The beautiful piano arrangements that heavily drapes the music was the first thing that captured my attention towards this low profiled indie artiste. Possibly mistaken as your recent American Idol, Kris Allen, this pretty boy pianist has the singing chops of the sweet American boy but the piano playing skills of Sir Elton John.

Gavin Mikhail is not a rockstar, but he is your humble artist that you should look out for. This self proclaimed not-rockstar has his own blog where he discusses non musical things and shows the down to earth side of him. His intelligence and his eagerness in music could be clearly displayed in his blog and MySpace page where he actively communicates with his fans.

Playing the haunting melodies in his self composed songs such as Days Gone By and God In This Moment, he has distinct lyrics composition that touches hearts and souls.
We predict he will be one to look out for in the future!;)

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen

After seeing the trailer being played over and over everywhere...we were pretty excited to catch this movie seeing that it became such a phenomenon after the first movie. Also the amount of publicity it got as brands after brands using Transformers for its marketing campaigns.
Imagine how we were even more stoked when United International Pictures decides to give MyPurpleJournal tickets to watch its premieres tonight (*big shout out to MPJ reader, Janet! It was really fun catching this premiere with you and your friend tonight!). As you can see, we just came back from the premiere and is really excited to tell you, our readers all about it!

The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force. The Autobots believing that peace was possible finds out that Megatron's dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox and revives him using his own spark. Now Megatron is back seeking revenge and with Starscream and more Decepticon reinforcements on the way, the Autobots with reinforcements of their own, may have more to deal with then meets the eye.

Well that about sums up the plot with deeper plot revelation in between, continueing the Transformer phenomenon that started in the first movie. The second movie is a direct continuation of the first movie with all the same casts from the first with additional new characters and new Transformers.
This one definitely has more humour, even though they may appear to be too intentional and PG13 but they were funny nonetheless. While you can expect funny moments from Shia LeBouf and his co-stars, even the Autobots have their funny moments with Bumblebee bursting into diesel tears at one point.

We HAVE to mention our favourite transformers in the movie, a pink and green little autobots, who are technically twins, seeing that they were identical and also their compatibility. They were fantastically awesome and absolutely the cutest thing we see!! That you have to look out for.

Technically the movie was pretty awesome, with more destructions and explosions compared to the first one. However, the transformations of the Robots were a little too confusing seeing as they were too upclose or the camera directions were confusing. This somehow made the fighting scenes quite a blur at some point. Perhaps Michael Bay could have done a better job, but it was still a good job nonetheless.

I definitely enjoyed myself very much as did the rest of the movie goers at the cinema seeing that an applause broke out as the credit rolled. We at MyPurpleJournal definitely recommend this movie eventhough you may have to be quick in booking your tickets seeing as the tickets are already being pre sold! We smell that this might be a HUGE boxoffice movie!

They call themselves the Stationery Station although! they might not have your basic stationeries in their catalogue, I must say they do have really pretty ribbons for their customers! There are so many choices for you to choose from, it's really quite awesome for presents lovers like us! ;P

Are the "Shoulders" coming back?

Ever since we noticed Gweneth Paltrow donning a blazer over her atrociously expensive dinner gown, there are more and more people sporting the blazer over dress style. And we? We absolutely love this trend. I personally love the whole funky androgenous look on a girl because of the spunk and edginess it exudes but this formal slash edgy combination absolutely blew us away.
However, lately, we do notice that the trend is slowly evolving...well, to be heavier at the shoulders. Remember those horrible horrible shoulder pads you used to loathe?

Okay fine, that was harsh, we actually don't really have strong feelings against shoulder pads but we think, that might be coming back.

Look at trendsetters Ashley(Or Mary Kate) Olsen..(We can't really differentiate the two) sport that vintage shoulder heavy dress, and the whole blazer over dress look! It's all over tinsel town!

We can't say if we love the trend...but...we're definitely digging the blazer over dress thing!

Our advice?
Invest in a good ol long sleeved fitting blazer. It will come in handy for most of your evenings.

ps. If you have any great fitting blazers stocked in your shops, do holla at us!

Hand Sanitizers

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer has been around for years, but the research was never quite clear whether it was as effective against germs as washing your hands. The verdict is in, and it looks like hand sanitizer is at least as effective.

According to research performed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hand sanitizer is considered as effective at killing germs as washing your hands with soap and water, unless hands are visibly soiled.

The main point to remember, however, is that the alcohol content of the handrub must be at least 60 percent to be effective.

To keep yourself and your family healthy, it's important to clean your hands, especially after you've used the restroom or prepared food. Vigorously washing your hands with warm water and soap for 20 seconds is still a tried and true method. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be a convenient alternative, however, as you can use them on-the-go--after you have been on public transportation, touched an animal or grocery cart, etc. The CDC recommends both hand sanitizing wipes and alcohol based gels.

Be sure to use enough to cover all surfaces of your hands, including between your fingers, and rub your hands until they are dry.

So, we definitely recommend you to run to your nearby drugstore to purchase a little small bottle, stash it in your handbag!!! With the flu running rampage, you would want to take this small step of precaution! Plus, it's basic hygiene!

State of Play (2009)

A brilliant movie casted with big names such as Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Helen Mirren definitely promised a movie thrill such as this one.

Started off very CSI-esque with two relatively unrelated murders with great shocking effects, the director of State of Play does know his game. Cal Mcaffrey, played by Russell begins as a passionate journalist hunts his story which began from a seemingly random murder that leads to the next.

The plot of this movie is definitely very clever, despite the sometimes confusing turns that might leave you wondering. Russell played his part really well despite the occassional slip of accent while his counterpart, Affleck did well to compliment him. He needed that role to shake off his tabloid status and it did it. He was rather amazing playing the politician.

The females played rather subdued roles, with Mcadams as the supporting journalists...who writes the news blog while Mirren played the boss lady who runs the paper. At the least, they've inspired those of us who always wanted to be journalists and write for a living.

All in all, the movie was great and kept the audience gripping their seats in suspense as the director brought great suspense and effects. Don't be fooled by the lack of the blockbuster hoohahs, because we'd definitely recommend it to those who wants a good movie after a while of mindless funny movies.

How did you come about online shopping and mostly, what inspired you to own one? We’ve always been very intrigued with the whole online shopping industry ... we felt that it was a very refreshing alternative to shopping, and that it’s becoming increasingly popular! And we’ve always loved fashion. (even more now, if I may say so!)

How did the name come about? Well, it’s a pretty random story ... but one day, someone called one of us ‘fat’, to which our jaws instantly dropped ... and then, he quickly grinned and piped up “not fat ... p-h-a-t! It means pretty, hot and tempting, did you know that?” It was a good laugh, and we decided to use it as our blogshop name. J Of course, we changed ‘tempting’ to ‘trendy’ to make it more apt!

We absolutely LOVE your stuff. What do you have in mind when bringing in stuff for your shoppers? We always try to get stuff that we ourselves would wear ... we firmly believe that style is subjective, and that everyone has their own individual style, so we try to get a bit of everything for everyone. And of course, we do try to keep updated with the current runway trends and etc.

Describe your fashion style. Any fashion obsessions? I (Liz) have a strange fascination with the bondage / fetish trend that’s all the rage these days ... it may not necessarily be something that’s really practical for everyday wear, and some people find it downright outrageous but I think that it’s very intriguing and I love checking out all the designs from different designers! I thought that Katy Perry’s fetish-inspired photoshoot from Complex magazine was very interesting ... My partner (May), however, loves Kate Moss and Topshop. She really keeps herself updated with whatever Kate’s wearing!

Which fashion trend that you think is absolutely ridiculous and why?

There’s this new trend going around, called the Swine Flu Chic, and I find it kinda odd! I mean, the idea of designer face masks inspired by the whole swine flu fiasco is just quite inappropriate and not really necessary, in my opinion.

Have you dealt with fussy customers and what do you think about them?

Yes but as a shopper myself, I do understand why it’s sometimes important to be very particular about sizing, cutting, and whether it fits well or not.

I find endless queries fine ... but what’s annoying are those who ask endless questions via SMS or email, confirm their order, and then back out last-minute after I’ve reserved it for some time!

Do you shop online yourself?

Yes :)

What should we expect in your next fabulous update?

Well, we’re going to bring in another set of fab shoes that we really adore! And of course, there’ll be clothes ... we’re really trying our best to get goods that are eccentric, trendy and also retains a tinge of practicality.

Any future plan for your webstore?

We’re planning a major revamp soon, and we are reconsidering to get a good hosting package! And we’ll be going overseas to source for more goodies in August, so we think that our customers (both new and returning) will have a really massive update then to look forward to!

Ben's Brother is London-born Jamie Hartman.

If you were wondering how Ben's Brother's music are...think James Morrison, and a little bit of Jamie Cullum also a sprinkle of Billy Joel. Just a little spunkier.

This band, led by Jamie Hartman, produces really good chilled rockish easy listening songs that will probably make your do-nothing-day feels complete. As much as the tunes hits home, the lyrics does brings you the eclectic feeling that Jamie had listened to you before. He wrote the songs for you. Indeed, he wrote the songs for you, and you only. The personality in his voice is unique and a tad bit nasal but it is memorable.

With songs like Home, Find Me an Angel and Let Me Out, Ben's Brother is definitely the band to look out for.
