Lovely, lovely, lovely! When I think of Jo Malone or use any of their products, all I can think is…lovely, lovely, lovely! I’ve been using Jo Malone’s English Pear & Freesia Cologne lately and I absolutely love the way it smells. It’s a very light, fresh and beautiful scent with a subtle warmth that makes it sexy. The English Pear & Freesia is a very happy scent to me. There’s something so beautiful about Jo Malone products that make me feel special every time I use them. I’ve visited several Jo Malone counters in department stores and I always find it hard to walk away from their products because everything is just so beautiful. I hadn’t been to an actual Jo Malone store until I visited South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA. It was my first trip to that mall and I didn’t know that they had a Jo Malone store in it. Suddenly seeing the Jo Malone store front in South Coast Plaza was a total skin care princess moment for me. I was beyond thrilled! It was like entering a Jo Malone paradise. It’s worth it to walk in, just to take in the smell of the store. Heavenly! And not only are their scents beyond lovely, but their packaging is so elegant and special. Treating yourself to a Jo Malone product truly feels like you’re giving yourself a very special gift and I can promise you that buying a Jo Malone product for someone else is going to be a gift that they will adore.

Autumn Reeser on Jo Malone: “I was never into fragrance. I never had a fragrance until I was getting married, about two and a half years ago, and I wanted a scent to wear. I found Jo Malone. I like that they layer fragrances. I got Lotus Blossom and Water Lily for myself and I also bought bought Jo Malone’s Dark Amber and Ginger Lily Cologne for my husband. So, I like that they matched. When we’re together the scents all compliment each other. So, my husband wears Jo Malone as well. I got these fragrances specifically for the wedding. I wanted a specific scent and totally fell in love with Jo Malone. I never wanted to spend any time looking for a perfume and my wedding prompted me to do that and I’m so glad I did because I like having something special to wear and I like having the scents that I wear every day. I recently visited ESP Wellness Center in Santa Monica and I was very impressed with the treatments and the wonderful energy of the entire facility. My favorite massage therapist, Michael Canvin, invited me to ESP Wellness Center for a hot stone massage. I couldn’t wait to get another massage with Michael and I had never had a hot stone massage with him, so I was really looking forward to that. Just as I expected, Michael’s massages are always the absolute best. I was also invited by Parvati Shallow, co-founder of the Wellness center with co-founder Erika Shay, to experience my first Reiki session with her. From the moment you enter ESP Wellness Center, you feel a very positive and healing energy. Erika and Parvati want you to leave their facility with a smile on your face and feeling energized. They strive to guide all of their clients into a strong, positive and healing place in their lives. Aside from both of these ladies being absolutely lovely, they are brave and tenacious women who care very much about helping to improve the lives of their clients and pass on as much positive energy as they can. And they do! I had a long conversation with both of them after my treatments and I found them both to be very thoughtful and genuinely caring women. When I left the facility that day, I left looking forward to my next visit. They generously invited me to come back for a breath work class and for a private session in their infrared sauna.

The menu of services at ESP Wellness Center includes: massage, Reiki, nutritional counseling, private sessions in their infrared sauna, guided meditation, breath work and some very fun fitness classes. Their menu for fitness classes includes: pilates, yoga, boxing training, suspension training, trampoline classes, and a class that I’m very excited to attend at some point…Inner Child. The Inner Child class is all about releasing your inner child, while getting a fun workout. This class playfully includes hula hoops, jump ropes, trampolines, hop scotch, parachutes and more. It sounds like a blast! I can’t wait to try it. I think this class would be great for getting a group of your friends together for a super fun activity, while getting a great workout and having a laugh. ESP Wellness Center offers private sessions, two or three person shared sessions, and semi-private group fitness classes. They offer more services than I’m mentioning, and I highly recommend that you visit ESP to check out all they have to offer.

On the day that I visited ESP Wellness Center, I went for the hot stone massage with Michael and Reiki with Parvati. I have had hot stone massages before, but Michael Canvin always takes every massage to a different and higher level. Check out this pic of me on Michael’s massage table with hot stones placed on my body and hot stones in between my toes. There were many more hot stones placed on and under my body than what you can see in this picture.

I absolutely loved Michael’s placement of the hot stones. It felt so healing and relaxing. Michael explained why and where he placed the hot stones on my body and explained to me that because the stones are earthy, they are very grounding. At the very beginning of my session with Michael, he placed hot stones under my body, for me to lie down on. This may sound like it could be uncomfortable, to lie on top of hot stones, but it was extremely relaxing. The stones that Michael placed between my toes were also very relaxing. Perfect placement!

Michael Canvin: “I placed the chakra stones on the front of your body on chakra areas. And on your back, I made a spinal layout with the stones. The stones run along the spine, not on the spine but next to the spine. It really relaxes the back muscles so that they are prepared for when you turn around and I work on your back. They are warm and soft and it’s a very relaxing feeling to have those stones. (Along with the stones that Michael placed between my toes, he also placed hot stones in my hands) The benefit with hot stones is that they are a warm-up for your body, in a way.”

Massages are never predictable with Michael. We talked a lot about going deeper in a massage and the benefit of slower movement by the massage therapist. Michael explained to me that there are some people who have trouble letting go during a massage, they are resistant. When you completely surrender to a massage, the benefit is much greater. During my massage, when Michael was working deeper with my muscles, he guided me with my breathing through his movements. It was such a powerful massage. In his healing hands, I completely surrender. And, in doing so, the benefits I get from the massage are much greater. While it was an amazing massage, Michael also gave me what felt like a truly healing experience. I will always go back to him. If I could, I would schedule a massage with him every week. Honestly, I’ve yet to find anyone who is on Michael’s level when it comes to massage. He works on a level that is high above anyone else that has ever worked on my body.

Michael Canvin: “I often see the body as an instrument, and I find new tunes every time I work with someone. No massage is the same. I don’t want it to be predictable. I never get tired of learning about the body and how to work on it. So, it’s a constant new flow.”

I can’t recommend booking a massage with Michael enough. I previously wrote on My Skin Affair that Michael is my favorite massage therapist but, I have to say, I think this hot stone massage that I had with Michael was even more impressive than when I first wrote that he was my favorite. He’s that good! If I could, I would treat everyone that I love to a massage with Michael.

When I listened back to the chat I had with Michael after my massage, I had to laugh at myself. In the recoding of our chat, I sounded like I was in a completely different world than I was in before my session with Michael. I was SO relaxed that my voice had lowered a few octaves and I was talking very slowly. My normal pattern of speech can be a bit fast, sometimes too fast. After my massage with Michael, I sounded like I was half asleep, in a state of deep relaxation. His hot stone massage put me in such a relaxed state that I felt like I had let go of tension in my body that I didn’t even realize was there. Michael truly took away my tension and stress and my body felt like it was floating. I felt so much lighter. I could go on for days about how skilled of a massage therapist Michael is and how healing his massages are. Just do yourself a favor, and treat your body to an hour with Michael Canvin if you can. Your body will thank you.

After my session with Michael, I joined Parvati Shallow for a Reiki session. I had never had Reiki before my experience with Parvati. I was very curious about it and really looking forward to a new experience, as I always look forward to new therapies and treatments for my body. I didn’t know much about Reiki, so I asked Parvati to explain to me what Reiki actually is.

Parvati Shallow: “Reiki is a light touch energetic healing process. You are fully clothed when you have a Reiki session, you’re lying down and the therapist works as a channel for energy. The universal energy of healing comes through the therapists body and out through their hands. When I practice Reiki on a client, I’ll feel the points and go through their body (she does this with the light touch of her hands) and I’ll find knee energies, ankle injuries, stomach problems, headache issues (issues that she wasn’t told about by the client prior to their Reiki session) and I feel that in my body. It’s interesting and I really enjoy it because you have this connection with your client and when I sense those areas that need a little bit more energy, a little more healing…I’ll stay on them for a second and send some extra love.”

For the amount of time that I was actually awake for my Reiki session with Parvati, I found it to be very relaxing. I’m not sure if it was the killer combo of Michael’s massage with Parvati’s Reiki, or the fact that I was new to Reiki and, therefore, very affected by it. But I was so relaxed that I briefly fell asleep while Parvati was working on my body. I actually prefer to stay awake during relaxing treatments so that I can be present for how wonderful my body feels. But, on this particular day, I don’t think I had a chance of staying awake. I had reached a state of relaxation that is almost too difficult to describe. After my Reiki session, Parvati shared with me the areas of my body where she felt different types of energy, even telling me where she thinks I might need to do some healing work on myself. That’s when she invited me to one of her breath work classes, thinking that I would benefit from it and that her breath work class could possibly help me to get in touch with certain areas of my body that need a bit more love and healing. It was a great experience.

I completely believe in and support what Erika Shay and Parvati Shallow are doing at ESP Wellness Center. I will most definitely be going back to take Parvati and Erika up on their offer for me to experience their infrared sauna and experience Parvati’s breath work class. I’m also really looking forward to the Inner Child class that they offer. I had a truly great experience at ESP Wellness Center. It was relaxing, healing, inspiring, welcoming and warm.

Volcanica Candles for Beautiful Bath Time Ambiance

What’s more relaxing than taking a bath in candlelight? Most of my favorite spa’s have lit candles either all throughout the entire spa or very strategically placed throughout the spa. Whether I’m getting a massage at a spa or I’m relaxing in my tub at home, I always like to have a candle lit. I highly recommend turning your bathroom into your own personal spa. I have selected two Volcanica candles that I think are perfect for bath time and perfect spa looking/feeling candles. Both of these candles are unscented. I do like scented candles as well. Very much, actually. But I wanted to pick perfect spa/bath time candles that will work for anyone. So, I found the most beautiful unscented candles that I could find. The first candle from Volcanica that I love for spa/bath time is called Sear, and it burns for 77 hours.

The second candle from Volcanica that I love for bath time and for creating your own personal spa at home is called Avalanche, and this one burns for 140 hours. It’s so beautiful!

Volcanica has a huge and very impressive selection of candles. It was very difficult to choose favorites because I love so many of their candles. I have to tell you about my absolute favorite Volcanica candle for my home. It’s so much more than a candle. It’s a beautiful centerpiece that captures your attention the moment you walk into my living room. It’s a very sexy looking candle. It’s a three wick candle called Byzantine. Although it has 134 hours of burning time, I am SO reluctant to burn it at all because I want to keep it forever. The details on this candle are breathtaking!!!

My Skin Affair’s current featured celebrity, Sarah Hyland, won a Golden Globe with her “Modern Family” family for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical, at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Congratulations Sarah! We’re so thrilled to have you featured on My Skin Affair during such a special time for you and “Modern Family”. Check out my interview with Sarah. She completely wowed on the red carpet for the 2012 Golden Globes. Sarah wore a beautiful Max Azria Atelier gown, a gorgeous 50 karat diamonds and pearls necklace from Mikimoto, Charles David heels and a Daniel Swarovski clutch. Sarah looked absolutely stunning! Her hair was styled beautifully, so lovely and elegant, and her makeup was perfect! My compliments to her team of stylists. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Congratulations Sarah!!!!

Bags, bags and more bags! It’s a festival of fabulous bags! Bags for my every need! That’s how I feel as I look through the Namaste collection. I have discovered the most chic makeup bags and the cutest bags ever for carrying and traveling with all of my skin care and makeup products. I was introduced to Namaste in the goodie bag that was given to me at a party at my friend Leslie Sarna’s house (check out Leslie’s amazing site). As I previously wrote: The actual goodie bag that was filled with all sorts of fabulous treats was a Namaste Reusable Grocery Tote. Namaste also added their own goodie, their Small Pouch, to every gift bag/tote. I love the Namaste Small Pouches. They are all super cute, great colors and patterns, and my Small Pouch happens to be the new home for my favorite lip glosses. My list of lip “favorites” is growing by the day and was in need of it’s own pouch in my purse. So, that’s what I’m using mine for. The Namaste Small Pouch is the perfect size pouch to use as a small makeup bag to keep in your purse.

After I fell in love with the Namaste Small Pouches, I got in touch with Namaste to see if they had any other bags that I could keep my skin care and makeup products in. That’s when I found the Oh Snap! pouches. The Oh Snap! mesh pouches come in three different sizes (sold in a set) and are available in three different colors (light pink, red, and charcoal gray). They’re sturdy, easy to clean, and are perfect for traveling. I like to separate my skin care and makeup products, and other girlie stuff, in different bags when I travel. Love that! Not only do the Oh Snap! pouches come in light pink, but Namaste’s Buddy Case also comes in light pink (among other beautiful colors). I like to carry my jewelry in it. When I packed my suitcase a couple of weeks ago, I used three Oh Snap! pouches and a Buddy Case. In the largest Oh Snap! I carried my skin care products, in the medium Oh Snap! I carried my makeup, and in the small Oh Snap! I carried Q-tips, cotton pads and other cotton “girlie products”. I used the Buddy Case for my bracelets and necklaces. Of course, all of these bags/pouches are also great for daily use in your purse. You can make it super easy on yourself and use an Oh Snap! for your makeup bag, then snap that baby up when you’re done and just throw it in your purse for your touchups later on in the day. Clearly, all of these bags and pouches can be used to carry anything you’d like. My mind just happens to always go directly to my skin care and makeup products.

If you want to be super chic and carry your makeup in style…I also like the Skinny Mini. All of the Namaste bags are animal-friendly and their animal-friendly faux leather is absolutely beautiful. I have to add that I also love the Namaste handbag and tote collection. My personal favorites are the Mini Messenger, the Monroe, and the Hermosa. Love, love, love! Bags for my every need! I love their colors, I love the different styles, I love the attitude of the company and I LOVE carrying their bags. It’s all about Namaste!

On a side note: Namaste has a few different meanings and interpretations. Namaste is the recognition of one’s existence by another person. My favorite interpretation of namaste is “the spirit in me respects the spirit in you”.

Clinique For The Holidays - Three Great Gifts

Clinique has some fantastic holiday gifts this year. There are a few that I really love but being such a big fan of Clinique’s Vitamin C Lip Smoothie, I think my favorite Clinique holiday gift this year is the Smoothie Kisses. Smoothie Kisses is four different mini Lip Smoothies that come in a cute silver mini cosmetics bag. The four shades are Berry Boost, Pink-Me-Up, Mango-Thon and Goodness Grapecious. All great colors! I love the mini versions of the Lip Smoothies and I think it’s always important to have multiple shades of lip colors to choose from. You don’t necessarily need to carry around as many different lip products in your purse as I do! On the days when I have to carry a smaller purse and have to choose only two or three different lip products to carry with me, it’s a tough choice. I always like to have a lip treatment or balm, lipstick and lip gloss on me at all times. With the larger purses that I carry on a daily basis, I like to have those three options in a couple of different shades so that I’m good to go no matter what I’m wearing or if I want less or more color. I keep the more subtle shades and more bold shades in my purse at all times. My lips are beyond prepared! It’s kind of become a little bit of an obsession, but I blame that on all of the amazing companies that send me great products to review. Back to Clinique! Smoothie Kisses is a great gift. I love it! I always have a Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie in my purse. It’s one of my very favorite lip products. So, the mini Smoothie’s are perfect for me. They will definitely save me a little room in my purse!

Happy Holidays! I found a fabulously fun holiday ornament that actually falls into the beauty category. Yay!!! Love it, love it, love it! You can hang the newest Harajuku Lovers fragrance from your tree. Isn’t she cute?? I was so excited when I discovered this ornament. It’s the perfect way for me to represent my love for all things girlie on my Christmas tree. What girl wouldn’t love a perfume ornament? This month Sarah Hyland, the super cute star of ABC’s “Modern Family”, is sharing her skin care and makeup favorites with us. Who hasn’t been watching “Modern Family”?? If you haven’t been watching, you’re definitely missing out. I’ve seen every episode. Love it! For me, it’s a guaranteed laugh every week. Sarah, Haley Dunphy on the show, turned heads from the moment the series began. She’s such a beauty that the first time you see her, you can’t help but think about how this beautiful young girl has movie star “knockout” written all over her future. That face! The perfect pout and those eyes! You notice her eyes first. Those big, gorgeous eyes, could stop any boy in his tracks. Turns out, she’s a simple girl who laughs about the fact that she can’t do her own hair.

I recently had a chat with Sarah about her favorite products and more. Enjoy!

Tell me about your skin care fave’s?

I really like Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes because they moisturize my face and take off the makeup at the same time. And it doesn’t burn or anything. I also use the L’Oreal Clean Deep Facial Cleanser that comes with the sponge.

What are your makeup fave’s?

I really like Cover Girl eyeliner. The one with the smudgy thing on one end and the pencil on the other end. I really like that one. I also really like Cover Girl lip liner. I’m a huge lip liner fan. I’ve also been using some Maybelline products as well. Their blush is really cool. Dream Mousse Blush. It trips me out. It’s like a sponge, but it’s blush. It’s crazy. It’s cool. I really like L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara. It’s amazing. Whatever it does to your lashes when you put it on, it like really extends them and makes them pop. And I love Natura Bisse, The Cure Sheer Eye. You put it under your concealer and it just brightens everything and it’s amazing. It really is magic.

Do you have a favorite lip gloss or foundation of any kind?

I’m not really big on that kind of stuff. I’m very, very simple. I don’t use eye shadow. I don’t like to go too over the top. For my lips, I just do lip liner and then I put Chapstick over it.

Any favorite body products?

Baby Oil.

What’s your “must have” product?

Probably Rosebud Salve.

That’s a good one. Do you have a favorite spa?

No, I don’t go to the spa.

Oh, just wait! You will and you’ll love it! Do you get massages?

I’ve only gotten one massage in my life and that was when we were in Hawaii filming “Modern Family”. I got a massage at the resort. It was amazing.

Do you keep any makeup in your purse?

I just carry all that I told you about in a plastic bag in my purse, because I always do my makeup in the car. I don’t take time to do it at home and stuff.

Do you have a favorite makeup tip or skin care advice?

Always blend from your face to your neck, so you don’t look like a clown.

How’s it going on “Modern Family”?

Are you having a good time with the other actors?

Yeah!

How do you think you’re most similar and least similar to Haley, your character on the show?

Most similar is that we both can’t really cook. Least similar in the fact that she really takes the time to actually do her hair. I can’t do hair.

What do you think would surprise your fans most to know about you?

I think it would probably be that I really can’t do my hair. I’m not really good at makeup and hair. Other people do that.

“Enlightened” At The Spa

I had a spa day last week with Sarah Burns and Timm Sharp, who are both currently starring on the new HBO series “Enlightened”. Timm and I got massages and Sarah got a facial, but before that, we all got pedicures together and I filmed that for you. It might be a bit nutty, or naughty, depending on how you see it…but it’s all here for you to judge for yourself. We had a great time! Timm and Sarah (Dougie and Krista on “Enlightened”) are both starring opposite Laura Dern in Mike White’s fantastic new collaboration with Laura Dern for HBO. There is so much honesty on the screen and in the writing of this show, that I’ve been genuinely moved by every episode. Let me break it down for you quickly, as I am no Roger Ebert. “Enlightened” has an outstanding cast of characters that are all beautifully brought to life by Laura Dern, Diane Ladd, Mike White, Luke Wilson, and my two spa buddies (Sarah Burns and Timm Sharp). The show’s phenomenal writer/creator, Mike White, knocks it out of the park in every episode. It’s so honest and visceral. It’s also fabulously quirky and I’m loving it every week. I could go on a bit more, but there’s a video waiting for you here that I know you’re ready to get to.
We had a blast. Enjoy!

I recently wrote all about my night at the Glamour Reel Moments Premiere and mentioned that earlier that day I had also attended the Glamour and Clarisonic Em(power)ment luncheon for Glamour Reel Moments. It was a beautiful and intimate luncheon with the three actresses that are all making their directorial debuts. Those actress/directors are Eva Longoria, Zoe Saldana, and Olivia Wilde. The topic of conversation was women in film and the experience that each of these first time directors had while directing their short films. I chose two pieces from Eva Longoria’s interview, that I filmed myself, to share with you. I have to say, Eva looked absolutely radiant at the luncheon. I must add that the food was delicious and Clarisonic gave everyone who attended a Clarisonic Plus. Yay! Thanks Clarisonic.

Eva Longoria directed the short film “A Proper Send-Off” that was inspired by Glamour reader Jan Livingston Mokhtari. As I previously wrote, in my coverage of The Glamour Reel Moments Premiere, I found “A Proper Send-Off” to be very inspiring on the subject of breast cancer prevention.
