inside of the card base.

The embossing is done with the Adorning Accent Embossing Folder. Sizzix has improved the smaller folders so that they do not leave lines anymore. I love this! The curved edge and the scalloped edge folder even have coordinating blades to cut the edges.

Working With One Stamp Set - Three Ideas With The Starter Kit

Easy Events - Starter Kit

It has been a long time since I have stamped multiple samples with one stamp set. I guess it is because I am so fortunate to have so many stamping supplies. Without my rubber stamping business I would never have such a well supplied stamp room.

The incredible stamp room is only a side benefit of the true value of my stamping business. Just a little bit of my stamping story: I started stamping when I had moved from Minneapolis (big town :)) to the tiny town I live in now (in the U.P. of Michigan). I moved because I had gotten married and that is where my husband lived.

So, I moved to a new town where I did not know many people and I had also quit my position as an elementary teacher. I did teach the first year here, but then our son Ben was born and I decided to be a stay at home mom.

I would never give up the opportunity to be a SAHM, but I wanted a bit more so I started my business when Ben was 6 months old.

So let's fast forward almost 14 years, I now have a wonderful business, made incredible friends that I would have never met without Stampin' Up!, and I have an income from a business I LOVE.

What does this story and these cards have to do with each other? Well, these cards are made with the Easy Events stamp set that is recommended with the stampin' Up! starter kit. I am often asked where I get all of my ideas, and the secret is that I don't have to think up all of the designs by myself. Curling Ribbon Is Really Hot Right Now!

Fresh Vintage Bundle

Curled ribbon is popping up everywhere now! The last time I was in a craft store they had a ribbon curler displayed right by the ribbon. Of course, it was begging to come home with me. The narrow ribbon from the Sale-A-Bration Catalog is perfect for curling.

Of course, you do not need a ribbon curler! You can wrap your ribbon around a wood dowel or skewer and heat it with your heat tool to set the curl. No matter how you heat your ribbon, let it cool completely before you move it to hold a tighter curl.

Isn't the Fresh Vintage Bundle of products absolutely amazing? It is by far myfavorite of the Exclusive Sale-A-Bration products. I love the colors in the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series paper and find myself going back to going back to it again and again.

Look At The Intricate Designs Pre-Cut in the Card

Designer Cuts Cards &amp; Envelopes

It is a good thing I didn't have to cut all those flowers and shapes out of the this Designer Cuts card. This card is absolutely beautiful all by itself, but look at it with a few embellishments.

If you are short on time, start with one of these cards and add embellishments to make it your own. Stampin' Up! also has pre-folded note cards and envelopes that you can use to start your creative paper crafting.

The video below shows you the first steps I took with this card and then I added more to the card before I took a picture of it for this post.

Even though this card has a beautiful heart, don't think it is limited to Valentine's Day. I am sure you can think of many occasions you could use this card.

A Handmade Valentine to a Handmade Valentine Card

The Framelits make an awesome little Valentine. I like the little Valentines because they remind me of the old fashioned Valentines. I pulled out the Greeting Card Kids stamp set today to make this smaller Valentine.

The image is stamped on the front of a Vellum card stock piece and colored with markers on the backside. The vellum really makes it like a vintage Valentine.

You can take this smaller Valentine and add it to a card base to make it a typical card sized Valentine. I took a card base made from Regal Rose, embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, and affixed a Real Red ribbon to the center. The focal piece is then mounted to the front with dimensionals.

It is nice to have multiple ways to make your Valentine's. The Greeting Card Kids Images are available as a digital download #123961. You can download the image today and get it in time for Valentine's Day. All you would have to do is print the image in black and color it with your markers to make a hybrid card.

Fun Homemade Kid's Valentines with Pencils or Not!

Ok, I have 4 boys and (one girl) and loving paper crafting like I do, I thought the Make A Monster Set by Stampin' Up! would be a perfect homemade class Valentine set. I came up with the pencil Valentine first.

My boy's did like the Valentine, but they said, "can't we have suckers." I guess suckers are most popular with elementary aged boys. So, I came up with the sucker version.

I used the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set

with the Make A Monster to stamp the hearts and monsters. The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes (love that set).

I had to make a smaller card for the sucker, but that worked too. So all you have to do is cut the two hearts, stamp the white piece, color, layer and put the pencil or sucker through the heart. I guess we better get going because I have quite a few to make.

It Makes Life Easy when Stamps and Coordinate with Dies!

I have quite of few thank you cards to make for those that were so great to me at Leadership. I had such a wonderful time meeting new people. Many of them shared so much with me.

This card was actually came together quite quickly. I makes it so easy when The image from Apothecary Art coordinates with the Labels Framelit. I inked just the outer line from the stamp and stamped it onto the Whisper White card stock. Then I lined it up with the coordinating Label Framelit and cut it out with the Big Shot. I then used the next larger Label Framelit to mat my focal image.

It's nice to have a fairly easy layout when you want to make several cards in a short amount of time. Because you know that time slips away so quickly!! At least it does for me!!

I used Everyday Enchantment DSP (love that paper) and the Simply Scored Diagonal to make the 3"X3" envelope. I am so lucky to have a preview of a brand new product that will be available from Stampin' Up! in February. The Simply Scored Diagonal Plate.

This card is so quick to make and you can see me make it in the video below.

Isn't this little card so cute. This was demonstrated for us at our recent Leadership Conference. Right after that is when they gave away plates to some of the demonstrators.

I was so excited to win. This was my first Prize Patrol at a Stampin' Up! event ever! And I did scream and jump up and down. I really didn't think I would do that.
