Gold jewelry is an essential statement piece in any fine jewelry wardrobe. It can add exactly the right accent to any outfit and comes in many styles, textures and colors to ensure that you can find exactly what works for your personal style.

One of the most popular ways of wearing gold jewelry is the curb link necklace or bracelet. The huge gold chains with links the size of fencing may work for tough guys, but these are not fashion pieces. Society has always placed a huge importance on appearance. Before, the factors that made a man look good were only his clothes and shoes. Jewelry was not part of the picture. But because of the influence of media, society has shed the perception that only women could wear jewelry. More and more men are purchasing jewelry to complement their outfits, not just for special occasions but also for work and less formal events. Because of the increased demand for jewelry, companies try to differentiate their products from the others in an attempt to be at the top of the competition. The result is a movement of the design of men’s jewelry from the traditional and classic to the stylish and unique, with athletes and celebrities dictating the trend.

In terms of materials, a fusion of the old and the new is considered the “in” thing. Timeless materials, such as precious metals and gemstones, are used in combination with ordinary items like leather and glass beads. For instance, bracelets, which were once only made of gold and silver, now come in trendier and more jazzed up designs. Some necklaces come in a combination of leather and silver, and are considered chic and classy.

Three new metals are increasingly being more favored as the material of choice for men’s accessories. These are stainless steel, titanium, and tungsten carbide. Stainless steel has always been popular with watches, but now it is also used for bracelets and other types of jewelry. This is because of its durability, resistance to scratches, and affordability. It is a metal that you can wear when doing outdoor and daily activities, traveling, and even attending formal events. Tungsten carbide, like stainless steel, is durable and scratch-resistant. Titanium also is extremely strong. It can be produced in different colors because of the process of anodizing. However, in choosing colors, the neutral ones, like silver, grey, and black, are the safest choices.

Platinum is another precious metal that exploded in the jewelry scene a couple of years back. At first, it was just thought of as a passing fad, but the trend stuck even though it is three times as expensive as white gold.

Just recently, punk-inspired designs such as skulls and crossbones have invaded the fashion realm. Such designs can be found in shirts, scarves, jackets, and even jewelry. However, these designs have always been used in motorcycle jewelry, but it is only now that they have been embraced into pop culture. Such designs have always been included in men’s jewelry, having the image of rebellion and power, two ideas that have always appealed to men.

Having been popularized by music icons like rappers, R&B singers, and other hip-hop artists, diamonds are increasingly being worn by men. Big silver, white gold, or platinum pendants are embellished with these precious stones. Diamond stud earrings are also considered stylish.

Finally, jewelry trends usually come and go, but there are those that always remain. Timeless pieces, such as steel watches, are what every man should have. They may be simple, but they are always perceived as elegant and classy.

In addition, alexandrite was deemed appropriate to celebrate a 55th wedding anniversary – as well as the 35th and 45th, which dates it would share with the emerald. Wednesday became alexandrite’s day in general, but especially so in the case of the extremely rare cats eye alexandrite.

Through the years it has been a common practice by jewelers associations whereby gemstones that are commonly available are added to “official” lists. It should be noted, however, that the term ‘common’ is rarely used in even the same vicinity as alexandrite.

Where do you draw the line between Moissanite Diamonds and the real thing?

What is the difference if there is one and how do you differentiate between the two?

Real diamonds are created deep in the earth taking millions of years to form under high pressure and temperature.
They large scale or commercial diamond mining consumes a lot of human resource and finance.

The rough diamonds obtained then have to be sorted, cut and polished all very specialized jobs.

Is the end result justified you may ask?

It takes approximately 23 tons of blue ground to yield 5 carats of rough diamond material. That's a lot of work in anyone's books.

If that is not enough, only 20% of any diamonds recovered are gem quality, while the remainder is suitable only for industrial purposes. Industrial quality diamonds are used in PC chip manufacturing drill bits & saw blades among other applications.

So why the history lesson? Just to show that gem quality Diamonds are expensive for a reason and not just because your jeweler says so.

Okay so why even bother with Moissanite Diamonds?

Well simply put, you save quite a bit of money buying Moissanite Diamonds as opposed to gem diamonds. Moissanite is lab prepared and a 1 carat stone can be made in 3 days as opposed to millions of years. Moissanite has a hardness of 8.5 - 9.25 compared to 10 with real diamonds.

It produces as much fire as a real diamond when cut and you require a special tester to differentiate between Moissanite and real diamond.

Even in the early days of Hollywood the public looked to the stars to determine what is fashionable and what was not. After all these celebrities were expected to always be glamorous and in vogue. Becky Hosmer’s affair with jewelry starts back in her college days, when she had the opportunity to travel the world. She was profoundly inspired by the abundance of color and handmade art throughout Asia. After many trips to Nepal, the Himalayas, Tibet, and Thailand Becky gained interest in the jewelry-making craft.

By the time she made her way to Bali, she was already involved in jewelry and foreign trade. Bali opened up the door for Becky to learn intricate native metal work techniques that possessed an ancient look, but were still very modern. This was something she had never seen before. She soon began designing her own pieces, working with a Balinese artisan. Originally made for her own personal jewelry collection, it wasn’t long before she landed in high end stores around the United States. This is how Anna Beck Designs came to life in 2003.

Becky has had the opportunity to be inspired by a place that she truly loves. She is now based in Bali to oversee production and work on new designs. As Anna Beck Designs continues to grow, so does Becky’s understanding of the Balinese people and culture. She is often inspired by the colorful and spiritual people of Bali and its stunning surrounding; that inspiration can be seen in all of her collections.

Los Angeles based Anna Beck Designs is a contemporary jewelry collection that uses one of the oldest jewelry making techniques in the exotic Far East. Timeless necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings and cuffs are handcrafted on the island of Bali. I often compare this exciting and colorful category to the wide ties, narrow ties, mini-skirts, long skirts, concept of jewelry design. You could easily sum it up with "what goes around, comes around". This sometimes happens at what most would consider lightning speed. Fashion Jewelry is the fastest changing segment of the entire Jewelry industry. It has to be. And for good reason.

Remember when Fashion Jewelry was referred to as Costume Jewelry? Although the name is still used you have to admit the phrase Fashion Jewelry has a lot more appeal. Marketing experts and department store buying departments came up with an even more precisely defined term.Trend Jewelry. Trends and new trend-setting is really the whole point to this segment of the jewelry industry. The "why" is affordability. With retail prices in the single and low double digits you must have a super-fast turnover in inventory in order to have a profitable market. Rapid style change is necessary for creating a need, or at the very least, a desire to buy.

A few of the many ways these trends or fads get started are major manufacturers with talented designers who continue to create new and exciting styles. Also, costume designers and stylists behind the scenes of the television and film industry can sometimes be the real trend-setters in our pop culture environment.
